A. Activity

Before we
proceed to our
discussion let's
have first an
acvitity called
“Take me Home”.

Using these
flashcards I am
holding, I want
you to place it on
their respective
columns you see
in front. Our
column is
consisting of
persons, places,
things, animals

I will call students

or you can
volunteer in
answering, but
the twist is you
will only see the
word when you
came here in
front. I will not
give you
examples. I want
all of you to
identify it on your
own.

Do you
understand class?

Are you ready?

Did you enjoy our

activity?

I see class, it
seems that most
of you are
actively
participating.

B. Analysis

Okay class, what did you observe about

the words you placed in each column?"
The words are closely related to
each other

Exactly! Another one. Yes Jasmin?

The words are type of nouns?

Yes, that's right. There are different

types of nouns and in this lesson; we'll
go over two of them: common and
proper.

C. Abstraction

Before we formally proceed to our

discussion let me present to you our
objectives.
(The students read the objectives)
Please read the objectives.

Thank you class!

Now class let us know what a common

noun is. Everyone please read. A common noun is the general,
non-specific term for a person,
place, thing, or idea.
Usually, common nouns are not
capitalized unless they begin a
sentence. A proper noun is a specific, unique
person, place, thing, or idea.
What about proper noun? Everyone
Unlike common nouns, proper
please read.
nouns are almost always
capitalized.

Jemuel, do you think it's true? Yes ma'am. Whether they begin a
sentence or not Proper nouns are
always capitalized.

That's correct class. Now class, from

what your classmate said earlier. Those
words in our activity are closely related.
What do you think is the relationship of
common nouns and proper nouns?
Anyone? (Silence)

I think you are still confused with the

proper nouns and common nouns. Listen
class, the relationship maybe you can
think about proper nouns as specific
examples of common nouns.

Yes Rachel?
Every common noun has an
equivalent of proper noun.
Very Good Rachel!

Let's explore the difference between

common and proper nouns through
examples. Imagine you're writing about
a trip. You might say, 'I visited a city.'
'city' is a common noun. But if you name
the specific city, you'd write, 'I visited
Manila.' 'Manila' is a proper noun, and
it's capitalized.

I have here poetic lines and can

someone identify what word is the
common noun and proper noun in the
line then justify your answer. Here is
example number 1.
(Students are raising their hands)
1.A bird soared, the Eagle took to flight.
Anyone who would like to answer?
Ma'am bird is the common noun
while eagle is the proper noun
Yes Geneva? because eagle is the the specific
bird that is mentioned in the line.

Ma'am
Excellent! Thank you Geneva. How
about this one.

2. A mountain loomed, majestic Apo mountain and Apo because Apo is

stood. an specific mountain.
Yes Macadaya?

Good job class! It seems like you already

master the common nouns and proper
nouns.

Remember class. The difference

between a common and proper noun is
what type of thing they are referring to.

Common nouns are the generic things

while proper nouns refer to the specific
things.

To deepen your knowledge let's have

ok ma'am
another activity called "The Grammar
Detective" but before that I will group
you into three.
(Students are reading the

group 2 while the rest will be the group

correct grammatical errors in a
given paragraph. You have 5
minutes to finish your work and

afterwards each group will have a
representative to present and
justify their answers.

Yes it is ma'am

(Each group starts clapping theirs

Is the direction clear? hands)

Ok then, start answering then clap your

hands if you are through.
I guess everyone is done. Let's have the (Group 1 is presenting the
representative of group 1 to present example paragraph with error)
their answers.
Example paragraph with error: My
favorite holiday is christmas, it is
celebrated every december 25.
Me and my family always go to
church, than we have a big dinner.
We eat lechon, pancit, and rice.
Its a very fun day, and i love
spending time with my family. My
favorite gift last year was a new
bike, i ride it every day.

version.

too, but Max is the best. He loves

We noticed that the word golden

retriever is not in capital letter
where in fact it should be because
it is a proper noun same as the
word max. The word he should be

already master the difference between Ma'am
common noun and proper noun.

Ma'am common noun is the

general noun while proper noun is
the specific noun.

to correct sentence as much as you can
within 2 minutes. After 2 minutes I want
each group to give 1 sentence with
common noun and proper noun. Is the
