Materials needed:
• U.S. 9 (5.50 mm) straight needles
• Worsted weight yarn (100 -125 yards) Patons Classic Wool yarn used
• 1 1 inch button for closer

Gauge: 4 stitches = 1 inch

Sizes:
toddler (18-19 inch head circumference)
child (20-21 inch head circumference)
adult (22-23 inch head circumference)

This warmer is worked flat from end to end.

Abbreviations:
m1r = make 1 right
m1l = make 1 left
c1b = cable 1 back
c1f = cable 1 front
yo = yarn over
ssk = slip slip knit

Warmer:
Cast on 4 stitches.
Row 1: knit
Row 2: k2, m1r, k2 (5 sts)
Row 3: knit
Row 4: k2, m1r, p1, m1l, k2 (7 sts)
Row 5: knit
Row 6: k2, m1r, p3, m1l, k2 (9 sts)
Row 7: knit
Row 8: k2, m1r, p5, m1l, k2 (11 sts)
Row 9: k3, c1b, k1, c1f, k3
Row 10: k2, m1r, p7, m1l, k2 (13 sts)
Row 11: k6, m1r, k1, m1l, k6 (15 sts)
Row 12: k2, p11, k2
Row 13: k3, c1b, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo, c1f, k3

Row 22: k2, p15, k2
Row 23: knit
Repeat rows 20-23 until the warmer measures the length needed for the
size you are making. Make sure to end with row 23.
12.75 inches (toddler)
13.50 inches (child)
14.25 inches (adult)

Note: The warmer length is easily adjusted by adding and removing


rows. Just make sure to always end with row 23.

Decrease:
Row 1: k2, p2tog, purl to last 4 stitches, p2tog, k2 (17 sts)
Row 2: k2, ssk, c1b, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo, c1f, k2tog, k2 (15 sts)
Row 3: k2, p11, k2
Row 4: k2, ssk, knit to last 4 stitches, k2tog, k2 (13 sts)
Row 5: k2, p9, k2
Row 6: k2, c1b, k5, c1f, k2
Row 7: k2, p2tog, p5, p2tog, k2 (11 sts)
Row 8 (buttonhole row): k4, bring the yarn to the front, slip the next stitch
purlwise from left to right needle, bring the yarn to the back, slip the next
stitch purlwise, from left to right needle, pass the second stitch on the
right needle over the first, *slip the next stitch purlwise from left to right
needle, pass the second stitch on the right needle over the first, repeat
from * {1 more time}, slip the last bound off stitch from the right needle to
the left, turn work, with the yarn in the back use a cable cast on, cast on 4
stitches, bring the yarn to the front, turn work, slip the first stitch
purlwise from left to right needle, pass the extra cast on stitch over the
slipped stitch, k3.

Row 9: k2, p2tog, purl to last 4 stitches, p2tog, k2 (9 sts)


Row 10: k2, c1b, k1, c1f, k2
Row 11: k2, p2tog, p1, p2tog, k2 (7 sts)
Row 12: k2, k3tog, k2 (5 sts)
Bind off all stitches purlwise, weave in all the ends and add the button
opposite the buttonhole for closer.

Finished approx. length after blocking:


18.50 inches (toddler)
19.25 inches (child)
20.00 inches (adult)
