Neuro Claims Part 2 The Infused Golf Shaft Band Tori Rydalch
Every athlete wants to improve their ability to compete within their discipline. This desire to
rise above their competition leads them to try any and every product available even if the product is
not back by credible scientific research. One example of this is the company NeuroReset Inc. This
Canadian-based company has produced products such as the Infused Golf Shaft Bands that are
misleading to costumers, as they fail to recognize scientific evidence regarding how signals are
communicated between muscles and the brain, misuses the concept of quantum entanglement, and
relies solely on the placebo effect.
The Infused Golf Shaft bands which retail for
$150 consist of a small ring of plastic that is placed
below the grip of the golf club. This small ring claims to
improve your swing by emitting an energy field that
“intersects with the central nervous system (CNS) when the
club is swung around the body” (NeuroReset) As
mentioned above these claims mislead customers and are
scientifically incorrect in the following ways.
First, NeuroReset Inc claims that the product
emits an energy field that is capable of influencing the
CNS causing muscles to move in a more effectively.
This is incorrect as the CNS controls muscle movement
through connections between neurons and an energy
field outside the body would be unable to change those
connections. Nerve signals travel long distances within the
body through a circuit that can rapidly convey messages
between CNS and the peripheral nervous system (PNS).
This happens through transmissions of action potentials
between various synapses or junctions between nerves. A
muscle is controlled through a special chemical synapse
called the neuromuscular junction. Muscles contract by receiving an action potential through this
joint. (“2-Minute Neuroscience…”) An outside source or energy field would be unable to change the
connection and information that is being shared through the neuromuscular junction. Thus, the
product would be unable to improve the golf swing of an individual through influencing the CNS.
Second, in the FAQ section of the NeuroReset Inc website, they claim their product is
scientifically based on a phenomenon called quantum entanglement. This phenomenon occurs when
there is a connection between two particles despite a distance between them. This phenomenon was
originally observed by Albert Einstein and quantum physicists are still working to be able to explain
why this occurs and what it can be used for. (Szeto) Quantum entanglement is not well understood by
quantum physicists and consequently is not well understood by NeuroReset. Their product could be
using technology related to quantum entanglement, but it cannot be proven due to insufficient
knowledge and understanding. Customers should be wary of the scientific connections between the
Infused Shaft Band and quantum entanglement.
Third NeuroReset’s Infused Shaft Band relies on the placebo effect and not on a neurological
connection between the band and an individual’s CNS. The placebo effect can be powerful in
effecting both the neurological and physical state of an individual. In a study conducted by Rossettini
and other professionals, it was discovered that the placebo effect can affect the motor domain,
including improving the performance of athletes. It is suggested that greater concentration from the
individual rather than the product itself causes these changes in performance. (Rossettini) The
Infused Shaft band could be improving an individual’s performance by increasing concentration
rather than effecting an individual’s CNS. The University of Toronto's Institute of Biomaterials and
Biomedical Engineering conducted a study in which they did not inform the participants if they were
using NeuroReset’s product or not and found that there was no increase in performance with the use
of their products. (Szeto) Therefore, the athletes using the band are seeing success due to a placebo
effect and not because of the properties of the shaft band.
Products such as the Infused Golf Shaft Bands that are misleading to costumers, as they are
neuro-bunks and have no scientific validity. Their legitimacy is questionable as they are not backed
by scientific evidence and rather make false claims regarding how signals are communicated between
muscles and the brain, quantum entanglement, and therefore have to rely solely on the placebo effect
rather than neurological processes.
