POST-1
• Why is it important to learn the method of the Prophet's ‫ ﷺ‬prayer (Namaz
e Nabwi)?
The Importance of Salah:
On the Day of Judgment, the first thing from the deeds that people will be
accounted for is their prayer (Salah)!
[Sunan Abu Dawud 864]
The covenant that differentiates us from them (the disbelievers) is prayer;
whoever abandons it has committed disbelief.
[Sunan Ibn Majah 1079, Sunan Tirmizi 2621]

There are many other ahadith from which we understand the significance of
Salah. Now let’s learn why it is important to know the method of the Prophet’s ‫ﷺ‬
prayer (Namaz e Nabwi)!

• Why is it important to know the method of the Prophet’s ‫ ﷺ‬prayer (Namaz

e Nabwi)?
The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said:
“Pray as you have seen me praying.”
[Sahih Al Bukhari 631]
This hadith clearly commands us that our prayer must be like the prayer of the
Messenger of Allah ‫ﷺ‬, not like any imam or spiritual leader... In the sight of Allah,
only that prayer will be accepted which is in accordance with the Prophet's ‫ﷺ‬
method (Namaz e Nabwi)!
Our deeds must comply with the commands of Allah and His Messenger ‫ﷺ‬.
Here are some proofs regarding this:

1
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

Proof from the Qur'an:

َۡ‫س ۡو ََل َو ََل ت ُ ۡب ِطلُ ٰۡۤوا اَ ۡع َمالَـكُم‬ ََ ‫ٰۤياَيُّ َها الَّذ ِۡي‬
َٰ ‫ن ا َمنُ ٰۡۤوا اَ ِط ۡيعُوا‬
َّ ‫ّللاَ َواَ ِط ۡيعُوا‬
ُ ‫الر‬
O you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger, and do not render your
deeds worthless.
[Surah Muhammad, Ayat 33]
Proof from the Hadith:
“Whoever does an action that we have not commanded, it will be rejected by
Allah.”
[Hadith 5, 40 Hadith an-Nawawi]

From many other proofs, we come to know that any deed in religion must be
in accordance with the Qur'an and Sunnah (i.e., the commands of Allah and His
Messenger ‫)ﷺ‬. Any action not in line with Allah's and the Prophet's ‫ ﷺ‬commands
will be rejected (take note of this)!

The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬commanded us to pray as he prayed, so we must ensure that

we know the method of the Prophet's ‫ ﷺ‬prayer so that we can offer our Salah
according to the Sunnah, In Sha Allah. And whatever action (or movement) that is
not in accordance with the Sunnah should be abandoned (i.e., anything not proven
from the Sunnah and newly invented innovations should be avoided in Salah, In
Sha Allah).

Therefore, it is important for us to learn Namaz e Nabwi ‫ﷺ‬. The closer our
prayer is to the Sunnah, the more correct it will be.

NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

POST-2
WOMAN'S PRAYER
• Is there a difference between men's and women's prayers...?
The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said:

َ ُ ‫صلُّوا َك َما َرأَ ْيت ُ ُمونِي أ‬

‫ص ِلي‬ َ ‫َو‬
Pray as you have seen me pray.
[Sahih Al Bukhari 631]
The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬has clearly stated in plain words that prayer must be
performed exactly as he ‫ ﷺ‬prayed. In this hadith, no specific command was given
to men separately. This instruction applies to all believers.
However, in our society, some people believe that the method of prayer for
women is different. They think that women's prayers should not be like men's, and
if women pray like men, it will create a temptation (fitnah) for men. Therefore,
women should pray in a more restricted manner.
• Where is the evidence for this belief that we are following? Can your or my
Mufti's or Imam's fatwa be above the command of the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬...?
As for the argument that a woman not praying in a restrained manner would
create distraction (fitnah), can anyone explain whether men pray at home so that
this would create any fitnah for them...? And if, due to necessity, they are praying
at home, are they standing next to or behind the woman so that she becomes a
source of fitnah during prayer...? Men stand in front while praying.
In this case, women pray in a restrained manner, placing their elbows on the
ground. However, in one hadith, the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬clearly forbade placing elbows on
the ground during prostration:
"Perform prostration properly and do not spread your arms flat on the
ground like a dog."
[Sahih al-Bukhari 532]
The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬fulfilled his duty by conveying Allah's commands to us.
3
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said:

"It is better for a woman to pray in her home rather than in her courtyard,
and it is better for her to pray in her private room rather than in her home."
[Sunan Abi Dawud 570]
In this hadith, the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬mentioned that it is better for women to pray
at home. Did the same Prophet forget to mention that women's prayers are
different? (Na'oozubillah)

Allah says in the Qur'an

َۡ‫َاَ ۡل َي ۡو ََم اَ ۡك َم ۡلتَُ لَـكُمَۡ د ِۡينَكُم‬

Today I have perfected for you your religion.
[Surah Maidah, Ayah][5:3]
Islam is a complete and perfect religion. There is no need for us to add
anything to it, nor to use our intellect to alter it. We simply need to follow the
commands of Allah and His Messenger.
We do not find any evidence from the Qur'an or Sunnah that women's prayer
is different. The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬did not give such instructions to any of the female
companions. None of the female companions in the time of the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬prayed in
a different manner. We should avoid practicing a type of prayer that has no basis in
Shariah.
There are many hadiths that explain the correct method of the Prophet's ‫ﷺ‬
prayer. We should learn that method and correct our prayers accordingly.

POST-3
• How to Respond to the Azan?
The correct way to respond to the Azan is to repeat each phrase of the Azan,
except for ‫( حي على الصلة‬Hayya ‘alas-salah) and ‫( حيَّ على الفلح‬Hayya ‘alal-falah). In
َِّ ٰ ‫ل قُوَّة َ ِإلَّ ِب‬
response to these two phrases, say ‫ٱلِل‬ َّ َ ‫( َلَّ َح ْو َلَّ َو‬Laa Hawla wa laa Quwwata
illa billah).
And during the Fajr Azan, when the phrase ‫( الصلة خير من النوم‬Assalatu Khairum
Minan Naum) is recited, you should simply repeat it.
Virtue of Responding to the Azan
The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said, "Whoever responds to the words of the
Mu’azzin (the one who calls to prayer) sincerely from the heart, will enter Paradise
(by the blessing of this response)."
[Sahih Muslim 385]
Azkar After Azan
Reciting Durood after the Azan

ََ‫َ إِنَّك‬،‫علَى آ َِل إِ ْب َرا ِهي َم‬

Allaahumma baarik ‘alaa Muhammadin wa ‘alaa ‘aali Muhammad; kamaa baarakta
‘alaa ‘Ibraaheema wa ‘alaa ‘aali ‘Ibraaheem, ‘innaka Hameedun Majeed.
The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said:
"When you hear the call of the Mu’azzin, respond to him, and when the Azan
is finished, send blessings upon me. For whoever sends blessings upon me once,
Allah will send blessings upon him ten times."
[Sahih Muslim 384]

AZKAR AFTER THE AZAN

Dua 1:
Allahumma Rabba hazid-da'watit-taammati was-salatil qaimati aati Muhammadan
al waseelata wal fazeelata wab'ash-hu maqaaman mahmoodallazi wa 'ad-tahu
Virtue of This Dua:
Reciting this dua after the Azan ensures the intercession of the Messenger of Allah
‫ ﷺ‬becomes obligatory on the Day of Judgment. [Sahih Al Bukhari 614]

Dua 2:

Ashhadu Allah ilaha wahdahu laa shareeka lah wa anna Muhammadan Abduhu wa
rasuluh, razeetubillahi Rabba wa bi muhammadin rasoola wa bil islami deena

Virtue of This Dua:

Forgiveness of sins
[Sunan an-Nasa'i 679]
Additional Points About the Azan

• There is no authentic hadith that proves a specific dua before the Azan, so
there should be no dua before the Azan.
• In the first dua mentioned above, some additional words have been added by
people; it is important to avoid this and recite only what has been
authentically narrated in the hadith without any additions. [The picture
below explains which words have been added].
• In our society, it is common for women to cover their heads during the Azan.
This practice has no proven virtue.

NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

POST-4
WUDU(ABLUTION)
The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said:
Indeed, Allah does not accept the prayer of any of you when he is in a state of
impurity until he performs Wudu.
[Bukhari 135, Muslim 330]
THE PRESCRIBED WAY OF WUDU
1. Make the intention for Wudu
“All actions are based on intentions.”
[Sahih Bukhari 1]
It is not proven to verbalize the intention as neither the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬nor the
companions did so. Hence, make the intention in the heart; verbalizing it is not
proven.
2. Say Bismillah (In the name of Allah)
The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said:
Whoever does not mention the name of Allah during Wudu, his Wudu is not valid.
[Abu Dawud 101, Ibn Majah 399]
3. Wash both hands up to the wrists three (3) times
[Sahih Bukhari 1910, Sahih Muslim 235]
Ensure to clean between the fingers.
4. Take a handful of water, use half to rinse the mouth and the other half to
clean the nose (repeat this 3 times)
“And then he (the Prophet ‫ )ﷺ‬took a handful of water and rinsed his mouth and
cleaned his nose, and he did this three (3) times.”
[Sahih al-Bukhari 191]

7
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

5. Wash the face three (3) times

“And then he washed his face three (3) times.”
[Sahih Muslim 236]
Make sure to clean the entire face properly, from ear to ear and from the start of
the forehead to the bottom of the chin.
6. Take a handful of water and pass it under the chin to clean the beard
[Jami` at-Tirmidhi 29]
7. Wash the right arm up to the elbow three (3) times and then the left arm
three (3) times up to the elbow
“Then he washed both hands from the fingertips to the elbows three (3) times
each, starting with the right arm and then the left.”
[Sahih Bukhari 185, Sahih Muslim 235]
8. Wipe the head once, wetting the hands and starting from the front of the
head to the back (nape) and returning to the front
[Sahih Bukhari 185, Sahih Muslim 235]

9. Wipe the ears once as well, using the index finger for the inside of the ears
and the thumb for the outside
[Ibn Majah 439, Tirmidhi 361]
10. Finally, wash both feet up to the ankles three (3) times, starting with
the right foot and then the left
[Sahih Bukhari 1934, Sahih Muslim 236]

8
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

While washing the feet, use the little finger of your hand to clean between the
toes.
[Sunan Abi Dawud 148]

This is the correct and Sunnah way to perform ablution!

9
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

POST-5
In the last post, we mentioned the way to wash the mouth and nose during
wudu, which is the proven method from Rasulullah ‫ﷺ‬. It is valid to wash the
mouth and nose separately as reported from the Sahabah, but the best practice is
to follow the Sunnah of Rasulullah ‫ﷺ‬. This is the true Sunnah. However, this
Sunnah is rarely observed. We should strive to revive and practice this forgotten
Sunnah of Rasulullah ‫ﷺ‬, as it is the most virtuous.

Washing the limbs of wudu more than three (3) times is sinful!
Rasulullah ‫ ﷺ‬said:
“Whoever exceeds (washing) more than this has done wrong, overstepped the
bounds, and acted unjustly.”
[Ibn Majah 422, Nasai 2/3180]
Virtues of Wudu:
• The believer’s adornment in Paradise will reach the places where the water
of wudu touches on their body.
[Riyad as-Salihin 1025]
• Whoever performs wudu in the best manner (i.e., according to the Sunnah),
their sins will come out of their body, even from beneath their nails.
[Riyad as-Salihin 1026]
[There are many more virtues of wudu mentioned in the Hadiths]

DUAS AFTER WUDU:

1.
10
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

Virtue:
Whoever performs wudu and does it well, and then recites [ the above dua ], the
eight gates of Paradise will be opened for them, and they may enter through
whichever they wish.
2.
‫وأتوبَإليك‬
َُ َ‫أستغفرك‬
ُ َََ‫سبحانَكَاللهمَوبحمدِكَلَإلهَََإلَأنت‬
Subhanak Allahumma wa bihamdika la ilaha illa anta, astaghfiruka wa atubu ilaik
Virtue:
Whoever performs wudu and then recites [the above dua], these words are written
down and sealed on a document that will not be broken until the Day of Judgment.
[As-Silsilah as-Sahihah 2651]
3.

Allahumma j`alni mina-tawwabeen wa j`alni minal-mutatahhirin.
Translation:
“O Allah! Make me among those who repent and purify themselves.”

11
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

POST-6
Things that Nullify Wudu (Ablution):
• Passing urine, stool, and wind.
[Sahih Bukhari 135]
• Deep sleep.
Drowsiness does not nullify wudu.
[Abu Dawud 203]
• Touching the private parts without any barrier (with the hand).
[Sunan Abi Dawud 181]
• Emission of Mazi (pre-ejaculatory fluid) [Mazi refers to the sticky fluid that
comes out from the private part during moments of desire]

Innovations in Wudu and Actions Without Authentic Proof:

• Adding the words "Ar Rahman nir Raheem" when saying "Bismillah" before
starting wudu is not proven from the Sunnah.
• Wiping the neck during wudu is a widespread practice in our society but has
no basis in the Sunnah. Avoid this innovation.
• The narration stating the virtue of reciting Ayat al-Kursi after wudu to elevate
70 levels is weak. Therefore, avoid this practice.
• Taking separate water for wiping the ears is not proven.
• Looking up to the sky and pointing with the finger after wudu is not proven
by any authentic hadith, so scholars consider it an innovation.
• There are no specific supplications assigned to each body part during wudu
according to the teachings of the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬.
• There is no evidence for repeating wudu for additional reward while already
in a state of ablution.

12
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

• Wudu is not nullified by blood coming out, vomiting, or excessive laughter, as

there is no authentic hadith supporting this. Hence, wudu remains intact in
these cases.
Avoid all these practices as they are not proven from the Sunnah!

Clothing for Prayer:

• None of you should pray in such a garment that does not cover his shoulders.
[Sahih Bukhari 359]
• A person who prays in one garment should place the ends of the garment
over the opposite shoulder.
[Sahih Bukhari 360]
• Allah does not accept the prayer of an adult woman without a head covering.
[Sunan Abu Dawood 641]
It is necessary for a woman to cover her entire body except for her face and
hands.

Alhamdulillah, this concludes the essential points related to wudu. Next, we

will start with the method of performing Salah, In Sha Allah.

13
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

POST-7
GHUSL
For Salah, the ghusl (ritual purification) suffices for wudu (ablution), and there is no
need to make separate wudu, as long as the wudu remains intact!
[Sunan Abu Dawood 250]
Note: After making wudu during ritual purification (ghusl) the person can perform
salah until he doesn't touch his private parts directly with his hands, as we learnt
perviously, touching private parts breaks the wuzu. In such case, wudu must be
renewed to perform salah

It is necessary for us to know the correct method of performing ghusl !

Correct way to perform Ghusl:

• Intend to perform Ghusl
[Sahih Bukhari 1]
Intention is required for any action.

• Recite "Bismillah"
• Wash your hands thoroughly up to the wrists three times.
• Clean your private parts with the left hand, and then wash that hand as well.
[Sahih al-Bukhari 257]
(It is necessary to cleanse the private parts after janabah (major ritual impurity),
menstruation, or postnatal bleeding.)
• Perform wudu as described, except for washing the feet.
[Sahih Bukhari 248]

14
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

• After wetting your fingers, pass them through your hair and pour water over
your head three times.
[Sahih Bukhari 254]
• Pour water over the entire body.
[Sahih Bukhari 257]
• Finally, wash your feet.
[Sahih Bukhari 257]
This is the correct way to perform Ghusl!

WOMAN WITH THE CONDITION OF ISTIHAZAH

Istehaza: Istehaza is a condition where a woman experiences bleeding from her

private parts outside of her menstrual cycle, which is neither menstrual blood nor
postnatal bleeding (nifaas). It is usually light or yellowish in color and occurs after
the menstrual days. This is considered an illness.

