Title The Vision of the Fountain
Author’s Biography Nathaniel Hawthorne's birth took place on July 4, 1804, in
Salem, Massachusetts, in the United States. Hawthorne is noted
as a renowned writer in the United States and a romantic author
who is not widely recognized. He was recognized as one of the
most outstanding writers of the 19th century, being one of the
most relevant referents of romantic literature in the United
States. Hawthorne showed a great interest in history, morality
and religion that transcended the conventional. Hawthorne's
literary creations transmit a series of different teachings,
including ethical and moral messages. A book called The Look
to the Fountainhead was released in the year 1837, which is
recognized as one of Hawthorne's most outstanding works.
Finally, he passed away on May 19, 1864, in Plymouth, New
Hampshire, in the United States.
Setting The September morning dawned with a warm and pleasant
(Place, Time, temperature, while a bright light enveloped its surroundings. It
Environment) gave the impression that we were experiencing the height of
summer, basking in a pleasant and warm atmosphere. In an
extensive forest, there were numerous oak trees mingling with
some walnut trees. There were many bushes and rocks on the
ground. I continue walking next to a stream with clean and
transparent waters, surrounded by lush and leafy vegetation.
After that instant, the months progress until January where they
stop. During the cold days, the sun illuminates the snow and
causes a beautiful phenomenon where you can see a rainbow on
the hill covered in white. Despite its coldness and loneliness,
the winter let the snow show, creating a contrast with the spring
that I had enjoyed so much.
Main character The protagonist of this story is a fifteen-year-old boy. He was
(Identify and describe) fascinated by observing the beauty that emerged during the
blooming of the spring season. He was an exceptional child
who experienced a deep connection with melancholy. Every
day, his existence centered on that place, nostalgically reliving
and keeping alive the hope of meeting again the woman who
was once the object of his dreams.
Secondary character(s) Supporting character, a woman of young age and physical

she has the responsibility of causing the conflicts that impact
the protagonist.
Plot: The narrator tells the story of a boy who decided to venture into
Introduction the forest in search of a pleasant moment. However, during his
walk, he came across a lady and had an experience that he
interpreted as a moment of revelation.
Plot: She stumbles upon an ancient fountain and is amazed by its
Rising action extraordinary aesthetic appearance. She stands in the vicinity of
the fountain for long intervals, immersed in her thoughts and
her ability to mentally visualize.
Plot: The protagonist encountered a woman who bore a striking
Climax or turning point physical resemblance to the girl he had seen in his vision.
Plot: The woman strikes up a conversation with him and explains
Falling action that the fountain represents the main spirit of Rome, being
available only to those who possess inner purity.
Plot: Rachel turns out to be the real beneficiary of the town's
Conclusion or resolution properties, a fact she had kept secret until now and which led
her to move away from home to pursue her studies at a distant
local school.
Conflict: In the story, the main character witnessed an impressive event
(Identify and classify) when he perceived a figure in the fountain that was not his own

Theme or Central The lesson of this story is that true happiness cannot be trapped

unexpectedly by searching for it properly. The young man
strives to find the girl he has seen, but to no avail, which causes
him deep sadness. However, it is essential to bear in mind that
this fact is only a deception and will not constitute a genuine
source of happiness.
Point of view: The protagonist is the narrator of the story and tells the events

Explain
Thoughts about the story I loved the narrative of this story, despite its brevity and
Paragraph (5 sentences) understandable simplicity. By delving into the story, you move
and experience first-hand what is being told. The young man
experienced a moment full of emotion when he had the
opportunity to contemplate the charming girl and realized that
he was not hallucinating her presence. Currently, young people
could establish relationships with girls through the internet and
social networks as a viable option. Over the years, important
transformations have been noted in all areas throughout history.
Some time ago, it was difficult to locate someone due to the
restrictions on communication, in contrast to the abundant
availability of means to contact us today. In case of lacking
information about the person in question, it was extremely
difficult to find her whereabouts. The way in which the story is
told has notable discrepancies with the actuality experienced by
a fifteen-year-old individual. The presence of a romantic,
distressing, and restless feeling due to uncertainty has been
observed. I'm not trying to suggest that we don't currently
experience these feelings, I just want to point out that because
of the prevalence of superficiality, it's more accessible to get
them. I firmly believe that history is an invaluable treasure, as it
provides the present generations with vast knowledge and
valuable lessons. The story was very deep and relevant, as it
dealt with events that are rare in today's world.
