LESSON PLAN IN GENERAL MATHEMATICS

GRADE: 11 QUARTER: 1 WEEK: 7 DAY: 3

COMPETENCY & Solves logarithmic equations (M11GM-Ih-i-1)
OBJECTIVES :

CONTENT : Solving logarithmic equations

LEARNING SLM Module 7 pages 6-7

RESOURCES
GM LM pages 111-114
:
GM TG pages 133-137

CO_ Q1_ General Mathematics SHS Module 24 pages 11-15

PROCEDURE : A. Preparation

❖ Prayer
❖ Greetings
❖ Checking of Attendance
❖ Checking of Assignment

B. Motivation

In solving logarithmic equations and inequalities, it is important for

students to remember the restrictions on the values of b and x in the
logarithmic expression logb x.

Recall that:

• b can be any positive real number except 1

• x can be any real number

• the entire expression logb x can be any real number (hence, can be
negative).

C. Presentation

Present the learning objective.

Present the guidelines on how to solve logarithmic equations as well as the
properties and laws of logarithm.

Guidelines in solving logarithmic equations:

1. Isolate the logarithmic term on one side of the equation.
2. Write the equation in exponential form.
3. Solve for the variable.
4. Check to make sure you do not have extraneous solutions.
D. Discussion/Abstraction

1.) Solve log2(2x + 1) = 3

SOLUTION

log2( 2x + 1) = 3
2x +1 = 32 Exponential form
2x+ 1 = 8
2x = 8 – 1
2x = 7 Simplify
7
x=2
2.) 4 ln 2x = 12

SOLUTION
ln 2x = 3 divide both sides by 4
e ln 2x = e3 Exponentiate both sides
2x = e3 Inverse Property
𝑒3
x= 2 Divide both sides by 2
x ≈ 10.04277

3. log3 (x + 25) − log3(x − 1) = 3

SOLUTION
log3 (x + 25) − log3(x − 1) = 3

4. 2logx = log 2 + log (3x − 4)

SOLUTION
log x2 = log(2) (3x – 4)
x2 = (2) (3x-4)
x2 = 6x-8
2
x - 6x + 8 = 0
(x – 4) (x – 2) = 0
x = 2, 4
E. Exercises

Find the value of x in the following equations.

1. log3(2x-1) = 2
2. log5 2x + log5(x+ 1) = log5(3x + 10)

F. Generalization
How to rewrite logarithmic equation to exponential form?

What are the basic properties of logarithms?

What are the laws of logarithm?

How will you solve logarithmic equations?

G. Application

A. Use the properties of logarithm to find the value of the following:

B. Use the law of logarithm to expand the following:

C.

H. Evaluation

Find the value of x in the following logarithmic equations.

I. Agreement/Assignment

1. If logb 3 = 0.48, logb 4 = 0.60, and logb 5 = 0.70, find the following

logarithms. First item is done for you.

a. logb 15 = logb (3)(5) = logb 3 + logb 5 = 0.48 + 0.70 = 1.18

b. logb 30
c. logb 45

d. logb 120

e. logb 2.5
