A Dill Pickle Critical Analysis
A Dill Pickle by Katherine Mansfield represents the women s pursuit of independence through
loneliness. Mansfield captures real life stories, not ones fabricated to appeal to the masses. This
story takes place in a café, a couple meets again after 6 years apart. Their meeting emphasizes the
women (Vera s) cynical look on loveand her sensitive personality. The man exudes arrogance and
has a way with words. The differences between the two characters highlight the divergence of
their love and the lack of certain personality traits of each character. This unveils one of many
reasons why their relationship would come to an end breaking both of their hearts. Vera doesn t
talk much in the text, instead we dive deep into her inner thoughts and that s where she expresses
her true feelings of the past relationship and unravels her teetering feelings for the man, each topic
he brings up reminds her of an unpleasant memory of him from the past but as he talks he turns
those horrible memories into good ones, convincing Vera to fall back in love with him. But she
was thinking how well she remembered that trick of his the trick of interrupting her and of how it
used to exasperate her six years ago (Mansfield, 16). The fact that Mansfield chose to have Vera
think how it used to exasperate her this shows that it no longer irritated her by the word choice of
used to the man has convinced her that it no longer is a point of irritation for her but something she
now finds endearing.
The Film, Inherit The Wind, By The Scopes Monkey Trial
This paper discusses how the film, Inherit The Wind, portrays the Scopes Monkey Trial. The film
showed both sides of the argument fairly. It was conveying a message that a person should try to
understand and respect each opinion when arguing their own side. Three evidentiary issues of
the trial in the film will also be discussed. The three issues that are objected to in the film are an
opinion question, hearsay, and relevance. The judge sustained all three objections, saying that
they were inadmissible. I agree with the judge s ruling on the opinion question, but I do not agree
with the judge s ruling on the hearsay and relevance objection. For each of these issues, there will
be a discussion of the Federal Rule of Evidence that is implicated, the judge s ruling on the issue,
and whether or not the ruling was appropriate by comparing it to the Federal Rules of Evidence.
Each issue will be explained in detail with the context of the conversation to show how it happened
in the film.

INHERIT THE WIND REFLECTION3

Inherit The Wind Reflection The film, Inherit The Wind, conveys a message that a person should
try to understand and respect each opinion when arguing their own side. It did not seem to show
much bias, but instead made it seems like they wanted the viewers to see each side. The three
issues that are objected to in the film are an opinion question, hearsay, and relevance. Each issue
will be analyzed with the Federal Rules of
Pardoners in the Middle Ages Essay
Though told by a self confessed liar and hypocrite, the tale has a powerful moral and imaginative
effect. How far do you agree with this view of the text?

Chaucer s pardoner is an enigmatic, paradoxical figure, both intriguing yet repulsive. From the very
beginning of his Prologue the
Pardoner makes no attempts to hide his ypocrise, instead taking a perverse pleasure in the extent of
his corruption. As seen in the portrait of the Monk in The General Prologue, Chaucer allows the
Pardoner to condemn himself. He purposely reveals his methods of extracting money from the
povereste widwe in a village his contempt for his usual audience of lewed peple and complete
disregard for the doctrines of the Church. The Pardoner s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, we have to bear in mind that while the pilgrims hear the
Pardoner s rhetorical skills we hear Chaucer s skill as a poet. In his digression the Pardoner
melodramatically denounces a number of sins, making extensive use of rhetorical devices such as
hyperbole, anaphora and apostrophe:

O glotonye, ful of cursednesse!

O cause first of oure confusioun!

O original of oure dampnacioun.

He seems to use these to involve and unnerve his audience and effectively keep all eyes on him.
He alludes to both the Bible and classical mythology, citing Biblical prophets, historical figures
and philosophers. In contrast the tale itself is relatively plainly told and we can safely assume that
the Pardoner is well practiced in the art of telling this specific tale and even inserts some of his
sermon into it. His sermon is based on several medieval conventions, such as that of the mysterious
old man, whom Dr. McIntyre identifies as a
representation of the immanence and inescapability of death, something which would have struck a
chord with a medieval audience suffering from the onslaught of the Black Death.

