Lesson Plan – Class 6 Social Science

Chapter 1: Family and Community

General Objectives:
- Students will understand the roles of family and community in social life.
- Students will recognize the importance of cooperation and responsibilities within a
community.
- Students will develop respect for all types of families and cultures.

Specific Objectives:
- Students will define family and community.
- Students will describe the types of families and community structures.
- Students will analyze how families and communities support individuals.

Day-wise Breakdown:

Day 1: Introduction
Introductory Questions:
- Who are the people you live with and depend on?
- What happens when neighbors help each other?

Activity:
Students will watch a short video on types of families and community interactions using a
smartboard.

ICT Integration: Educational video (e.g., “Importance of Community”)


NEP 2020 Link: Promotes experiential and inclusive learning.

Days 2–5: Main Content Delivery


- Teacher will explain nuclear, joint, and extended families.
- Students will identify their family type and share one responsibility they perform.
- Teacher will introduce the idea of interdependence within communities.
- Students will role-play different community helpers and their duties.
- Class will discuss the role of values like cooperation, empathy, and equality in a
family/community setting.

Activity:
Students will create a 'Family & Community Tree'.

Day 6: Reflection and Discussion

- Students will differentiate between local, state, and central government.
- Students will identify key government functions and services.

Day-wise Breakdown:

Day 1: Introduction
Introductory Questions:
- Who decides rules at school? Who decides rules in the country?
- What happens if there are no rules or laws?

Activity:
Students will watch a video clip titled 'How Our Government Works'.

ICT Integration: Animated civic education video.

Days 2–5: Main Content Delivery


- Teacher will introduce the three levels of government using flowcharts.
- Students will categorize services provided by each level.
- Teacher will explain roles of leaders (MLA, MP, Sarpanch).