In this condition, after the menstrual days end, the woman must perform ghusl and
then offer prayers (Namaz).

A woman with istihaazah must perform a new wudu for each prayer, even if her
previous wudu is still intact. Performing a new wudu is necessary to offer Namaz.

It is also recommended (mustahabb) for a woman suffering from istihaazah to

perform ghusl for Zuhr and Asr prayers, a separate ghusl for Maghrib and Isha
prayers, and another for Fajr.

15
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

POST-8
Preparing for Namaz:
➢ Face the Qiblah (direction of the Kaaba in Makkah).
➢ Make the intention (niyyah) for Namaz.
Niyyah is a condition for the validity of Namaz. Without it, the prayer is not valid!

Making Niyyah for Namaz:

Making an intention is necessary for any act of worship.
[Sahih Bukhari 1]
In our society, it is common to make niyyah verbally, such as:
"I intend to pray so-and-so prayer with so many rakats, facing the Qiblah..."
[Making niyyah in this verbal form is not proven and is a bid'ah (innovation).]
Niyyah is related to the heart. Therefore, there is no need to utter it verbally.
Making niyyah verbally is neither proven from the Sunnah of Rasulullah ‫ ﷺ‬nor
from the actions of the Sahabah (companions).

How to Make Niyyah for Namaz?

• While performing wudu (ablution), have the intention in your heart that you
are performing wudu to present yourself before Allah in prayer.
• Then, when you start praying, have the intention in your heart (for the
specific prayer you intend to perform) that you are fulfilling the command of
Allah and seeking only His pleasure.
This is the correct and proper way to make niyyah for Namaz. Verbal niyyah is a
bid'ah, so avoid it.

POST-9

Now, we will learn about the importance of straightening the rows in Salah. For
Salah to be valid, it is very important that the rows are straightened properly. The
Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬repeatedly and firmly instructed his companions regarding this matter.
In Sha Allah, we will discuss this in detail.

Straightening the Rows:

Straightening the rows is an essential part of establishing Salah correctly.

The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said:

“Straighten your rows, for straightening the rows is part of perfecting the Salah.”
[Sahih al-Bukhari 723]

In another hadith, the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said:

“Straighten your rows, or Allah will create discord among you.”
[Riyad as-Salihin 160]
Hazrat Bara bin Azib (RA) narrated that the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬would come into the rows,
straighten our chests and shoulders, and say:
"Do not be uneven (in your rows), or your hearts will become disunited."
[Riyad as-Salihin 1090]
Straightening the rows is extremely important. After the Iqamah is called, the rows
should be straight and aligned before the Imam begins the Takbeer e Ula.
The Arrangement of the Rows:
The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said:
“Straighten your rows, for I can see you even from behind me.”
17
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

Anas (RA) said:

"Each of us would align his shoulder with his companion’s shoulder and his foot
with his companion’s foot."
[Sahih al-Bukhari 725]
The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said:
“Align your rows and keep them close together. By the One in whose hand is my
soul, I see Shaytan entering through the gaps in the rows like a black lamb.”
[Sunan an-Nasa'i 815]
The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬also said:
“Establish the rows, align the shoulders, fill the gaps, be gentle with your
brothers, and do not leave spaces for Shaytan. Whoever aligns the rows, Allah
will bring him closer (to His mercy).”

All these hadiths highlight the importance of straightening the rows in Salah!

The Method of Straightening the Rows:

The congregation should stand close to one another in the rows, aligning feet
to feet and shoulders to shoulders, with their necks in alignment. No one should
stand ahead or behind, nor should there be any gaps left in between. The distance
between one row and the next should not be too large.

Common Issues Regarding Straightening the Rows:

Some people dislike aligning feet to feet and shoulders to shoulders.
There is a misconception that there should only be a four-finger gap between
one’s feet
This is incorrect as no authentic hadith supports such a method. This makes it
difficult to align feet and shoulders properly.

18
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

Therefore, avoid this and follow the Sunnah!

NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

POST-10
Takbeer e Tahreema:
Takbeer means glorifying Allah (saying Allahu Akbar).

After making the niyyat (intention) for salah, we start the prayer by saying the
first Takbeer (Allahu Akbar), and while saying it, we raise our hands (Raful Yadein).

This first Takbeer is called Takbeer e Tahreema because, upon saying it, we
enter into the state of salah, and all things that were previously halal for us (such
as eating, drinking, sleeping, talking, etc.) become haram until we are in the prayer.

To perform Takbeer e Tahreema, say "Allahu Akbar" and raise both hands up to
shoulder level while saying it.
[Bukhari 738]

Raising the hands up to the level of the ears is also proven.

[Muslim 391]

Innovation (Bid’ah):
There is no evidence to touch the ears while raising the hands during Raful
Yadein. Touching the ears is an innovation (biddat).

20
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

POST-11
• What is Raful Yadein?
In Arabic, ‫( رفع‬raf’a) means to raise, and ‫( اليدين‬al-yadain) means both hands.
Thus, Raful Yadein (‫ )رفع اليدين‬means raising both hands.
In Salah (prayer), raising both hands while saying the Takbeer is referred to as
Raful Yadein.
Method of Raful Yadein:
1. Fingers should be in their natural state:
The fingers should neither be too widely spread apart nor completely closed
together.
[Abu Dawood 753]
2. Raise the hands up to the shoulders
[Sahih Bukhari 738]
3. Raising the hands to the ears is also proven
[Sahih Muslim 391]
When is Raful Yadein proven in Salah?
Performing Raful Yadein at these 4 instances in Salah is proven through authentic
Ahadith:
1. At the beginning of Salah (Takbeer-e-Tahreema)
[Sahih al-Bukhari 739]
2. Before going into Ruku (bowing)
[Sahih al-Bukhari 736]
3. After rising from Ruku
[Sahih Muslim 390]
4. At the start of the third Rak’ah (after the first Tashahhud)

21
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

[Sahih Muslim 392]

(There are many other authentic narrations, but it is not possible to mention all of
them here.)
Regarding those who abandon Raful Yadein:
Some people only perform Raful Yadein during Takbeer-e-Tahreema, but not
at the other three proven instances.
Performing Raful Yadein at all these instances is proven from authentic
Sunnah and several Ahadith.
• The narrations cited to justify abandoning Raful Yadein are weak (Dha’eef)
• Authentic narrations confirm that this act remained part of the Prophet’s ‫ﷺ‬
practice until his final days, and it was also narrated by several Sahabah after
his ‫ ﷺ‬passing.
[Bukhari 737, 739; Tirmidhi 304; Abu Dawood 730]
Avoid Innovations (Bid’ah)!
1. There is no evidence for touching the ears during Raful Yadein:
Touching the ears with the hands is an innovation (Bid’ah).
2. Regarding different methods for men and women:
Some people claim that men should raise their hands to their ears, while women
should only raise them to their shoulders or chest.
There is no evidence for such distinctions from Rasulullah ‫ﷺ‬.
The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said:
"Pray as you have seen me praying."
[Sahih Bukhari 631]
Conclusion:
Raful Yadein is a Sunnah, and it is essential to follow the method of the
Prophet ‫ﷺ‬. The more a prayer aligns with the Sunnah, the more valid and
acceptable it will be.
22
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

POST-12
The claim that Raful Yadain has been abrogated is baseless from multiple
perspectives.

Some people claim that the practice of Raful Yadain (raising the hands during
Salah) has been abrogated. However, this assertion is not supported by any
authentic evidence. Below are some clear proofs to refute this claim:

1. The Companions’ Practice in the Final Years of the Prophet’s Life

The Companions reported the practice of Raful Yadain during the final years of
the Prophet’s ‫ ﷺ‬life (9th and 10th year of Hijri).
[Sahih Muslim 401]
2. Continued Practice After the Prophet’s Passing
The Companions continued the practice of Raful Yadain even after the Prophet’s
‫ ﷺ‬passing.
[Sahih Bukhari 737] [Sahih Bukhari 739]

Misinterpretation of the Hadith of Jabir bin Samurah

Some people present the narration of Jabir bin Samurah recorded in Sahih
Muslim as evidence against Raful Yadain. The narration states:
"Why do I see you raising your hands in prayer as if they were the tails of
restless horses? Maintain calmness and tranquility in your prayer."

