00:01:05.319 ...and take a decision
00:01:07.360 that you, otherwise, wouldn't...
00:01:08.880 ...क्योंकि आकार,निर्माण, तथा सरकार, इन सब के कारण...
00:01:12.360 what would that one thing be?
00:01:14.080 I'll tell you--
00:01:22.840 शुरु करें?
00:01:23.960 How many podcasts have you done until now?
00:01:25.920 Twenty-five, sir.
00:01:27.160 -Twenty-five?-Yes.
00:01:28.360 -But we only do one in a month.-Okay.
00:01:31.160 Every month, one day, one podcast,
00:01:33.360 and we don't do anything elsefor the rest of the month.
00:01:34.960 But the person you're going to interview,
00:01:37.280 -you give them a month's time...-Yes.
00:01:40.240 -...to get comfortable.-हां।
00:01:44.040 We do it in-depth.
00:01:45.760 Most of our podcastsare about entrepreneurship.
00:01:49.160 Our audience is in that categoryof 15-40 years old,
00:01:53.520 who are just gettinginto entrepreneurship.
00:01:56.600 So, we did an episodeon artificial intelligence,
00:02:00.280 an episode on metaverse, one on pharmaceuticals.
00:02:05.520 So, we work on very specific subjects.
00:02:08.800 And we've recently starteda new one called "People,"
00:02:11.720 in which we spoke with peoplelike Bill Gates.
00:02:14.240 लेकिन विशेष करकेवो जिस उद्योग से संबंधित हैं...
00:02:18.080 This is the first timeI'm being part of a podcast.
00:02:22.800 And that's why, this world is very new for me.
00:02:27.680 So, sir, please forgive me if my Hindiis not very good. I am a South
Indian.
00:02:32.440 I grew up mostly in Bangalore.
00:02:34.880 And people out there--My mother is from the city of Mysore.
00:02:40.760 And there, people mostly speak in Kannada. My father was from
Mangalore.
00:02:45.520 I learnt Hindi in school.
00:02:47.600 But I'm not very fluent in it.
00:02:54.880 And people say thatmost of the communication is non-verbal,
00:02:59.040 which is understoodby just looking at one another.
00:03:01.840 तो मुझे लगता है कि हम ठीक हैं।
00:03:03.360 You see, I am not a Hindi speaker as well. So, this will work for both
of us.
00:03:10.880 And our podcastis not a traditional interview.
00:03:15.120 I am not a journalist.
00:03:17.520 We mostly talk with peoplewho are aspiring to be entrepreneurs.
00:03:24.920 We tell them what are the requirementsto become an entrepreneur in an
industry,
00:03:30.880 where they can get the initial funding,
00:03:33.360 where they can findthe material to learn online.
00:03:36.600 So, we are into that zone.
00:03:38.520 ...और आज हम राजनीतिऔर आन्ट्रप्रनर्शिप के बीच
00:03:43.120 समानताएं खींचने की कोशिश करेंगे...
00:03:45.880 Because I feel that there aremany similarities between the two
00:03:50.840 that no one has talked about until now.
00:03:53.920 So, we will take that directionand move ahead.
00:03:55.960 If you have questions during this podcast, you can go ahead.
00:03:59.680 I may not have any good answers,
00:04:01.800 but, please, feel free to ask.
00:04:05.240 The first thing I would liketo talk about in this podcast
00:04:07.880 is the first half of your life.
00:04:13.440 Pre-PM, Pre-CM, where were you born?
00:04:17.120 What did you do in the first ten years?
00:04:20.120 ...अगर आप अपने जीवन के प्रथम युगके बारे में बताना चाहें...
00:04:24.960 Everyone knows that I was born in Gujarat,
00:04:30.000 in North Gujarat, Mehsana district.
00:04:34.640 There is a small town called Vadnagar.
00:04:38.520 When I was little,its population was around 15,000.
00:04:43.840 That's what I remember.I am from that place.
00:04:50.400 Back then, I also belonged to a village, like everyone else.
00:04:57.320 My village was a Gaekwad state.
00:05:01.000 Gaekwad states had a speciality.
00:05:03.840 Every village was awareof the importance of education.
00:05:09.200 They always had a pond,
00:05:12.000 a post office,
00:05:14.600 and a library...a handful of such things, you know.
00:05:17.880 A Gaekwad state villagewill definitely have these things.
00:05:22.040 This was their set-up.
00:05:25.040 I studied at the primary schoolof that Gaekwad state.
00:05:31.520 Anyway, I spent my childhood there.
00:05:35.080 There was a pond,so I learnt to swim there.
00:05:39.240 I used to wash the clothesof all my family members.
00:05:43.240 Because of that,I was allowed to go to the pond.
00:05:47.400 There was BhagwatacharyaNarayanacharya High School there.
00:05:51.720 B.N. High School.
00:05:54.000 That was also a charitable institution.
00:05:56.360 It wasn't like an education systemthat you see nowadays.
00:06:03.240 That's where I did my education.
00:06:07.040 At that time, it wasn't 10+2 system. We used to have grade 11.
00:06:13.280 I had read somewhere
00:06:16.760 that the Chinese philosopher, Hiuen Tsang, had lived in my village.
00:06:23.240 They were going to make a film about him.
00:06:26.080 So I wrote a letter to their embassy.
00:06:31.440 I said, "I've read somewhere thatyou're making a film about Hiuen
Tsang.
00:06:37.760 He used to live in my village.I hope you will mention it."
00:06:42.520 I remember doing something like this. That was many years ago.
00:06:46.520 Before that, in my village,
00:06:50.440 there was someone named Rasikbhai Dave.
00:06:52.520 He was a Congress leader. He was also a socialist.
00:06:56.360 He was originally from Saurashtra, but he had settled in my village.
00:07:00.360 He used to tell the schoolchildren,"When you walk around
00:07:04.600 and find any stone with an inscription
00:07:09.680 or if something is carved on it,
00:07:15.640 then collect those stonesand put it in this corner of the school."
00:07:19.280 Gradually, it grew into a big pile.
00:07:21.760 That's when I realised his intention.As this was a very ancient
village,
00:07:28.840 every stone here has a story.
00:07:32.640 Collecting those in one placemight be of use for someone one day.
00:07:36.200 It could merely be his imagination.
00:07:38.440 So, it grabbed my attention too.
00:07:41.840 In 2014, when I became the Prime Minister,
00:07:47.360 naturally, I got courtesy callsfrom the world leaders.
00:07:52.280 So I got a courtesy callfrom the Chinese President, President Xi.
00:07:58.680 He wished me well.
00:08:00.640 Then he said to me,"I want to come to India."
00:08:06.440 I said, "You are most welcome. Please do visit us."
00:08:11.040 He said, "But I want to go to Gujarat."
00:08:16.080 I said, "That's even better."
00:08:19.520 He said, "I want to goto your village, Vadnagar."
00:08:26.040 I said, "That's great.You've already planned your itinerary!"
00:08:31.240 He said, "Do you know the reason?"
00:08:33.440 I said, "No, I don't know."
00:08:35.919 He said, "There is a special relationshipbetween us."
00:08:39.919 I asked, "What is it?"
00:08:42.520 He said, "Hiuen Tsang, the Chinese philosopher,
00:08:47.000 he stayed in your villagefor the longest time.
00:08:51.480 But when he returned to China,he stayed in my village."
00:08:57.000 He said, "This is the connectionbetween the two of us."
00:09:02.560 And if you can recollect your childhood,
00:09:08.200 when you were young, were you a good student?
00:09:13.160 -Well, I---What were your interests back then?
00:09:15.280 I was a very ordinary student. I wasn't...
00:09:20.560 I wasn't someone who would get noticed.
00:09:25.960 But I had a teacherby the name of Veljibhai Chaudhary.
00:09:31.680 He had a soft corner for me.
00:09:37.080 One day, he went to meet my father.
00:09:40.960 He told my father that he is so talented,
00:09:45.480 but he's not focused.
00:09:47.880 He just does random things.
00:09:51.960 He grasps everything very quickly,
00:09:57.920 but then he gets lost in his own world.
00:10:01.480 So, Veljibhai Chaudharyhad a lot of expectations from me.
00:10:07.840 My teachers loved me a lot.
00:10:13.480 But I--
00:10:17.000 If I had to study hard, or if there wasany element of competition,
00:10:21.960 I used to run away from it.
00:10:23.960 I wasn't interested in it.
00:10:26.440 Passing in the exams was enough for me.
00:10:30.680 That's how I was.
00:10:33.000 But I was involvedin many other activities.
00:10:35.480 If there was anything new, that would interest me immediately.
00:10:40.560 That was my nature.
00:10:44.280 Sir, do you have any childhood friendswith whom you are still in
touch?
00:10:49.680 My case is slightly strange.
00:10:54.840 I left home at a very young age.
00:10:59.560 I mean, I left everything behind.
00:11:01.240 I had no contact with anyone.
00:11:04.080 This created a big gap.
00:11:06.800 I had no contact with anyone.
00:11:08.640 I wasn't in touch with anyone.
00:11:10.360 I was, you know, lost in life, wandering.
00:11:16.000 There was no one left to care.
00:11:18.400 So my life was very different.
00:11:21.320 But after I became the CM,some desires arose in my mind.
00:11:28.840 One of them was to invitemy former classmates to the CM house.
00:11:38.720 My idea behind it was
00:11:42.040 that I didn't want anyone to thinkthat I considered myself high and
mighty.
00:11:49.520 I am the same personwho left the village years ago.
00:11:54.560 I haven't changed at all.
00:11:56.760 I wanted to relive that moment.
00:12:00.520 And the way I could relive thatwas to spend time with those friends.
00:12:05.000 But I couldn't even recognise them.
00:12:07.960 Because there had been a long gap.
00:12:10.400 Everyone's hair had turned grey.
00:12:14.120 The kids had grown up.
00:12:15.360 But I invited everyone.
00:12:17.720 There were around 30-35 people.
00:12:20.720 And we had dinner together. We chatted a lot.
00:12:24.520 We relived our childhood memories.
00:12:27.760 But I didn't really enjoy it.
00:12:31.560 I didn't enjoy itbecause I was looking for friends,
00:12:37.680 while they saw me as the CM.
00:12:41.760 I couldn't bridge that gap.
00:12:45.200 Now, there is perhaps no one leftin my life who'd address me as "tu".
00:12:51.080 That's how it is now.Yes, everyone is still in touch.
00:12:54.640 But they treat me with a lot of respect.
00:12:58.960 I had a teacher, Rasbihari Maniyar.
00:13:02.560 He passed away some time ago.
00:13:04.880 And he was around 93 or 94 years old.
00:13:09.040 He used to write letters to me,and he always wrote "tu".
00:13:13.240 Others--
00:13:15.080 So, after becoming the CM,one of my wishes
00:13:20.080 was to meet my school friends, and I did that.
00:13:23.240 I had another wishwhich might sound strange to Indians.
00:13:28.400 I wanted to publicly honourall my teachers.
00:13:35.000 So, all my teachers
00:13:39.360 who taught me during my school years,
00:13:43.080 I searched for all of them.
00:13:46.160 And after becoming the CM,I organised a grand event to honour them.
00:13:50.520 Our Governor, Mr. Sharma,
00:13:55.120 he also attended that event.
00:13:57.080 All the reputed personalities of Gujaratattended that event.
00:14:02.360 I had a thought in my mind:
00:14:05.160 to acknowledge their contributionin making me what I am today.
00:14:10.880 Some of them would have beenmy teachers from kindergarten.
00:14:15.200 The oldest teacher was 93 years old.
00:14:18.800 I invited around 30-32 teachers,
00:14:21.840 and I honoured each one in public.
00:14:27.040 It was a beautiful moment in my lifethat touched my heart.
00:14:32.640 Then I dedicated one day in my life
00:14:37.080 to my entire family,
00:14:40.120 my brothers and their children,
00:14:45.920 my sisters and their children,my family members.
00:14:48.600 I wouldn't be able to recognise themeither as I had left home.
00:14:53.800 But one day, I invited everyoneto the CM House.
00:14:58.200 I was introduced to the family members.
00:15:03.080 "Whose son is he? Who is married to whom?"
00:15:06.480 Because I had lost touch with them.
00:15:08.920 So, this was the third thing I did.
00:15:11.600 The fourth thing--During my initial Sangh days,
00:15:15.760 the families who gave me food...to whom I went for my meals...
00:15:21.800 There were many families who fed me.
00:15:25.680 l never made any arrangement for foodas I ate wherever I could.
00:15:29.960 So, I invited all of them.
00:15:32.280 So, the things that I did willinglyfor myself over the last 25 years,
00:15:39.040 they are these four things.
00:15:41.600 I invited my school friends.
00:15:43.680 I invited the families that fed me.
00:15:46.960 I invited my family members.
00:15:49.440 And I invited my teachers.
00:15:53.800 You may not remember, but you visited Bangalore a few years ago.
00:15:57.560 You met people who were into start-ups.
00:16:10.880 And if you remember,I was asking questions back then, too.
