1.0 INTRODUCTION
The intent of this Construction Work Plan is to present the general sequence of pre-construction and
construction activities which are planned to take place. This plan also summarizes the proposed
methodology for performing various phases of the work. It describes possible equipment and
personnel to be used, general sequencing of the work activities, the use of the site for staging,
stockpiling and other activities, and security.

2.0 SCOPE OF WORKS
The following is the scope of works we intend to cover in the execution of project as described in the bills of
quantities:

2.1 PRELIMINARIES AND GENERAL ITEMS


Upon notification for award, we will proceed with Providing the Performance Security and Insurances for
works. We will the sensitize the community on the works ensuing and identify suitable sites to set up material
sites and camps. We will ensure there is access to the work areas and establish links with the local authorities
to give assurances for security of staff and equipment and materials to be supplied for the works. Then we
will start mobilization of machinery, equipment material and labour/personnel to site. Erection of temporary
camp, supply of power and water for the site use will follow.

The first item to be done will be the erection of Project Sign Board which will be fabricated and installed as
instructed.

Quality Control Plan will be initiated at this stage. All workers will be oriented on the magnitude and
expected outcomes of the project at the initial stage.

2.2 METHODOLOGY FOR REHABILITATION OF SUMP, C O N S T R U C T I O N


O F WATER KIOSK , TANK PLATFORM, AND VALVE CHAMBERS
2.2.1 100M3 SUMP
It will involve the following activities as per the attached program:
 Probing for the sump to identify best position
 River diversion works to allow for sump construction/foundation works
 Excavation for sump foundation-To be accompanied by plunking and strutting to sides of excavations
and keeping area free from water.
 Filling hardcore to make up levels
 FORMWORK
o Formwork to sides of foundations and bed
o Formwork to sides of walls (will be fixed after reinforcement id tied in walls but after casting
of bed concrete)
o Formwork to sides of beams and soffits of top slab(will follow casting of wall concrete)
 REINFORCEMENT
o Reinforcement to sump bed
o Reinforcement to sump wall(Will be done before formwork for ease of tying reinforcement)
o Reinforcement to beams and top sump cover( This will be done after concrete has been cast in
walls)
 MISCELLANEOUS SUMP WORKS
These works will include construction of RC Manhole with cover, installation of a stainless steel
ladder anchored to wall(the provisions for anchoring will be made at concrete casting stage in walls) ,
installation of 110mm GI pipe provisions and installation of infiltration galleries. These works will run
concurrently with the construction of sump.
Infiltration gallaries will follow the following procedure:-
o Excavation for perforated UPVC pipe
o Laying of 200mm UPVC pipe
o Geotextile cloth wrapping to pipe
o Installation of gravel pack around the pipe and backfilling with approved media
2.2.2 WATER KIOSK & GUARD HOUSE
This involves standard methodology for building construction that involve:
o Foundation/sub-structures( Foundation works upto casting of floor bed)
o Concrete work and walling( superstructure works including casting of ring beam and
walling to wall plate to receive roof trusses)
o Roofing and rainwater disposal
o Installation of doors and windows
o Finishes(wall plaster and floor screeding)
o Painting and branding
o Plumbing works
2.2.3 TANK BASE AND VALVE CHAMBER CONSTRUCTION METHODOLOGY
2.2.3.1 Tank Platform
This will involve the following tasks that will be carried out in the following order:-
o Excavation for tank base & foundations
o Foundation walling
o Hardcore filling
o Floor Slab
• Reinforcement
• Formwork
• Concrete
o External Plaster to tank base plinths and faces
2.2.3.2 Construction of Valve Chamber
The construction of valve chambers will follow the following procedure:-
o Site stripping
o Excavation for foundation
o Mass concrete to chamber bed
o 225mm thick dressed quarry stone walling
o Installation of lockable double steel cover to chamber
o External plaster chamber wall

2.3 METHODOLOGY FOR FENCING


This item will follow the following procedure:-

o Bush clearing & excavations of 400mm diameter holes for fencing poles

o Concrete work in erection of rc posts


o Gate works( double leaf 2.25m high anchored on reinforced concrete columns)
o Installation of 6 strands of super high tensile twisted barbed wire
o Fixing chailink

o Anchoring chainlink on ground with concrete

2.4 METHODOLOGY FOR FORMWORK & REINFORCEMENT.

As specified and/or as directed by the engineer, the relevant formwork shall be erected to give the required
finish. BRC wire mesh in bed concrete and re-bars in wall concrete or any other reinforcement shall be used as
specified and to the engineers’ approval.

Cutting and bending of steel reinforcement to approved schedule shall be done at the site and fixed according
to the structural requirements.

Setting for reinforcement shall be inspected by the engineer for conformity with specification and drawing
requirement in readiness for fixing formwork.

2.5 CONCRETE WORKS


Approved concrete materials-coarse and fine aggregate/sand shall be transported to site using trucks and
stored in accordance to the specification and the engineer approval. Concrete shall be mixed on site by use of
a mechanically propelled concrete mixer.

Mixed concrete (by the appropriate ingredient design mix ratio) shall be transported to the placing locations
with hand tools like wheel barrows and concrete dumpers and shall be compacted with a poker vibrator.