However, this narration does not relate to Raful Yadain. Imam Bukhari explains in
Juzz Raful Yadain (p. 36, 37):
Some uninformed individuals misuse this Hadith to argue against Raful
Yadain. However, the mention of raising hands in this narration pertains to the
23
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

movement of hands during Tashahhud or when making gestures while saying

Salam. Anyone with even a basic understanding of knowledge cannot use this
Hadith as evidence against Raful Yadain.
Imam Bukhari’s Statement and Juzz Raful Yadain
Imam Bukhari stated:
"It is not proven from any Companion of the Messenger ‫ ﷺ‬that they
abandoned Raful Yadain, nor is there any narration against Raful Yadain with a
stronger chain of transmission than those supporting it."
[Juzz Raful Yadain 56, Sunan Baithaqi 2/74]
Imam Bukhari wrote "Juzz Raful Yadain fi as-Salah" specifically to establish
Raful Yadain as a Sunnah and to refute the claims of its abrogation. This scholarly
work confirms Raful Yadain as a Sunnah and addresses the misunderstandings and
arguments of those who oppose it. The book contains references to over 100
Ahadith affirming Raful Yadain as a Sunnah.
Conclusion:
These evidences clearly establish that Raful Yadain was practiced by the
Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬even during the last years of his life, and it continued to be practiced by
the Companions and the Salafus-Saliheen after his passing. The claim of its
abrogation is incorrect.
Practicing Raful Yadain is a Sunnah, and adhering to it is necessary to align
our Salah with the Sunnah. The more our prayer conforms to the Sunnah, the more
correct and accepted it will be.

POST-13
The Method of Placing Hands on the Chest and Its Evidence

1. The Mention of Placing Hands on the Chest

"Then he (the worshipper) should place his right hand over his left hand and
position them on his chest."
[Ibn Khuzaymah: 479, Musnad Ahmad: 5/226]

Hazrat Sahl bin Sa'd (RA) narrated:

"People were instructed to place their right hand over their left forearm in prayer."
[Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab-ul-Azan 740]
Forearm [Zira] refers to the area from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger.
[Al-Qamoos-ul-Waheed]
By placing the hand on this area, the hands will naturally rest on the chest.

2. The Narration of Hazrat Wa'il bin Hujr (RA)

Hazrat Wa'il bin Hujr (RA) described the Prophet ‫’ﷺ‬s method of prayer:
"The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬placed the back of his right hand on his left wrist, forearm, and
'Sa'd'."
[Sunan Abu Dawood 727, Sunan an-Nasa’i 490]
"Sa'd" refers to the area from the wrist to the elbow.
[Al-Qamoos-ul-Waheed]
3. Imam Albani ‫’رحمه للا‬s Statement
Imam Albani ‫ رحمه هللا‬said:

25
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

"By following this method, the hands will naturally rest on the chest. You can try it
yourself."
[Tahqeeq-ul-Mishkat 1/249]

4. The Statement of Tawoos

Hazrat Tawoos narrated:
"The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬would place his right hand over his left hand, then bind
them firmly on his chest while praying."
[Sunan Abu Dawood: 759, Graded Sahih in Saheeh Abu Dawood 687]
The Authenticity of Placing Hands Below the Navel
Any hadith mentioning placing the hands below the navel is not supported by
a sahih (authentic) chain of narration.
Therefore, acting upon such narrations is not valid.
May Allah grant us the ability to follow the Sunnah and perfect our prayers in
accordance with it.

POST-14
Alhamdulillah, so far, the posts have focused on performing Namaz e Nabwi ‫ ﷺ‬up
to the point of tying the hands. From now, In Sha Allah, we will start learning the
opening supplications (Dua-e-Istiftah)
Dua e Istiftah
The Dua-e-Istiftah is a blessed supplication recited after saying Allahu Akbar
(Takbeer-e-Tahreema) at the beginning of Salah. Its purpose is to turn towards
Allah, purify the heart, and prepare oneself for prayer.

Duas from the Sunnah:

Dua 1:

Ta'awwuz and Tasmiyah:

ّ
After reciting Dua e Istiftah, Ta'awwuz should be recited, which is ‫ٱَلل ِمن‬
ِ ‫أعوذ ِب‬
َّ
َّ ‫ٱلش ۡيط َٰ ن‬
‫يم‬ ‫ج‬
ِ ِ ‫ٱلر‬ (a'oozubillahi minashaitan nirrajeem)
[Surah Nahl, Ayat 98]

It is important to note that Ta'awwuz is only recited in the first rak'ah, as it

has been established from Nabi ‫ﷺ‬.
[Sahih Muslim 941]
[Ibn Majah 806]

َّ ‫ٱلر ْحم َٰ ن‬ َّ
َّ ‫ٱلل َٰ ه‬ ْ
Then, after this, recite Tasmiyah which is ‫يم‬ ‫ح‬
ِ ِ ‫ٱلر‬ ِ ‫( ِبس ِم‬Bismillahir
Rahmanir Raheem) and then begin the recitation of Surah Fatiha.

29
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

POST-16
Recitation of Tasmiyah and Surah Al-Fatiha:
After reciting Dua-e-Istiftah, recite Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem (Tasmiyah),
and then begin the recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha.

In Congregational Prayer:
If the prayer is being offered in the congregation, it is necessary for the Imam to
recite the Tasmiyah softly and then recite Surah Al-Fatiha aloud.
Imam Ibn Taymiyyah ‫للا‬
َّ ‫ رحمہ‬said that there is no authentic narration
indicating that the Imam should recite the Tasmiyah aloud.

Importance of Surah Al-Fatiha:

The meaning of Surah Al-Fatiha is The Opening, as the Qur'an begins with this
Surah. It has several names:
1. Umm al-Kitab (The Mother of the Book)
2. Ash-Shifa (The Cure)
3. As-Salah (The Prayer)

Surah Al-Fatiha is called As-Salah because it is an essential part of the prayer.

Without it, the prayer is not accepted.

The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said:

Whoever does not recite Surah Al-Fatiha in their prayer, their prayer is
incomplete, incomplete, incomplete.
[Sahih Bukhari 756]

30
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

In another Hadith, the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said:

Whoever does not recite Umm al-Qur'an (Surah Al-Fatiha) in their prayers,
they do not receive the reward of performing the prayer.
[Sahih Muslim 394]

He ‫ ﷺ‬also said:
There is no prayer for the one who has not recited Fatihatul Kitab (Surah Al-
Fatiha).
[At-Tirmidhi 247]

Conclusion:
It is clear from this that without the recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha, the prayer is
invalid and unacceptable. It is a condition for the validity of the prayer.

31
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

POST-17
In the previous post, we understood that reciting Surah Fatiha is a condition
for the acceptance of Salah. Without it, Salah is not accepted. Both the Imam and
the followers (Muqtadis) are required to recite Surah Fatiha.

However, some people believe that the Imam's recitation is sufficient, and the
followers do not need to recite it separately. To support their claim, they cite the
following verse:

"And when the Qur'an is recited, listen to it attentively and remain silent so that
you may receive mercy."
[Surah Al-A'raf 7:204]
This verse is presented as evidence that the Imam's recitation suffices, and
the followers only need to listen and remain silent, without reciting Surah Fatiha.
However, in the previous post, we examined authentic Ahadeeth, which
clarified that there is no Salah without reciting Surah Fatiha.
Let us now review the Ahadeeth of Rasulullah ‫ ﷺ‬where he instructed the
Sahabah to recite Surah Fatiha in Salah:

1. Hazrat Ubadah bin Samit (RA) narrates:

"We were praying behind Rasulullah ‫ ﷺ‬during Fajr Salah. The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬began
reciting the Qur'an, but his recitation was interrupted. When the Salah was
completed, he ‫ ﷺ‬asked, 'Perhaps you were reciting behind your Imam?' We said,
'Yes, O Messenger of Allah!' He ‫ ﷺ‬replied:
'Do not recite anything except Surah Fatiha, for the prayer of the one who does
not recite Surah Fatiha is invalid.'
[Sahih Bukhari 756]
32
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

2. Hazrat Abu Hurayrah (RA) was asked:

"We pray behind the Imam; should we still recite Surah Fatiha?"
Hazrat Abu Hurayrah (RA) replied:
"Yes, recite it silently in your heart."
[Abu Dawud 821]
The clear instruction of Rasulullah ‫ﷺ‬:
These and other Ahadeeth make it evident that Rasulullah ‫ ﷺ‬instructed every
worshipper to recite Surah Fatiha in Salah. Whether the worshipper is male or
female, praying alone or in congregation, as an Imam or a follower, the Salah is not
valid without the recitation of Surah Fatiha.