00:16:17.680 ...मुझे लगता है कि उत्तर देने से ज़्यादा,प्रश्न पूछना आसान है...
00:16:21.840 I was telling you things like,
00:16:27.600 whatever is happening, perhaps, is not good,
00:16:31.040 and you were listening.
00:16:48.280 If you could define an age group, what would it be?
00:16:53.200 This was said about me, by and large,
00:16:57.480 that, "If you want to find Naren bhai, then where would you look for
him?
00:17:00.920 He'll be standing around, guffawing with a bunch of young men."
00:17:07.200 That was also my image.
00:17:10.119 That is why,
00:17:12.640 perhaps today,
00:17:16.359 regardless of the field or the age group,
00:17:24.400 I don't feel the disconnect.
00:17:27.000 I may not have a perfect answerabout the word "connect",
00:17:32.680 but I blend well with everyone.
00:17:37.160 Like you said thatyou don't like competition,
00:17:42.600 people like Jiddu Krishnamurti,a lot of very evolved thinkers,
00:17:48.920 they say that competition is not good.
00:17:51.760 ...ऐसे सिद्धांतों वाला व्यक्ति अगरवोे राजनीति में आए...
00:17:56.120 where there is a lot of competition,
00:17:59.280 how can they bringthe same ideology into politics?
00:18:03.560 Look, running from competition as a childmust have been mere laziness.
00:18:07.280 There is no great philosophy behind it.
00:18:10.760 In my case, it must have been the usualirresponsible behaviour found
in children.
00:18:15.960 I don't thinkI was guided by any philosophy.
00:18:20.680 I was like, "It's okayif he scored better than me.
00:18:23.760 Why should I work harder?"
00:18:27.720 So--
00:18:29.360 Secondly, I was like an all-rounder.
00:18:33.240 I'd get involved in everythingthat I laid my hands on.
00:18:40.560 If there was an essay competition,I'd be in it.
00:18:46.960 If there was a drama competition,I'd be in it.
00:18:52.120 I mean,I would do these things effortlessly.
00:18:57.960 Now, I--
00:19:02.440 I had a teacher by the name of Mr. Parmar.
00:19:08.760 He was very-- I mean--
00:19:13.720 He was our PT teacher,a physical training teacher.
00:19:19.080 There was a small wrestling ringin a mansion.
00:19:25.920 I was so inspired by himthat I started going there regularly.
00:19:29.680 I used to learn Mallakhamba at that time.
00:19:32.520 -I used to learn wrestling.-What is "Mallakhamba," sir? Wrestling.
00:19:34.560 Wrestling and Mallakhamba.
00:19:37.080 -They have a huge wooden pillar.-Okay.
00:19:39.480 On that--
00:19:41.000 Especially in Maharashtra, they practise Mallakhamba.
00:19:44.320 -I see.-And it's--
00:19:46.880 It is an excellent form of exercisefor a well-built body.
00:19:52.000 You can say thatit is a kind of yoga on a pole.
00:19:57.800 I'd wake up at 5:00 am and go to him.
00:20:02.080 And he also trained me hard.
00:20:05.760 But I did not become an athlete.
00:20:08.440 I practised it for a whileand then I quit. That's all.
00:20:14.440 Is there anything
00:20:19.120 that can be considered a talentfor a politician in politics?
00:20:25.040 For example, in entrepreneurship,
00:20:28.200 when one starts a company, you inherently need a few talents.
00:20:33.280 Like, someone with good marketing skills, someone with good sales
skills,
00:20:36.880 or someone who is tech-savvyand can develop the product.
00:20:40.760 If a youngster wantsto become a politician today,
00:20:44.720 are there any talentsthat you'd want them to have?
00:20:50.920 There are two different things.
00:20:54.320 Becoming a politician is one thing.
00:20:58.960 And being successful in politicsis another thing.
00:21:02.360 So, there are two different things.
00:21:04.160 So, it's one thing to come into politics.
00:21:09.720 Being successful is another thing.
00:21:13.000 I believe for that, you need
00:21:15.640 ...समर्पण, ज़िम्मेदारी...
00:21:19.000 You must stand with the peoplein their good and bad times.
00:21:24.440 You must be a good team player.
00:21:30.000 If you become egotisticaland try to run everything on your terms,
00:21:34.920 expect everyone to obey you,
00:21:36.960 then you--
00:21:38.080 It is possible he might getinto politics and win elections,
00:21:41.800 but there is no guarantee thathe will become a successful politician.
00:21:47.920 In this country-- sometimes I feel
00:21:51.480 that my ideas might create a controversy.
00:21:58.400 During the Independence Movement,
00:22:02.440 people from all walks of life had joined, but not everyone came into
politics.
00:22:10.800 Some dedicated their livesin the field of education,
00:22:14.400 some got into khadi,
00:22:17.040 some worked in the fieldof adult education,
00:22:20.320 some worked for the welfareof the tribal communities.
00:22:22.080 They were all involvedin some form of productive work.
00:22:24.800 But it was a movementinspired by patriotism,
00:22:28.600 the freedom movement.
00:22:30.640 Everyone was passionate about it.
00:22:33.320 That they will dowhatever it takes to free India.
00:22:37.760 After independence, some of them came into politics.
00:22:45.480 And in the beginning,if you look at our politicians,
00:22:49.680 all the stalwart leaders that we had,
00:22:52.120 they were all freedom fighters.
00:22:55.640 So, their thinking, their maturity, their form are different.
00:22:59.760 They are completely different.
00:23:01.640 The things they say, the things you hearabout their behaviour...
00:23:07.560 They have a great dedicationtowards the society.
00:23:13.000 And that is why I think,
00:23:15.640 that good peopleshould keep coming into politics.
00:23:19.720 They should come with a mission,
00:23:24.400 not with an ambition.
00:23:28.080 If you have come with a mission, you will get a good position
somewhere.
00:23:35.080 But your mission should be above ambition.
00:23:40.720 Then you will have the capability.Take the example of Mahatma Gandhi.
00:23:45.800 If you look at the definitionof a leader of this era,
00:23:50.240 then Mahatma Gandhi does not fit in that.
00:23:53.840 Personality wise,he was very thinly built,
00:24:00.360 he was not an orator.
00:24:05.360 So, if you look at it that way,he could not have become a leader.
00:24:08.680 So, what was the reason?
00:24:10.640 His way of life did the talking.
00:24:15.360 And this power
00:24:18.600 made him a leader of the countryand made everyone stand up.
00:24:23.800 And that is why, nowadays,
00:24:27.840 politicians are being seenin the professional category
00:24:33.160 as the oneswho can give flattering speeches.
00:24:37.000 This can go on for a few days, they get applauded.
00:24:40.280 But ultimately,it is your way of life that rewards you.
00:24:44.280 And my other theory...
00:24:49.240 is that communication is more important
00:24:54.640 than the art of speech, that is oratory.
00:24:59.840 How do you communicate?
00:25:02.120 Now, look at Mahatma Gandhi.
00:25:06.000 He carried a stick taller than himself,
00:25:10.720 but he advocated non-violence.
00:25:14.000 That was a huge contrast.
00:25:16.560 But he used to communicate well.
00:25:19.000 Mahatma Gandhi never wore a cap,
00:25:22.280 but everyone else wore the Gandhi cap.
00:25:26.240 He had the power of communication.
00:25:28.640 Mahatma Gandhi's field was political
00:25:33.880 but he did not have a political system.
00:25:37.280 He didn't contest in elections.
00:25:39.400 He did not head any government.
00:25:40.920 But after his death, the placehe was cremated in was called Raj Ghat.
00:25:46.200 And, sir, what you have just said,
00:25:49.080 the main pointof today's conversation is that,
00:26:15.320 It was announced from the Red Fortthat India needs one lakh...
00:26:19.640 such young peoplewho should join politics, and--
00:26:25.960 I believe that...
00:26:31.200 "to take, to get, or to become,"
00:26:36.280 if this is the goal, then the lifespan won't be very long.
00:26:45.720 The first training thatan entrepreneur has, is to grow.
00:26:51.920 Here, the first training is,
00:26:55.200 to absorb for yourself.
00:26:57.760 To give whatever you have.
00:27:03.400 On the other side, how can I,
00:27:06.840 my company, or my profession,
00:27:10.000 how can it be top-ranking?
00:27:14.920 Here, it is
00:27:16.000 ...राष्ट्र पहले...
00:27:19.400 That makes a huge difference.
00:27:22.120 And even the society
00:27:25.400 accepts only the people whoprimarily think about the nation first.
00:27:30.600 And the political life is not easy at all.
00:27:34.560 It is not what people believe.
00:27:37.240 Some people are lucky.
00:27:39.560 They don't have to struggle. They keep getting benefits.
00:27:44.680 There might be some reasons.I don't want to get into that, but I know.
00:27:48.880 We had a party workerby the name of Ashok Bhatt.
00:27:57.000 He used to live in a small housetill the end of his life.
00:27:59.800 He became a minister many times.
00:28:02.120 He didn't have a car of his own.
00:28:07.480 And, earlier, there wereno mobile phones, just a landline.
00:28:12.240 If you called him at 3:00 in the night,
00:28:16.640 he would pick up the phoneafter half a ring.
00:28:20.600 And if you told him--
00:28:22.560 Because at that time,I wasn't in politics, but--
00:28:26.560 In Ahmedabad, Rajkot, there were many accidents on the highway,
00:28:32.560 at a place called Bagodara.
00:28:34.520 So, I used to get a callevery 2-3 days a week
00:28:37.920 that there was a big accident here.
00:28:40.880 So I used to call Ashok Bhatt.
00:28:43.720 And, he used to say, "Oh, okay."
00:28:46.760 In a few seconds, he would leave home.He didn't have his own car.
00:28:49.520 He would catch hold of someone,or go by a truck.
00:28:53.200 He lived like this his whole life.
00:28:56.040 क्या आप ये भी कहना चाहते हैं कि...
00:28:59.480 youth shouldn't think thatthey have to become a politician?
00:29:03.440 But they should think what they will doafter becoming a politician?
00:29:08.680 The thing is,
00:29:10.280 most people don't want to be a politician.Rather they say, "I want to
become an MLA.
00:29:15.600 I want to be a corporator.I want to be an MP."
00:29:20.600 That is a completely different category.
00:29:22.880 To become a politician,it is not necessary to contest elections.
00:29:29.400 It is a part of democracy,if you get a chance, then contest.
00:29:34.760 The vocation should be to winthe hearts of ordinary people.
00:29:39.080 Elections can be won later.
00:29:41.960 And to win the hearts of ordinary people,
00:29:45.320 one has to live with them.
00:29:50.120 One has to connect with their lives.
00:29:53.480 And even today, there are such people in the country.
00:29:58.880 If you talk abouttoday's young politicians,
00:30:04.240 ...क्या आपको किसी मेंइतना सामर्थ्य दिखता है?
00:30:09.000 There are many.
00:30:12.080 And they toil very hard.
00:30:14.960 They work very hard day and night.
00:30:18.000 They work with a mission in mind.
00:30:21.520 Is there any one person in your mind?
00:30:23.520 If I say a name,it will be injustice to many people.
00:30:27.000 So, it is my responsibilitynot to do injustice to anyone.
00:30:31.680 But there are a lot of names,a lot of faces in front of me.
00:30:35.160 I know the details of a lot of people.
00:30:38.840 As you were saying earlierthat living with people,
00:30:44.640 ...लोगों के प्रति संवेदना रखना,वो सहानुभूति, हमदर्दी...
00:30:48.480 Was there anything in your childhood
00:30:52.880 ...जिस की वजह से आप इस तरह बन पाए?
00:30:55.840 Meaning?
00:30:57.360 Meaning, as you were saying, when you wanted to become a politician,
00:31:01.560 ...तो वो आप के बारे में नहीं है,आप अमुख्य हैं...
00:31:05.320 The people for whom you are a politician, they become primary.
00:31:10.280 Was there anything in your childhood, because of which--
00:31:13.520 The thing is, I didn't make my own life.
00:31:23.360 It is due to the circumstances.
00:31:28.320 The life that I have spentsince my childhood,
00:31:33.560 I don't want to get deep into it,because my childhood was different.
00:31:40.840 But life teaches you a lot.
00:31:48.200 And, maybe, that was my biggest university.
00:31:53.000 That university has been a problem for me,
00:31:56.440 which teaches me.
00:32:00.960 And, maybe,I have learnt to love the problem,
00:32:05.360 and that has taught me a lot.
00:32:08.840 I come from that state,
00:32:11.600 where I have seen mothers and sisters
00:32:13.640 carrying a pot on their head, walking 2-3 kilometres in search of
water.
00:32:21.080 Then I feel,after 75 years of independence,
00:32:26.920 can I get them access to water?
00:32:30.920 So, this activity of mineis due to that empathy.
00:32:38.400 Plans would have been implemented earlier, and I don't claim those.
00:32:43.280 People must have had dreams before.
00:32:46.160 But I toil hard for those dreams,
00:32:49.720 and it could be anyone's dreams.
