l.Branches of Chemistry
1. What are the five (5) branches of chemistry?
Answer:
Organic chemistry
Inorganic chemistry
Analytical chemistry
Physical chemistry
Biochemistry
2. Explain each branch and give examples of each. (In your own words).
Answer:
Organic chemistry - the study of the structure, properties, composition, reactions, and
preparation of carbon-containing compounds.
Example(gasoline, plastics, detergents, dyes, food additives, natural gas, and medicines).
Inorganic chemistry - the study of the behaviour of compounds along with their properties, their
physical and chemical characteristics.
Example(titanium, iron, nickel and copper).
Analytical chemistry - studies and uses instruments and methods to separate, identify, and
quantify matter.
Example(chromatography,mass spectrometry, spectroscopy).
Physical chemistry - the branch of chemistry concerned with the application of the techniques
and theories of physics to the study of chemical systems.
Example(nitric acid eating through wood).
Biochemistry - the branch of science concerned with the chemical and physicochemical
processes and substances that occur within living organisms.
Example(a biochemist may study the characteristics of the keratin in hair so that shampoo may
be developed that enhances curliness or softness)
ll.Importance of Chemistry
1. How does Chemistry help you in your daily living?
Answer:Chemistry is essential for meeting our basic needs of food, clothing, shelter, health,
energy, and clean air, water, and soil. Chemical technologies enrich our quality of life in
numerous ways by providing new solutions to problems in health, materials, and energy usage
2. Is chemistry important in your life? Explain your stand.
Answer:yes,Because it is so fundamental to our world, chemistry plays a role in everyone's lives
and touches almost every aspect of our existence in some way. Chemistry is essential for
meeting our basic needs of food, clothing, shelter, health, energy, and clean air, water, and soil.
III. Role of Chemists in the Academe, Government and Industry
1. How do Chemists help you in your daily living?
Answer:Chemistry is important in everyday life because understanding basic chemistry is
essential for understanding the effects of chemicals on the environment. This information can
be used to give plants the best nutrients to help them grow or to decide how to dispose of
chemicals without poisoning the air or water supply.
2.Pick one role of a chemist that you think is important in your daily living. Explain why?
Answer:Chemist are important in the industry because they provide our basic needs food,
shelter and clothing in every day in our life, because of their works throughout, our economy
sustains balance on nature and humans.

Essay
1.What is the importance of chemistry?
Answer: Chemistry is important because it helps in exploring things which are unknown
to mankind. Chemistry is important because it explains the future behavior of plants and
animals and all of us use chemicals directly or indirectly in our daily lives. We are using
chemistry when we cook, when we wash, when we eat, when we get ready, when we
play, when we think, as a matter of fact, we always use chemistry. Increasing our
knowledge in chemistry is essential if we want to improve our daily lifestyle.
Chemistry is also important for the environment. When you are aware of the harmful
effects of the gases like carbon dioxide and methane as a result of the greenhouse
effect, you can easily carve out the solutions for the reduction of its effects on the
environment. If you possess a minimum knowledge of the importance and use of
chemistry you can help in saving the environment to a large extent.
Though chemistry is understood as a complicated and a boring science subject, but
chemistry is solely responsible in explaining the world you live in, apart from explaining
cooking, cleaning, medicine and environment issues; chemistry is in essence the study of
everything.
Understanding the basic chemistry is essential for all, but specializing in chemistry,
making a career out of the subject is also interesting. Plenty of chemistry related high
paying jobs are available today. All the medical students, physicists, geologists,
nutritionists study chemistry.
2.How does chemistry affect our life?
Answer: The industrial applications of chemistry directly affect our daily lives what we
eat, what we wear, our transportation, the technology we use, how we treat diseases
and whether how we get electricity just to name a few. Research continues to deepen
our understanding of chemistry, and lead to new discoveries.
Chemistry is a big part of your daily life. You see chemistry in everyday life in the foods
you eat, air you breathe, soap, your emotions and literally everything you see or touch.
Food is made of chemicals. Many of the changes you notice in the world around you are
caused by chemical reactions.
3. Describe the work of Chemist?
Answer: In general, chemists analyze organic and inorganic compounds, refine
substances and test chemical products. Their role is to improve the quality of products
and procedures while ensuring safety.
