Q:How does Huawei OLT detect GPON line and generate related alarms? 29

A:Huawei OLT GPON related alarm detection standards and comments are as following.
LOS Alarm Follow
1. Full alarm name: Loss of Signal
2. Alarm ID: 0x0001
3. Alarm generation condition: According to the protocol, when the OLT does not receive any expected
upstream forwarding data within the time range of N consecutive frames (the recommended value of N is
4), in the normal operation mode of the upstream channel, the logic detects the lock signal output of the
BCDR at the corresponding time based on the issued BWMAP. If the lock signal is invalid for four Hot Blog & Collect
consecutive frames, the logic reports an LOS alarm. When the feeder fiber connected to a PON port or the
optical fiber connecting the last online ONT and the PON port is removed, the host prints the alarm.
4. Alarm clearance condition: According to the protocol, the alarm can be cleared when the OLT receives at
least one piece of upstream forwarding data. When the feeder fiber connected to a PON port or the optical
fiber connecting the first online ONT and the PON port is inserted, the host prints the alarm clearance
information.
TF Alarm
1. Full alarm name: Transmitter Failure
2. Alarm ID: 0x0002
3. Alarm generation condition: According to the protocol, this alarm is generated when the OLT forwarder,
that is, the optical module, is faulty. (The definition of a fault is that there is no photocurrent or the driver GPON Technology
exceeds the maximum specification.) The alarm has not been generated during tests. This collection describes t
4. Alarm clearance condition: This alarm is not specified in the protocol. It may be generated due to an architecture, working prin
optical module fault. After the optical module is replaced, the alarm can be cleared.
RDIi Alarm
1. Full alarm name: Remote Defect Indication of ONUi
2. Alarm ID: 0x2001
3. Alarm generation condition: According to the protocol, the alarm is generated when the RDI field is
declared (the RDI field is in the Ind field of an upstream frame and occupies 1 bit). This indicates that the
ONUi receives the data packets with bit errors from the OLT and sets the RDI field in the Ind field to 1.
4. Alarm clearance condition: According to the protocol, the alarm can be cleared when the RDI field of the
ONUi is cleared.
LCDGi Alarm
1. Full alarm name: Loss of GEM channel delineation
2. Alarm ID: 0x2002
3. Alarm generation condition: According to the protocol, the alarm is generated when the GEM channel
description is not received for three consecutive frames. The alarm may be generated due to an HEC fault
on the GEM frame header. If the fault persists for three consecutive frames, the alarm is reported.
4. Alarm clearance condition: According to the protocol, the alarm can be cleared when the OLT receives the
GEM channel description from the ONUi.

SDi Alarm
1. Full alarm name: Signal Degraded of ONUi
2. Alarm ID: 0x2003
3. Alarm generation condition: According to the protocol, the alarm is generated when the upstream bit
error ratio (BER) is greater than or equal to 10–x, where x ranges from 4 to 9, and the value of SD5110V200
logic implementation is 9. This alarm is mainly caused by high upstream BER, specifically, mismatch of
optical attenuation and the versions of terminals at the CO. In addition, BIP check errors may be caused by
insufficient logic time sequence due to the environment.
4. Alarm clearance condition: According to the protocol, the alarm can be cleared when the upstream BER of
the ONUi is less than 10–(x + 1).
SFi Alarm
1. Full alarm name: Signal Failure of ONUi
2. Alarm ID: 0x2004
3. Alarm generation condition: According to the protocol, the alarm is generated when the upstream BER is
greater than or equal to 10–y, where y ranges from 3 to 8, and the value of SD5110V200 logic
implementation is 5. This alarm is also mainly caused by high upstream BER. Compared with the SDi alarm,

