Oversized Hooded Cowl

I am completely in love with anything hooded, especially if that hood is large and drapes at the sides.
While there are plenty of awesome hooded cowls out there, I couldn’t quite find the one. Thus the
oversized hooded cowl was designed. It is made to fit most adults or teenagers. Please read through the
entire pattern before starting, and if you have any problems or questions, I am always happy to answer
them.

Materials:
* super chunky wool ( I used just over 4 balls of Patons super quick, colour 4- 100g balls. It’s a very soft
blend of 70% acrylic and 30% merino wool)

*10mm crochet hook

*needle for weaving in ends

*stitch marker

Abbreviations:
Ch = chain

Dc = double crochet

DC 2 tog = double crochet 2 together

FPCD = front post double crochet

BPDC = back post double crochet

FLO = front loop only

BLO = back loop only

Sl st= slip stitch

Pattern notes:
* The chain does not count as a stitch, so the first stitch of the round will go into same stitch as chain

*slip stitch join at the end of each round goes into the first dc of that round not the chain

*The pattern is worked bottom up. Starting with the cowl, which is worked in joined rounds, then the
hood, which is worked in rows

* I use the invisible finish method to fasten off. Here is an online tutorial that you may find helpful:

* to close up the hood you will use a sc join. Here is an online tutorial that you may find helpful:

*Gauge is not important for this pattern. If you wish to make the cowl bigger or smaller, start with
more/less chains at the beginning. Just make sure you have an even number of stitches. If you want the
hood more or less drapey at the sides, do additional / less rows

Pattern instructions:
Chain 54 and join with a slst

Round 1: dc in the third ch from hook, then in each chain around. join with sl st (52)

Joining the hood sides together:

Turn your work inside out. Hold the two sides of the hood together and line up the stitches. Sc join both
sides of the hood together. You will be left with 1 stitch. You will be left with 1 stitch. Weave your thread
down through it to make sure you aren’t left with a hole.

Hood trim:

Join yarn in first row where the hood divides. Ch 2, dc in the same st, dc along the edge of the hood. You
should have around 50 stitches.
