Objective:
The primary goal of this project is to design and
implement a system that continuously monitors air
quality parameters such as temperature, humidity,
particulate matter (PM2.5), and harmful gases (e.g.,
CO2, CO, NH3) and provides an Air Quality Index (AQI)
based on these measurements. The system also alerts
users when air quality deteriorates beyond predefined
thresholds.
Problem Definition
Air pollution adversely impacts public health and the
environment. This system aims to address these
challenges by providing an affordable, portable, and
real-time air quality monitoring solution accessible to
all.
System Components
• Hardware:
o DHT11 Sensor: Measures temperature and
humidity.
o PM2.5 Sensor: Monitors particulate matter
concentration.
o MQ135 Sensor: Detects harmful gases like
CO2, NH3, and others.
o ESP8266 Module: Facilitates Wi-Fi connectivity
for real-time data transmission.
o JHD 162A LCD Screen: Displays AQI and
environmental parameters locally.
o Buzzer & LEDs: Alerts users when AQI
thresholds are crossed.
• Software:
o Embedded Code: Controls sensors and
processes data.
o Web Interface: Displays AQI metrics with real-
time updates.

Assembled Model
System Working
1. Sensors capture real-time air quality data
(temperature, humidity, PM2.5, and gas
concentrations).
2. Data is processed by the microcontroller to
calculate AQI.
3. Processed data is displayed on the LCD and sent to
a web/mobile interface via Wi-Fi.
4. Alerts (buzzer and LEDs) are triggered when air
quality deteriorates beyond safe limits.
