Grade 9 Tech

The document outlines a project for Grade 9 Technology students to design and create stands for potted plants to prevent waterlogging during storms. It includes instructions for sketching three design ideas and selecting the best one, along with a rubric for assessment. Additionally, it covers key concepts related to structures, forces, and material properties relevant to the project.

NOTES
SOURCE
POT PLANT STAND Your parents have bought a lot
of potted plants in the last few months. Many of
the potted plants are standing on the ground
against an outside wall. There are frequent
cloudbursts and storms in your area, which cause
the plants to get waterlogged. In Technology class
you learned about structures and structural
reinforcement. Your parents asked you to design
and make single stands for the potted plants to
keep each one off the ground when it rains.

DRAWING
Draw THREE neat freehand sketches on the drawing sheet of different ideas for
potted plant stands. Choose the best ONE of your initial ideas and give a reason
next to the outline for this particular choice. You will be assessed according to this
rubric.

Multiple-choice
A perspective drawing is a three-dimensional image
that gives a true image of the object.

An artist's performance provides a Realistic

interpretation of what an object will look like.
The THREE main levels ARE Vertically, horizontally, and
auxiliary vertically.

First-angle orthographic projection is a Two-dimensional

Drawing.

Dimensions are measurements of an object in a drawing

and are always given in millimeters.

Static force doesn’t move and change.

Something that moves an object is called power.

Mass refers to the amount of Matter that contains an

object.

Corrosion refers to the gradual deterioration of a material

Weight is balanced across the structure is called Equal.

Hardness: The ability of a material to resist scratches, wear

and tear, and deformation.

Flexibility: The ability of a material to bend without

breaking.

Mass: The amount of material that an object contains.

Elasticity: The ability of a material to change shape and

then return to its original size.

Stiffness: The ability of a material to exert external force

and maintain its original shape.
Even: A balanced load – weight is evenly distributed across the
structure.

Uneven: The load isn't balanced evenly across a structure – one

part of the structure carries more weight than the other.

Equal: A balanced load – weight is evenly distributed across a

structure.

Uneven: Charge is not evenly distributed across a structure – one

part of the structure carries more weight than the other.

Compression force, ü tension/tensile force, ü shear force, torsion

force, bending force

Compressive force, pulling force, shear force, torque, bending

force.
