The speaker also discussed the new Clubhouse of Moraga Country Club. He noted that the Country Club has 520 homeowners and about 420 additional golf, tennis and swim members. There is a tendency to see younger families with children becoming members of Moraga Country Club. The old building was totally out of compliance with modern building and health codes. The attractive new Clubhouse is 22,000 sq. ft. compared to the old 9,000 sq. ft. facility. Many community groups will be using the facility for special events, weddings and other social functions. It was a very informative program as the speaker responded to questions.

OTHER HAPPENINGS
Al Sperske opened the meeting with reference to a very tragic killing in Oakland. President Nora made several announcements: District Assembly in Vallejo to be held on Sat. May 19 and urged members to attend. It is an interesting and fun event. Annual Field Day is set for May 30. Al Simonsen is in charge. An assistant is needed to take over next year. Will someone volunteer? th Rotary at Work Day is scheduled for April 28 . It is suggested that this year trees be planted. Moraga Community Faire will be held in Rheem Center on May 12th. Nora asked for Rotarian Magazines to be distributed at the Rotary tent at the Faire along with popcorn. Frank May made a report on the Nite at the Races. He reviewed the various revenue and expense items. Basically, there was $26,000 in revenue and $10,000 of expenses, resulting in a net income for the Club of about $16,000 for service projects. Cliff Dochterman made a plea to the Club about the critical need for all members to work on inviting prospective members to Moraga Rotary. He expressed a concern that without new members there is a serious possibility that the Club will fall below a critical number to sustain the Club.

**Indicates monthly evening meeting

GUESTS Frank Melon President of Chamber of Commerce and speaker.

THIS WEEKS PROGRAM

Today our speaker was Frank Melon, President of the Moraga Chamber of Commerce and General Manager of Moraga Country Club. The primary purpose of the Chamber of Commerce is to promote business and the community in Moraga and the Lamorinda areas. There are 160 members currently in the Moraga Chamber. There is a need to draw business into town to fill empty store fronts and to keep money in Moraga by meeting the needs of the community. The Chamber is pleased to partner with Rotary on the new employee of the month program. The Chamber also works closely with other community groups, St. Marys College and the Town Council. The Chamber is currently undergoing an evaluation of its programs and operations by an outside rd 3 party.

FUN N STUFF
Tony Schoemehl bid $45 in a very unspirited auction of the fine free hat. He then announced that this is the 45th Anniversary of Libby and Tonys wedding. Obviously some exciting plans are underway! Dave Kruegel had a high five to brag about the NCAA basketball tournament which was won by his alma mater University of Kentucky! Then Gary Irwin had to respond with $10 for the Kansas Jayhawks, which very few had expected to be in the title game. Debbie Roessler had a sheepish happy buck by admitting the lost bid sheets and papers from the Nite at the Races have all this time been in the backseat of her car! She apologized to all those she had blamed for the misplaced papers. When the red ticket was drawn, Al Simonsen had the lucky number but alas, could not find the white marble!

KUDOS OF THE WEEK

A word of congratulations should go to the Odyssey of the Mind teams sponsored by Moraga Rotary. After winning the regional championships, four of the teams took part in the State tournament this past weekend. Two of the four teams won the opportunity to go on to the World finals in Iowa next month. Two of the team members, Sophie and Nicki, won Odyssey of the Mind Scholarships and Nicki won the Orner Award for outstanding enthusiasm and fellowship. Congratulations!

OUR NEW EVENING MEETING

Next week we have the second of our evening meetings so you are urged to invite your spouse or other guests to attend the meeting. The Board of Directors hopes that this once-a-month evening meeting will be helpful to those who find it especially difficult to attend the noon time meeting. It should be a fun and very interesting program. Remember: Tuesday evening at 6:00 pm in the Soda Center! Bring a guest.

EDITORIAL COMMENTS
Are you aware that Moraga Rotary has not selected a President for 2013-14? This task should have been done four months ago according to our Rotary by-laws. This is a very serious issue. Are there some members willing to step up to the plate and take the role of leadership? Over half of our members have already been Club President. However, some Clubs call on past-presidents to take the role of leadership again. And they find it even more fun the second time around. So, who has the interest, ability and commitment to step up? Talk with Frank or Nora.
