2. European Projects
NGTC (2013-2017): The project analysed the similarities / differences of the required
functionality of ETCS and CBTC systems, and to determine the achievable commonality level of
architecture, hardware platforms and system design.
STARS (2016-2018): The aim of this project is to fill the gap between ERTMS needs for safety
critical applications and EGNSS services, through a characterisation of the railway
environment. → Precursor of S2R TD2.4 “Fail Safe Train Positioning”.
Shift2Rail (from 2016-present): CAF is a founding member of S2R and coordinator of IP1. We
are collaborating in all IP2 Technical Demonstrators (ATO over ETCS, Moving Block, TMS
Evolution, Cyber security, etc.).
EURAIL (from Oct. 2022 – present): CAF is participating to Flagship Area 1 to 6 (TMS, ATO,
Green Rail, Regional Rail Services, Intelligent Asset Management).

Technical features
o Safety
AURIGA TS complies with the CENELEC 50126, 50128 and 50129 standards,
reaching a certified safety integrity level SIL4.
o Availability
The main components of AURIGA TS are based on the CAF Signalling
safety platform with 2oo3 architecture, providing a high availability and
fault tolerance at all levels.
• Up to 8 interlocking supported.
• Interoperability certified.
o Interoperability
• As Full UNISIG Member, CAF Signalling has certified that its ETCS solutions are fully interoperable with the ETCS systems of other
manufacturers. The AURIGA L1/L2/L3 track systems can thus operate with the ETCS on-board systems of other companies.
• As well as the AURIGA OBS on-board equipment, it can run on tracks equipped with ETCS systems from other
manufacturers.
o Optimised maintenance
• The AURIGA solution can be integrated in the Maintenance Support System (SAM) offered by CAF Signalling, which includes a
complete self-diagnosis and failure detection set of tools.
• For the process of data preparation of the ERTMS systems, CAF Signalling has developed an advanced set of technical tools that
can set the system up to a SIL4 safety integrity level while reducing commissioning and test costs, since most of the tests required
are performed in a laboratory.
OVERVIEW AURIGA OBS is a compact and modular ERTMS/ATO system, optimised and
customised for the operational and commercial needs of our customers.
CAFS tramway solution is a complete tram control system that optimises performance of
Light Rail Vehicles (LRV) operation and provides adequate level of protection and
supervision.
➢ Solutions for both, normal and degraded operation. ➢ Based on the principle of operation On-Sight, where Tram

Functions
o Moviola.
o Real-time alarm management, search of event and alarm log, display of alarm statistics.
o Report generation,
o Exporting reports: active alarms, event list, performed maintenance commands, list of software
versions and configuration of the supervised systems, etc.
o SCOM
Responsible for the acquisition and storage of diagnosis information of the connected signalling
products. The SCOM complies with SIL 2 integrity level according to CENELEC standards andoffers
an optional redundant architecture input/input. SAM and JRU need this equipment at a first
stage to collect data.
These systems receive information of the track systems collected from the SCOM and show the user
o JRU
After receiving the data from the SCOM, this product implements specific functions of juridical
recorder with SIL 2 level according to CENELEC standards.

It is essential to understand the specific requirements of freight lines to design appropriate solutions,
products and functionalities, while ensuring the highest safety levels to avoid goods’ or ecological
damages.
Keeping in mind the needs of the owners and freight line operators, who need safe, fault-free solutions at
a moderate cost in high-performance lines, CAF Signalling has developed a solution based on its ATP
and the adaptation of its interlockings and control centres, so that freight lines can be managed from a
management perspective:
• Sensor control, a key feature in freight lines.
• Signalling and control of lines. • Automatization of depots, patios and unload
• Permanent monitoring of train location. terminals.
• Preventive maintenance management.