Those who use the verse from Surah Al-A'raf as evidence for not reciting
Surah Fatiha are mistaken. Rasulullah ‫ ﷺ‬never explained the verse in this way. On
the contrary, authentic Ahadeeth affirm the necessity of reciting Surah Fatiha.

Guidance for every worshipper:

➢ Every worshipper must recite Surah Fatiha.
➢ If praying behind an Imam, recite Surah Fatiha silently in your heart –
whether it is a loud prayer (Fajr, Maghrib, Isha) or a silent prayer (Dhuhr, Asr).

relation to Surah Fatiha, alhamdulillah. We will learn more about this, In Sha Allah.

The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said that Allah Ta'ala said:

I divide the prayer into two parts between Me and My servant, and

POST-19
Now, after reciting Surah Fatiha, we will learn about saying Aameen, In Sha Allah.

Saying Aameen After Reciting Surah Fatiha

• When you are praying alone, say Aameen softly.
• When praying behind the Imam in the silent prayers (i.e., Zohar and Asr), say
Aameen softly as well.
• However, when praying behind the Imam in the loud prayers (i.e., Fajr,
َّ َ َ
َ ‫لض ٓا ِّل‬
Maghrib, and Isha), when the Imam says "‫ي‬ ‫"ول ٱ‬, it is recommended for
the followers to say Aameen loudly.

The Imam should also follow the Sunnah by saying Aameen aloud. After the
Imam begins saying Aameen, the followers should also say Aameen.

Abu Huraira (RA) narrates that Rasulullah ‫ ﷺ‬said:

"When the Imam says Aameen, you should all say Aameen, because at that
moment the angels also say Aameen, and the person whose Aameen coincides
with the angels' Aameen, all their past sins are forgiven."
[Sahih Bukhari 6402]
Aisha (RA) narrates that the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said:
"The Jews do not have as much jealousy towards you as they have over
your saying of Salam and Aameen."
[Sunan Ibn Majah 856]

Hazrat Abdullah bin Zubair (RA) and his followers used to say Aameen in such
a loud voice that the mosque would echo.

Alhamdulillah, until the last post, we understood all the essential aspects of
Surah Fatiha. Now, we will learn about the next steps of Salah, In Sha Allah.

After starting the Salah, recite Dua e Istiftah, Ta'awwuz, Tasmiyah, and
Surah Fatiha, followed by saying Aameen.

After this, recite whatever you have memorized from the Qur'an.
[Abu Dawud 818]

Hazrat Umm Salama (RA) narrates:

Rasulullah ‫ ﷺ‬used to pause at each verse of the Qur'an and would not
combine the next verse with the previous one.
[Sunan Abi Dawud 4001]

Abu Huraira (RA) narrates that Allah's Messenger ‫ ﷺ‬said:

"Allah listens more attentively to the voice of a person reciting the Qur'an
in a beautiful manner than to anything else."
[Sahih Bukhari 5023]

Rasulullah ‫ ﷺ‬instructed to recite the Qur'an in a loud voice because reciting

the Qur'an with a beautiful voice enhances its beauty even further.

POST-21
Alhamdulillah, in the previous post, we learned about the Qiyam of the
Prophet Muhammad ‫'ﷺ‬s prayer. In today's post, we will learn about Ruku, In Sha
Allah.
As mentioned in previous posts, Raful Yadein (raising both hands) is done at
four (4) instances during prayer, one of which is before going into Ruku.

How to Perform Ruku:

➢ While going into Ruku, say Allahu Akbar and raise both hands to the level of
the shoulders (or ears).
➢ When the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬would say the Takbeer for Ruku, he would raise his
hands to the level of his shoulders.
[Sahih Bukhari 392]

In the position of Ruku:

• Keep the back (spine) completely straight.
• Keep the head level with the back, neither raised nor lowered.
• Place the palms of both hands on the knees.
[Sahih Bukhari 828]
• Spread the fingers open.
• Stretch the arms (elbows), do not bend them.
• Maintain a distance between the fingers and firmly grasp the knees.
• In Ruku, the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬would place his palms on his knees as if firmly

POST-22
What is Qouma?
Qouma refers to raising one’s head from Ruku and standing straight while
performing Raful Yadain (raising the hands).

Supplications in Qouma
➢ If you are the Imam (or praying individually), you should recite the following
while transitioning from Ruku to Qouma:
• ُ‫ن َح ِمدََّه‬
َّْ ‫للاُ ِل َم‬
َّ ‫س ِم ََّع‬
َ
Sami'allahu liman hamidah
“Allah has heard the one who praised Him.”
➢ If you are a Muqtadi (one praying behind the Imam), you should recite the
following while transitioning from Ruku to Qouma:
َ ‫َربَّنـا َولَكََ ال َح ْمـ َُد َح ْمـدَا ً كَثـيرَا ً َط ِيـبَا ً ُم‬
• ‫ـباركَا ً فيه‬
Rabbana walakal hamd hamdan kaseeran tayyiban mubarakan feeh
“O our Lord! All praise is for You – abundant, pure, and blessed praise.”

There are other supplications for Qouma established in the Sunnah, which can
be learned as needed.

The Method and Importance of Qouma

Many people are unaware of the meaning and importance of Qouma.

Qouma refers to standing still with calmness after Ruku.
The Prophet Muhammad ‫ ﷺ‬would stand still after Ruku and recite the
supplications of Qouma with calmness and composure.

41
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

It is narrated by Hazrat Anas (RA):

"The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬would prolong Qouma so much that an
observer would think that he had forgotten to go into Sujood (prostration)."
[This is an authentic Hadith reported in Bukhari and Muslim]

The Role of Qouma and Calmness in Prayer

From this, we understand that standing calmly after Ruku, before going into
Sujood, is the Sunnah of the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬.
It is also important to note that calmness (tranquility and stillness) is an
essential part of the prayer. Skipping it can result in deficiencies in one’s prayer.

May Allah grant us the ability to perform our prayers with calmness and
humility, Aameen.

42
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

POST-23
In this post, we will learn about the prostration (sajdah), In Sha Allah.

The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said:

"When one of you performs prostration, do not kneel like a camel, but
place your hands before your knees."
[Sunan Abi Dawood 840]
This hadith teaches us that while going into sajdah, one should place their
hands on the ground before their knees. This method is established through various
authentic narrations.

The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said:

"I have been commanded to prostrate on seven bones and to neither tie up
my hair nor tuck up my clothes. The seven bones are: the forehead, the nose,
both hands, both knees, and both feet."
[Sahih Muslim 490e]

The Correct Method of Sajdah:

1. Place the forehead and nose firmly on the ground during sajdah.
[Sahih Muslim 490e]
2. Keep both hands at the level of the shoulders.
[Jami' at-Tirmidhi 270]
3. Keeping the hands at the level of the ears is also permissible.
4. Join the fingers of both hands and direct them towards the Qibla.
[Sunan Abi Dawood 732]
43
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

5. Press the palms and knees firmly against the ground.

[Sahih Muslim 401]
6. The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said: "The prayer of a person is not valid if their nose does
not touch the ground like their forehead”

About the Feet:

1. The toes of both feet should be bent and directed towards the Qibla, with
both feet standing upright.
[Sahih Bukhari 828]
2. Join the heels together.
[Sahih Muslim 486]
The Posture During Sajdah:
1. Keep the chest, stomach, and thighs raised above the ground.
2. Separate the stomach from the thighs and the thighs from the calves.
3. Keep both thighs apart from each other.
[Sunan Abi Dawood 735]
4. Do not rest the elbows on the ground or press them against the sides.
[Sahih Muslim 494]
5. During sajdah, the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬would not rest his elbows on the ground but lift
them and keep them away from his sides to the extent that the whiteness of his
armpits could be seen from behind.
[Sahih Bukhari 390]

44
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

POST-24
In this post, we will learn more about the topic of prostration (sajdah), In Sha
Allah.

