Describing circuit diagrams
A circuit diagram (also known as an electrical diagram) is a
simplified graphical representation of an electrical circuit. It uses
simple images of components and shows the connections between
the devices, including power and signal connections. The
arrangement of the components on the diagram does not
correspond to their physical locations in the finished device.
Circuit diagrams are used for the circuit design (e.g. PCB layout)
and maintenance of electrical and electronic equipment.
1. Simple Circuits
1.1. Getting started
Look at this lab setup. It consists of three lamps and a battery of three cells. Which of the following
circuit diagrams does it correspond to?
1.2. Know the Components
Refer to the circuit to the right. What are the components called?
a) ............................................. d) .............................................
b) ............................................. e) .............................................
c) ............................................. f) .............................................
1.3. In Series or in Parallel?
Look at the drawings below and complete the sentences.
