WE PROPOSE
The Unit supports the EC’s Raw Materials Information System (RMIS). This provides crucial
EU-level knowledge/intelligence for policy in relation to metals/minerals in the context of
secure and sustainable supply.
This position will support the knowledge/intelligence on individual raw material extraction and
processing, particularly on strategic and critical materials. Analyses will include forecasts of
supply, as well as of potential security/sustainability implications.
Particular focus will be put on the extraction/processing, also in relation to knowledge about
the environmental performance of extraction/processing (primary and secondary) raw
materials, but equally in relation to competitiveness and economic aspects.
Outputs (such as technical/scientific briefs and reports) will facilitate the
development/maintenance of key sections of the RMIS related to individual metals/minerals
and will contribute to implementation of specific policies.
Key policies to be supported by the team include the 2024 Critical Raw Materials Act and the
upcoming Clean Industrial Deal and Steel and Metals Action plan.
Work will be conducted as part of a project team. The research and analyses supporting the
EC’s RMIS are conducted in an interdisciplinary and international team. Outputs regularly
support other Directorate Generals and senior management of the European Commission,
including in relation to short-notice adhoc requests, specific policy request as well as longer
