Executive summary
This report explains about the internship experience that have under taken and what i did during
the past one month, within wonberma woreda ICT center. An internship is a work experience
offered by an organization for a limited period of time.
The main purpose of internship is to learn by working in practical environment and to apply
the knowledge acquired during the studies in a real-world a description of how things might
happen in the future in order to take on the problems using the knowledge and skill learned
during the academic process. In this document, i put about every major aspect of the wonberma
woreda ICT center, which i sensed and observed during our internship program.
This report is divided in to five sections. Section one will discuss about the background of
wonberma woreda ICT center. In section two will get the overall internship experience
wonberma woreda ICT center network installation. Section three the overall benefits i gained
during the internship program. Section four describing about my project work. The last section
is conclusion and recommendations of the previous sections which about ICT center. The most
important thing in an internship program is that the student should spend their time by learning
practical orientation of theoretical study framework.

INTRODUCTION

1 .1Historical Background of Wenberma Woreda ICT Center

Wonberma wereda Information and Communication Technology Development Agency is a
government organization which was established in April 2007 E.C. It has got a responsibility of
managing, regulating, developing, investigating, securing and performing any ICT related
activities in the region under the scope and collaboration with Federal ICT Development Agency
or recently called Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. ICT is the
indispensable factor to intervene the multi-faceted problems facing the country. To enhance good
governance and improve service delivery to citizens ICT plays a significant role in the city. It has
four case teams: Network, Software and Website development, Data-center and Maintenance,
and Research and Training. It was established through the proclamation No. 11/2009 G.C to
Make the society and the institutions, to be the beneficial of information communication
technology by inaugurating and spreading out of information net that affords fast service;
providing maintenance and data center service by developing software and website; and
providing training, counseling, and making researches and investigations.

1.2 Vision
“Accelerate the rapid learning and development of effective science and information
technologies in our region by 2030; Adaptation and Use Capacity”

1.3 Mission
We have created a state-of-the-art regional and national competitiveness and technology-
enhanced system for the development and implementation of science and information technology
services that will contribute significantly to the region's social and economic development .

1.5 Objectives
This practical internship has two kinds of objectives these are general and specific objectives.

1.5.1 General objective

Making skillful and competence students in the maintenance knowledge including software and
hardware maintenance (zelalem, 2022).

1.5.2 Specific objective

 The way how to identify the software and hard ware problems.
 The way how to maintain the problems of computers.
 The way how to fix problems of software.
 The way how to fix problems of hardware

1.6 Its main products or services provided

The institute provides different kinds of services efficiently and effectively for the satisfaction of
clients and consumers. The main services are:-
 Provide basic computer training and ICT trainings
 Networking
 Computer hardware and software maintenance
 Maintenance and assessment of ICT equipment’s
 Preparing specifications of ICT equipment
 Providing construction service training
 Giving basic electrical installation training

2. THE OVERALL INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE

When I where in the 3thyear I was learned about Computer maintenance course at that time I
were amazed by the magic of computer Technology, then I planned to work further in my
Internship about Internet work in maintenance. I need do my internship in ethio-
telecommunication, but I cannot get it. When I have asked them, their response was not good.
Because of that, I have missed the ethio-telecommunication company. Optionally I was gathering
information about wenberma woreda ICT center, they were voluntary to accept me and hence I
apply joyfully.

2.1 Section of wonberma woreda ICT center

I have been working the office has many sections, I have been working in the computer maintenance

2.2 The work flow in the section

The work flow in the wonberma woreda ICT center, if some customers came and request something
concerning to computer maintenance, network installation, computer maintenance and printer/copy
maintenance, then the team members will solve the problem immediately if it is easy and no spare part is
required. However, if the problem needs time and materials the team leader will solve it

2.3 The task and work piece i have executed in the section
In this information communication technology section, i was working as an individual in computer
maintenance. At the beginning of my internship program i were ask to wonberma woreda ICT team
coordinator Mr. Zelalem about the ground rule of the office.
Then i begin working and studying about computer maintenance.

