From Limitations to Opportunities: Ebenezer Adekunle’s Journey to a Cybersecurity
Future
In today’s digital age, cybersecurity has become not only a necessity but a critical field that holds the
future of our interconnected world. As a young Nigerian passionate about technology, I, Ebenezer
Adekunle, have long dreamed of becoming a cybersecurity expert—someone who protects data,
systems, and people from the rising tide of cyber threats. But despite my deep interest and
commitment, one persistent challenge has stood in my way: finances. The opportunity to earn a
scholarship from AltSchool Africa represents far more than educational support—it represents the key
to unlocking my future.
Growing up in Nigeria, I was always fascinated by how technology works. As I gained access to the
internet, I became more aware of the growing threats to digital systems—viruses, hacks, data breaches
—and I realized that cybersecurity was not just a technical field, but a crucial defense for our
increasingly digital society. It became clear to me that I wanted to be part of that defense.
However, access to quality education in Nigeria, especially in tech fields like cybersecurity, often
comes with a price tag that many families simply cannot afford. Coming from a modest background, I
have had to make difficult choices: working small jobs to support myself and my family, often at the
expense of pursuing formal education or upskilling opportunities. Despite my efforts, affording a
structured, industry-standard program like AltSchool’s Cybersecurity track has remained out of reach
—until now.
AltSchool Africa stands out to me because it offers more than just theory—it provides mentorship,
real-world application, and community. It is tailored to help African students, like me, not only learn
but thrive in global tech spaces. The cybersecurity curriculum, especially, is exactly what I need to
transition from an aspiring learner to a skilled professional. A scholarship would lift the heavy
financial burden and allow me to focus fully on learning, growing, and contributing.
This scholarship would not only change my life, it would empower me to uplift others. I strongly
believe in the spirit of the community. Nigeria is filled with talented, driven youth who, like me, lack
access to opportunities. Once trained, I plan to share my knowledge through mentorship, local
workshops, and collaboration with youth and schools to promote digital safety and awareness. In a
country increasingly dependent on digital infrastructure, the need for locally trained cybersecurity
professionals cannot be overstated.
Moreover, I aim to specialize in areas such as ethical hacking and systems defense, and eventually
contribute to the protection of local businesses, startups, and educational institutions that are
vulnerable to cyberattacks. With proper training and exposure, I am confident that I can play an
important role in building Nigeria’s and the world at large digital resilience.
In conclusion, while I may not have the financial strength to fund my education at AltSchool Africa, I
possess the drive, discipline, and determination to succeed. A scholarship would not just be a gift—it
would be an investment in a young Nigerian who is ready to work hard, make a difference, and pay it
forward. I am not just asking for help; I am asking for a chance—a chance to prove that with the right
opportunity, Nigerian youth can compete, contribute, and lead in the global tech space.
Thank you for considering my story. I hope to be among the many empowered by AltSchool to turn
dreams into reality and limitations into lifelong impact.
Best regards.