the BER for generation an SFi alarm is higher. When an SFi alarm is generated, the corresponding ONU goes
offline. Community Forums Groups Blog & Collections Rewards FAQ Top Members Subscribe
4. Alarm clearance condition: According to the protocol, the alarm can be cleared when the upstream BER of
the ONUi is less than 10–(y+1).
DOWi Alarm
1. Full alarm name: Drift of Window of ONUi
2. Alarm ID: 0x2005
3. Alarm generation condition: According to the protocol, the alarm is generated when the upstream frame
received by the OLT deviates from the expected position. DOWi indicates that the phase of ONUi is changed,
but the phase is corrected by EQD modification. The SD5110V200 logic reports this alarm when the phase
deviates by eight bits. You can set the offset to 16 bits by modifying the register to reduce the probability of
reporting the alarm.
4. Alarm clearance condition: According to the protocol, the alarm can be cleared when the OLT receives the
forwarding information from the ONUi in the correct position.
LOFi Alarm
1. Full alarm name: Loss of Frame of ONUi
2. Alarm ID: 0x2006
3. Alarm generation condition: According to the protocol, the alarm is generated when the OLT continuously
receives four upstream frames that contain invalid delimiters from the ONUi. In the normal operation mode
of the upstream channel, the logic searches for the delimiter of the upstream data at the corresponding
time according to the issued BWMAP. If the delimitation fails for four consecutive frames, the logic reports
an LOFi alarm.
4. Alarm clearance condition: According to the protocol, the alarm can be cleared when the frame
description information from the ONUi is received in the operation state.
LOSi Alarm
1. Full alarm name: Loss of Signal for ONUi
2. Alarm ID: 0x2007
3. Alarm generation condition: According to the protocol, the alarm is generated when no expected valid
optical signal is received from ONUi within M consecutive frames. The value of M is configurable and the
recommended value is 4. The difference between LOSi and LOS alarms is that an LOS alarm indicates that
signals from all ONUs in the PON are lost, while an LOSi alarm indicates that the signals from ONUs
connected to a PON port are lost. In addition to the fiber disconnection, the LOS, LOSi, and LOFi alarms may
also be caused by mismatch of optical attenuation or poor line quality. You can determine the causes of the
three alarms by checking the fiber connection status, measuring the optical attenuation, and checking the
line quality.
4. Alarm clearance condition: According to the protocol, the alarm can be cleared when the OLT receives a
valid optical signal from the ONUi.
SUFi Alarm
1. Full alarm name: Start-up Failure of ONUi
2. Alarm ID: 0x2008
3. Alarm generation condition: According to the protocol, the alarm is generated when the ranging fails for
two consecutive times after the OLT receives the optical burst signal from the ONU.
4. Alarm clearance condition: According to the protocol, the alarm can be cleared when the ONU ranging is
successful.
5. The actual alarm reported by the board is as follows:
alarm :0x2008 send to host, opr:0, oltid: 0, onuid: 60
If the value in red is 0, it indicates Start-up Success. If the value is 1, it indicates Start-up Failure.
DFi Alarm
1. Full alarm name: Deactivate Failure of ONUi
2. Alarm ID: 0x2009
3. Alarm generation condition: The alarm is generated when an ONU does not respond properly after
receiving three deactivation ONU ID messages. After receiving the message of deactivating the ONU ID, the
ONU needs to shut down the laser and stop sending upstream data.
4. Alarm clearance condition: According to the protocol, the alarm must be cleared manually. The common
practice is to reset the ONU.
5. Construction method: Disable the CRC of PLOAM messages on the board and perform the Deactivate
operation on the host. The board generates the 0x2009 alarm.
6. Clearance method: Remove and insert the optical fiber again or restart the ONT.
LOAi Alarm
1. Full alarm name: Loss of Acknowledge with ONUi
2. Alarm ID: 0x200a
3. Alarm generation condition: According to the protocol, the alarm is generated when the OLT does not
receive the response packet from the ONUi after sending a downstream message that requires an upstream
response. This indicates that the OMCI message is lost.
4. Alarm clearance condition: According to the protocol, the alarm can be cleared when the OLT receives a
response message from the ONUi.
DGi Alarm
1. Full alarm name: Dying-Gasp of ONUi
2. Alarm ID: 0x200b
3. Alarm generation condition: According to the protocol, the alarm is generated when the OLT receives a
Dying-Gasp message from the ONUi. When the ONU is powered off, the host prints this alarm.
4. Alarm clearance condition: According to the protocol, the alarm can be cleared when the OLT receives a
PLOAM message from the ONUi in the ranging phase. When ONUd is powered on again, the host prints the
alarm clearance information.

2. Alarm ID: 0x200c
3. Alarm generation condition: According to the protocol, the alarm is generated when three consecutive
PLOAM messages are lost after the OLT sends an upstream PLOAM message request to the ONUi.
4. Alarm clearance condition: According to the protocol, the alarm can be cleared when the OLT receives
corresponding requested PLOAM messages in the operation phase.
MEMi Alarm
1. Full alarm name: Message_Error Message from ONUi
2. Alarm ID: 0x200d
3. Alarm generation condition: According to the protocol, the alarm is generated when the OLT receives an
unknown message from the ONUi.
4. Alarm clearance condition: According to the protocol, the alarm can be cleared when the operator knows
the cause of the message.
MISi Alarm
1. Full alarm name: Link Mismatch of ONUi
2. Alarm ID: 0x200e
3. Alarm generation condition: According to the protocol, the alarm is generated when the PON section
trace (PST) messages received and forwarded by the OLT are different.
4. Alarm clearance condition: According to the protocol, the alarm can be cleared when the PST messages
received and forwarded by the OLT are the same.
PEEi Alarm
1. Full alarm name: Physical Equipment Error of ONUi
2. Alarm ID: 0x200f
3. Alarm generation condition: According to the protocol, the alarm is generated when the OLT receives a
physical equipment error (PEE) message from the ONUi.
4. Alarm clearance condition: According to the protocol, the alarm can be cleared when the OLT does not
receive a PEE message from the ONUi within 3s.