Necessary concrete tests as specified and directed by the engineer shall be performed by our laboratory
technicians and samples taken for testing in approved laboratory per the engineer approval.
Curing of concrete shall commence immediately the concrete has hardened. It shall be covered with
woolenmaterials or sand and maintained wet by soaking with water.

All concrete in wet areas shall be fed with strength gain accelerators/additives and will be of good quality
2.6 METHODOLOGY FOR PIPELINE & WATER CONNECTION WORKS
2.6.1 Pipeline and Water Connection Works
 Bush clearing & excavation of trench to 600mm deep pipe invert level
 Laying & butt fusion joining of o/d 100mm pn16 HDPE pipes including all fittings
 Fabrication of 200lts tanks with tap secured with stainless steel square hollow
sections
 Distribution pipelines
o Bush clearing and excavation of pipe trench to invert level average 600mm
depth
o Laying and butt fusion joining of O/D 63mm and O/D 50mm HDPE pipes PN
12.5 FROM Ilumwani distribution tank to Kwa Nthokoi including Gate Valves,
Sluice valves and all fittings
 Construction of 3mx3m guard house
 Erection of an all-in-one solar street light mounted on the solar concrete poles
 Irrigation pipelines
o Bush clearing and excavation of pipe trench to invert level average 600mm
depth
o Laying and butt fusion joining of O/D 75mm and O/D 63mm HDPE pipes PN
12.5 FROM Muangeni treatment including Gate Valves, Sluice valves and all
fittings

2.6.2 Trench Excavation and Backfilling


We shall ensure that all works relating to stripping of surface materials, trench excavation and
storage of excavated materials is appropriate and keep the excavation to the minimum practical so as
to reduce the extent of disturbance. Slopes of excavations shall be formed to avoid the collapse. All
exposed surfaces shall be maintained in a stable condition to avoid erosion of excavated surfaces and
storage areas. Trenches shall be levelled to provide even and continuous support to the pipeline, and
any organic materials, stones, boulders or obstructions shall be removed and disposed. Suitable
excavated material, other than surface materials, if suitable for backfill, shall be stock piled at one
side of the trench and after pipe laying works completed, backfilled to the trench. Pipe will be
covered by soft sand at 200 mm layers to protect the pipe coating from any damage. It shall be
thoroughly compacted by hand rammers.
All crossings shall be installed in accordance with the drawings. Reinforced concrete protective slabs
shall be placed over the pipeline, at service crossings. The concrete slabs shall be a minimum of 150
mm thick and shall extend beyond the pipe, for at least 150 mm on either side.
On completion of backfilling operations, permanent surface warning tiles shall be placed on
thepipelines to indicate their points of intersection with other services. Drainage systems shall be
installed within the construction area if necessary to protect existing waterways and to control storm
water runoff. The systems shall be designed to discharge water to a collecting pits. If required, oil
separator and/or sediment traps shall be installed in the drains, to prevent the contamination of ground
water.

2.6.3 Pipeline Construction


Handling:
Pipe Stringing: Pipes shall be offloaded and strung along the route of the pipeline, not parallel or
perpendicular to trench direction but with some degree’s angle. Pipes and fittings shall not be placed
directly onto the ground. End protection caps shall be retained in position, as long as practicable.
The pipeline shall at all times be kept free of foreign material and water, and when work is not in
progress, the open ends of pipes, fittings and pipeline shall be securely capped.
Pipeline Lowering-in: The pipeline shall be lowered into the trench as soon as possible after the
trench has been excavated.

2.7 INSTALLATION OF PUMP, SOLAR, WATER SUPPLY EQUIPMENT AND CONTROLS

2.7.1. Solar Power and Accessories

o Moving & installation of existing pump & associated electrical and plumbing fittings
o Construction of solar mounting steel structure clamped on concrete poles
o Installation of solar modules to the steel tower
o Excavation for HDPE pipes
o Laying & butt fusion joining of O/D 100mm PN16 HDPE pipes
o Anchoring pipes using 1m x 1m x1m RC blocks

2.7.2 . Solar Pumping System


The pump installed is a submersible water pump installed at the lowest point of the sump, but connected to the
power source including the support rope. Pumping at a constant rate regardless of demand, these system scan
be used to pump to a tank or used direct with a pressure vessel and control panel.

