MECHANICS AND CRITERIA FOR DEBATE
1. Format:
a. Teams: Two teams, each consisting of two or three members - one or two main speakers and, a reserve.
b. Rounds: Three preliminary rounds and a final round.
c. Speech Duration: 8 minutes for the first speaker, 8 minutes for the second speaker, and 4 minutes for
the third speaker .

Note: Preparation Time: Participants are allowed to prepare their arguments.
3. Speaker Roles:
a. First Affirmative: Presents the opening arguments supporting the resolution.
b. First Negative: Challenges the opening arguments and introduces counterarguments.
c. Second Affirmative: Further develops the case for the resolution and responds to opposition points.
d. Second Negative: Further develops the opposition's case and counters affirmative arguments.
e. Rebuttal Speakers :Summarize and reinforce the main points of their team's case.
5. Cross-Examination:
a. Rules: One minute protected at the beginning and end of each speech for cross-examination.
b. Purpose: To challenge and clarify opponents' arguments.
6. Rebuttal:
a. Rules: 4 minutes for each team for rebuttals.
b. Purpose: Direct response to opponents' arguments, strengthening their own position.

1. Content (40 points):
a. Clarity of Argument (15 points): How clearly the team presented and supported its case.
b. Depth of Analysis (15 points): The thoroughness of research and analysis of the topic.
c. Relevance to the Resolution (10 points): The direct connection of arguments to the resolution.
2. Style (30 points):
a. Clarity of Expression (10 points): How well the team articulated its points.
b. Tone and Diction (10 points): The appropriateness of language and tone.
c. Engagement (10 points): Interaction with the audience and effective communication.
3. Strategy (30 points):
a. Response to Opposition (10 points): Effectiveness in countering opponents' arguments.
b. Adaptation of Arguments (10 points): Ability to adjust and strengthen their case.
c. Time Management (10 points): Efficient use of time during speeches and cross-examinations.
