Persuasive Speech On Beauty Pageants
Putting a Stop to Children s Beauty Pageants
Imagine seeing a little girl, no older than eight, walk on stage with her beautiful, blonde hair
curled so perfectly behind her, her teeth as white and flawless as those seen on dental
commercials, and an impeccable mound of makeup caked on her face making her appear to be in
her early twenties. She is wearing the most stunning pink, shimmery dress that has been tailor
made to fit every detail of her body. The reaction of most people is, wow she is a very beautiful
young girl, but what most people do not realize is that behind that beautiful little girl is a young
child who does not get to live a normal life like the average eight year old. There is no going to
the park and swinging so high that she gets butterflies in her stomach or hanging out with friends
and playing with dolls. Instead, it is long, countless hours of rehearsals and dress fittings, hair and
makeup, and time spent in a tanning salon to create the perfect golden skin color. Children beauty
pageants should be banned because of the sexualization of young girls, risk of mental and health
problems, no time to just be a kid, and the sole factor that these kids are too young and
unknowledgeable to say no. There is an average of 5,000 beauty pageants a year with over two
million contestants who sign up to participate. Toddlers and Tiaras is a show on TLC that first
aired in 2009 and is dedicated to the viewing of child beauty pageants. The show shadows the
process of getting ready and the performance of the three young girls in the contest (Padmore,
2016). The ages of the girls range from only a couple months old to young girls of around
fourteen or fifteen years old. The juvenile individuals were pictured wearing skimpy little outfits
including bikinis and short shorts with a crop top shirt. The show had an average of 1.3 million
viewers every week (Padmore, 2016). That is 1.3 million people, including men and child rapists,
watching these little girls wearing little or next to nothing dance around the stage. Speaking from a
personal standpoint, I have watched Toddlers and Tiaras and have witnessed a children s beauty
pageant in person. What I saw was something I could never forget. I watched
Examples Of Leadership In The Movie Invictus
Leadership at the Movies: Invictus and 5 Leadership Practices
December 20, 2009 by Beverley Simpson
Morgan Freeman and Clint Eastwood have created another very special movie now playing across
North America. Invictus is the story of Nelson Mandela s early days as President of South Africa,
and particularly how he viewed the country s Rugby team, the Springboks, and an upcoming World
Cup event to be held in South Africa, as an opportunity to bring the country together.
The year is 1995. Mandela (Freeman) is in his first term as President. He recognizes the tremendous
challenges facing his government in a land torn apart by apartheid. Racial tensions are at an all time
high, people are struggling with the effects of crippling unemployment, and a new black government
has shifted the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pienaar is invited to meet the President and arrives at Government House with trepidation, uncertain
of the reason for the meeting. Mandela s personal style, his warmth, the way he treats everyone
around him with great respect and appreciation completely charms Pienaar who leaves with the
realization that something very significant has just happened to him. During their brief but
meaningful time together Mandela has skillfully Inspired a Shared Vision about the importance and
meaning of a Springboks win to South Africa.
The title of the movie Invictus comes from the Latin meaning Unconquered. We are led to believe
that Mandela had a poem written on a scrap of paper in his prison cell while he was incarcerated.
In the movie, Mandela gives the poem to the team captain Pienaar, before the start of the World
Cup. At one point in the story the Springboks are touring Robbin Island and Pienaar spends a quiet
few minutes in Mandela s old cell contemplating the kind of moral courage it would take to spend
27 years there. He is
Throwing Heat, The Autobiography Of Nolan Ryan
The book Throwing Heat, The Autobiography of Nolan Ryan was written by Nolan Ryan and
Harvey Frommer. The book was published in April 1990 by Avon Books. The book was very
inspiring for people who are into baseball. It tells the hardships and achievements of a baseball
player.
Summary
Nolan Ryan was born on January 31, 1947, in Refugio, Texas. He was the youngest of six children.
His mother decided to settle in Alvin, Texas and that was where he grew up. In Alvin, that was
where he discovered and learned how to play baseball. As a young child, he idolized baseball teams
and was part of an organization called the Little League . He was able to develop his skills in the
Little League and made way for more opportunities to advance in playing
Overcoming Obstacles In AP Calculus
Obstacles can easily change one s journey in life. I believe I did have to overcome obstacles to
succeed in AP Calculus, but they are quite different than those of the characters in the movie. In the
movie, basically every character had a large obstacle to stop them from taking the class. For
example, Angel was hindered by his activity within a gang. Ana had to deal with her father who
wanted her to drop out of school and join the family business. Pancho had to choose between joining
the workforce and his possible future as a student. Personally, the obstacles I faced were
fundamentally different than those in the movie. For me, I had to overcome obstacles like not
understanding the content that we learned in Honors Pre Calculusthe year
Mammoths In Research Paper
The most rare method to find fossils is to find original skeleton material. some insects have been
found in amber. The amber gives some scientists the chance to examine the skin, hair, and organs
of prehistoric beings. The rarest form of fossilization is the preservation of original skeletal
material and even soft tissue. For example, some insects have been preserved perfectly in amber,
which is ancient tree sap. In addition, several mammoths and even a Neanderthal hunter have been
discovered frozen in glaciers. The rarest form of fossilization is the preservation of original skeletal