The tale is an example of a very well defined genre with its own conventions and devices;
nevertheless the pardoner makes it his own through his own use of rhetorical flourishes and poetic
detail. He
Personality Theory Of Personality Development
Many personality theorists offered different explanations for human behaviors as well as established
specific stages of personality development. However, person centered theory does not have a theory
of personality structure, rather believes that it is essential to follow certain principles in order to
develop the self concept. Rogers s theory of personality is based on the notion that all individuals
have the innate ability to reach actualizing tendency and establish a self concept, which is congruent
with his whole experience (Warner, 2009). Rogers defined the actualizing tendency as the inborn
motivating force of the self, which move towards fulfilling and enhancing ones true potential. The
actualizing tendency applies to all living organism, however, in human this tendency is referred as
self actualization. According to Rogers (1980) actualizing tendency can be suppressed, though, it can
never be destroyed, without destroying the organism itself. This phenomenon is the motivating force
in the theory, which includes all motivations such as need, drive, or anxiety reduction. It also
encompasses, growth motivations for instance, the desire to be more creative and seeking of
pleasurable tensions. It is Rogers belief that all organisms including, humans strive to become his/her
full potential even under difficult circumstances. However, when individuals are lacking empathy
and unconditional positive regard in their society and in interpersonal relationship, then
Russian Art Research Paper
Growing up in the Eastern Catholic Church, a faith heavily influenced by slavic cultures and
traditions, I have been surrounded by Russian forms of art my entire life. It is in the music I sing
at Divine Liturgy, in the architecture of the church and the icons that decorate it, but the most
prominent Russian art form I have been exposed to throughout my life is literature. First it was
the stories I learned in Sunday school about the Russian saints. My favorite was St. Seraphim, the
Russian monk who lived in a hut in the woods and when he prayed, all the animals, from rabbits
to bears, would sit beside him and listen. Then when I was first learning to read, a lady in my
parish had given me an illustrated book of Russian fairy tales. I loved to try and copy the pictures
from it, especially the bright orange and red firebird that was depicted on the cover. Despite these
early introductions to Russian literature, I think the first thing that really... Show more content on

