What are codes relating to SOLAS .
There are many codes developed by IMO to address certain
safety issues.
example 1
The FSS Code or International Code for Fire Safety Systems is
a set of international treaties organised by IMO under the
SOLAS Convention (ChapterII) that are designed to reduce
the risk of fire, and aid in emergency response aboard ships.
International shore connection - specifics on how to connect
to shores and ports (to refill, and to fight fires while docked).
Personal protection - Fire fighting apparel and breathing
apparatus.
Extinguishing:
Fire Extinguishers - Specification of portables extinguishers
Fixed gas fire extinguishing systems
Fixed foam fire extinguishing systems
Fixed pressure water and water spraying systems
Auto sprinkler, fire detection and fire alarm systems
Fixed Emergency fire pumps
Fixed deck foam system
Inert gas system
Fire detection and alarm systems
Example 2: LSA Code SOLAS Chapter 3
The International Life-Saving Appliance (LSA) Code.
It provides international requirements for the life-saving
appliances required by chapter III of the 1974 SOLAS
Convention, including personal life-saving appliances like
Lifebuoys, lifejackets, immersion suits, anti-exposure suits
and thermal protective aids;
Visual aids, such as parachute flares, hand flares and buoyant
smoke signals;
Survival craft, such as liferafts and lifeboats; rescue boats;
Launching and embarkation appliances and marine
evacuation systems line throwing appliances; and general
alarm and public address systems.
Example 3 :- IMDG code (SOLAS Chapter Chapter 7)
Example 4 :- International Safety Management (ISM) Code .
The purpose of the ISM Code is to provide an international
standard for the safe management and operation of ships
and for pollution prevention.
Example 5 :- International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes Code
(IMSBC Code).This code replaces the Code of Safe Practice for Solid Bulk
Cargoes (BC Code).