Essay on Television as a Cultural Forum
Television can be considered a cultural forum. By cultural forum, this means issues and points of
view can be discussed openly and almost without punishment. These issues can vary anywhere
from male dominance in the household, to wars, to racism, to political jabs and still be covered
under freedom of speech. Television can hold a wide variety of opinions which may offend, but for
the most part due so to prove a point.
In the All in the Family episode we watched in class, it is no secret that Archie Bunker is racist. In
fact, in the episode we viewed, there is a racial argument between Archie and the George Jefferson.
Through this show, the writer s can convey thoughts, theories, and opinions about the ... Show more

Men, being as stubborn as they are, continue the racial barrage and eventually stop talking.
In the episode of Father Knows Best, Betty seeks to pursue a traditionally male dominated
profession. Even though society looks down upon it, Betty still perseveres in her endeavors to
pursue a job she likes. Due to the current times, society sets a certain standard and you are
expected to follow along with it. Going against the grain is usually shunned or you are set apart
from everyone else. I feel this is a great quality, and more people should be like this.
In these two episodes, discrimination is evident. In Father Knows Best Betty is discriminated against
for attempting to pursue a profession that, in that time, was male dominated. In 2005, men and
women should be considered equals in the work force, and be entitled to the same opportunities. In
that era, women were teachers, men were doctors, etc. There were standard jobs for each sex. This
is fine to talk about because it is in the TV realm. Writers are allowed to poke fun at society s
unwritten standards. In All in the Family Archie discriminates again African Americans and George
discriminates against Caucasians. Archie is brutally honest, even for our generation. His complete
disregard for feelings almost makes him appear archaic, but when put under a microscope, we see
the writers are challenging society, pushing the envelope even further. This freedom
Differences In The Movie Fahrenheit 451
There are many differences between Fahrenheit 451 movie directed by François Truffaut and the
book by Ray Bradbury. In the movie, the sound effects and music add suspense and curiosity such
as when the fire truck is moving there is a suspenseful music that makes the viewer wonder where
the fire truck is heading. Guy Montag stayed mostly the same, with a few minor differences. The
general idea that Firemen set fires to books stayed the same too. Some noticeable differences are
the changes that occurred to Clarisse. The major character differences take place with Clarisse, as
well as partially Guy Montag. To start, Clarisse and Mrs. Montag are portrayed by the same actress,
confusing the viewer unaware of which character the actress was portraying.
Circumstances Affect The Development Of Identity
Circumstances Affect the Development of Identity: Did you know two thirds of the world is
affected by something that may have not even occurred close to their country? So many things in
this world including people can change who an individual really is. Things such as trends and
people s judgment are the major issues today that people do not seem to be who they actually are.
There is nothing that can really be done about this, since people acting as themselves seem to be
judged. Just like Scout in the novel To Kill A Mockingbirdby Harper Lee, she does not act like how
society wants her to even though they accuse her for being herself. Eventually throughout the story
the only thing she wants is to grow up to be lady since that is what most people want her to be. The
novel has many events that take place in which the circumstances that one lives in can affect the
development of their identity. Harper Lee suggests that circumstances such as past family, society
beliefs, and gender stereotypes all affect one s development of their identity. There are numerous
amounts of events that occur in To Kill A Mockingbird which demonstrates the fact that one s
circumstances affect the development of their identity, one way is the situation of their past family.
Society usually expects the newer generation to act the same as the older generations. When
someone in the family does something unusual that the past generations have not done, they are
judged and the rumors
Hopelessness In Flint
The small choice made by Flint city council to save $1.5 million per year, has now turned into a
situation with a bigger price tag. Some have estimated this disaster may cost up to, or over, $45
million to fix. Citizens throughout the city of Flint put their trust into their government. Now they
have lead in their blood, and will lose community resources to make up for the costs of this outbreak.
Abraham Lincoln once said This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it.
Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional
right of amending it, or exercise their revolutionary right to overthrow it. The people of Flint are
very upset and feel betrayed by the government. A large group of citizens are seeking arrests and
other actions against government officials and agencies, including the governor himself.
Others may argue the city council was trying to help the city out and boost their economy with the
money they would save. This is true; officials were trying to better the city by buying their water
from the City of Detroit. Supporters of the plan believed that the future plan ... Show more content on