00:32:52.120 But, if that dream is right, then it is my job to get it fulfilled,
00:32:56.880 so that it is beneficial for the country.
00:32:59.800 When I became the Chief Minister,I gave a speech.
00:33:03.640 And, unassumingly I had said
00:33:07.040 I will not shy away from hard work.
00:33:12.080 Secondly,I will not do anything for myself.
00:33:17.160 And thirdly, I am humanand I can make mistakes.
00:33:21.920 I will not do anything wrongout of bad intentions.
00:33:25.800 And I consider thoselike a mantra for my life.
00:33:28.720 Mistakes are inevitable,I too must have made mistakes.
00:33:30.960 I am a human too. I am not a god.
00:33:35.760 Humans do make mistakes.
00:33:39.560 I will not do anything wrongout of bad intentions.
00:33:42.000 This is what I have always believed in.
00:33:44.480 Do you think that your belief systems
00:33:48.720 ...वो धारणाएं जो आप के लिएबहुत महत्वपूर्ण हैं...
00:33:53.600 which you believed 20 years ago,if it changes today,
00:33:59.960 ...क्या ये अच्छी बात है या बुरी?
00:34:02.600 For example?
00:34:04.080 For example, today I am 38 years old.
00:34:08.719 When I was perhaps, 20 years old,I used to think that
00:34:13.760 ...पूंजीवाद ही दुनिया का सही साधन है...
00:34:17.679 And, now when I am 38 years old,
00:34:20.480 ...शायद मैं अपना मन बदलना चाहूंगा...
00:34:25.080 20 years ago
00:34:26.280 ...की आपकी कही गई बातों परलोग अवश्य अडे रहेंगे।
00:34:29.800 लेकिन मेरा मानना है कि ये केवल विकास याएक परिवर्तन है, जो ज़्यादा डेटा
के साथ...
00:34:35.440 people's preconceived beliefs do change.
00:34:38.800 I still believe in capitalism.I am just saying this as an example.
00:34:42.520 But did you have such beliefs
00:34:46.520 that you agreed upon 10-20 years ago,and today you don't?
00:34:51.080 There are two things.
00:34:53.159 One, in which case, there are some peoplewho don't remain steadfast on
anything.
00:34:58.160 They keep on changing, and do not stick to one thing.
00:35:02.360 I am not that kind of a person.
00:35:05.600 I--
00:35:08.800 have grown up with only one belief.
00:35:13.120 And, if my ideology,
00:35:18.000 is told
00:35:21.280 in very few words,
00:35:25.120 then it has to be,
00:35:27.160 ...राष्ट्र पहले...
00:35:31.120 If my tagline is "Nation First",
00:35:35.320 then whatever fits into it,
00:35:39.200 it does not bind mein the shackles of ideology.
00:35:43.600 It does not bind mein the shackles of traditions.
00:35:47.160 It is necessary for me to take it forward,
00:35:50.000 and so, I do it.
00:35:52.000 If I have to leave old ideas behind, then I am ready to discard them.
00:35:55.720 I am ready to accept new things.
00:35:57.760 But the tagline would be,
00:36:00.120 "Nation First."
00:36:02.080 I have only one scale.
00:36:04.120 I don't change the measure.
00:36:05.880 If I rephrase this question:
00:36:09.880 Is it the politicians' ideologythat gains them followers?
00:36:17.200 Or, is it the society's ideologythat the politicians copy,
00:36:21.360 which in turn, earns them the followers?
00:36:23.720 Idealism is far more importantthan ideology.
00:36:30.880 I am not saying thatpolitics can exist without ideology,
00:36:37.080 but idealism is very much needed.
00:36:42.360 For example, what was the ideologybefore freedom? There was agitation.
00:36:47.800 आज़ादी।
00:36:49.760 Freedom.
00:36:51.080 That was the only ideology.
00:36:52.800 Gandhi-ji's path was different, but the ideology was freedom.
00:36:56.040 Savarkar's path was his own,but the ideology was different.
00:37:01.000 Which was? Freedom.
00:37:03.720 People say that you need to be callousto become a politician.
00:37:08.880 Thick-skinned!
00:37:10.760 ...कोई ऐसा किस तरह से बन सकता है?
00:37:14.520 People will troll you.
00:37:16.040 They will criticise you publicly.
00:37:18.680 They will create stories about you.
00:37:21.480 For a normal person, this would be a new experience.
00:37:26.040 How can one learn this?
00:37:28.640 Politics requires sensitive people.
00:37:32.800 We need people who feel deeply movedby someone's suffering.
00:37:37.880 The second topic is,accusations and counter-accusations.
00:37:41.400 In a democracy, you should acceptthat people will accuse you
00:37:49.240 for various reasons, but if you are right
00:37:55.160 and you have not done anything wrong, you will never face any problem.
00:38:01.640 Sir, you have been the CMin the pre-social media politics,
00:38:07.440 and now, in the post-social media, you are the PM.
00:38:12.480 How has politics changed during this time?
00:38:14.960 You have seen both, the earlier times and today's times,
00:38:18.600 when social media was not so important
00:38:21.360 and today, when it has become very important.
00:38:24.480 Keeping this in mind,if you were to advise the youth,
00:38:28.160 who wants to become a politician, how should they use the social media?
00:38:32.120 At times, this question comes upwhen I meet young kids.
00:38:36.440 They question me regarding this.
00:38:38.960 I also like to chat with them.
00:38:41.960 Students from the 8th and 9th gradesvisit me now and then.
00:38:45.360 They ask me how I feelwhen I see myself on TV?
00:38:50.320 They ask me like that.
00:38:51.920 Some children ask mehow do I feel when I am abused so much?
00:38:57.680 I tell them a joke.
00:39:00.200 I tell them that I am an Amdavadi,
00:39:03.320 and our Amdavadi people
00:39:07.400 have a unique identity. They joke a lot.
00:39:11.840 Once, an Amdavadi
00:39:15.520 was riding on his scooter
00:39:18.920 and almost collided with someonefrom behind.
00:39:24.560 The other person got angry,
00:39:27.880 and they started arguing.
00:39:33.400 The other person started abusing.
00:39:35.880 The Amdavadi remainedstanding with his scooter.
00:39:39.440 The other person kept on abusing.
00:39:42.240 Suddenly someone came and said,"What kind of a person are you?
00:39:46.840 He is abusing so muchand you are standing just like that."
00:39:51.920 The Amdavadi said,
00:39:54.040 "He is just giving,
00:39:56.120 but he is not taking anything, right?"
00:39:59.800 This is a typical Amdavadi behaviour,
00:40:01.360 "that someone is giving, and not taking anything away."
00:40:05.360 So, I have also made up my mind. It's okay if they are verbally abusing
me.
00:40:10.360 Whatever they have, they will give.Whatever I have, I will give.
00:40:14.640 But your foundation must be of truth.
00:40:21.080 Have no evil in your heart.
00:40:24.360 Otherwise-- Okay, you tell me.
00:40:28.840 Let's say, you are not into politics,
00:40:31.240 but you work in an office.
00:40:33.000 Doesn't all this happen in an office?
00:40:35.960 Imagine there is a big family,
00:40:38.320 and there is some frictionbetween the two brothers.
00:40:41.640 Does this also happen there or not?
00:40:43.360 In every aspect of life, more or less, all of this will happen.
00:40:48.560 So, based on that, we should notthink about being callous.
00:40:55.160 We should be very sensitive.
00:40:58.080 In public life, without sensitivity,
00:41:01.520 you can't help people.
00:41:06.920 I believe that social mediahas immense power in a democracy.
00:41:13.160 Earlier, there were very few people
00:41:21.040 who were reporting about you.
00:41:24.800 You would consider that to be the truth.
00:41:28.680 Even then, you felt trapped.
00:41:31.640 You didn't haveany opportunity for verification.
00:41:33.920 If someone said that 1,00,000 people died, you believed that to be the
case.
00:41:39.120 Today, you have an alternative.
00:41:41.760 You can verify.
00:41:43.480 If you get certain information, you can verify it on different
platforms.
00:41:46.400 Everything is availableon your mobile phone.
00:41:49.560 If you pay a little attention, you can easily find out the truth.
00:41:56.320 That is why, social mediacan add strength to democracy.
00:42:02.160 Those who are committing crimesbecause of their perversity...
00:42:07.000 Then in society, even in normal circumstances--
00:42:10.560 I still remember when I used to workfor the organisation.
00:42:16.800 No matter what, we,the volunteers of "Jana Sangh"--
00:42:21.800 I was not in politics at that time.
00:42:23.520 There was a lot of humiliation.
00:42:25.800 Whether you had done something or not,you would get verbally abused.
00:42:29.320 Even if there was a drought, the politicians got abused.
00:42:33.480 So it was the same in those times as well.
00:42:35.120 But then, there was print media. Its power was just that much.
00:42:40.480 And now, we have social media. As it was earlier,
00:42:42.840 it is the same today.
00:42:44.280 But today, to find the truth, you have a huge canvas available.
00:42:50.600 Many alternate ways have opened up.
00:42:53.400 And today's youth,mostly, verifies these things.
00:43:00.200 You see, nowadays,whenever I meet children,
00:43:03.960 I am surprised, when they show interest in astronomy.
00:43:09.680 So, Chandrayaan's success has createda new enthusiasm in today's
youth.
00:43:16.520 I meet many children who are awareof Gaganyaan's time table.
00:43:22.000 See the strength of social media.
00:43:24.560 They are following Gaganyaan closely,
00:43:28.160 like the details of the astronauts, where they have been training.
00:43:31.760 The children of grade 8 and 9know all this.
00:43:34.760 This means that social media,
00:43:38.360 in a way, can be considered to havea great power for the new
generation.
00:43:44.920 And, I consider it useful.
00:43:47.080 When I first cameinto the field of politics,
00:43:50.880 I was very young, so there wasno question of me being criticised.
00:43:54.320 But I used to hear such absurd things!
00:43:58.280 I used to wonder, why would people say such things?
00:44:02.600 Why do they behave in this manner?
00:44:05.280 Then, gradually, I realised that politicsis like this, and you have to
manage.
00:44:11.120 Nowadays, a lot of kidshave anxiety problem.
00:44:16.080 I, too, have it.
00:44:18.480 ...मेरे जीवन में उत्सुकताजिस तरह से अचानक प्रकट होती है...
00:44:23.320 like I am sitting with you and talking,
00:44:25.800 ...मुझे घबराहट होती है।मैं उत्सुक हो जाता हूं।...
00:44:27.680 I feel that, I don't know,what will I say? How would you feel?
00:44:36.400 ...मेरे लिए यहां बातचीत करना कठिन है...
00:44:39.720 A lot of kids are talking about anxiety.
00:44:43.520 Have you experienced themin your life, too?
00:44:45.760 When you faced that in your childhood, how did you deal with it?
00:44:52.640 I must have encountered them.
00:44:53.800 It's not like, God kept me away from this.
00:44:59.880 Whatever He has given everyone,He must have given me as well.
00:45:04.200 You see, to manage these things,
00:45:09.240 everyone has his own abilityand individual style.
00:45:13.800 Now, if I want to learn this from you,
00:45:17.040 ...तो ये कैसे सीखा जा सकता है?
00:45:18.880 To say this exactly in the formof a thesis is quite difficult.
00:45:23.880 However, I hold such a position
00:45:26.800 that I have to control my emotions--
00:45:31.280 The natural tendencythat human beings have,
00:45:35.640 I will have to stay detachedfrom all of that.
00:45:38.280 I will have to rise above all that.
00:45:40.480 For example,
00:45:42.040 In the year 2002,
00:45:53.400 there were elections in Gujarat.
00:45:58.120 It was the biggest challenge of my life.
00:46:01.640 By the way, I got many opportunitiesto win elections.
00:46:08.200 I had contested back then, and even made others do so.
00:46:12.640 I never watched TVand didn't check the results.
00:46:17.720 At 11:00 or 12:00 pm,I heard the beat of drums
00:46:22.320 outside the CM's bungalow.
00:46:25.880 I had told everyonenot to inform me till 12:00 pm.
00:46:31.760 Then our operator sent me a letter sayingI was leading by two-third
majority.
00:46:38.680 So, I don't believe thatnothing affected me that day,
00:46:44.880 but, I had a thoughtto overpower that feeling.
00:46:50.000 You can say that there wasrestlessness and anxiety inside me.
00:46:57.280 In the same way,
00:47:06.280 there were
00:47:09.880 bombings at five places.
00:47:15.720 You can imagine my situation, being the CM of the state.
00:47:25.160 So, I said that I want to goto the police control room.
00:47:32.720 But my security team refused.
00:47:36.800 They said,"Sir, it would be unsafe for you to go."
00:47:41.080 I said, "Whatever happens, I will go."
00:47:44.440 They were very worried.
00:47:48.440 Finally, I sat in the car.
00:47:54.040 I said that I would goto the hospital first.
00:47:57.720 They said that there arebombings in the hospitals too.
00:47:59.600 I said that whatever happens, I will go.
