Inspired by the diversity captivating blend of history and modernity in different
provinces and places. We choose the topic “ Towns with characters “ in hope that
we can introduce more vibrancy by exploring wonderful towns and provinces
around the world with every towns have ,rich cultural heritage, and picturesque
landscapes, delightful destinations and show their unique charms through our
perspectives and researchs .

B.TOWNS WITH CHARACTERS


I . HOI AN ANCIENT TOWN
1.General information
Hoi An Ancient town is located in Viet Nam’s central Quang Nam Province, on the
north bank near the mouth of the Thu Bon River.
Hoi An Ancient Town still has its own distinct beauty lying in every street corner,
every roof, and even in the small streets. This place has an ancient grace with
features that cannot be found anywhere else.
2.History facts and events
The town's historical significance is deeply rooted in its role as a thriving trading
port from the 15th to the 20th century, a place for the bustling exchange of goods
for merchants among China, Japan and other Western countries.
In 1999, recognized by UNESCO as a "World Cultural Heritage Site", Hoi An
became an attractive tourist destination from all over the world, a vivid picture of
historical revival and preservation.
3.Demographics
3.1. Natural aspects
The architecture of Hoi An Ancient Town has many unique features with its
traditional architecture, the harmony of houses, walls, and streets.
The first distinctive feature of Hoi An Ancient Town's architecture is open space
thanks to a system of wide windows and doors, along with small front yards, these
houses always receive natural light and cool breezes.
Hoi An is famous for its ancient houses built in the 17th and 18th centuries. Hoi An
ancient house architecture is made mainly of wood, bricks, yin and yang tile roofs,

a harmonious combination of Vietnamese, China and Japan culture create a unique
beauty and attract tourists.
One of the other distinctive features that attract tourists to Hoi An is its winding
streets, concealed under the shade of lush trees. Walking along these streets,
tourists seem to be lost in a different world, completely separate from the hustle
and bustle of urban life.
3.2. Cultural aspects
In addition to enjoying the town's charming beauty, a visit to Hoi An Ancient Town
offers the opportunity to explore a blend of Eastern cultures from Vietnam, Japan,
and China. This vibrant multicultural town, founded over 200 years ago, was once
a bustling trading port during the Nguyen Dynasty.
Hoi An Ancient Town is also famous for its unique traditional festivals, such as the
Fortune God Festival, ceremonies for craft ancestors, and celebrations for religious
saints. Folk games like Ho Khoan, Ho Gia Gao, and Bai Choi are also popular here.
3.3. People in Hoi An
If you have been to Hoi An and communicate with people there, you must agree
with me that Hoi An people are essentially rich in tradition and culture and are soon
accessible to the outside world.
Hoi An is like a big family with hospitable hosts, friendly burghers, kind gentle
women, and polite children… Together, they constituted a harmonious community
in which everybody lived happily for centuries.
4.Attraction
Hoi An, with its ancient and romantic beauty, is one of the must-see destinations
when traveling to Vietnam. This city attracts tourists with its ancient houses,
sparkling lanterns, narrow streets and special dishes.
Walking on the beautiful, winding streets, admiring the ancient moss-covered
houses, taking photos with colorful lanterns, discovering the lives of local
residents, etc., tourists will be like stepping into another world.
Visit historical and cultural relics such as Cau Pagoda, Tan Ky ancient house, Phuc
Kien Assembly Hall and more to learn about the golden past of Hoi An trading
port.
Visiting Hoi An market and enjoying local specialties such as Cao Lau, Quang
noodles, Phuong bread, etc., to fully feel the taste of Hoi An will be the perfect

choice for a visit. Tourists can also find and choose to buy lovely souvenirs at Hoi
An market.
Experience the feeling of relaxation when taking a boat to drop flower lanterns on
the romantic Hoai River, watching the sparkling ancient town at night.
5.Economy
Hoi An is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Vietnam, and it is home to
two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Hoi An Ancient Town (culture
heritage) and The Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve. The tourism,
service, and trade sector is the main source of income for the city.
For many years, the tourism economy of Hoi An had played a dominant role in
powering many of its commercial activities, including trade, hospitality services,
local handicraft production, and others.
However, disruptions to the tourism sector as a result of travel bans associated with
the COVID-19 pandemic has led to the downturn and stalling of these economic
activities, resulting in significant economic losses to the city.
The government also encouraged the restarting of cultural tourist activities in Hoi
An as the pandemic has become under control, focusing on attracting domestic
visitors until international travel is fully restored.
II. Cape Town
1. General Information
Cape Town, located at the southern tip of Africa, is the capital of the Western Cape
province and a major city in South Africa. Known for its breathtaking landscapes,
the city is framed by the iconic Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean. With a
population exceeding 4 million, Cape Town is a vibrant melting pot of cultures,
offering a unique blend of urban life, history, and natural beauty.
2. History Facts and Events
Cape Town was founded in 1652 by the Dutch East India Company as a
replenishment station for ships traveling to the East Indies. The city has witnessed
significant historical events, including the British occupation in the 18th century,
the establishment of the Cape Colony, and its pivotal role in the apartheid regime.
The city was a focal point during the struggle against apartheid, with landmarks
like Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. His release in 1990
marked a turning point in South Africa’s journey to democracy.