Quite easily the city council could have let the citizens in the community vote on this topic of
decision. The council also could have had a backup plan just in case this disaster would occur,
which it actually did. There are so many ways this situation could have been handled, yet no
precautions took place. The Flint water crisis was a tragedy felt by hundreds of thousands and will
affect some for the rest of their lives. A simple plan to conserve money, has now caused an
economic crisis. Ten citizens have lost their lives due to a disease linked to the toxic water. Other
citizens are left stranded without water, some now infected with lead poisoning. The time of the
government rebuilding trust and a relationship with their citizens is unforeseeable in the near
Meet Up Research Paper
Back in June I got a text from Ruby creator of Brown Girl With A Camera, asking if I would help
her plan a meetup in NYC in August. I jumped at the chance because I m all about helping and
supporting fellow entrepreneurs. I want us all to win! Plus, Brown Girl With A Camera s
mission is awesome read about it here. August is always a busy month for me. Especially this
august I had two weddings and my 4 year wedding anniversary. The only date I had available was
August 29th. Ruby and I agreed on a date. I got off the phone and got right to work. I ve hosted
art exhibits, women s empowerment events but never a meet up. This meet up was an excellent
opportunity not only for the photographers models attending to build their portfolios but also an a
chance for everyone to network, build friendships and cultivate a sisterhood. I ve said it once
before and I will say it again. Photography is mainly dominated by males. Anytime I can get
together with a group female photographers, share knowledge, experiences with women that are
going through the same things that I am and just vibe it s a good time. My goal was for everyone
to leave the meet up confident, inspired and hopefully with new skills. YUP.... this meet up was
going to be awesome! Once I had my vision for the meet up down. I called two of my favorite make
up artists Nicole Summers of Nozzie by Nicole Make Up Artistry and Melisa Martin of Mema

The Swimmer Alcoholism
Why do people drink alcohol, is it to feel the effects, or cause it is cool ? These are just some
reasons, but these reason have lead to major problem. The problem is alcoholism or simple
misusing alcohol. This issue is present in the short story, The Swimmer by John Cheever. The
protagonist, Neddy Merrill starts drinking at a party one day and he makes a goal to swim
through all the pools on his way home. While he swims the happy view of his life starts to turn
dark and he realizes that his happy views of his life is just an illusion. When he realizes this, it is
already too late and he starts to see that he has lost everything due to his drinking. The misuse of
alcoholis present in the quote He had been swimming and now he was breathing... Show more

People claim to drink it just to feel the effects or to relieve stress. Even though there are other
ways to get those same effects from drinking alcohol have without any of the dangers that come
with it. So should people drink a ton of alcohol to get some false pride and later end up in the
hospital or should they abstain from alcohol and end up living a more happier life. If you are still
not convinced read this, My addiction built steadily and, before I realized it, I had become a
morning as well as an afternoon drinker. I decided to stop drinking. I lay awake most of that
night, and by noon the next day every bone in my body ached. In a blind panic, I nervously
poured a glass full of gin, my hands shaking so violently that I spilled half the bottle. As I gulped
it down, I could feel the agony gradually lessening. Then I finally knew the terrible truth: I was
hooked. I could not quit (Watch truth about). This guy started drinking and when he tried to stop
look what happened. He felt like that he had to drink as if his life depended on it. So, I will ask
again, do you want to end up like him or