00:48:03.200 You can say that there wasrestlessness and anxiety inside me.
00:48:10.040 But my approach was thatI would go along with my mission.
00:48:15.840 Maybe I experience thatin a different way.
00:48:19.960 I feel a sense of responsibilitytowards it.
00:48:24.880 On 24th February, 2002,
00:48:32.120 I became an MLA for the first timein my life.
00:48:35.880 24th February, 2002.
00:48:40.640 On 27th February,I went to the Assembly for the first time.
00:48:46.080 First time in my life, I enteredthe House of Legislative Assembly.
00:48:52.040 I was an MLA for three days only.
00:48:55.560 And suddenly, I came to knowabout that big incident in Godhra.
00:49:00.800 There was a fire in the train.
00:49:02.400 I came to know, gradually, that people were dead.
00:49:04.200 I was obviously very restless.
00:49:06.520 I was worried. I was in the Assembly.
00:49:12.840 As soon as I came out,I said that I wanted to go to Godhra.
00:49:19.240 So, I told them that we will goto Vadodara from here.
00:49:24.200 We will take a helicopter from Vadodara.
00:49:27.960 They said that there was none.
00:49:30.960 I told them to arrange it from somewhere.
00:49:33.560 So, I guess ONGC had one.
00:49:36.360 It was a single engine one.
00:49:38.280 They declined, saying they cannot take a VIP.
00:49:41.120 I said, I am not a VIP.I am a common man. I will go.
00:49:45.520 So, we had a big fight.
00:49:47.480 I said, "I will give it in writing.
00:49:48.800 Whatever happens,it will be my responsibility.
00:49:51.280 I will go on thatsingle-engine helicopter."
00:49:54.680 And I reached Godhra.
00:49:58.320 Now, with that terrible sight...numerous dead bodies...
00:50:03.600 you can very well imagine.
00:50:05.120 I am also a human being.I too have had bad experiences.
00:50:08.880 But I was aware that being on this post...
00:50:13.960 I have to... my emotions...
00:50:17.920 my natural tendency as a human being,I have to stay detached from
everything.
00:50:25.040 I have to rise above all.
00:50:28.480 And, I did whatever I couldto handle myself.
00:50:36.120 But, when I talk to studentson "Pariksha Pe Charcha,"
00:50:41.280 I explain to them very clearly.
00:50:44.080 Keep your mind free, don't worrythat you are going to do something.
00:50:48.760 Treat it as part of your routineand act accordingly.
00:50:53.120 Don't try to wear new clothes that day.
00:50:57.040 Do you think like, what could be the worst case?
00:51:00.560 By worst case, I mean, what can be the worst outcome of this?
00:51:04.640 Do you think like that?
00:51:06.960 I have never thought of life or death.
00:51:13.080 Look, the people who do calculationsin their lives, maybe it is for
them.
00:51:18.720 Perhaps, I will not be ableto answer this.
00:51:23.560 Because, wherever I am today,I'd never planned for that.
00:51:32.440 That is why, I don't know anything.
00:51:35.120 When I became a CM, I was surprised,how did I become one?
00:51:40.440 So, I had never chosenthis path for myself.
00:51:46.120 It's my responsibility now, I'm doing it.Doing it well is my
objective.
00:51:51.800 But I didn't start off with this in mind.
00:51:55.120 That is why,I don't know how to calculate.
00:51:59.080 It happens in ordinary life.
00:52:02.000 Perhaps, I am an exception to this.
00:52:04.200 Because my background is such that,I can never think like that.
00:52:07.800 Someone had asked me, once--And my background is such that,
00:52:13.000 if I had become a primary school teacher,
00:52:16.640 my mother would have distributedsweets in the locality.
00:52:20.320 She would have given sweets to everyone, saying, "My son has become a
teacher."
00:52:23.360 That was my background.
00:52:24.960 That is why, I never had such aspirations.
00:52:27.840 I never thought,"If this doesn't happen, then what?"
00:52:32.360 I don't burden myself with such thoughts.
00:52:37.400 Like you said earlier today,
00:52:39.280 that you get to learn morefrom failure than success.
00:52:45.960 Would you like to talkabout such failures?
00:52:48.760 The day Chandrayaan-2was going to be launched,
00:52:55.400 many people told me,"Sir, you should not go."
00:52:58.680 I asked, "Why?"
00:52:59.800 They said, "Sir, it is uncertain.Every country in the world has
failed.
00:53:04.720 They succeedonly after fourth or sixth attempts.
00:53:07.720 What if something untoward happens?"
00:53:11.480 I said, "So what?
00:53:12.800 Now, don't I have anyresponsibility towards it?
00:53:15.440 So I went.
00:53:17.280 And look what happened.
00:53:19.000 During Chandrayaan's launching,we crashed at the last moment.
00:53:24.320 Everyone present there was worried.
00:53:27.480 No one had the courage to informthe Prime Minister about it.
00:53:31.760 But, whatever I knew about the technology,I could sense that something
was wrong.
00:53:35.360 It is not working.
00:53:37.440 Finally, a senior scientist came to me.I said, "Don't worry."
00:53:43.160 I greeted everyone.
00:53:45.240 That programme was at 2:00 a.m.
00:53:48.040 I went to the guest house.
00:53:51.200 But I could not sleep.
00:53:53.520 I called everyone againafter 30-45 minutes.
00:53:57.440 I said, "Look, if thesepeople are not tired,
00:53:59.400 I want to meet them at 7:00 ambefore I leave."
00:54:02.760 Because it was a big setbackfor the country.
00:54:05.880 But I am not someone who willspend his life crying over a setback.
00:54:12.000 I went in the morningand told all the scientists,
00:54:16.640 "If there is a failure, then it is my responsibility.
00:54:19.480 You attempted very well. Please don't be disappointed."
00:54:22.160 And, I did everything
00:54:25.000 to instil as much self-confidenceas I could in them.
00:54:27.920 And Chandrayaan-3 was successful.
00:54:31.080 Are there any lessons from thisthat have helped you today?
00:54:34.160 Any learnings from this incidentthat you use in politics today?
00:54:41.400 You see, taking risks in politics, requires a lot of preparation.
00:54:46.880 One has to take risk at every moment.
00:54:48.440 When I call one lakh young people,
00:54:53.880 I want to give them my time too...which they want.
00:55:01.520 And I feel that,if the country has such young people,
00:55:05.560 then my dream for 2047can be fulfilled by them.
00:55:13.720 I am not asking them to work for me.
00:55:16.720 -I am asking them to work for the country.-You called them to join
politics.
00:55:19.720 But... but--
00:55:23.720 they should not have what is called
00:55:25.280 ...अज्ञात का डर...
00:55:28.720 That's why I want to stand by them.
00:55:31.480 "Don't worry. Let's go, friends."
00:55:34.640 And don't come with the intentions of"taking, getting, or becoming"
anything.
00:55:39.200 Politics has great importancein democracy.
00:55:43.000 Give it dignity.
00:55:44.560 If politics gets more dignity,
00:55:47.840 there will be greater purification.
00:55:51.760 If we call it useless and dirty, then it will remain the same.
00:55:57.080 We should give dignityso that good people come in.
00:56:00.120 So, this is my attempt.
00:56:02.960 This is one thing where I am sayingmore youngsters should join
politics.
00:56:08.880 When I talk about myself, there are two things.
00:56:13.280 The first thing is that I like my job.
00:56:17.040 I like investing in companiesand stock markets.
00:56:20.760 I have been doing this for 20 years
00:56:22.960 ...मुझे अपने काम से बहुत प्यार हैऔर पसंद करता हूं...
00:56:26.480 And the second thing is that
00:56:29.840 ...एक दक्षिण भारतीय मध्यम-वर्गीय परिवारमें पले-बढ़े व्यक्ति के रूप
में...
00:56:35.200 Since childhood, I was told thatback then the options for me were
doctor,
00:56:40.600 engineer or chartered accountant. Now, we can add an option of start-
up.
00:56:47.360 But for all of us,
00:56:50.360 ...राजनीति एक गंदा क्षेत्र है...
00:56:52.760 it has been so ingrained in our psychethat it is difficult to change.
00:56:59.200 And if I could add another truthregarding this...
00:57:04.680 if there's a thing that I want to changeafter becoming a politician,
00:57:11.000 I don't even know what is that thing.
00:57:14.480 So, what would you say to people like us?
00:57:16.680 I look at it differently.
00:57:20.400 Your analysis is incomplete.
00:57:27.200 It's incomplete because...
00:57:30.360 if what you were sayinghad been the actual reality,
00:57:33.560 then you would not be here today.
00:57:37.680 Every minute of yourswould've been involved with wealth.
00:57:44.880 Leaving all that behind, you are rackingyour brain here in the winters
of Delhi.
00:57:51.760 That means you are connectedwith democracy and politics.
00:58:00.200 Politics doesn't mean elections.
00:58:03.280 Politics doesn't mean victory or defeat.
00:58:06.320 Politics doesn't mean power.
00:58:09.320 That's only one aspect of it.
00:58:13.120 How many elected public representativesare there in the country?
00:58:16.800 Suppose there are 10,000 MLAs,or one or two thousand--
00:58:23.600 Everyone doesn't win,but they have a place in politics.
00:58:28.720 Secondly, if you are involvedin policy-making,
00:58:36.600 then you can bring a big change.
00:58:39.680 You may bring some changesby doing good things in your company.
00:58:45.680 But if you are a policy-maker,involved in politics,
00:58:51.640 then you can bring that changefor the entire country.
00:58:55.720 So, the biggest advantagein the governance system
00:59:01.160 is that you can make policies.
00:59:05.520 You can change statusby executing policies.
00:59:11.040 And if you are in the right direction,
00:59:16.680 and working with full honesty, then you will see the result.
00:59:21.840 Now, for example,
00:59:24.160 every government in our countryhas been working for the tribals.
00:59:32.200 But our President, Draupadi Murmu-ji,
00:59:37.280 she comes fromthe same section of the society.
00:59:41.000 So, whenever I met her,
00:59:44.520 she used to become very emotional.
00:59:49.120 Even in the tribal society,
00:59:52.520 no one has been able to reachthe most backward people.
00:59:57.200 And there are many small groups, scattered everywhere.
01:00:01.600 She told me numerous timesthat something has to be done.
01:00:03.920 I asked her to guide me.
01:00:07.080 So, under her guidance, I made a scheme,
01:00:11.120 PM Janman Yojana.
01:00:15.680 There are, at the most, 25 lakh people,
01:00:20.920 that too, in 250 places.
01:00:24.000 This does not benefit the politicians,
01:00:26.080 because they won't get votes. So there is nothing to win or lose.
01:00:29.880 But surely, it's very importantfor their life.
01:00:33.680 Draupadi-ji knew that society, she requested me and I complied.
01:00:38.440 And now, when I hear,
01:00:40.640 things have really started happening,
01:00:45.040 then I feel a great sense of satisfaction
01:00:48.680 about how a position can be made useful.
01:00:52.240 I got the chance to be of some serviceto them, whom everyone else had
forgotten.
01:00:57.480 So, in politics--
01:01:01.600 If you can make good decisionsat the right time,
01:01:05.920 this is an example of how you can bringabout a great change.
01:01:11.920 And, sir, I am not a journalistnor am I a political expert.
01:01:15.640 If I talk about policies,
01:01:18.200 ...तो मैं बेवकूफ़ लगूंगा...
01:01:20.520 There are probably manymore-experienced people for this.
01:01:25.640 ...लेकिन अगर मैं असफलता की ओर देखूं...
01:01:29.200 what else can you telland what did you learn from failures?
01:01:33.480 It could be in childhood,at the time of CM or ten years back.
01:01:39.160 Well, I have faced many setbacks.
01:01:42.600 For example, when I was young...
01:01:49.880 Perhaps, I was studying in primary school.I don't remember exactly.
01:01:55.320 I think some military schoolhad started in our state.
01:02:00.840 I had a habit of reading newspapers.So reading a newspaper means,
01:02:04.240 I would read the advertisements, too.If I had to read, I'd read it
completely.
01:02:09.080 There was a library in my village,so I used to go to the library.
01:02:12.560 I read about the military school.
01:02:16.320 So, at that time,I took a money order of one rupee
01:02:22.680 and I ordered the details.
01:02:25.560 A big parcel came, which was in English,
01:02:27.400 I didn't know anything.
01:02:30.720 In my village, there was a person,Rasbihari Maniyar.
01:02:33.920 He was a high school principal.
01:02:36.920 But he lived about 300-400 metresaway from my house.
01:02:42.840 We always used to pass by his house.
01:02:45.960 We were kids and he seemed much older.
01:02:49.040 One day. I went to his house.
01:02:52.320 I said, "I don't understand this,can you explain it to me?"
01:02:56.240 He was very kind.
01:02:59.400 He said, "Don't worry, son,I will take care of you."
01:03:03.320 So, he read everything and said,"This is a military school.
01:03:09.280 "There will be an interview, exam..."et cetera.
01:03:15.320 Later, I told my father.
