INDUCTION MOTOR
D.BHAGIRATH | 100524736066 |MECH 1ST YEAR
AIM:
To control the speed of a 3-phase induction motor on no- load by
1. Connecting the machines in cascade.
2. Varying the resistance included in the rotor circuit of a slip ring induction
motor.
3. Varying the number of poles on the stator of a 3-phase squirrel cage induction motor

PROCEDURE:
1. Cascade connections:
Make the connections as shown in the circuit diagram with suitable range of meter
for cumulative cascade connections. Note down the input current, voltage and
speed of the cascade set.
2. Rotor resistance control:
Make the connections as per the circuit diagram given. Start the machine using 3-
phase, variac and keeping the rotor resistance included in its maximum position.
PAGE 1
Note the voltage applied, current and speed in this case repeat the procedure by
gradually decreasing the resistance included in the rotor circuit.
3. Pole changing method:
Make the connections as per the given circuit diagram for different poles on the
stator. In each case start the machines using a 3-phase varaic. Adjust the voltage
applied to its rated value and note down the input current and speed of the motor.
Tabulate the result obtained for the above three methods of speed control.

OBSERVATIONS:
RESULT:
• The speed of 3-phase induction motor is controlled at different speeds by pole
changing method and giving different current values at different poles
