WEEK 7 & 8
Constructivist Teaching: Interactive, Collaborative, Integrative, and
Inquiry-Based
Introduction

The Constructivist Learning as an educational theory places emphasis on the learner, and the
teacher’s role acts as facilitator of development from sensory motor where the child is unaware that if
an object is not seen it still exist; pre-operational where the child need concrete physical situation and
is unable to conceptualize in the abstract (e.g. to see, hear, feel in order to understand something);
concrete where the child create logical structure to explain his/her environment and lastly formal
operations where the child cognitive structures are like an adult and include conceptual reasoning
which focuses of the mind and its effect on learning. Another psychologist who aspired in learning
relates to social constructivism is Lev Vygotsky where He emphasized the effects of one’s
environment like our own family, friends, tradition and background.

Discussion Board

1. What is a constructivist teaching: Interactive, Collaborative, Integrative, and Inquiry-Based ?

- Constructivist teaching is an approach that emphasizes active learning, where students build
knowledge through experience and interaction. It includes interactive learning, which engages
students in discussions and activities; collaborative learning, where teamwork and peer
interaction enhance understanding; integrative learning, which connects different subjects for a
holistic perspective; and inquiry-based learning, where students explore and investigate
concepts independently. This method encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and
deeper comprehension.
2. How does it work in an OBE classroom?
- In an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) classroom, constructivist teaching works by focusing
on student-centered learning and measurable outcomes. Educators design lessons that allow
students to actively engage with content, apply knowledge in real-world contexts, and
collaborate with peers. Assessments are performance-based, ensuring students demonstrate
understanding through projects, presentations, and problem-solving activities. This approach
fosters independent thinking and prepares students for practical applications beyond the
classroom.
3. What are the features of a constructivist teaching?
- The key features of constructivist teaching include student autonomy, where learners take
responsibility for their education; active participation, encouraging engagement through
discussions and hands-on activities; collaborative learning, promoting teamwork and shared
knowledge; real-world application, ensuring concepts are relevant and practical; and
continuous reflection, allowing students to assess their learning progress. Teachers act as
facilitators, guiding students rather than dictating information, creating a dynamic and
interactive learning environment.

II. ESSAY:

How do you apply the constructivist teaching in the classroom settings?

Constructivist teaching is applied in classroom settings by creating an interactive and student-centered learning
environment. Teachers act as facilitators rather than direct instructors, encouraging students to explore concepts through
discussions, problem-solving, and hands-on activities. Lessons are designed to connect prior knowledge with new
information, allowing students to construct their understanding. Collaborative learning is emphasized, where students work
in groups to share ideas and develop critical thinking skills. Inquiry-based learning is also integrated, prompting students to
ask questions and seek solutions independently. By fostering engagement, reflection, and real-world application,
constructivist teaching enhances deeper learning and meaningful knowledge retention.