2.4 Work Tasks I have been Executing

Most of the time I was working on the section of computer maintenance. In general the main
tasks were:
 Computer hardware and software maintenance and troubleshooting
 Laptop repair

2.5 Introduction of Maintenance
This internship is very useful for students because of this reason wolaita sodo university has
given this chance for Third year Information Technology students. I am one the students who
have got this chance. Therefore , I have got many practical knowledge from this internship. I
have involved in wonberma wereda Public Crevice Office ICT center. I have seen or trained
there in computer maintenance. In our modern world, computers have become an integral part of
our daily lives. Whether you're using a computer for work, education, entertainment, or
communication, it's essential to keep it in peak condition to ensure it runs smoothly, securely,
and efficiently. This is where computer maintenance comes into play.
This guide serves as an introduction to computer maintenance, exploring the reasons why it's
crucial, the components it covers, and the benefits it provides. By the end, you'll have a clear
understanding of how regular computer maintenance can enhance the lifespan and performance
of your device.

2.5.1 Computer maintenance

The combination of hardware and software troubleshooting is called maintenance.

2.5.2 Components of Computer Maintenance

Computer maintenance encompasses various aspects, including:
Software Maintenance: This involves keeping your operating system and software applications
up to date. Regular updates patch security vulnerabilities and improve functionality.
Data Management: Effective data management includes organizing files, creating backups, and
ensuring data security.
Hardware Maintenance: Cleaning the hardware, monitoring temperatures, and inspecting
components to prevent overheating and hardware failure.

Security Measures: Implementing security practices like using strong passwords and firewalls to
protect your system from threats.
Performance Optimization: Monitoring system performance and addressing resource-intensive
tasks and applications.
Documentation and Planning: Maintaining records and planning for upgrades and replacements
based on your computer's age and performance.
Troubleshooting: Learning basic troubleshooting techniques to identify and resolve common
computer issues.
This training is given by classifying into two categories. These are physical maintenance or hard
ware maintenance and software maintenance. I have trained about the two types of maintenance.
There are basic differences between the two types of maintenances. The hard ware maintenance
is performed in the hardware part of the computer like monitor, processor, mouse and keyboard
and soon. But the software maintenance is performed in the software or program of the
computer. That is performed by changing malfunsctioning software and installing supporting
software like antivirus.
Computer maintenance is the practice of regularly caring for your computer hardware and
software to ensure it operates efficiently, reliably, and securely. Proper computer maintenance
can help prevent issues, extend the lifespan of your computer, and protect your data.
A) Software Maintenance:
1. Operating System Updates: Regularly install updates and patches provided by the operating
system manufacturer. This helps fix security vulnerabilities, improve stability, and add new
features.
2. Driver Updates: Keep device drivers up to date, especially for components like the graphics
card, network adapter, and chipset. Outdated drivers can lead to compatibility and performance
issues.
3. Software Updates: Update all installed software applications, including web browsers, office
suites, media players, and any other third-party applications. Outdated software can be a security
risk.
4. Antivirus and Anti-Malware: Ensure you have reliable antivirus and anti-malware software
installed. Keep virus definitions up to date and schedule regular scans.

5. Disk Cleanup: Periodically use built-in tools or third-party software to remove temporary files,
cached data, and unnecessary files from your system to free up disk space.
Data Management:
6. Regular Backups: Implement a robust backup strategy to protect your data. Use automatic
backup tools and store backups on external drives or in the cloud.
7. Data Organization: Keep your files organized in a logical folder structure. Regularly clean up
and delete files you no longer need.
8. Disk Optimization: Regularly defragment your hard drive (for HDDs) or trim your SSD to
optimize file storage and access times.
B) Hardware Maintenance:
9. Cleaning: Clean your computer case, keyboard, mouse, and monitor regularly to prevent the
buildup of dust and debris. Internally, use compressed air to remove dust, especially from fans,
heat sinks, and power supply units.
10. Temperature Control: Ensure your computer has adequate ventilation. Overheating can lead
to hardware damage. Monitor component temperatures and address overheating issues promptly.
11. Hardware Inspections: Periodically inspect the hardware for signs of wear, loose
connections, or physical damage. Pay attention to cables, connectors, and internal components.
12. Component Upgrades: Consider upgrading or replacing aging components like hard drives,
RAM, power supplies, and graphics cards to improve performance and extend the computer's
lifespan.
13. Peripheral Maintenance: Don't forget about external hardware like printers, scanners, and
external hard drives. Update their drivers and clean them as needed.
Security Measures:
14. Password Management: Use strong, unique passwords for your accounts and consider using a
password manager to store and manage them securely.
15. Firewall: Enable and configure a firewall to control incoming and outgoing network traffic,
protecting your computer from unauthorized access.
16. Awareness: Educate yourself about cybersecurity best practices, including how to recognize
phishing attempts and social engineering attacks

