A printer is an output device on a computer system used to print hard copy output.
Printers fall into two categories: impact and non-impact.
Non-impact printers spray ink or toner powder and the characters are fixed onto the
paper by heating. Examples of non-impact printers are inkjet printers, laser printers
and thermal printers.
Impact printers strike the paper when printing. The most popular impact printer is a
dot-matrix printer. Dot-matrix printers print multiple copies using carbon paper.