The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said:

"Perform your prostration properly and do not lay your forearms flat on the
ground like a dog"
[Sahih al-Bukhari 532]

This hadith clearly shows that laying the forearms flat on the ground during
prostration is prohibited by Rasulullah ‫ﷺ‬. However, in our society, women often lay
their forearms flat on the ground while praying, which is not only incorrect but also
goes against the command of Rasulullah ‫ﷺ‬.
Any action that contradicts the commands of Allah and His Messenger ‫ﷺ‬
will be rejected.
[Sahih Muslim 1718a]

There is no evidence in Shariah to support such a practice. The foundation of

Islam is based on Allah’s Word (the Quran) and the commands of Rasulullah ‫ﷺ‬
(i.e., authentic hadith). There is no valid evidence that women’s way of offering
prayer is different. Despite the clear and authentic narrations, people continue to
follow weak and unreliable narrations, disobeying the explicit commands of
Rasulullah ‫ﷺ‬

We must fear Allah’s accountability, worry about the invalidation of our

prayers, and ensure that our prayers are corrected in accordance with the Sunnah
and commands of Rasulullah ‫ﷺ‬

45
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said:

"The servant is closest to his Lord when he is in prostration. So, supplicate
abundantly in this position."
[Sahih Muslim 482]
Rasulullah ‫ ﷺ‬used to supplicate in prostration with great humility and
sincerity.

Ali ibn Abi Talib (‫ )رض هللا عنه‬narrated:

"The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬prohibited me from reciting the Qur'an during
bowing (rukoo) and prostration (sajdah)"
[Sahih Muslim 480a]

The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said:

"Every prostration you make for Allah raises your rank by one degree and
removes one sin"
[Riyad as-Salihin 107]

46
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

There is no evidence for performing prostration in this manner, the method

of prostration is incorrect. Women are also instructed to perform prostration in
the same way as men. We must perform our prayers according to the Sunnah
and instructions of Rasulullah ‫ﷺ‬

47
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

POST-25
In this post we will Learn about the important aspects of prostration (Sajdah)
in this post, In Sha Allah.

Duas for Sajdah:

1. ‫ي األ َ ْعلَى‬
ََّ ‫ان َر ِب‬
ََّ ‫س ْب َح‬
ُ
Subhana Rabbi al A'la
"My Exalted Lord is free from all imperfections."
[Riyad as-Salihin 1175]

2. ‫ي األ َ ْعلَىَّ َو ِب َح ْم ِد َِّه‬

ََّ ‫ان َر ِب‬
ََّ ‫س ْب َح‬
ُ
Subhana Rabbi al A'la wa bihamdih
"My Exalted Lord is free from all imperfections, and I praise Him"
[Abu Dawud 870]

Allahumma-ghfir lee dhanbi kullahu, diqqahu wa jillahu, wa awwalahu wa
akhirahu, wa 'alaaniyatahu wa sirrahu.
"O Allah! Forgive all my sins—small and great, first and last, public and hidden."

[Other authentic Duas are also proven in Hadith]

What is Jalsa?
The act of sitting between the two prostrations is called Jalsa.

48
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

How to Sit in Jalsa:

1. Bend your left foot and sit on it.
2. Keep your right foot upright and ensure the toes of both feet face the
Qibla.
[An Nasai 1159]

The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬would sit calmly and peacefully during Jalsa. It is obligatory in
prayer, and having tranquility (Tama'neena) in Jalsa is also mandatory.

Duas for Jalsa:

Allahumma-ghfir lee, warhamnee, wa 'aafinee, wahdinee, warzuqnee.
"O Allah! Forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, grant me well-being, and
provide for me."
[Sunan Abi Dawud 850]

2. ‫ب ا ْغ ِف َّْر ِلي‬
َِّ ‫ َر‬،‫ب ا ْغ ِف َّْر ِلي‬
َِّ ‫َر‬
Rabbighfir lee, Rabbighfir lee.
"My Lord, forgive me. My Lord, forgive me."
[Ibn Majah 897]

Then perform the second Sajdah with the same tranquility, focus, and
humility, reciting the prescribed Duas. After completing it, rise up from prostration.

What is Jalsa e Istirahat?

49
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

Sitting briefly after the second prostration before standing up for the next
Rak'ah is called Jalsa e Istirahat.
• After the second Sajdah, sit calmly in the same manner as described earlier.
• Then, use your hands on the ground for support to stand up for the next
Rak'ah.
[Sahih Bukhari 824]

Many of us sit calmly during the first Jalsa but are unaware of the importance
of the second Jalsa (Jalsa e Istirahat). This Sunnah of sitting calmly after the second
prostration before standing is part of the way the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬performed Salah.
It is a mistake that many of us make. We should strive to correct our prayers
according to the Sunnah, ensuring every movement is performed with tranquility
and proper attention.

POST-26
In the previous post, we learned about sajdah, the supplications between
sajdahs (Jalsa al- Istiraha), and also touched upon Jalsa al-Istiraha. In this post, we
will further explore Jalsa al-Istiraha, in shā Allāh!

➢ Jalsa al-Istiraha (Brief Sitting After Sajdah Before Standing Up)

➢ Jalsa al-Istiraha occurs at the end of the first and third rak‘ah.

Malik bin Huwairith ‫ رض هللا عنه‬narrates:

"I saw the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬praying, and when he was in an odd-numbered
rak‘ah, he would not stand up until he had sat for a short while."
[Sahih al-Bukhari 823]

Taking Support with the Hands While Standing Up:

Abu Qilabah reports that Malik bin Huwairith ‫ رض هللا عنه‬demonstrated how the
Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬prayed:
“When he ‫ ﷺ‬would raise his head from the second sajdah, he would sit
for a short while and then take support on the ground before standing up.”
[Sahih al-Bukhari 824]

Using the Hands for Support Like Kneading Dough!

Azraq bin Qais narrates:
"I saw Ibn Umar ‫ رض هللا عنه‬in prayer, taking support on his hands as if kneading
dough when standing up. I asked him about it, and he replied, 'I saw the
Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬doing the same.'”
[Abu Ishaq in Gharib Ahadith 1/98/5, Graded Hasan in Tamaam al-Minnah: p. 196]

51
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

Hand Support Is Not Due to Old Age!

Azraq bin Qais also narrates:
"I saw Ibn Umar ‫ رض للا عنه‬take support on his hands while standing up
after two rak‘ahs. I said to his son and companions, 'Perhaps he does this due to
old age?' They replied, 'No, this is how it should be done.'”
[Bayhaqi: 2854, Albani graded this chain as good. All narrators are reliable. (Tamaam
al-Minnah: p. 200)]

NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

POST-27
In the previous post, we learned the complete method of performing one
Rak’ah, Alhamdulillah, from the intention to the second Sajdah of the first Rak’ah.
The second Rak’ah will be performed in the same way as the first one.

• First Tashahhud

What is Tashahhud?
It is also called "Qa'dah Oola." After the second Rak’ah (rising from the
second Sajdah), one should spread the left foot and sit on it while keeping the right
foot upright.
Place the right hand on the right knee and the left hand on the left knee.
(The same way of sitting was followed between the two Sajdahs, and the
same method should be adopted in the first Tashahhud as well.)

