DISMANTLING

1. GENERAL NOTES
- All the instructions specific to the erection and the telescoping apply also to the dismantling and the
telescoping down operations.
- The instructions specific to the dismantling and the telescoping down operations are specified on the
following pages.
- In the final phase, dismantling can completely be carried out by the mobile crane, but − depending
on the site configurations − also partially by means of the hoist winch (unballasting), this requires that
the electrical installations remain untouched.
- If dismantling is completely carried out by the mobile crane, make sure, that its capacity is sufficient,
see chapter 14A.
- For this purpose, the present brochure deals with both cases of dismantling for lowering the counter−
jib ballast and dismantling the jib.

For telescoping down and dismantling, the wind speed is limited to 50 km/h.
It is forbidden to stay under a moving load.
It is forbidden to transport the staff hanging from the load.
Working in height (danger of fall) must be carried out with the safety harness.

1. 1. PREPARATIONS BEFORE DISMANTLING

Make sure that no obstacle will interfere during the dismantling operations.
For cranes with travelling gear:
- Bring the crane to the dismantling area.
- Fold down the rail clamps of the bogies and tighten them onto the rails.

2. TELESCOPING DOWN

2. 1. PREPARATION BEFORE TELESCOPING DOWN

See chapter 31B.
- Raise the telescopic cage to the top of the towerhead and pin−connect it to the four corners (Details
A and B − Figure 1).
- Fold up the access ladder to the towerhead.
- Fit the telescoping accessories by observing the following points:
` Extend completely the hydraulic cylinder and pin−connect the telescoping yoke (1) to the lugs (2)
(Detail C − Figure 1).
` The monorail trolley is fitted onto the monorails and fixed onto the mast section to be removed.
- Slew the jib to the open side of the telescopic cage.
- Bring the crane in balancing position for telescoping, see chapter 32B

2. 2. TELESCOPING DOWN OF A 1,60 M MAST SECTION

- Remove the drifts (1) and the shafts (2) connecting the mast section to the fixed towerhead (Detail
A − Figure 2), slightly telescope.
- As soon as the feet of the towerhead are lifted off of the fishplates about 2 cm (Detail B − Figure 2),
stop telescoping in order to lock the screw bolts (3) of the fixing brackets (4) of the monorail trolley
onto the mast section to be dismantled (Detail C − Figure 2).
- Do not use the complete stroke of the fixing brackets (4) of the monorail trolley.
- Remove the drifts (1) and shafts (2) connecting the mast section (5) to the next mast section below.
- Lift off the ladder.
- Operate again ”Up” for telescoping until the mast section (5) can be pulled out of the fishplates, then
rest the pawls (6) of the telescopic cage onto the mast lugs (7).
- Roll the monorail trolley (8) in order to take the mast section out of the telescopic cage, fold up a bit
the ladders upwards in order to avoid catching with the lower mast section.
- Repeat in reverse order the telescoping operations described in chapter 31B.
- Repeat the operations 3 times for telescoping down a mast section.

2. 3. LAYING DOWN THE MAST SECTION ON THE GROUND

- Operate again ”Down” for telescoping until the feet of the towerhead can be engaged into the fish-
plates of the lower mast section (Detail A − Figure 3), fit the safety shafts at the four corners.
- Possibly lay down the balancing load.
- Introduce the telescoping hook (1) into the monorail trolley (2), then lower the mast section to the
ground.
- Lift the monorail trolley (2), insert it on the monorails (3), then connect it with a new mast section.
- Take again the balancing load.
- Repeat all the operations as often as necessary until complete dismantling of the crane tower.
- Disconnect the hydraulic unit, drain it and lay it down.
- Connect the towerhead to the basic mast by means of the normal shafts used during work.
- Remove the telescoping accessories (hydraulic unit, monorail trolley, etc. ...).

3. DISMANTLING THE SLEWING CRANE PART

Use the slings of which the diameter corresponds to the load to be handled. In any case make sure that
they are in perfect state.
The weight and the center of gravity of the jibs and counter−jibs are given for a precise composition of
the packages; observe this composition.
IMPORTANT INSTRUCTION:
- When dismantling certain crane parts, as jib, counter−jib, ... it is necessary to
observe safety rules in order to avoid any risk of unbalancing when removing the
lifted crane part with respect to the rest of the crane.
- At the moment of dismantling the jib and counter−jib, fit a sling and a shackle
between the crane part to be dismantled and the cathead. Depending on the deter-
mined unbalancing (upwards or downwards), install a ”Tirfor” with which the load can
be maintained stable. After tightening the ”Tirfor” remove the safety sling and act on
the ”Tirfor” during lowering.
- The operations on the jib foot or counter−jib foot are carried out with the safety har-
ness fixed to the cathead.

- As the weights, centers of gravity and slinging positions are given with the trolley and the pulley blocks,
fix the pulley blocks under the trolley with the slings before removing the hoist rope.
- Unpin the rope anchor box (1) from the swivel (2) of the jib nose.
- If the counter−jib ballast and the jib cannot be dismantled by means of the mobile crane, the hoist rope
will be wound onto the winch drum. Otherwise, it can be stored onto a reel. USE THE DISMANTLING
OPERATION FOR CHECKING THE WHOLE ROPE LENGTH.
- Unballast the counter−jib according to paragraph 51B−0320.
- Disconnect the electric circuits and remove the cables.
- Remove all the accessories. Disconnect the electric circuits connecting the parts of the steel structure,
as well as the safety cable or other cable.
