Pattern unicorn
Fabric, notions and tools
1/2 yard medium weight fabric. The unicorn on the left is made with polar
fleece and the one on the right is made with cotton corduroy.
Small piece of fabric for the horn: 9cm x 8cm (3.5”x3”) for the small
unicorn or 13cm x 10cm (5”x4”) for the large unicorn
Yarn for mane and tail
matching thread for all fabric + thread to match yarn
Polyfill
Embroidery thread for eyes, mouth and nose. Piece of cardboard
a piece of cardboard: 15cm x 15cm (6”x6”) for the small unicorn or 20cm x
20cm (8” x 8”) for the large unicorn
Scotch tape
Sewing machine
fabric pen or other marker to trace pattern piece on fabric
Scissors
Pins
Hand sewing needle
Embroidery needle
Instructions for body
Print pattern pieces pages at 100%.
Cut all the pieces. All (1/4inch)
seam allowances are included. Tape
both “Body” pieces together if you
are making the large version.
Fold fabric face to face. Trace
(contours and marks) and cut once
”Body” and “Front head”. Trace and
cut twice “Ears” and ‘Arm”. Open
fabric., trace and cut “Back head”.
Fold fabric for the horn, trace and
cut “Horn”.
Sew “Body”, “Front head” , “Arms” ,
“Ears” and “Horn”.
Trim ears pointy ends so when the ears
are turned, hey are pointy. Turn the ears.
To help with the pointy tips, you can use
a needle.
Turn arms. Fill arms to about 3/4 inch of top.
Align ears “A” point to back head “A” mark.
Sew with a 1/8in seam allowance.
Put arms inside body and sew. Leave a 1.5-2 inch opening.
Make a few notches between the legs. Turn.
Fill the legs to about 3/4inch of top. Sew the folds
Open “Head front” seam. Align and pin top of the seam (marked ”B” on pattern piece)
with “B” on “Back head” and align and pin bottom seam (“C” on pattern piece) to “C” on
“Back head”. Continue to pin all around the head. Sew, leaving an opening (see marks
on pattern piece)
Turn and fill. Place head on body. Hand sew.
Embroider the face.
Turn and stuff the horn. Close the end by hand sewing all around
the edge (at about 1/8”) and then pulling on the tread to close.
Make a knot and cut the thread.

To do the spiral gobe on the horn, tread a needle, put a knot on the end os the thread is
double. Insert the needle in the horn true the bottom end and pull it out at the back base
(A). Wrap the thread around the horn while pulling it
a bit so it forms a groove on the horn. Attach it with a
few knots at about 1/4 inch of its tip (B). Insert needle
at the knot and pull it all out at the tip trip the thread
as close as possible to the horn.en le serrant un peu

Hand sew on he unicorn head.
To make the mane, wrap yarn around the cardboard piece (15cm x 15cm (6”x6”) for the
small unicorn or 20cm x 20cm (8” x 8”) for the large unicorn). Tape at bout 1inch to end
on both sides of the cardboard. Cut yarn at that end (1). Remove cardboard.
Open and put a piece of tape in the middle so one of its sides is aligned with the middle
of the mane (see arrow).
Sew on the middle using the side of the tape as
a guide. Sew 3 times on the same line so the
seam is strong. Remove all the tape.
Fold the mane on the seam. Put on the harde starting at the base of the horn. Hand sew
on the head. Cut at the neck. cercle et le coudre au dos du corps.
Take the reste of the mane, fold it so it forms a tale. Hand sew
on the body.
Voilà! Your unicorn is done!
