Cyberbullying
Laws Philippines
The digital age has presented both
opportunities and challenges in the realm of
free speech and personal reputation. While
social media platforms can be used to spread
awareness about social issues, they can also
be exploited for harmful activities like
cyberbullying. Philippine law addresses this
concern through various statutes, including the
Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 (Republic
Act No. 10175) and the Anti-Photo and Video
Voyeurism Act of 2009 (Republic Act No.
9995).
The Cybercrime Prevention Act includes
provisions that penalize cyberbullying, defined
broadly as acts of using information and
communications technology to intimidate,
harass, or cause emotional distress. The law
covers a wide range of online behaviors, from
posting defamatory statements to uploading
unauthorized photos or videos.
