QUESTION 1

SCENARIO

Food vendors are situated at most of the taxi ranks in South Africa. People can
buy a meal after a long day of work before catching a taxi and heading home.

Vending stalls provide jobs for many South Africans. They provide a valuable
service to the community. However, most food is packaged in plastic
polystyrene containers. These containers are not biodegradable and cause a
large amount of pollution (Bosch et al., 2013 p. 123).

You are required to design and make a new biodegradable hamburger

container to be used by the food vendors at South African taxi ranks. The
budget for material and labour is R5. 00 per container. As you think about
designing and making a new hamburger container:

1.1 State at least THREE questions you need to consider during the designing and
making process of the hamburger container. (3)

Paper Waste: Paper waste causes severe problems in so many offices and
industries over the world. Due to printing mistakes, billings, junk mails, and
packaging, such paper could comprise approximately 70% of the total waste of a

is firstly separated and then the separated paper is cleaned and washed with soap
in order for it to be broken down. After it is broken down, it is then exposed to heat
after which it breaks down into cellulose. Recycling is an essential method to reduce
pollution and cut back on waste accumulation.
Notebooks, old newspapers, and used envelopes can be recycled. However, paper
contaminated with food, stickers, and carbon paper cannot be recycled …
(Popoola, 2022 September 21).

9.1 Write TRUE or FALSE (T or F):

9.1.1 Recycling means collecting and converting waste into reusable material. _ (1)
