a) Explain five ways in which the speaker and the literary writer perform similar functions.

b) With illustration from a text studied in this course, explain how social factors determine the
writers’ choice of language. (10 marks)
c) Using illustration s from literary text analyse five aspects of form. (10 marks)

There she lay silenced forever


With her beauty crossed
Her eyes forever shut from the world
Soon the ground was to swallow her