01:03:18.760 My father said, "We don't have money. You can't go anywhere.
01:03:23.080 stay in the village."
01:03:25.920 Now, in my mind, a military schoolwas a huge deal, related to country!
01:03:32.680 But I couldn't go there.
01:03:34.640 I think that was the first setbackin my mind.
01:03:39.040 That I couldn't even do this.I wanted to see everything in life.
01:03:45.840 I remember I had a desireto live a monk's life.
01:03:52.840 I couldn't do that.
01:03:56.200 My very first attempt was to jointhe Ramakrishna Mission.
01:04:03.440 Swami Atmasthananda-ji,
01:04:06.040 had a lifespan of 100 years.
01:04:09.440 He passed away recently.
01:04:11.480 Swami Atmasthananda-jihad a lot of things to tell me,
01:04:15.440 because I stayed with him for a while.
01:04:17.880 But as Ramakrishna Missionhad some rules,
01:04:21.200 I felt I was not qualified for those.
01:04:24.160 I was not fit for that,so I was not allowed there.
01:04:28.880 But I was not disappointed.
01:04:31.200 My dream was not fulfilled.
01:04:34.400 I was not disappointed.This was my life's setback.
01:04:38.360 Then I just wandered aroundin search of swamis and monks.
01:04:44.880 I can't say thatI was very successful there, too.
01:04:49.680 Then I came back.
01:04:53.280 Maybe this was destined for me
01:04:56.800 and destiny brought me here.
01:05:00.040 So, one is bound to havesetbacks in life.
01:05:03.760 Today, have these setbacks playedan important role in your
personality?
01:05:10.600 The way your personality is seen today.
01:05:12.360 -And what did you learn from that?-I'll tell you.
01:05:17.920 When I used to work with RSS,
01:05:22.880 they took an old Jeep.
01:05:29.480 I knew driving, I had just learnt.
01:05:35.560 I was travelling with one of the officersin the tribal belt.
01:05:45.880 We were coming back from Ukai Dam.
01:05:51.760 There was a slope,
01:05:57.160 I put off the engine to save on petrol,
01:06:00.440 thinking the vehiclewill continue to move.
01:06:05.480 I didn't know the problemI was getting into.
01:06:10.520 The vehicle was uncontrollable,I couldn't apply brakes.
01:06:16.160 It was going fast, no control at all.
01:06:23.480 No one came to know about it.We were safe though.
01:06:30.400 But I learnt my lesson.
01:06:35.120 So we learn from our mistakes.
01:06:39.760 I absolutely believe that...
01:06:44.360 to a large extent,it is the life experiences
01:06:50.880 that shape our lives.
01:06:55.480 And I have been very fortunate that
01:07:01.120 I have never spent my lifein a comfort zone.
01:07:07.880 I have always been out of my comfort zone.
01:07:10.760 And when I was out of the comfort zone,I knew what to do and how to
live.
01:07:17.120 Is there any specific reason--
01:07:20.880 ...ऐसी क्या वजह है...
01:07:22.000 that even today, you don't wantto live in the comfort zone?
01:07:27.240 I feel like I'm unfit for comfort.
01:07:35.400 But have you ever wonderedwhy you feel unfit for comfort?
01:07:41.320 Given the life I've lived, this is a very big thing for me.
01:07:49.800 I find joy even in the smallest of things,
01:07:53.600 because of the way my mindhas been conditioned during childhood,
01:08:01.520 By and large, it makes me feelthat I am satisfied.
01:08:07.520 Do you feel that maybe
01:08:10.000 ...सुविधाएं आपके अंतिम लक्ष्य को प्राप्तकरने के रास्ते में बाधा पैदा
करते हैं...
01:08:14.720 Largely, I agreethat most people fail in life
01:08:21.160 because they get usedto their comfort zone.
01:08:28.040 Even a big entrepreneur,
01:08:34.439 if he doesn't take risks anddoesn't come out of his comfort zone...
01:08:38.720 His comfort zone levels may be different.
01:08:42.840 ...then he will end up failingin his time.
01:08:46.640 He will have to come out.
01:08:48.520 And anyone who wantsto progress in any area of life,
01:08:54.080 he should not get addictedto the comfort zone.
01:08:57.880 His mental ability to take riskswill always be his driving force.
01:09:06.680 And same thing worksin entrepreneurship, too.
01:09:09.240 Anyone who takes bigger risk...
01:09:11.399 ...वो बेहतर करता है।
01:09:12.680 सर, क्या आपके जीवन में जोखिमउठाने की क्षमता...
01:09:18.319 ...is increasing with time?
01:09:22.399 I feel that my risk-taking capacityhas not been fully utilised yet.
01:09:29.880 It has hardly been utilised.
01:09:32.880 My risk-taking capacity perhapshas increased multi-fold,
01:09:37.840 and there's a reason for that.It is just that I don't care at all.
01:09:43.800 I have never thought about myself.
01:09:47.120 And one who doesn't think for himself,
01:09:49.520 he has unlimited risk-taking capacity.
01:09:54.720 Such is my case.
01:09:57.360 If today--
01:09:58.520 "If I don't hold this position today,
01:09:59.760 or won't have it tomorrow, then what will happen to me?"
01:10:02.040 Such things don't bother me at all.
01:10:06.360 If today, you don't have to thinkabout anything,
01:10:11.880 ...कोई परेशानी नहीं,किसी चीज़ का भय नहीं...
01:10:14.680 And have to take such a decision, that you generally don't take today,
01:10:18.400 ...क्योंकि आकार,निर्माण, तथा सरकार, इन सब के कारण...
01:10:22.080 ...what would that one thing be?
01:10:25.000 That maybe my other modes are over. It's like...
01:10:29.720 ...एक ज़िंदगी, एक दृष्टि...
01:10:33.720 Maybe that's why I--
01:10:36.520 There was one thingthat I used to do earlier,
01:10:39.960 which I still feel like doing sometimes.
01:10:44.520 I used to have a programme.
01:10:50.360 And I gave it a name,"I go to meet myself."
01:10:55.680 I go to meet myself.
01:10:58.920 What I mean is, sometimeswe don't have time for ourselves.
01:11:01.800 We meet the world, but we don'thave time for ourselves.
01:11:06.520 So what I did was--
01:11:10.200 In a year, for 3-4 days,I used to keep time for myself,
01:11:16.400 I used to take a fewnecessary things and set out.
01:11:22.160 I would go to a place whereyou couldn't find another human being.
01:11:28.960 I used to look for a placewhere I could get water.
01:11:32.400 Look for a place, somewhere in the jungle.
01:11:37.200 In those days, there were no mobile phones.
01:11:41.280 No question of newspapers either.
01:11:45.640 That was a different kind of joy in life.
01:11:51.200 I miss that sometimes.
01:11:54.320 And during that time, did you learn anything about yourself?
01:11:58.080 When you were alone, all by yourself?
01:12:02.280 According to philosophy,a lot of people say...
01:12:04.360 ...कि जीवन का सबसेमहत्वपूर्ण, मज़ेदार प्रश्न ये है कि
01:12:08.400 मैं जैसा हूं, वैसा क्यों हूं?
01:12:11.440 Did you learn about yourself in that time,as to why you are this way?
01:12:17.520 I just wanted to get lost in myself.
01:12:20.120 Let me give you an exampleof what happened.
01:12:24.360 It was perhaps in the period of '80s.
01:12:29.000 I decided to live in the desert.
01:12:33.320 So I started on my journey.
01:12:34.760 I kept wandering in the desert.
01:12:41.240 I could see a lightbut I could never reach it.
01:12:45.240 I came across a man with a camel.
01:12:50.680 He asked me what I was doing there.
01:12:54.760 I said, "I want to go furtherinto the desert."
01:12:59.520 He told me to accompany him.
01:13:04.400 The light we could see ahead, was the last village.
01:13:11.520 "I'll leave you there.
01:13:14.600 Stay there for the night and goin the morning."
01:13:20.400 He took me to the place
01:13:23.720 of a Muslim gentleman named Gulbaig.
01:13:31.720 It was a small village called Dhordo.
01:13:35.680 It is India's last villagealong the Pakistan border.
01:13:40.680 It had about 20 to 25 houses.
01:13:46.640 Indians treat their guests like gods,so they welcomed me.
01:13:51.880 I told him I wanted to go.
01:13:53.520 He said, "You cannot gointo the desert right now.
01:13:56.640 Do you realise the temperaturethere will be sub-zero?
01:14:00.760 How will you stay there?
01:14:02.400 Stay here for the night, and we will show you in the morning."
01:14:04.720 Anyway, I stayed with them for the night.
01:14:06.560 They fed me.
01:14:09.160 I said I want to stay alone.
01:14:10.800 I don't need anyone.
01:14:13.280 He said, "You cannot stay alone.
01:14:15.360 There is a small hut here. You can stay there.
01:14:21.640 You can go to Rann during the dayand come back at night."
01:14:27.040 I went thereand Rann was completely white.
01:14:30.720 It was beyond my imagination.
01:14:33.400 That one sight had such an impact on me.
01:14:37.880 The things I had experiencedin my Himalayan life,
01:14:43.240 spending my life amidstthe snow-clad mountains,
01:14:47.360 I was experiencing the same sight here.
01:14:51.080 And I was filled with a spiritual feeling.
01:14:53.880 But that sight stayed in my mind.
01:14:56.960 When I became the Chief Minister,
01:14:59.520 I started a huge event therecalled Rann Utsav.
01:15:04.680 And today, it has becomea big tourist destination.
01:15:09.400 Today, it has globally earned the titleof "Best Tourism Village."
01:15:18.200 If you've to think that there isan event in your life tomorrow
01:15:24.760 that would make you very happy, who would you call first?
01:15:33.200 I went to Lal Chowk in Srinagar
01:15:39.360 to hoist the tricolour flag.
01:15:43.920 Earlier in Punjab, near Phagwara, our journey was attacked.
01:15:51.880 Shots were fired.
01:15:55.200 Five or six were killed, and several injured.
01:16:01.080 So there was tension all over the country,
01:16:04.360 what would happen aswe were going to Srinagar's Lal Chowk.
01:16:06.680 At that time, it was challengingto hoist the flag at Lal Chowk
01:16:10.560 as the flag was often burned there.
01:16:15.640 After hoisting the tricolour flag,
01:16:21.920 we came to Jammu.
01:16:24.360 So, my first call from Jammuwas to my mother.
01:16:29.160 For me, it was a moment of joy,
01:16:31.680 and I also thought thatmy mother must be worried
01:16:35.560 that why I have gone to such a placewhere there is a lot of gunfire.
01:16:38.880 I remember thatmy first call was to my mother.
01:16:43.240 Today, I understandthe significance of that call.
01:16:47.680 I haven't felt that way since.
01:16:53.200 अपने माता-पिता को खोना,
01:16:54.760 जैसे आपने कुछ समय पहले अपनी मां को खोया,
01:16:59.160 मैंने भी अपने पिता कोकुछ समय पहले खोया है...
01:17:00.640 You even wrote me a letter.
01:17:01.920 बहुत धन्यवाद। आप बहुत दयालू हैं।
01:17:05.920 What is the first thingthat comes to your mind?
01:17:09.800 If I give my example,
01:17:11.760 ...तो जब मैंने अपने पिता को खोया,मेरे मन में पहला विचार अपराध बोध का
था...
01:17:16.600 Why didn't I do this?Why didn't I spend more time with him?
01:17:22.640 ...मैंने शायद काम या अन्य चीज़ों कोउनसे ऊपर क्यों चुना?
01:17:28.040 When this event happened in your life, what did you think?
01:17:32.040 You see, my life was differentas I had left home in my childhood.
01:17:39.080 So, the family had also acceptedthat I didn't belong there.
01:17:43.880 I too acceptedthat I wasn't for the family.
01:17:47.600 So, my life was like that.
01:17:50.480 Therefore, there was no attachmentbetween any of us.
01:17:56.480 But... for our mother's
01:18:03.880 100th birthday,
01:18:07.560 I went to touch her feet.
01:18:17.280 Now, at the age of 100--my mother was not educated.
01:18:21.520 She didn't have any formal education.
01:18:25.040 I mean she was illiterate.
01:18:29.720 So as I was leaving, I said,
01:18:33.800 "Mother, I have to go for my work.
01:18:40.520 Anything for me?"
01:18:43.280 I was surprised,my mother said two sentences.
01:18:48.280 For someone who has never been to school,
01:18:56.520 she said,
01:18:59.840 "Work with intelligence, live with purity."
01:19:06.240 Now, hearing her talk like this,
01:19:10.840 in a way, it was my treasure.
01:19:15.520 She spoke this in Gujarati.
01:19:17.280 But it meant, "Work with intelligence, live with purity."
01:19:23.480 So, it made me think, God has providedeverything to my mother.
01:19:29.520 What special qualities would she have?
01:19:31.600 Sometimes I feel thatif I had stayed with her,
01:19:35.400 I would have learnt many things from her.
