In the sixth year of the Hijriah, Rasulullah SAW intended to expand his preaching.
Then he
wrote letters to eight Arab and non-Arab kings. The Apostle wanted to call for Islam in the
territories ruled by these kings.
Rasul: "O my friends, please send these letters to the 8 kings and give them according to the
names on the paper"
Among the kings, there is one king named Tsumamah bin Utsal al-Hanafi. He was one of
the Arab leaders in the Jahiliyah Era. He was a respected person from the Bani Hanifah and
was also a Yamamah king whose orders were always obeyed.
Unfortunately, this king did not respond well to the letter sent by the Prophet. He responded
to the letter arrogantly and insultingly.
Tsumamah: "Huh, what kind of letter is this? God has no form? Dark times? Is this person
joking? Seriously, how could I allow my people to join a religion that insults my religion..."
In fact, Tsumamah always covered his ears tightly so as not to hear preaching about
goodness and truth.
Until finally Satan took control of Tsumamah. Satan persuaded him to kill the Prophet
Muhammad. Fortunately, Tsumamah was able to stop her plans.
However, Tsumamah was still determined to kill the companions of the Prophet. He
captured several of the Prophet's companions and killed them.
One day, Tsumamah intended to perform the Umrah pilgrimage. He left the land of
Yamamah for Mecca.
He imagined performing tawaf and slaughtering sacrifices for his idols.
However, when he was on his way to Mecca, to be precise in Medina, he was hit by a
disaster. He met the Prophet's troops patrolling the Medina border.
Guard1: O my brother, Who are you? Why are you here? and who sent you?
Guard2: Before you speak, we will still take you to Medina due to our suspicions about
your presence here. Come with us and don't leave!
These troops then captured Tsamamah. They then took Tsumamah to Medina.
When Muhammad came to the mosque to worship, he saw Tsumamah tied to a pole.
Rasul: "Do you know who he is?"
Guard3: "No, O Messenger of Allah."
Rasul: "This is Tsumamah bin Utsal al-Hanafi. Capture him well.”
After completing his worship, the Apostle said again before walking home,
Rasul: "Gather the delicious food you have and serve it to Tsumamah bin Utsal."
The Prophet even ordered to milk his camels in the morning and evening. Then he ordered
his friends to serve the milk to Tsumamah. The Apostle did this before he met and talked to
Tsumamah.
When the Prophet wanted to meet him, he also wanted to preach Islam to him slowly.
Rasul: "What do you have, O Tsumamah?"
Tsumamah: “I have goodness, O Muhammad. If you kill then you kill the owner of the
blood. But if you forgive, then you forgive the person who is grateful. If you want wealth,
just say so, and we will give you what you want."/
"I have kindness. If you want wealth, just say so, and we will give you what you want."
The Apostle left and left him like that for two days. delicious food and drinks are always
served to Tsumamah.
Then the Prophet returned to see him. The Apostle asked the same question, "What do you
have, O Tsumamah?"
Tsumamah: “I only have what I said before. If you forgive, then you forgive the person who
is grateful. If you kill, then you kill the owner of the blood. If you want wealth, then ask,
we will give you whatever you want."
The Prophet again left him. The next day, the Prophet came again. The Apostle asked him
again, "What do you have, O Tsumamah?" Tsumamah: "I have what I have told you."
“If you forgive, then you forgive the person who is grateful. If you kill, then you kill the
owner of the blood. If you want wealth, then ask, we will give you whatever you want."
Hearing Tsumamah's answer, the Apostle looked at his friends. The Prophet said, "Let go of
Tsumamah." So they untied Tsumamah and let her go.
Tsumamah left the mosque and walked away. He arrived at a date palm garden with a
spring. Then he purified himself. Then he decided to turn back towards the mosque where
he was being held captive.
He arrived at the mosque. He stood in front of a group of Muslim people. He said, "I testify
that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah SWT and I testify that Muhammad is
the servant and messenger of Allah."
Then Tsumamah met the Messenger of Allah, he said, "O Muhammad, by Allah, on this
earth there is no face that I hate more than yours, but now your face is the face that I love
the most."
Then he continued, "In the past I killed several of your friends, what do I have to bear
because of it?"
The Apostle replied, "There is no sin on you, O Tsumamah, because Islam erases what was
before."
Tsumamah's face lit up when she heard this answer. He said, "By Allah, I lay down my
sword, my soul and my people to defend you and defend your religion."
Then Tsumamah said, "O Messenger of Allah, I was about to be taken prisoner when I
wanted to perform the Umrah, what do you think I should do?"
Rasul: "Continue your Umrah, but above the law of Allah and His Messenger." Then the
Prophet taught him the Umrah rituals.
Tsumamah continued her steps to carry out her intention. He arrived at the valley of Mecca.
He stood up and loudly said,
Tsumamah: "Labbaika Allahumma labbaik, labbaika la syarika laka labbaik, innal hamda
wanni'mata laka wal mulk la syarika laka."
He was the first Muslim on earth to enter Mecca with talbiyah, before the Conquest of
Mecca. He then slaughtered to get closer to Allah SWT, not for idols.
