1. A clock is used to tell time.


It has an hour hand and a minute hand.
Some clocks are second hand.

2. There are 12 numbers from 1 to 12 on the


face of the clock.
Between every two numbers, the hour hand measures an hour, and the minute
hand measures 5 minutes.

3. The hour hand goes twice across the face of the clock in one day.
There are 24 hours in a day.

4. The minute hand goes one full circle across the face of the clock in one hour.
There are 60 minutes in an hour.

5. The second's hand goes one full circle across the face of the clock in one
minute.

Note: 1 hour = 60 minutes, 1 minute = 60 seconds

Elapsed Time
Elapsed time is the amount of time that passes from the beginning of an event
to its end.

Find the Elapsed Time for the following:


1. Patrick went to the pool at 10:40 A.M. until 2:45
P.M.
How many hours and minutes was Patrick at the
pool?
Draw a timeline with the beginning time and so on…..till end time and
calculate.
Step 1: Draw a timeline with the beginning time labelled.

Step 2: Count by hours until you have no hours left to count.

Step 3: Count by 5-minute increments using loops on your timeline until you
have no minutes left to count.

Step 4: Add the hours and minutes together to get the elapsed time of hours
and 5 minutes.

2. Find the elapsed time from 5:25 P.M. to 10:40 P.M.


3. Find the elapsed time from 11:25 P.M. to 4:35 A.M.

1.Rahul goes to school at 7:00 a.m and comes back after 4
hours. At what time does he come back?

2. Hockey match was over by 6 p.m. The match was played for 2 hours. At
what time did the match start?

3. Saleem went to the cinema hall at 3:15 p.m. and came out of it at 6:30 p.m.
How much time did he spend in the hall?