01:19:39.760 I miss her. My interaction with herwas very limited,
01:19:43.960 as I used to visit her onceor twice a year.
01:19:48.640 My mother was never sick.
01:19:50.600 Even when I visited, she would ask me,
01:19:55.240 that, "You must have work to do,so go quickly."
01:20:02.760 This was her nature.
01:20:06.600 So, sir, coming backto the topic of politics again.
01:20:10.000 Earlier, you mentionedthat politics is not dirty.
01:20:15.960 History has shown thatpoliticians might make politics dirty.
01:20:19.640 ...ये अब भी आदर्शवादी लोगों के लिए सही है,अगर वे ईकोसिस्टम को बदलना
चाहते हैं...
01:20:27.040 Second question, money in politics.
01:20:31.040 ...अगर हम देश के युवकों को राजनीतिमें आने को कहें...
01:20:36.520 the second problem that comes to theirmind is that it requires a lot
of money,
01:20:40.320 and they don't have it.
01:20:42.640 Would you like to say somethingabout this?
01:20:44.640 In my life, the start-up industrywhere I work,
01:20:49.600 when we get an idea,we take money from friends and family.
01:20:54.320 We call this the "seed round."
01:20:56.880 How does this happen in politics?
01:20:59.720 I remember an incident from my childhood.
01:21:04.520 In my village, there was a doctor,Vasant Bhai Parikh.
01:21:10.760 He was a good ophthalmologist.
01:21:14.240 He was also very service-mindedas well as a good orator.
01:21:18.080 He spoke good Hindiand also spoke Gujarati well.
01:21:23.240 He once decided to contestelection independently.
01:21:28.240 And all of us, the children's army
01:21:32.160 used to carry flags around.
01:21:36.840 I remember this vaguely.
01:21:39.840 He collected one rupee from each personto contest the election.
01:21:44.760 And then, he gavean account in a public meeting,
01:21:48.920 how much money was received.
01:21:51.600 And perhaps, he spent250 rupees for this election.
01:21:56.480 He won by a low margin of votes, but he won.
01:22:00.640 It's not thatsociety doesn't know the truth.
01:22:07.080 You have to have patience and dedication.
01:22:12.360 Secondly, you shouldn't feelthis is like a contract.
01:22:16.400 That, "I'm working for you,so I should get votes."
01:22:19.920 Then you won't succeed in this life.
01:22:23.240 That's why I said that politics
01:22:25.480 should not be confinedto only elections for MPs and MLAs.
01:22:33.280 If we start engaging in any workconnected with social life,
01:22:38.800 it inevitably creates political influence.
01:22:44.240 Even if someone runs a small ashramor works for girls' education,
01:22:52.120 he may not contest elections on his own.
01:22:54.440 But his efforts would havea political impact.
01:23:00.440 Therefore, politics needs to be viewedon a very large canvas.
01:23:07.240 And sometimes I say,
01:23:09.360 in a democracy,even the voter, in a way, is a politician.
01:23:17.760 When he casts his vote,
01:23:19.120 he uses his judgement to determinewho should or shouldn't get his
vote.
01:23:22.680 The person whom he doesn't vote,he surely has some sentiment for him.
01:23:26.360 And whom he votes,he has another kind of sentiment for him.
01:23:29.560 That's why in a democracy--
01:23:32.320 In my case, I feel that...
01:23:36.760 even though I am in politics,
01:23:43.080 I am not a so-called politician.
01:23:49.600 It is only during the elections
01:23:52.800 that I have to give political speeches.
01:23:56.360 This is my compulsion.
01:23:59.000 I don't like it, but I have to do it.
01:24:03.640 I am compelled to do it.
01:24:06.240 All my time is spent on governance, not on elections.
01:24:13.640 And when I was not in power,
01:24:15.480 my entire time was devotedto the organisation,
01:24:18.640 on human resource development.
01:24:20.600 I was constantly engaged in enrichingthe lives of my workers.
01:24:26.960 How to make it more competitive?
01:24:30.640 How to write a press note?
01:24:33.600 How to conduct mass mobilisation?
01:24:35.680 I was involved in every single aspect.
01:24:38.960 I didn't get caught up in appearancesor superficial matters.
01:24:43.480 And you must have seen thiswhen I was in Gujarat.
01:24:47.360 The day this issue came before me,I had just become the new Chief
Minister.
01:24:52.800 The task before me was to addressthe earthquake issue.
01:24:57.560 So, I went to the earthquakeaffected areas.
01:25:02.520 I called a meeting with the officers.
01:25:06.280 By then, it was nine monthssince the earthquake.
01:25:11.480 I went there in October.
01:25:14.360 They said,"Sir, it will be done by March."
01:25:18.280 I said, "This March timelinethat you have in your mind
01:25:21.520 because of the government budgetand financial year,
01:25:27.320 don't be constrained by that."
01:25:29.360 I asked them what they could dobefore January 26th.
01:25:32.080 Because the country would want to seewhat had been done in the whole
year?
01:25:37.720 So, our target was set.I wanted the target of December end.
01:25:41.080 Then I told the officers,there are 43 districts.
01:25:46.920 I said, "Each officerwould be in charge of one district,
01:25:51.680 and you can consider yourselfto be the chief minister of that block.
01:25:56.240 You have to show me the result.
01:25:59.920 You have to go on Friday, and on Monday, I want your report."
01:26:03.360 Everyone went and got back.
01:26:04.840 In the first meeting, they said,"Sir, this is not possible."
01:26:08.360 I asked, "Why?"
01:26:10.000 They said, "The rule is such--"I asked, "Who made the rule?"
01:26:14.160 They replied they did it.
01:26:16.600 I said, "You realised thatsince you went there.
01:26:20.360 Do you understandthe common man's troubles?"
01:26:22.760 I told them to change the rules, and they changed all of them.
01:26:26.320 Work progressed rapidly.
01:26:27.840 And when the media from across thecountry and the world visited in
January,
01:26:32.520 they were impressed.I wasn't playing politics there.
01:26:37.640 I was motivating everyonewith the team spirit towards a result.
01:26:44.240 I was inexperienced and new.I had no idea how to run a government.
01:26:49.800 When I came to Delhi,I called my secretaries one day.
01:26:55.120 I said, "I have a wish. Will you do it?"
01:26:58.320 They said, "Tell us."
01:27:00.760 I said, "Take a two- or three-day leaveand go out with your families."
01:27:08.840 They wondered, why the Prime Ministerwas discussing holidays.
01:27:12.440 I said,"But you have to work during the leave.
01:27:15.400 When you became an IAS officer.
01:27:18.840 Go to the village, where you did your first job.
01:27:26.120 Stay there for two nights.
01:27:28.400 Show your officeto your wife and children, where you sat.
01:27:34.760 That there was no fan.
01:27:37.080 Show them the Ambassador carwhich four people used to share.
01:27:40.080 Show all this, then we will talk further."
01:27:44.760 They went and came back.
01:27:47.840 I asked them if they went and mettheir acquaintances? They said yes.
01:27:53.200 I said,"I have a serious question for you."
01:27:58.040 "The place where you started your job25 or 30 years ago.
01:28:05.520 You have ultimately reached herefrom that place.
01:28:09.120 Is the village the same as it was25 years ago, or has it changed?"
01:28:15.120 They all felt hurt. They realised it was still the same.
01:28:20.600 I asked them who is responsible for that?
01:28:24.160 I didn't accuse them.
01:28:27.440 I motivated them, made them aware of the reality.
01:28:31.920 I took them back 25 years.
01:28:36.880 So, my way of working is such that I neverhave to use harsh words or
scold anyone.
01:28:44.720 I get work done through these methods.
01:28:50.360 If you talk about the organisation,
01:28:53.560 then in entrepreneurship, start-ups,and in businesses,
01:28:57.640 when the cycle is going well, people hire a lot of employees.
01:29:03.560 Then the market slows downor the cycle changes
01:29:06.760 and they have to fire many people.
01:29:10.880 You have always said,
01:29:14.160 "Minimum government, maximum governance."
01:29:19.600 Has our government
01:29:21.240 ...क्या आप इसे कुछ हद तक हासिल कर पाए हैं?
01:29:24.760 How is it going?
01:29:26.800 It will be clear to you.
01:29:30.120 The concept of minimum government, maximum governance,
01:29:36.480 was misunderstoodas some people derived their own meanings.
01:29:40.000 Some people thought that, fewer ministers meant minimum government.
01:29:46.480 Some people felt that the number ofemployees depends on minimum
government.
01:29:53.720 That was never my vision.
01:29:56.960 In fact, I made effort
01:30:00.080 to create separate ministries for skills, cooperatives, and fisheries,
01:30:08.200 for all the focused areas in the country.
01:30:12.040 When I say, minimum government,maximum governance,
01:30:16.120 it is due to the processesthat are very lengthy.
01:30:19.840 If you need one clearance,it takes six months.
01:30:23.920 If there's a court case,
01:30:27.960 it can drag on for a hundred years.
01:30:32.040 So what we did was to take outabout 40,000 compliances.
01:30:38.880 Otherwise, this department will askfor one thing from you.
01:30:42.600 The next one will askfor the same thing from you,
01:30:46.200 The third one will also askfor the same thing.
01:30:48.600 If one person has already asked, why not use it?
01:30:52.880 40,000 compliances! It is too muchof a burden for the common man.
01:30:59.440 I have abolished around 1,500 laws.
01:31:05.000 I have changed lawsthat criminalise certain things.
01:31:10.840 So, my vision of minimum government, maximum governance is this.
01:31:16.160 And today, I see the changesthat are happening.
01:31:21.240 Sir, India Stack... For example,we are direct beneficiaries of
01:31:28.480 UPI, eKYC, Aadhaar.
01:31:32.560 Did you ever think when theseconcepts were conceived,
01:31:35.480 ...कि ये जिस तरह से आज सफल हुए हैं,वैसे वो होंगे?
01:31:38.680 Today, in just thirty seconds
01:31:42.600 I can directly transfer moneyinto the accounts of 100 million farmers.
01:31:47.960 Today, I can send subsidy to 130 million
01:31:53.360 cylinder consumerswith just one click in 30 seconds.
01:31:57.600 Why did Jan Dhan accountcome into existence?
01:32:00.920 Because billions that were being siphonedout due to corruption are now
saved.
01:32:08.400 And technology was used efficiently. Now look at UPI.
01:32:14.040 It is a marvel for the whole world.
01:32:15.480 When guests from around the world come, they ask how UPI works.
01:32:18.840 I tell them to visit any vendor.
01:32:23.680 How technology is democratisedin the world of fintech,
01:32:30.760 India has presentedthis example to the world.
01:32:34.080 Today, the youth is able to do wondersby possessing a mobile phone.
01:32:42.800 And the youth will remember, that there was once a government
01:32:48.440 that made the whole worldfit into my pocket, in my mobile phone.
01:32:52.320 ...ये एक टेक्नोलोजी-संचालित सदि है।
01:32:55.120 The country has made a commissionfor separate innovation.
01:33:01.320 I have created a separatefund for innovation.
01:33:05.320 The youth should take risks.
01:33:07.480 They should feel that even if he fails,he will not die hungry.
01:33:11.440 Someone will take care of him.
01:33:14.280 Once I had gone to Taiwan.
01:33:20.560 My nature is like that of a student.
01:33:23.160 I have this quality in me,
01:33:25.400 so I can saythe student in me is still alive.
01:33:30.160 So I met all the leaders there.
01:33:34.600 And I was so happy.
01:33:37.240 All their leaders,
01:33:40.360 if it was their transport minister,
01:33:43.040 then he had a PhD in transportfrom the world's best university.
01:33:48.960 So, the departmentto which a minister belonged,
01:33:53.200 he also had a PhD in that subjectfrom the top-most university.
01:33:58.200 This had a great impact on my mind.
01:34:02.040 So, I want the youth of my countryto take us to that level.
01:34:07.520 When I was in Taiwan,I had an interpreter.
01:34:11.960 He was a qualifiedengineer and well-educated.
01:34:19.280 Their government had appointed himas an interpreter for me.
01:34:24.840 It was a ten-day tour of Taiwan.
01:34:27.640 I was a guest of their government.
01:34:30.600 This was beforeI became the Chief Minister.
01:34:35.960 In the last few days, he asked me,
01:34:39.880 "Sir, if you don't mind,I want to ask you something."
01:34:43.400 I said, "We have been togetherall these days, please ask me."
01:34:48.360 He said, "No, no, you may feel bad."
01:34:52.240 He kept avoiding, and I said,"Please don't hesitate."
01:34:57.440 So he asked me,
01:35:00.440 "Sir, is black magicstill prevalent in India?
01:35:05.800 Are there still snakesand snake charmers in India?"
01:35:11.440 That man had thisimage of India in his mind.
01:35:16.000 I had been with him for so many days,
01:35:17.760 I used to talk about technology, yet he had this image in his mind.
01:35:21.320 I took it as a joke.
01:35:23.280 I said, "Look, our ancestorsused to play with snakes.
01:35:30.160 We can't play with them.