2.7.3 Water Quality:- Flocculation & Chlorination Of Distribution Water


2.7.3.1 Flocculation

Dosing with a flocculants will get rid of solid particles from the water. This exercise will be done at the
testing stage of the water whole system.
2.7.3.2 Chlorination
Addition of chlorine(chlorination ) will also be done at the last testing stage of the system and will kill
parasites, bacteria, and viruses. We will employ different processes to achieve safe levels of chlorine in
the distribution water.
3.0 DIVERSE AND OTHER
3.1 Quality control. Plan
We consider Quality Control as a top priority in the execution of works. The following aspects will be
ensured as part of our Quality Control program: -
 Superintendence Staff: - We will ensure adequate qualified and experienced Engineers are
engaged in the Project from the onset. Such Engineers are readily available from our pool of
staff. The Engineers will fully be supported by an equally qualified technical team [Surveyors,
Foremen, Headmen, Technicians and Draughtsmen etc.] from our pool of staff.
 Materials: - All materials shall be of their respective kinds as described in the contract or
equally approved alternatives.
 We will ensure that, no material will be delivered to the site without being tested and
accompanied by a Compliance Certificate.
 All Quarries and Borrow Pits will have to be approved by the Engineer’s Representative once
identified.
 Sampling from the Quarries and Borrow pits will be done jointly with the Engineer’s team.
 Mix designs for concrete and asphalt concrete will be done and approved by the Engineer
before being incorporated into permanent works.
 Control tests will be carried out as the work progresses to ensure that quality is maintained
through and through.
• Machineries: - We will ensure all the machines allocated to various sections of
works are in good working conditions, properly calibrated and of the right kind for
the activity. Qualified operators will be employed on these machines for the best
result.

3.2 Safety, Health and Environmental Plan


3.2.1 Environmental Awareness:
An induction course will be conducted by the ECO on the construction site at commencement of
works. Environmental awareness training of new and follow up of older staff members as well as
subcontractors will be conducted at regular intervals or as deemed necessary. Emergency procedures
and Fire hazard: There will be two fire extinguishers at the fuel bowser and employees will be
trained how to use them in case of emergency. All fire equipment will be serviced monthly and they
will be checked bi-weekly by the acting fire officer. No open fires will be allowed on site. A water
truck with capacity of 10 000 liters will be on site in case of any fire emergency. The site agent of
the contractor will also act as the environmental officer on behalf of the contractor if a dedicated
person or agent is not appointed. Safety precautions are to be adhered by ensuring that, all plants are
operated by authorized operators. Besides, all workers in the concrete section will be provided with safety
gears including dust masks, hand gloves, gumboots, helmets, goggles and others as applicable.

3.2.2 Health & Safety Policy


Health and Safety are two of our Company’s most important responsibilities and functions and is regarded as
the essential foundation for successful business and social operations.We believe that a superior safety
approach is indicative of assertiveness and responsiveness to employee needs and policies procedures, which
creates higher morale and loyalty amongst employees, leading to enhanced productivity and therefore
enhanced profitability.
This ensures that we sustain our consistency and vision as top achievers in the Construction and development
environment.
Supreme Fortitude Limited has a legal and moral responsibility to safeguard its employees and the general
public, so far as reasonably practical, from injury, annoyance or risk to Health from all processes associated
with all operations and Activities.

Workers Health & Safety: - We don’t take the health and safety of our workers for granted. We take the
following measures to ensure it is maintained: -
1. We provide our site gangs with safety gear such as: Helmets, safety goggles, safety gloves, dust masks,
boots, and safety ropes etc.
2. We train our workers on proper operation of tools and machinery.
3. We restrict operation of machinery only to the qualified workers.
4. Routine examination of tools and scaffolds is carried out to prevent any possible accidents arising from
faulty machines of loose scaffolds.

3.3.3 Occupants’ Safety & Satisfaction


1. We shall use dust screens to prevent dust from spreading all over the place.
2. We shall use scaffolds as shown in the figure below to protect the occupants from falling materials.
3. We shall mark off the areas which un-authorized persons will not be allowed to go to by either hoarding or
using warning tape as may be instructed by the project manager.
4. In order to achieve safe structures, we engage our own experts and work with the consultants appointed by
the client, observe high standard supervision and adhere to the designs and specifications.
We employ highly skilled artisans and craftsmen to ensure high standard of workmanship and the intended
aesthetics is achieved. This makes the structure usable for the intended use.
5. We shall follow the Project engineer’s instructions on how to carry out these works as well as the
specifications and drawings. In addition, we shall follow all the laid down procedures and regulations
pertaining to construction
6. All concrete works and masonry & plaster works will be cured thoroughly either by surface flooding or
covering as necessary.
3.3.4 Sediment and Erosion Control:
No sediment will be able to enter the stream as the newly constructed pan wall will act as a buffer to
contain sediment from the construction area. Topsoil from temporary stockpiles will be used to
cover exposed areas to encourage the fast growth of vegetation to prevent unnecessary erosion.

3.3.5 Storm Water Management:


Existing storm water ditches will be maintained in order to let water flow freely to the river without
eroding the soil. Existing drainage furrows will be maintained and kept clean at all times in order to
prevent rainwater from scouring and eroding surrounding areas and sedimenting the stream.

3.3.6 Dust and Noise Control;


Working hours will be from 7am till 6pm during weekdays, plant will be equipped with standard
factory fitted silencer systems. Dust will be controlled by watering dusty areas with water truck.
3.3.7 Contaminated Water Control:
Discharges such as cement, lubricants, fuels, etc, will be minimized in accordance with the EMP.
3.3.8 No Go Areas:
All activities will be limited to the agreed and dedicated construction areas.

4.0 DEMOBILIZATION.
Once the pan is substantially complete, we will clear the camp and leave the campsite in a good state. We
shall retain skeleton staff to carry out routine maintenance and remedy any defects on the pan during the
Defects Liability Period.
