At Indus Universal School, every academic year, the Student Council is sworn in and it
represents the student body in all academic and extra-curricular activities. The Student
Council is an example of democratic ideals and provides an outlet for student
expression. The Student Council at our School supports in creating activities to
encourage and boost student participation.
The entire process of selecting the Student Council is done in a fair and transparent
manner.
PURPOSE OF STUDENT COUNCIL:
The Student Council is a great way for students to take on leadership roles, promote the
voice of students, solve problems and promote a sense of personality responsibility
among students. It helps share ideas, interests and concerns of students with the school
community. It promotes harmonious relationships throughout the school.
ROLE OF STUDENT COUNCIL MEMBERS:
To foster communication among students, mentors and the school administration.
To lead by example.
To plan special events and school celebrations along with mentors.
To encourage and ensure maximum participation as well as smooth conduct of
activities.

To be the voice of students in general meetings.
To co-ordinate with house mentors while conducting various events.
SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process involves 4 stages:-
Stage 1: GAT (General Aptitude Test)
All Students from grades IV to XII are eligible to appear for this test. The Test format is
Multiple Choice Questions of 20 Marks and the duration of the test is of 40 minutes.
Stage 2: TAT (Thematic Apperception Test)
The shortlisted candidates from GAT are eligible to take this test. Each candidate will be
given a visual input and asked to write a paragraph of 120-150 words, based on his/her
perception of the visual.
Stage 3: JAM (Just a Minute)
The shortlisted candidates from TAT are eligible for JAM. Each candidate will have to
speak for a minute on: ‘Why he/she should be selected to be a part of the Student
Council’
Stage 4: Campaign and Election
Candidates shortlisted after JAM are eligible to campaign and contest in the student
council elections for the positions mentioned earlier as per specified eligibility of their
grade and house.