01:35:31.920 So we play with a mouse.
01:35:34.600 Every child in my countryplays with a mouse."
01:35:37.800 I told him that my country's strength liesin that mouse.
01:35:41.760 The India of snakes was different.
01:35:46.080 There is one thingthat everyone believes in,
01:35:49.640 that India's perception--this is also common in entrepreneurship--
01:35:54.520 that marketing is a very big partof building a company.
01:36:00.160 You have greatly changedIndia's perception outside of India.
01:36:05.440 Can you give some tipsthat an entrepreneur can learn?
01:36:09.480 Firstly, claiming that I have broughtabout this change, is not right.
01:36:16.480 I believe that whoever goesto other countries of the world,
01:36:20.960 the one who is sent by the governmentis an ambassador.
01:36:26.360 When they go, they arenational ambassadors.
01:36:29.960 If we take them on board, thenour strength will increase manifold.
01:36:36.320 You must have seen that in NITI Aayog,
01:36:39.600 one of the initial objectives is
01:36:45.320 to combine the strengthsof the global Indian community.
01:36:51.960 It is written.
01:36:54.480 So, I strongly believe that we shouldcombine the strengths of the
world.
01:37:01.240 Secondly, even before I becamethe Chief Minister,
01:37:05.560 I had travelled abroad.
01:37:09.360 At that time, I usedto stay among the people
01:37:12.320 of the organisation,I used to be with them.
01:37:13.920 So, I was familiar with their strengthsand I had contacts too.
01:37:19.920 There was a time,
01:37:21.240 when I travelled upon Atal-ji's requestand had a successful trip.
01:37:27.800 This strength was not utilised earlier.
01:37:33.160 I started channelising it.
01:37:36.840 Even the politicians of the worldstarted to feel
01:37:39.120 that this is a big force, a big strength.
01:37:43.960 Secondly, they saw minimum crimeamong the Indians.
01:37:50.440 If they are well-educated,then they are mostly Indians.
01:37:53.560 If they follow the law, then they are Indians.
01:37:56.720 So, a sentiment of honour started rising.
01:38:00.080 Due to the cumulative effect of all this,
01:38:03.120 we see an increasein the country's profile.
01:38:07.280 And I am not just saying this, sir.
01:38:09.160 During my childhood, when I wasgrowing up in Bangalore, age 14, 15,
16,
01:38:15.600 about 20-25 years ago.At that time, it seemed that,
01:38:20.400 that one person who went to college, went to America,
01:38:24.400 did a PhD, and is working at Microsoftor some similar company,
01:38:29.120 ...यही मुख्य बात थी...
01:38:31.200 There was nothing beyond that for us.
01:38:33.960 But I can say that, today,when I meet 18-year-old boys,
01:38:39.920 they are not like that anymore. They are talking about building in
India.
01:38:46.120 Very few are talking about going abroadfor college compared to earlier
times.
01:38:50.360 ...तो ये एक बड़ा परिवर्तन है...
01:38:51.920 And I have seen this.
01:38:54.560 And sir, if you--
01:38:57.080 ...अगर आप आन्ट्रप्रनर्शिपकी तुलना में राजनीति का उदाहरण लें,
01:39:03.160 तो मेरी दुनिया में मुकाबला करनाएक अच्छी बात है...
01:39:06.840 Is competition a goodthing in your world as well?
01:39:09.840 I would like to tell youa few different things.
01:39:12.840 I used to say this publicly...
01:39:16.560 that you will regretif you don't come back to India.
01:39:22.800 If possible, at least start the processas soon as possible.
01:39:25.520 The era is about to change. This is what I used to say.
01:39:29.800 And I remember when you asked mea question earlier about setback.
01:39:37.320 I was the Chief Ministerof a democratic, elected government.
01:39:42.680 And, the American governmentrefused to give me a visa.
01:39:49.160 As a person, going to Americawas not a big deal for me.
01:39:52.720 I had been to America earlier.
01:39:56.640 But for an elected government,
01:39:58.800 a state and a country was insulted,it saddened me.
01:40:02.080 It bothered me, and I wonderedwhat was happening?
01:40:07.320 Just because some peoplehave created false hype,
01:40:11.320 is this how the world works?
01:40:14.080 I had this thought in my mind.
01:40:17.160 But that day, I held a press conference.
01:40:21.040 I told them that the American governmenthad refused to give me a visa.
01:40:27.440 I said what I had to say,but there was one thing I said.
01:40:31.520 I was asked a question and I said,
01:40:34.480 "Look, I see a new India,
01:40:38.920 where the world wouldstand in line for a visa."
01:40:43.640 This is my statement from 2005.
01:40:46.600 And today, we are stepping into 2025.
01:40:50.160 I am saying this again.
01:40:54.640 So, I can see...
01:40:58.800 that it is India's time now.
01:41:02.720 My youth, the common man of my country--
01:41:06.080 I just went to Kuwait.I went to a labour colony there.
01:41:11.720 I was meetingall the labour families there.
01:41:14.680 These are the labourerswho went there 15-16 years ago.
01:41:18.760 Now, they must be cominghome for a wedding.
01:41:22.360 They don't have any connectionwith the country other than that.
01:41:25.520 A labourer, who was from an interior area,
01:41:32.240 he asked, "When will we havean international airport?"
01:41:35.040 A labourer in Kuwait,
01:41:38.920 a person, who left India 15 years ago,
01:41:43.240 dreams of havingan international airport in his district.
01:41:47.560 This aspiration will developmy country completely by 2047.
01:41:53.240 Today, this aspiration existsin the youth of India.
01:41:56.600 It feels like the whole worldis moving towards war.
01:42:02.400 Like Ukraine and Russia, for example.
01:42:05.040 When Indian nationalsare present in such countries,
01:42:10.080 and as the Prime Minister of India,
01:42:14.840 you are responsible for them in a way.Can you tell us something about
it?
01:42:19.320 ...क्या आप कुछ विस्तार से कह सकते हैं?
01:42:20.720 What happens in these situations? What is happening?
01:42:23.920 ...क्या हमें चिंता करनी चाहिएकि दुनिया में क्या हो रहा है?
01:42:27.480 The world has faith in us.
01:42:31.080 The reason is that we are not two-faced.
01:42:35.400 We don't mince our words.
01:42:38.400 For example, during this crisis, we haverepeatedly said that we are
not neutral.
01:42:45.800 I say repeatedly, we are not neutral.
01:42:50.040 Those who say we are neutral, I am not.
01:42:54.000 I am on the side of peace.
01:42:56.400 I favour peace.
01:42:58.800 And I will support whateverefforts are made towards peace.
01:43:03.080 I say this to Russia.
01:43:05.000 I say this to Ukraine.
01:43:07.040 I say this to Iran.
01:43:09.240 I say this to Palestine.
01:43:10.720 I say this to Israel, too.
01:43:12.440 And they have faith in what I say, that what I am speaking is the
truth.
01:43:19.960 And this has improved India's credibility.
01:43:24.200 So, just as the countrymen have faith, that if there is a crisis,
01:43:28.360 my country will definitelytake care of me.
01:43:31.880 Similarly, the world has faithand believes in what India says.
01:43:39.440 During the outbreak of Corona,
01:43:43.400 some of our youth
01:43:47.560 were present right therewhere it all began.
01:43:54.080 Now they had to be brought back.
01:43:55.880 I told our Air Force officialsthat this is a difficult task.
01:43:59.880 Only those who come forward voluntarilywill be given the task.
01:44:05.880 The entire armed forces stepped forward.
01:44:09.240 In a way, it was a verydangerous situation,
01:44:14.600 but they brought the people back.
01:44:17.560 By the grace of God, there was no loss.
01:44:20.520 They brought the people ofPakistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh.
01:44:25.480 So the thought in my mind is,if my fellow countryman...
01:44:32.320 is in trouble, who will worry about him?
01:44:37.080 I clearly remember an incidentI had heard about.
01:44:41.280 There was an earthquake in Nepal.
01:44:45.240 I sent people from hereto Nepal after the earthquake.
01:44:49.640 Someone told me that after 3-4 days,
01:44:54.320 when the aircraft was bringing backIndians from Nepal--
01:44:59.880 The plan was that it would take essentialsto Nepal and bring back
Indians.
01:45:07.320 One gentleman stood in the aircraft.
01:45:14.200 The plane was fully occupied.
01:45:16.960 He said, "I am a doctor.
01:45:22.320 I have been criticisingthe government all my life.
01:45:28.080 I have criticised all the governments.
01:45:32.320 The government takestax, income tax, and so on.
01:45:37.760 I have spoken this wayat every given opportunity.
01:45:42.320 But today, I have understoodthe value of that tax.
01:45:48.360 Today, I am able to go back alive."
01:45:52.840 Serving our countrymen anywherein the world, brings out the good in
them.
01:46:00.680 They are also inspired to dosomething good.
01:46:02.680 And I am experiencing it.
01:46:04.960 I had been to Abu Dhabi.
01:46:08.400 In those days there was Crown Prince,
01:46:13.440 and I requested him
01:46:15.640 to give me some land for a temple.
01:46:20.600 Without a moment's delay,
01:46:24.760 I got land and permission to builda temple in an Islamic country.
01:46:32.600 Today millions of Hindusare filled with joy.
01:46:39.400 As we are talking about other countries,if I digress a little and
ask--
01:46:46.400 If you ask me, my favourite food is pizza.
01:46:51.680 And pizza is from Italy.
01:46:53.560 People on the Internet saythat you know a lot about Italy.
01:46:58.960 Would you like to say something about it?
01:47:03.520 Haven't you seen these memes?
01:47:06.200 No, that just keeps going on.I don't waste my time on that.
01:47:10.840 The thing is that...
01:47:13.680 I am not a foodie.
01:47:18.680 -Not at all?-Not at all.
01:47:21.080 Because...
01:47:23.240 whatever is served to mein the country that I go to,
01:47:27.400 I relish it.
01:47:32.200 But my bad luck is thatif you take me to a restaurant today,
01:47:38.680 and give me the menu and ask meto select, I won't be able to do it.
01:47:42.200 Sir, will you be ableto go to a restaurant?
01:47:44.880 I haven't been able to go yet.
01:47:47.080 -How many years has it been?-Many years.
01:47:49.880 Earlier, when you--
01:47:51.200 Earlier, when I was in the organisation,Mr. Arun Jaitley was very fond
of eating.
01:47:57.120 He knew what was best at which restaurantin which city across the
country.
01:48:03.080 He was like an encyclopedia.
01:48:06.280 So when we used to travel together,
01:48:08.760 one meal at a restaurantwas a certain thing.
01:48:13.200 But if someone hands me the menuto select the food, I can't do it.
01:48:18.760 Because I'm not aware of the namesof the dishes and what they really
are.
01:48:24.920 I am totally ignorant.
01:48:26.400 Because I don't have that tendency.
01:48:29.280 So I don't understand it much.
01:48:31.960 So I always told Mr. Arun Jaitley,"Please, you order."
01:48:35.720 My only preference was thatI wanted vegetarian food.
01:48:38.400 I spoke to a few of your friends.
01:48:41.240 Friends or people who have known youfor more than 10-20 years.
01:48:46.280 And I asked them to tell me thingsthat are not in the public domain.
01:48:50.560 I won't take their names,
01:48:51.760 but they sent me a photoof the Chief Minister's
01:48:56.760 swearing-in ceremony.
01:48:59.200 Some senior politiciansare sitting on chairs.
01:49:01.680 You are sitting on the floor.
01:49:04.600 When I saw that photo,
01:49:06.400 ...38 की उम्र में...
01:49:09.520 I only remember the timewhen you were the Prime Minister.
01:49:15.040 Or the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
01:49:18.120 I don't have any visual memoryof the times before that.
01:49:22.720 ...जब मैंने तस्वीर देखी,तो मैं उसे बार-बार देख रहा था...
01:49:28.120 Can you tell me about this change, from there to here?
01:49:32.480 By here I mean,no one can speak informally to you now.
01:49:37.040 Maybe one of your teachersabout whom you spoke earlier.
01:49:40.480 How does this happen?
01:49:42.160 There are two things. I'm not sayingthat you can't speak informally.
01:49:47.400 -No one speaks like that.-I don't get to hear informal talks.
01:49:51.600 It's not right to assume thatno one can't speak like that.
01:49:54.840 But I never get to hear that.
01:49:56.800 Because of the way life has become.
01:49:58.800 Secondly, the titles may have changed.
01:50:05.040 The situations may have changed.
01:50:07.800 The set-ups may have changed.
01:50:10.600 Modi is the same personwho once used to sit on the floor.
01:50:15.560 And that's why I don't care that much.
01:50:18.800 And I'm not just saying it.
01:50:21.760 This is the reality.
01:50:23.360 It makes no difference to me.No difference at all.
01:50:28.880 And, sir, if you remember, last year
01:50:31.480 I gave a speech in front of youon Vibrant Gujarat.
01:50:34.960 You were there too.
01:50:36.200 I was so bad,that I got myself a speech coach
01:50:40.040 and I've been learning for a year,attending classes and I have a
teacher.