3.1 BENEFITS I GAINED FROM INTERNSHIPIMPROVING

PRACTICAL SKILLS
This internship program helped me to handle the practical knowledge and skill. I could increase practical
performance. I could also evaluate I how much i can change the theoretical knowledge to the practical
one.
Some of the practical skills are:
 To maintain computer hardware
 To maintain software
 Problem identification
 Finding the solution

3.2 Upgrading theoretical knowledge

My imagination was good on the theoretical part at the classroom that how the theory changed to
practical, how Equipment can be use practically. How the overall concepts of the courses are related and
are apply exactly on practical works? I have seen at my internship period that helped me to improve my
theoretical skills and to relate what i have learnt at the classroom with the practical things i have been
working. Therefore, i gained the following essential things Effective assessment and management of
resource, risk, & time Aware of continued educational opportunities through such resources as academic
institutions, the work place, and professional society.

3.3 Improving Interpersonal Communication Skills

Communication is the way to understands other and to explain what is inside me. Other than, the practical
and theoretical improving skills the other i learned is how develop my social interaction and
communication skills with other. Therefore, in terms of interpersonal communication, i improve to
explain what i have in my mind to others and the program helped me to do so. Also to develop:
 Sharing ideas & knowledge
 Self-confidence
 Speaking and listening skill of
 Respect people
 Improves Handling information

3.4 Understanding work ethics related issues

A work ethics is a belief in the moral benefit and importance of work and its ability to strengthen
character. A strong work ethic can improve one’s career. I gained some moral principles posing a strong
work ethics guide me to have work behavior and i noticed that it would lead to produce high quality work
consistently. I have seen that in my internship period a strong work ethic is vital to a company achieving
its goals. I have known important things about work ethics like:
 Impartiality
 Sense of responsibility
 To respect the rules and the regulations of the compound
 Discipline
 Dedication
 Sense of teamwork
 Co-operation
 Honesty

CHAPTER FOUR

GENERAL CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

4.1 Conclusion
Internship Program helps me to know several things. This upgrades my practical skills in office

machine maintenance and troubleshooting. This internship program helps me to know and
understand every aspect of the outside environment. In fact what really interesting was I learn
how to maintain and troubleshoot office machine step by step, so this enable me to come up with
many important experience and skills. So using this practical knowledge and skills that I got
during internship had helped me to create a soft environment to engage into my own business in
future.
In this internship program I tried to create a good relationship with employees and ask several
questions what is not clear. The other thing I got from this internship program is how to manage
work through this also I have increased my self-confidence, work ethics and how to work
cooperatively with others in the offices, from this I learnt good values and principles like
politeness, respecting others ,giving decision, punctuality ,fulfilling responsibilities, giving a
good attention to others and like. So I concluded that the internship is good opportunity to the
student to have enough knowledge that help student in the future, and its good opportunity to
know work environment and to prepares themselves for the future goal and to have a good aim
before graduation.

4.2 Recommendation for the company

i would like to give some suggestion on some points to observe the time of internship. I recommended
that the organizations to know what the interne will go to do in their organization. They have to ask first
what the intention of that student will be, and what advantage that the organization will go to have after
finishing the duration. I want to recommend it based on my observation while i was conducting the
internship program.
Thus, recommendations are as follow:
The workers in this institute are very surprising to work each other since it the work is sequential which
means among the workers one is missed something the whole works are affect, so it is better to formulate
schedule.
The company should be ready for intern students by preparing project tasks and motivations to achieve
this internship program. Even if there were offices to take rest and put any material to perform this
internship program, they were not willing to give the office.

Structure of the Attachment

The practical internship is organized through three steps namely placement, supervision and
evaluation.

Placement
I selected Wonberma Woreda Which is found in West gojjam Zone because my family is leaving
there. I selected ICT center which is found in the Wereda administration.

Supervision
I have an advisor his name is Eyobed who is a clever teacher and advisor for me he gave a
chance to ask any support from his and he helped me in all the time. There are also an advisor
from the ICT center who helped me to know everything.

Evaluation
The assessment will be distributed between the attachment supervisor, academic supervisor and
practical internship (attachment) report.

This practical internship program is very much useful for every student including me. I can get a
lot of knowledge concerning maintenance of the computers. I have got the two kinds of
maintenance that mean hardware and software maintenance knowledge from this practical
internship program which is given by wolaita Sodo University.