III.Hakone, Kanagawa, Japan
1.General Information
Hakone is in western Kanagawa Prefecture and is part of Fuji-Hakone-Izu National
Park in the Kanto Area. It is famous both inside and outside Japan as a resort area
brimming with natural hot springs of the highest quality and for its stunning views
of Mt Fuji.
The town had a population of 10,965 people . This town has a humid subtropical
climate, characterized by warm summers and cool winters with light to no
snowfall. The temperatures are highest on average in August, and lowest in
January.
Hakone is a notable spa town and a popular tourist destination due to its many hot
springs being within view of nearby Mount Fuji, the most visited mountain in
Japan

Hakone was a major checkpoint on the Old Tokaido Road; a route that connected
Kyoto and Tokyo during the Edo period (1603–1867). Walk in the footsteps of
nobles, samurai, and pilgrims along a section of the historical cobblestone
pavement and avenue of 400-year-old Japanese cedars
Mount Hakone started about 500,000 years ago with the eruptions, that created
Mount Kintoki and Mount Myōjō on the current "Old outer rim"; and the
subsequent eruptions about 160,000 years ago made the "New outer rim", on which

3.Demographics

areas. Unlike other religions, there are no sacred scriptures, with the focus instead
on ritual practices.

1. General information :
- Mention is a charming town located the southerastern region of France , near the
border with Italy
- Mention boasts a mild climate and stunning landscapes
-The town is famous for cultural events, particularly the annual Lemon festival,
where artistic displays made from lemons and oranges captivate visitors
2. History facts and events :
Menton has a rich and varied history that reflects its strategic location on the
French – Italian border
- Early Settlement : Mention was originally settled by the Greeks, who established
a small community in the area. Later, the Romans occupied the region. They built
villas and roads, facilitating ecomonic growth
- World war 2: During world war 2, Menton was occupied by German forces from
1942-1944. After the war, the town gradually recovered and rebuilt , regaining its
status as a popular tourist destination.
3. Demographics:
- Population: Menton has a population of around 30,000 people , which can
fluctuate significantly during the summer due to an influx of tourists. The towns
attracts many residents from other countries , particularly Italy, creating a diverse
and multicultural community.

Menton was notable for its blend of French and Italian cultures, evident in its
cuisine which features dishes such as : sea food, lemon –based desserts. Cultural

Menton hold the grand Lemon Festival to celebrate this distinctive fruit, as well as

V. Ninh Bình province


1.General Information:
Ninh Binh is a province in the Red River Delta and is located at the southernmost
gateway to the North of Vietnam. Tens of thousands years ago, people lived here

Ninh Binh is the ancient capital of Vietnam. When King Dinh Tien Hoang defeated
the 12 warlords and ascended the throne, he chose the ancient capital Hoa Lu as his
capital.
But in 1010, when King Ly Cong Uan ascended the throne, he realized that the
capital was not suitable for the current development of the country because of the
mountains and inconvenient transportation. So that, he decided to move the capital
from Ninh Binh province to Hanoi.

In 1962, The historical-cultural relic of the ancient capital Hoa Lu was ranked as a
national relic by the Ministry of Culture and then a special national relic in 2012.
3.Demographics:
Population: As of December 31, 2020, the total population of Ninh Binh province
reached 993,920 people. Of which, the male population was 495,995 people and
the female population was 497,925 people.
3.1.Cultural aspects:
Ninh Binh is located at the intersection of the Northwest, Red River Delta and
North Central regions. That characteristic has created a relatively dynamic Ninh
Binh culture, developing on the foundation of civilization.
3.2 People in Ninh Binh Province
Residents in Ninh Binh province are very open-minded, friendly, active, talent,..
They are always willing to help other people if they can.
Food: The specialties here are very rich such as Ninh Binh mountain goat meat,
Kim Son wine, Dong Giao pineapple, Ninh Binh fried rice,..
4.Attractions and events
This place has many famous scenic spots.
Bai Dinh Pagoda is a complex of ancient and new pagodas with the scale of the
largest pagoda in Southeast Asia, the pagoda that holds the most records in
Vietnam.
Trang An scenic complex with a system of caves, valleys, forests and historical
relics associated with the ancient capital of Hoa Lu. This place has 3 core areas that
have been ranked as special national monuments and recognized by UNESCO as
world heritage sites.
Cuc Phuong National Park, with an area of approximately 22,000 hectares of
primeval forest, is the first national forest in Vietnam. It has many rare flora and
fauna, thousand-year-old teak trees, and the Ancient People Cave.
Tam Coc - Bich Dong tourist area has been awarded the title: "Nam Thien De Nhi
Dong" or "Clay Ha Long Bay" and is also recognized as a special scenic relic with
tourist attractions such as: Tam Coc, Thai Vi Temple, Bich Dong Pagoda, Tien
Cave, But Cave, Nang Valley, Nham Valley, Bird Garden, etc.

5.Economy:
Ninh Binh province develops its economy based on all 3 area: agriculture, industry,
and trade-services.
Agriculture: Ninh Binh has the advantage of developing a diversified agricultural
sector. The main agricultural areas of the province: Dong Giao farm area
specializes in growing industrial crops such as pineapple, Kim Son area grows
sedge for making mats, handicrafts, raises tiger prawns, seafood, Ninh Phuc flower
village area, Ninh Son grows flowers and clean vegetables. Aquaculture is
developing.
Industry: Total industrial production value in 2023 will reach more than 103 trillion
VND, GRDP value of Ninh Binh's industry in 2023 will reach 14.4 trillion VND.
Trade and services: Ninh Binh has a very favorable inter-regional traffic
convergence location for the development of goods circulation with other localities
in the country. Regarding tourism infrastructure services, Ninh Binh has the
conditions to develop diverse types of tourism: ecological - resort, cultural -
historical - spiritual, adventure tourism, sports.