01:50:44.560 How do you do it so well?
01:50:47.320 Can you give me some tips?
01:50:49.160 ...यह हर कोई सीखना चाहता है...
01:50:50.960 There are a couple of different things.
01:50:53.120 One is that I've been often asked that,"You are a Gujarati.
01:50:59.440 How do you speak Hindi?"
01:51:01.640 Earlier when I used to work for Sangh, people used to think that
01:51:06.040 I'm from North India,but I live in Gujarat.
01:51:10.360 The reason was that we sold teaat the railway station.
01:51:17.440 So my village "Mehsana"--"Meh" means buffalo.
01:51:22.760 "Mehsana" means buffalo.
01:51:28.080 So in my village, when the buffaloes...
01:51:32.280 would start giving milk, they would be transported to Mumbai.
01:51:38.520 And people would sell the milk in Mumbai.
01:51:41.360 When buffaloes would stop giving milk, they would be brought back to
the village.
01:51:46.000 These business people fromUttar Pradesh were our brothers.
01:51:50.480 When they came, they would wait for the goods train.
01:51:58.120 And when they'd get the train, they used to fill it with grass
01:52:02.920 to be able to accommodate four buffaloes.
01:52:07.640 So about 30-40 people were
01:52:13.320 always present at the railway platform.
01:52:16.920 As I used to sell tea, I would go to them.
01:52:21.680 I had to talk to them.
01:52:24.800 So while talking to them, I learnt Hindi.
01:52:28.880 These people who came to sell buffaloes, they were also labourers.
01:52:35.280 But in the evening, they used to sing devotional songs.
01:52:38.240 They used to order tea.
01:52:40.560 I also learnt to speak Hindi.
01:52:41.880 Is this very different, sir?
01:52:43.720 Like you grew up in Gujarat, and now you live in Delhi.
01:52:49.560 Personally, how different is livingin these two cities?
01:52:54.880 I don't live in the city.
01:52:56.720 I live in a confined space in the house.
01:53:00.280 I go from home to office, and from office to home.
01:53:05.080 We get cut off from the outside world.
01:53:08.200 The government system is suchthat it's a challenge to make
distinction.
01:53:14.360 And this is my last question, sir. I had--
01:53:17.040 But you had another question, about oratory.
01:53:22.160 हां।
01:53:24.040 According to me...Let's say there is a fight going on,
01:53:31.160 or something of interest has happened.
01:53:33.680 And there are four illiterate people, maybe a woman or an elderly
person,
01:53:39.400 and if you stand there with a mic, they will start telling you what
happened.
01:53:46.240 You'll see, they use great words, great expressions and narrate very
well.
01:53:53.160 Why?
01:53:54.760 This is self-experience.
01:53:58.440 When your feelings come from within,
01:54:02.960 delivery style of your dialoguebecomes important.
01:54:08.200 Whatever you are saying, does it have the power of experience?
01:54:15.920 Are you convinced while telling?
01:54:18.960 Do you get that feelingwhen you are talking about something sad?
01:54:24.480 -क्या आपको उस समय दुःख होता है?-हां।
01:54:26.720 You must have seen, many people take offence.
01:54:31.800 But I largely talk about the poor,
01:54:35.120 and I have to stop myself.
01:54:38.280 I become emotional.
01:54:42.760 I get a lot of criticism in the press, but I am not able to stop
myself.
01:54:49.280 When I see such situations in the society,
01:54:53.200 I recollect them and, naturally, that feeling arises in my mind.
01:54:59.920 And, sir, whatever you have learntin life, you have so much
experience.
01:55:06.920 With all this knowledge,
01:55:09.400 what is the one thing you would tellyour 20-year-old self?
01:55:15.840 When it comes to the youth,
01:55:22.120 I don't consider myself qualifiedto advise them.
01:55:31.080 And I don't have the right to giveany orders either.
01:55:37.840 But I would say, when it comesto the youth of our country,
01:55:44.400 I have immense faith in them.
01:55:49.320 A village boy is saying,"I will not work, I will do a start-up."
01:55:52.280 His three start-ups may fail--
01:55:54.240 I remember my first start-up conference,
01:55:57.640 the word "start-up"was new in our country.
01:56:01.720 But I knew its potential.
01:56:05.280 There was a girl--
01:56:07.960 I had asked those who had start-upsto share their experiences.
01:56:14.280 So a girl stood up and saidshe will share her experience.
01:56:20.280 She was a Bengali from Kolkata.
01:56:26.200 She said, "I started a start-up.
01:56:28.880 Then I went to meet my mother.
01:56:31.720 I told her I had left my job.
01:56:35.760 She asked me what I will do.
01:56:37.640 I said, 'I have started a start-up.'
01:56:40.800 'Start-up?'
01:56:42.400 'This is disastrous!'"
01:56:44.880 She presented it in a very dramatic way.
01:56:49.200 There was a time,when start-up actually meant disaster.
01:56:53.320 Today, start-ups are a matter of pride.
01:56:58.600 ...ये विश्वसनीय हो गया है...
01:57:00.720 And that is why I believe that,
01:57:05.640 even in a small village,
01:57:08.080 if someone is a failure, people will consider him as an ideal.
01:57:12.240 He is a brave guy. He is doing something.
01:57:17.280 And sir, if I ask you,
01:57:21.440 as a PM,
01:57:22.960 how was your second termdifferent from first term?
01:57:26.760 And how is your third termdifferent from the second term?
01:57:32.240 In the first term, people were trying to understand me,
01:57:38.040 and I was also trying to understand Delhi.
01:57:43.120 In the first and second terms,I used to think in context to the past.
01:57:50.480 Like, first, I was here, now I will go there.
01:57:54.120 Earlier, I used to do this much, now I will do that much.
01:57:57.920 In the third term,my thought process has changed.
01:58:02.640 My courage has become stronger.
01:58:07.440 My dreams have expanded.
01:58:10.920 My desires are increasing.
01:58:15.200 The essence of what I'm saying is thatI want 2047 to be a developed
India,
01:58:21.000 which means, this is not just some speech.
01:58:24.400 Every single thing should befree of problems.
01:58:30.000 Toilets should be built for everyone.
01:58:34.200 Electricity should be availablefor everyone.
01:58:37.000 Water from taps should beavailable for everyone.
01:58:40.160 Does the common man
01:58:43.000 have to beg from their own government?
01:58:49.160 Is this still the British rule?
01:58:51.760 It is his right.
01:58:54.680 There should be complete deliveryof essentials.
01:58:58.600 Beneficiaries should get their due.
01:59:01.720 All the benefits should reach people.
01:59:05.040 There will be no discrimination, and that is true social justice.
01:59:08.680 That is the true secularism.
01:59:10.440 So, I emphasise on those things.
01:59:14.960 And its driving forceis Aspirational India.
01:59:19.680 For me,"AI" stands for "Aspirational India."
01:59:24.680 Because of that, I keep thinking,"If these are my goals for 2047,
01:59:29.920 and I am here in 2025,
01:59:31.840 then how much do I still have to do?"
01:59:34.040 Earlier, I used to lookat how far I have come forward.
01:59:38.240 Now, I am thinking, "If I am here, where will I reach by tomorrow?"
01:59:43.680 So now all my thoughts are onlyin the context of 2047.
01:59:50.560 So, my third term is radically differentfrom the two terms.
01:59:56.280 It has completely changed.
01:59:58.960 And it is a huge dream.
02:00:03.600 सर, क्या आगे करने की आपकी कोई योजना है?
02:00:07.240 क्या कोई ऐसा युवा जिस पर आपको भरोसा है,आप प्रशिक्षित या संस्कारित कर
रहे हों?
02:00:11.880 Not for today, but 20-30 years from now?
02:00:16.040 I can see a lot of people with potential.
02:00:20.960 When I was in Gujarat, I used to say,"While I may run the government,
02:00:26.240 I actually want to prepare the peoplefor the next 20 years before I
go."
02:00:33.200 And I am doing it.
02:00:35.600 My success lies in this.
02:00:38.640 How do I prepare my team, who will be able to handle things?
02:00:43.720 This is the criteria for me.
02:00:47.240 And, sir, one last question from me.
02:00:49.680 The minimum requirementsto become a politician are not very high.
02:00:54.760 ...उनकी आयु 25 वर्ष से अधिक होनी चाहिए।
02:00:56.320 दो वर्ष से अधिक की सजा न हो, वोटर आइ डी...
02:00:59.840 These are very small requirements.
02:01:02.840 ...तो सर, इस लंबी बातचीत के बादमैं यही चाहता हूँ...
02:01:10.080 that 10,000 such youngpeople come from somewhere,
02:01:14.120 who may join politics, and I know, you will help them.
02:01:18.640 What is your closing statement--
02:01:20.160 What you are saying is about thequalifications to become a candidate.
02:01:24.480 Yes.
02:01:25.800 You are not influencing themto become a politician.
02:01:27.920 ...सही है...
02:01:29.160 To become a politician, you need a lot of qualifications.
02:01:33.240 You are being watchedby a thousand people at every moment.
02:01:38.640 One wrong statement can nullifyten years of service and dedication.
02:01:45.920 You have to be conscious 24/7.
02:01:50.800 You have to live with it.
02:01:55.560 ...अनोखे स्वभाव चाहिए,
02:01:58.640 और योग्यता वही है...
02:02:01.120 And no university certificatecan give you this.
02:02:06.280 What would you like to say
02:02:07.440 ...एक विदाई संदेश के रूप मेंइस शो को देखने वाले सभी युवाओंं के लिए...
02:02:13.440 If you have a message for them.
02:02:14.720 First of all, I would like to tellthe mothers, sisters and young
girls--
02:02:22.000 Today, in almost every stateof our country...
02:02:26.560 it can be more or less, but there is 50% reservation for women
02:02:32.760 in panchayat, village head, municipality, metropolitan municipality.
02:02:41.880 They should try
02:02:45.680 to be a leader in the true sense.
02:02:50.960 They shouldn't think that there was a needfor women, so they have been
included.
02:02:56.400 That's not the case.
02:02:58.960 You have to lead the society.
02:03:02.360 If it requires you to lead men,you have to do it.
02:03:06.480 These are my mothers and young girls.
02:03:10.040 They should standwith the quality of leadership.
02:03:13.560 I'm saying this, because, in the near future,
02:03:18.120 there will be 30%reservation in MLA and MP category.
02:03:23.520 At that time, we will needmany such groups.
02:03:29.480 We have a few years now.
02:03:31.440 I'll urge them to join this field,
02:03:35.400 and work on making themselvesas capable as possible.
02:03:40.840 This is your time, understand this.
02:03:44.520 Secondly, I would tell the youthof the country
02:03:49.640 to not consider politics as something bad.
02:03:53.520 And don't restrict yourself to the thoughtthat politics is all about
elections.
02:03:58.880 Experience the political sectorand public life once.
02:04:03.320 Join in any form. And today, the country needs
02:04:07.280 leadership that stems from creativity.
02:04:15.120 A politician rooted in agitationbecomes a different kind of model.
02:04:22.160 There was creativityin our freedom movement.
02:04:25.480 So we got a different kind of lot.
02:04:27.880 Now the country needs creativity,
02:04:31.760 those who think creatively, those who make new things,
02:04:34.520 those who prepare themselves, those who understand happiness and
sorrow,
02:04:38.680 those who find solutions, not those who humiliate others,
02:04:43.160 those who find newer avenuesfor the country--
02:04:45.840 The country needs this kind of community.
02:04:51.680 I am not saying thatthere are no such people today.
02:04:53.920 There is a need for new people.
02:04:55.640 And today's 20-25 year olds,
02:04:58.280 will be 40-50 year olds by 2047.
02:05:03.560 Which means they will be in a good placeto run the country
efficiently.
02:05:09.360 Secondly, when I urgecountry's youth to come forward,
02:05:15.760 some people may thinkthat I am promoting BJP.
02:05:21.080 I am talking aboutthe politics of the country.
02:05:24.280 I'm not telling you to jointhe Bhartiya Janata Party,
02:05:26.480 or choose this or that party,I am not suggesting anything.
02:05:32.320 I wish for a new flow in all parties.
02:05:36.880 They should come into all parties.
02:05:39.120 They should come into BJP,but also into other parties.
02:05:44.200 That the youth should come forward
02:05:47.120 for a new beginning.
02:05:51.880 ...धन्यवाद मोदी जी...
02:05:53.760 It was great.
02:05:54.920 -You spent so much time with us.-This was my first podcast.
02:05:56.760 -...आपका बहुत, बहुत धन्यवाद।-I
02:05:58.640 don't know how youraudience will take it.
02:06:01.480 ...आपने हमेशा की तरहबहुत बढ़िया बातें कहीं।
02:06:04.160 आपकी मेहरबानीकि हमारे साथ इतना समय बिताया...
02:06:07.200 Great.
02:06:09.560 Your team must be tired too.
02:06:12.680 Take care, the weather here,it is very cold.
02:06:15.800 Yeah.
