INTRODUCTION
An observation report written by AKOR PEACE from the
department of Educational Management, faculty of education,
Federal College of Education, Okene in affilation with the
University of Ibadan, Nigeria. This report was written in
fulfillment of the requirement of teacher in training in the
University of Ibadan under the faculty of Education. The
observation was carried out in three school within the nearby
community in FCE Okene, Kogi State
The schools where I carried out the observations are:
1. GOVERNMENT SCIENCE SECONDARY SCHOOL,

OGAMINANA

2. UBE SECONDARY SCHOOL, BESIDE ALWAYS

FILLING STATION.

3. DE-ICON INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, NAGAZI.

This report is basically based on the following sub-heading


as outlined in the professional practice observation record book:
1) Teaching techniques.
2) Interaction with students.
3) Interaction with material.
4) Personal and professional attributes.
5) Suitability and comparability of assessment format.

6) Schools condition in relation to the teaching of the school
subject under review.
7) Suggestion for improving teaching of this subject
PROFESSIONAL TEACHING PRACTICE OBSERVATION
REPORT CARRIED OUT IN THE THREE SCHOOLS
VISITED:
First observation was carried out on 19th and 20th January at

Government Science Secondary School, Ogaminana

which gave me the opportunity to observed Mrs. Obokata Mary

who taught Social Studies in Jss1 at 1st and 2nd period of each day

respectively with the topic “Culture”

My second observation was carried out at Ube Secondary


School, Beside Always Filling Station on 26th & 27th January.
Where I observed Mrs. Yakubu Bilikisu who taught Jss 1 Civic
Education at 3rd and 2nd period of each day respectively with the
topic “Value”.
While my third observation was carried out on 2nd &3rd of

February at De-Icon International School, Nagazi.

Where I observed Mr. Abdulhammed Salami who taught SS2

Government at 2nd and 4th period of each day respectively with the

topic “Franchise”

TEACHING TECHNIQUES
The teachers observed were having a logical and sequential
lesson plans which are written from simply to complex format.
They all showcase their teaching techniques by making used of
different teaching method such as: questioning and demonstration,
inquiry method etc. they also make sure all their students are fully
involved in the teaching and learning process.
INTERACTION WITH STUDENTS
The teacher and the students are having a cordial relationship
which helps in promoting effective teaching and learning in the
classroom. The students were given the opportunity to ask
questions in which the teachers provided the needed answers to
them as this promote the flow of communication between the
teacher and the learner
INTERACTION WITH MATERIALS
Most of the teacher observed makes use of their lesson note
and in some case they make use of the available relevant teaching
aid to promote their teaching. The use of chalk board was
effectively used by the teachers as they make sure that their write
up was clearly written on the board for clear vision of the student.

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL ATTRIBUTES
The teachers were having good communication skills, as
well as clarity of voice which can be clearly heard from every
angle of the classroom. This also aid effective teaching and
learning in the classroom
SUITABILITY AND COMPARABILITY OF ASSESSMENT
FORMAT
After the assessment and the necessary figures has been put
together, I compared both the teaching performance and
interaction assessment then I realize that performance
methodology recorded a high excellent.
SCHOOL CONDITIONS IN RELATION TO THE
TEACHING OF THE SUBJECT UNDER REVIEW
The condition of the school to the learning process was
appropriate for a normal school setting. The location of the school
was situated in a well ventilated location with low rate of
environmental noise.
The class was properly arranged with a large spaced which aid
free movement of both the teacher and the students in the
classroom

SUGGESTION FOR IMPROVING THE TEACHING OF
THE SUBJECT UNDER REVIEW
1. Teachers and students should be taught the skills of
improvisation to get material when the original material is
absent.
2. Students should be encouraged to buy recommended
textbooks and be regular in school.
3. More teachers should be employed in some subject areas