As I read more and more, what began as fun and silly playfulness has grown into deep appreciation.
However this appreciation is, unfortunately, limited. How can I fully love the poetry of Pushkin
when each word that he had meticulously chosen must be translated, sacrificing his poetic style, in
order that I may read it? Even if I could read Russian, would not my understanding of the novels of
Dostoyevsky be improved if I could visit his home country and experience the culture and society
that influenced his life and works? By visiting Russia, learning the language, and thus growing in
my understanding of Russian culture, I will be able to extract a richer experience from the writings
that I already love so much. These are exactly the opportunities that the Intensive Summer Program
in Russian will open up to me, and why I feel motivated to apply, so that I may take advantage of
such opportunities. (eh that last sentence feels
Advocacy Competences of School Counselors
Advocacy is one of the major roles for professional school counselors. The concept of advocacy is
the tradition of professional counselors, but the role of advocacy in school counseling was not
valued until the recent times. The purpose of this paper is to give a reflection about the article on
school counseling in order to show and describe the advocacy competencies of school counselors.
The article was written by Jerry Trusty and Duane Brown. The article was set to provide a
structure that helps to conceptualize advocacy in order to develop advocacy competencies. School
counselors have a key role in advocating for academic success for each student in the school. The
advocacy makes the counselors have a leadership role in encouraging and promoting school reforms.
The advocacy efforts of school counselors aim to eliminate obstacles preventing the development of
students and to create chances for all students to learn. It also aims to ensure students have access to
the school curriculum that fits their needs. School counselors collaborate with other people within
and outside the school to assist students meet their learning needs. In addition, advocacy promotes
positive and systematic change in schools (Trusty Brown, 2005). The advocacy competencies
according to Trusty and Brown s article were designed from literature reviews, personal experiences
as school counselors. They categorized them into three groups, that is, counselor s dispositions,
knowledge and skills.
How My Group Members And Me Worked Together
This paper will explain how my group members and me worked together. This was the final
project for this class. My paper will show how I related to all the myths within a culture into other
work in the real world. This is how everything turned out for this project and how I feel this had
impacted my work. I think as of now the level of engagement my partners have is very low. We
decided we wanted to focus on the Greek culture on April twenty fourth. I contacted them and
asked how we wanted to split the work up or even start and I had no responses. Finally at nine on
Saturday night one of my group members messaged a link to Google Documents, with only one
slide started. I started working on the Google PowerPoint at elven at night and woke up this
morning to see nothing added, but my new work I added around twelve the afternoon. A little
update now is that it is now six, nothing has been added but my work and I have had zero contact
with my group. So I will say my group had little engagement in this project, one member did make
the Google document, but nothing has been started. I think I learned a lot about my teamwork
skills. I am such a perfectionist and like to get things done early. Working with a group makes it
changeling, because people had different timeschedules. I think I learned that I am someone who
engages with a project more often then my group, because I want to get my work done. My goal
for this whole semester in this class was to get an A, and I think with
Supply And Demand Of Demand
Supply and Demand Kimberly Jo DeVoy Western Governor s University Supply and Demand
A.Elasticity of demand represented as Ed is defined as a measure of the response of a consumer
to a change in price on the quantity demanded of a good (McConnell, 2012). Determinants for
elasticity of demand would include the substitutability of a good, proportion of a consumer s
income spent on a good, the nature of the necessity of a good and the time a purchase is under
consideration by the consumer. Furthermore, elasticity of demand is calculated with this formula:
Ed = percentage change in quantity demanded of product X percentage change in price of product
X When price elasticity of demand is elastic, the coefficient will be greater than one. When a
percent price change occurs quantity demanded responds strongly there will be a large change in
quantities consumers purchase. There is price sensitive in this scenario. If price elasticity of
demanded is inelastic the coefficient will be less than one. When a percent price change occurs
quantity demanded does not respond strongly then there is a slight change in quantities consumers
will purchase. There a weak price sensitive in this scenario. Lastly, if price elasticity of demanded
is unit elastic the coefficient will be equal to one. Whenever there is a percent change in price there
is an equally matched percent change in quantity demanded. This scenario is rare. B.Cross price

Analysis Of The Book The Hunger Games By Scott Westerfeld
Freedom of choice, the transference of power away from and to the oppressed, and rebellion
against societal norms: these are some of the many ingredients of a book that hailed a new
approach toward writing, trailblazing a whole subgenre of fictitious works. This book, a book
which will stand the test of time, embodies the female struggle in an oppressive society. This book,
Scott Westerfeld s Uglies, will survive as it became a beacon in the new style of young adult
dystopian novels with female protagonists. This book, much in the same way that Charlotte Brontë s
Jane Eyreinspired writers like Jean Rhys to write Wide Sargasso Sea and Gilbert and Gubar to pen
the first edition of The Madwoman in the Attic, opened the path for Suzanne... Show more content on