Position of the fingers in Tashahhud:

➢ The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬joined two fingers together and made a
circle.
[Abu Dawood 726]
➢ (And) the Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬closed all his fingers and pointed with
the index finger.
[Sahih Muslim 580c]

Both of these methods are authentically proven from Sahih Hadiths,

Alhamdulillah.

53
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

The issue of moving the index finger in Tashahhud:

He ‫ ﷺ‬raised his finger, and I saw him moving it while making supplication.
[Sunan an-Nasa'i 889]

The virtue of this action:

Raising the finger in Tashahhud is a highly blessed and significant Sunnah of
the Messenger of Allah ‫ﷺ‬, which is proven from the Sunnah, Alhamdulillah.

This finger (its movement) causes more harm to Shaytan than iron.
[Sifatu Salatinnabi by Al-Albani]

A common innovation in Tashahhud:

َّٰ َّ‫ل ا ِٰل َّهَ اِل‬
Raising the finger only when saying (ُ‫ّللا‬ َّ َ ) and then lowering it is not
proven from any narration.
The narration from Abdullah bin Zubair (RA), which states that the finger
should not be moved, is weak, whereas there are multiple Hadiths confirming the
movement of the finger.

[Sahih Bukhari 6265]
Tashahhud Should Be Recited Silently:
Abdullah bin Mas'ud (RA) narrates:
"The Sunnah is that Tashahhud should be recited quietly."
[Abu Dawood 870]

What to Do After the First Tashahhud?

After reciting this supplication in the first Tashahhud, stand up for the next
Rak’ah and perform Raf'ul Yadain (raising the hands) before beginning the next
Rak’ah.
If you are praying a two (2) Rak’ah Salah, then complete your Salah following
the method of the second Tashahhud, which will be explained in the next post, In
Sha Allah.

56
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

POST-29
In the previous post, we learned the method of sitting in the first Tashahhud.
Now, let’s understand the remaining rulings of Salah, In Sha Allah.
As explained in the previous posts, after completing the entire prayer (i.e., all
the rak‘ahs), (If the prayer consists of 3 or 4 rak‘ahs, then stand up from first
tashahud and do Rafulya dain,in the 3rd and 4th rak‘ah, only Surah Al-Fatiha
should be recited) we will sit for the final Tashahhud. The method of doing so is
explained in this post.

Note: The way of sitting in the first Tashahhud and the final Tashahhud is different.
If you are performing a 2-rak‘ah prayer, there will be only one Tashahhud,
which will be the final Tashahhud. That means you should sit in the same way as in
the final Tashahhud.

The Method of Sitting in the Final Tashahhud (Tawarruk)

After completing the second prostration (Sajdah) of the last rak‘ah, sit for
Tashahhud as follows:
➢ Place the left foot under the right shin and extend it outward.
➢ Sit on the left hip.
➢ Recite Attahiyat, Durood, and supplications, then conclude the prayer by
saying Salam.
[Sahih Bukhari 828]

(If the written explanation is unclear, refer to the picture below for better
understanding, In Sha Allah.)

POST-31
In the previous post, we learned about the supplications (duas) recited in
Tashahhud. In today’s post, we will continue learning more about this, In Sha Allah!

Supplication After Darood

After reciting Darood, we can recite any authentic supplication (dua) that is
proven from Sahih Hadith. After that, we can ask for our personal supplications,
but they should also be established from the Qur'an and Hadith.
Remember that supplications should only be made in Arabic and not in any
other language.

After this, it is recommended to pray for our parents in every salah, such as:

ََّ ‫ب ا ْغ ِف َْر ِلي َو ِل َوا ِلد‬

➢ ‫َي‬ َِ ‫َر‬
"Rabbighfir li wa liwalidayya."
"My Lord, forgive me and my parents."
[Surah Nuh 71:28]

➢ َ‫يرا‬ َ ‫ار َح ْم ُه َما َك َما َربَّيَانِي‬

ً ‫ص ِغ‬ ْ ‫ب‬َِ ‫َّر‬
"Rabbir hamhuma kama rabbayani sagheera."
"My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up when I was small."
[Surah Al-Isra 17:24]

After that, salaam should be said to complete the prayer.

Ending the Salah (Tasleem)

60
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

Hazrat Ali (‫ )رض هللا عنه‬and Ibn Umar (‫ )رض هللا عنه‬reported that the Messenger of
Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said:
"The key to prayer is purification, its consecration is saying 'Takbeer' (Allahu
Akbar), and its conclusion is saying 'Salaam'."
[Abu Dawood 61, Sahih Abu Dawood 55]

The Correct Way to Say Tasleem

Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (‫ )رض هللا عنه‬narrated:
"The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬would turn to his right and left while saying 'Assalamu
Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah' until the whiteness of his cheek was visible."
[Abu Dawood 996, Sahih Abu Dawood 914]

Alhamdulillah, This completes the 2 and 4 rak’ah prayer.

POST-32
In this post, we will learn about Witr prayer, In Sha Allah.

Witr Prayer
According to scholars, the most authentic opinion regarding Witr prayer is
that it is Sunnah Muakkadah (an emphasized Sunnah). One must be consistent in
performing this prayer and should not abandon it.

Time for Witr Prayer

The time for Witr prayer begins after Isha and lasts until before Fajr.
[Sunan Abi Dawood 1418]

If a person fears that they may not wake up in the last part of the night,
they should pray for Witr in the earlier part of the night. However, if one expects
to wake up in the last part of the night, then they should delay Witr until then
because the angels are present at that time, and it is more virtuous.
[Sahih Muslim 755]

Number of Rak’ahs in Witr

One can pray Witr as 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, or 11 rak’ahs.
[Sahih Muslim 746]
➢ Method of Praying One (1) Rak’ah Witr
One rak’ah should be performed, and the prayer should be completed with
Tashahhud.
[Sahih Muslim 752]

62
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

Method of Praying Three (3) Rak’ahs Witr

The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said:
"Do not pray with Witr as three (3) rak’ahs similar to Maghrib."
[Sunan al-Bayhaqi 3/31]

➢ Two Authentic Ways of Praying Three (3) Rak’ahs Witr from the Sunnah
• First method:
Pray all three rak’ahs together without sitting for Tashahhud in between. Instead,
complete all three rak’ahs and conclude the prayer with a single Tashahhud.
(i.e., one Tashahhud for the three rak’ahs)
[Sunan an-Nasai 3/234]

• Second method:
Pray two rak’ahs and conclude with Tasleem (say Salaam). Then, stand up and
pray the third rak’ah separately.
(i.e., the three (3) rak’ahs are performed by first praying two rak’ahs with
Tashahhud followed by Tasleem, then standing up for the third rak’ah
separately.)
[Sahih Muslim 736]

Recommended Surahs to Recite in Witr Prayer

➢ First rak’ah: Surah Al-A’la
➢ Second rak’ah: Surah Al-Kafiroon
➢ Third rak’ah: Surah Al-Ikhlas
[Jami’ at-Tirmidhi 461]
➢ Method of Praying Five (5) or Seven (7) Rak’ahs Witr

63
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

If one prays five or seven rak’ahs for Witr, they should complete all the rak’ahs
first and then sit for Tashahhud at the end.
(i.e., one single Tashahhud for the entire prayer)
[Sahih Muslim 737]

➢ Method of Praying Nine (9) Rak’ahs Witr

The method of praying nine (9) rak’ahs of Witr is to first pray eight (8) rak’ahs
continuously, then sit for Tashahhud after the eighth rak’ah. However, without
saying Tasleem (Salaam), stand up for the ninth rak’ah. After completing the final
rak’ah, conclude the prayer with Tashahhud and Tasleem.
(i.e., two Tashahhuds and only one Tasleem)
[Sahih Muslim 746]

Witr Prayer and Dua e Qunoot – Complete Information!
It is Sunnah to recite Dua e Qunoot in Witr prayer.
➢ Reciting Dua e Qunoot before Ruku is the preferred Sunnah.
➢ Reciting Dua e Qunoot after Ruku is also proven from Hadith.
Dua e Qunoot:

You have befriended, bless me in what You have given, and protect me from the
evil of what You have decreed. Indeed, You alone decree, and none can pass
judgment over You. Whosoever You befriend will never be disgraced, and
whomsoever You oppose will never gain honor. Our Lord! You are Most Blessed
and Most Exalted."
[Sunan Abu Dawood 1425]
Raising Hands in Dua e Qunoot
It is proven from some companions that they raised their hands while reciting
Dua e Qunoot.
[Tuhfatul Ahwazi, 2/581]

65
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

Just as hands are raised during other supplications, they can also be raised
during Dua e Qunoot.
The Imam will recite Dua e Qunoot aloud, and the followers will say Ameen.
Where praise of Allah occurs, one should not say Ameen.
After completing the Dua e Qunoot, one should proceed directly to the next
action of prayer without wiping hands over the face.

Tasbeeh After Witr

(After completing Witr prayer, recite this Tasbeeh)

َ ِ ‫ك ا ْلقُد‬

Evidence from Hadith

The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said:
"Make Witr the last prayer of your night."
[Sahih Bukhari 997]

The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said:

"If anyone sleeps through Witr or forgets to pray it, he should offer it when
he remembers or wakes up."

What is Sajda as-Sahu?
Sajda as-Sahu is a special prostration performed to correct mistakes made
during prayer, such as forgetting a Rak’ah (unit of prayer) or making an error in
recitation.

The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said:

"If any of you has doubt in his prayer, he should ignore the doubt and act
upon what he is certain of. When he completes his prayer, he should perform
two prostrations. If his prayer was complete, these (extra) prostrations will be
voluntary, and if his prayer was incomplete, they will complete his prayer. These
two prostrations will be a humiliation for Satan."
[Sunan Ibn Majah 1210]

When Should Sajda as-Sahu Be Performed?

➢ If a Rak’ah is missed or reduced
[Sahih Bukhari 1224]
➢ If an extra Rak’ah is performed
[Sahih Bukhari 1226]
➢ If a mistake is made in recitation or there is doubt regarding the prayer
[Sahih Bukhari 401]
➢ If any part of the prayer is forgotten
[Abu Dawud 570]

Common mistakes in prayer include missing or adding a Rak’ah, forgetting to

sit for Tashahhud, forgetting any part of the prayer such as Ruku (bowing) or

67
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

Sujood (prostration), or performing more than two prostrations. In such cases,

Sajda as-Sahu should be performed.

The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said:

"If someone stands up after two Rak’ahs without sitting for Tashahhud,
then if he has not completely stood up, he should sit down. But if he has already
fully stood up, he should not sit down and instead perform Sajda as-Sahu."
[Abu Dawud 1036]
If someone, in a four-unit prayer, mistakenly stands up for a fifth Rak’ah, he
should not complete it, as it is extra. However, he must perform Sajda as-Sahu due
to this addition in prayer.

How to Perform Sajda as-Sahu?

➢ Method of Sajda as-Sahu:
If a person doubts whether he has prayed one or two Rak’ahs, he should
consider it as one. If he doubts whether he has prayed two or three, he should
consider it as two, and then (in the final sitting perform two prostrations before
saying Salam.

Practical Method of Sajda as-Sahu:

➢ In the final sitting (Qa'dah), after reciting Tashahhud, Durood, and
supplication, say "Allahu Akbar" and go into prostration.
➢ Perform the first prostration, then sit briefly in Jalsa.
➢ Perform the second prostration, then sit up and complete the prayer with
Salam.
Note:
Hadith proves that Sajda as-Sahu should be performed before saying Salam.

68
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

If a mistake is made in prayer but one does not realize it during the prayer
and instead engages in conversation or leaves the mosque afterward, then Sajda
as-Sahu cannot be performed upon remembering the mistake.

A Common Innovation (Bid’ah) in Sajda as-Sahu:

Turning Salam only to the right side, then performing prostration, reciting
Tashahhud again, and then saying full Salam is not proven from the Sunnah.
Alhamdulillah, this was a detailed explanation of Sajda as-Sahu. May Allah
grant us the ability to perform our prayers correctly, Ameen!

Correct way of Praying Salat al-Janazah (The Funeral Prayer).
The Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬and his Companions (‫)رض هللا عنهم‬ ‫ي‬ explained how to
perform Salat al-Janazah (the funeral prayer). It is performed as follows:
Steps to Perform Salat al-Janazah:
1. First Takbir – Say "Allahu Akbar."
Then, Seek refuge in Allah from Shaytan (Auzubillah Minashaitan
Nirajeem) and recite Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Rahim, then recite Surah Al-
Fatihah.
2. Second Takbir – Say "Allahu Akbar" and send salawat upon the Prophet
(‫( )ﷺ‬recite Durood Ibrahim).
3. Third Takbir – Say "Allahu Akbar" and make du’a for the deceased (see
recommended supplication below).
4. Fourth Takbir – Say "Allahu Akbar", pause briefly, then conclude with
one Taslim (turning to the right and saying "Assalamu ‘alaykum wa
rahmatullah").
Recommended Du’a for the Deceased:
The following du’a was narrated from the Prophet (‫)ﷺ‬:

POST-37
Alhamdulillah, most aspects related to prayer have been covered. Today, let’s
briefly discuss an important topic, In Sha Allah.

Women Going to the Mosque!

In our society, restrictions are often placed on women going to the mosque,
whereas Islam has granted them complete permission.

Let’s look at some hadiths related to this:

Narrated by Abdullah bin Umar (RA):
The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said:
"If your women seek permission to go to the mosque at night, grant them
permission."
[Sahih al-Bukhari 865]
Narrated by Abu Huraira (RA):
"Do not prevent the female servants of Allah from going to the mosques of
Allah, but they should go without wearing perfume."
[Sunan Abi Dawud 565]
The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said:
"When women ask for permission to go to the mosque, do not stop them."
[Sahih Muslim 442a]

From these hadiths, it is clear that Allah and His Messenger ‫ ﷺ‬did not place
any restrictions on women going to the mosque. Rather, these hadiths explicitly
forbid preventing them from doing so.

74
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

Narrated by Umm ‘Atiyyah (RA):

"The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬commanded us to bring out the young girls, the
veiled women, and the menstruating women for the Eid prayer. However,
menstruating women should stay away from the prayer area but participate in
the goodness and the supplications of the Muslims."
[Sunan an-Nasa'i 1558]

From these hadiths, we learn that even menstruating and postpartum women
were encouraged by the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬to attend the Eid gathering and participate in
the prayers of the Muslims.

However, in our society, women are often stopped from going to the mosque
under the pretext that their presence may cause temptation (fitnah) for men, and
thus, restrictions are imposed on them.

It is worth pondering that in today’s era, women leave their homes for
weddings, shopping, and other needs. They go to markets and colleges
(unfortunately, sometimes without proper hijab), where non-mahram men are
present. Yet, men do not seem to perceive any "fitnah" in these situations.

However, when women wish to go to the mosque in proper hijab to seek

knowledge, listen to sermons, and perform prayers—where there are separate
sections for men and women, and complete arrangements for segregation—
suddenly it is labeled as a cause of "fitnah" and they are stopped. This, despite the
fact that neither Allah nor His Messenger ‫ ﷺ‬have placed any such restriction.

75
NAMAZ E NABWI ‫ﷺ‬

How Should Women Go to the Mosque?

➢ Without any adornment, concealing their beauty, and in complete hijab.
➢ Without wearing perfume, as it is a serious sin.
➢ By guarding their gaze and ensuring they do not become a cause of
temptation for men.

Alhamdulillah, by observing these precautions, women have full permission to

go to the mosque, seek knowledge, sit in I'tikaf, perform prayers, and attend
sermons. Men should also refrain from stopping them, as it is clearly the command
of the Messenger of Allah ‫ﷺ‬

***
Alhamdulillah, this was the complete method of Namaz as practiced by Nabi ‫ﷺ‬.
This is a small effort to help us improve our prayers, correct the mistakes made in
them, and perform them in accordance with the Sunnah, so that they may be
accepted, In Sha Allah. May Allah grant us the ability to correct our prayers and
earn the maximum reward from them.