This name, while not as dehumanizing as Rochester s other signifiers of choice, diminishes Jane to
the level of a child, once again placing Rochester in a position of power over Jane.
The concept of naming as a tool to shape relationships is a time tested literary tool, which in
addition to being employed in Jane Eyre, also features as a major discourse in Uglies. Uglies
slang is...ugly. It s all about giving people nicknames that highlights their ugliness Skinny, Squint,
the difference between Uglies use of naming and Jane Eyre s use of naming is that in Uglies the
young adults impress upon each other these oppressive names rather than a more privileged
individual bestowing the names, which lower their own self esteems(Wilkinson 10). This tactic of
encouraging self depreciating names is a practice which internalizes the need in the young citizens
to live for the day in which they turn sixteen and can be reprieved of their undesirable traits, their
skinny frames and squinty eyes. Stylistically, the two books can be compared on the use of
character foils to indirectly characterize the main protagonist; character foils, a subtle, indirect
characterization formed by comparison of characters, appears in the foil of Jane Eyre and Bertha
Rochester and the foil of Tally Youngbloodand Dr.Cable. In The Madwoman in the
Case Study Of Kerosene
Background: Kerosene is one of the most widely used sources of energy in developing countries.
Modes of accidental exposure include inhalation, ingestion and through skin or eye contact. There
have been few cases reported in literature where kerosene was injected intravenously and
subcutaneously with differing outcomes ranging from mild irritation to serious necrotizing fasciitis. It
remains challenging to predict the outcome of patients who inject kerosene via non venous route as
it is difficult to establish the accuracy of tissue layer affected by the injection
Objective: To establish methods of management available in the rare presentation of attempted
suicide by self injection of kerosene.
Design: An analysis of Case Studies

Most reported cases are in Arab countries (KSA, Jordan, Iraq) (15 cases) [2 6]. Iraq is the highest
of Arab countries (11 cases) [4]. The difficulty arises in management as cases are unique to each
exposure in terms of dose injected, site of intended versus actual injection and quantification of the
exact dose of exposure. The lethal dose of kerosene for 70 kg adult is 100 ml [7]. Only 12.9% (4
cases) had reported the exact dose of kerosene that was used. Routes of kerosene exposure included:
intradermal, subcutaneous and intravenous. Superficial skin contact with kerosene may cause
dryness scaling and dermatitis [8]. Injection of kerosene presents with a more severe clinical
presentation in the form of local unspecified inflammation, aggregation of neutrophils and soft tissue
necrosis. This was demonstrated in two histopathology specimens of debrided necrotic tissue in two
reported cases [2,3]. Intradermal injection has been reported in 32% of cases (10 cases) [4]. All
treated medically as a case of panniculitis and skin ulceration. Patients recovered without
complications except one who has developed injection site fibrosis and contracture in the wrist and
Command And Control And Integration Of Joint Functions...
This paper provides an evaluation of the command and control and integration of joint functions
associated with the invasion of Sicily, known as Operation HUSKY. The Allies achieved a positive
outcome despite the fact that key leaders demonstrated ineffective command and control capabilities
and poor integration. The paper will first evaluate the joint function of command and control, using
the three attributes of mission command from joint doctrine: commander s intent, mutual trust, and
understanding. An evaluation of the integration of intelligence and fires joint functions at the
Operational level will follow.

On 9 JUL 1943, the Allies initiated Operation Husky, one of the most significant combined
operations of World War II (Birtle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On multiple occasions, Patton used the ambiguity of the commander s intent to pursue his personal
goals (Ibid, 17).
The next attribute of mission command for consideration is trust. Once commanders communicate
their intent, they must trust their subordinates at every echelon to carry out that intent with
responsible initiative under all conditions (Mission Command White Paper, 3 April 2012, 6).
Building trust among all echelons and partners is one of the most important actions a commander
can perform (Ibid.). The lack of trust was a constant and pervasive issue for the Allies during
Operation HUSKEY. General Alexander s mistrust of the Americans, fueled partly by the
antagonistic actions of Montgomery and Patton, started a grudge between that Americans and the
British for the remainder of the War (Prescott 1994, 10).
The final attribute of mission command for consideration is understanding. Understanding prepares
leaders at all echelons with the vision and far sightedness that is essential to make operative
choices, manage risks, and consider second and third order effects (Mission Command White Paper,
3 April 2012, 5). Leaders who possess understanding have the mental capacity to grasp and
appreciate any state of affairs which facilitates their capacity to make autonomous decisions.
Conversely, leaders who lack understanding put their troops or others at risk.
