Present Value
Net present Value, Mergers and acquisitions Abstract Main objective of undertaking this to report

NEW Project) and success factors involved in mergers and acquisitions(Google Groupon Case).
Answers to the Assignments Part I: Google should go ahead with the new project. Part II: Google
s acquisition of Groupon would have been win win situation for both corporations Now I will
discuss both parts in detail below. Part I: Capital Budgeting Capital budgeting is the process of

II MERGERS AND ACQUISITIONS Assuming rationality from all players, mergers and
acquisitions deals originate out of specific strategic corporate requirements. In reality, the advisors
(both legal financial) and middlemen also play a significant role in the original activity. Some of
the best acquisition candidates are current business partners. They may be customers who work
closely with the buyer to develop new products, or suppliers with whom the buyer has close, long
term relationships. However, these targets generally imply either upstream or downstream
acquisitions so that the buyer becomes more vertically integrated within its industry and should be
a strategic decision by senior management acquirers / targets may focus on competitors for a
potential acquisition/sell off. Buying competitor implies horizontal integration. Google Groupon
Case In 2010 there were rumors related to Groupon (online couple provider) being purchased by
Google (technical search giant). Google offered around $6 Billion to buy Groupon (daily deals
site). It would have been one of the biggest online acquisitions. Groupon became the quickest
company to reach sales target of $1 billion. Groupon has done a marvelous work by linking local
merchants to a giant e commerce machine and then successfully delivering
Fidelity, Bravery, And Integrity
Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity. That is the motto. On July 26, 1908, U.S. Attorney General
Charles Bonaparte ordered a group of newly hired federal investigators to report to Chief Examiner
Stanley W. Finch of the Department of Justice. About one year later, the Office of Chief Examiners
was renamed the Bureau of Investigators. It later became the Federal Bureau of Investigators in
1935. With headquarters in Washington D.C, the FBI is our prime source of investigative resources
and responsible for more than 200 crimecategories.
In 1870, when the Department of Justice was created to enforce the federal laws and coordinate
different policies, there was not a set staff. Private detectives were hired when federal crimes needed
to be investigated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The selection process is intimidating. Real life FBI work is much different than the things that
may be seen on television. This job requires the ability to stay focused, a high intelligence level,
as well as education. Law enforcement is one of the leading careers resulting in death and/or
injury, whether it be from physical altercations or car accidents. Two deaths have also occurred
during the training process as trainees attempted to fast rope out of a helicopter. The hours are
highly unpredictable as well. When considering this career, one should think realistically. One
could imagine that a career such as this is nothing like what I shown on TV where the team is
constantly flying out to catch bad guys. Although staking out overnight and remaining
undercover for years are two likely possibilities, it is also very likely for agents to not leave the
office at all. Long hours behind a desk with all different types of paperwork are hardly ever
portrayed on television shows. Agents often have long days with long hours with a lot of
undercover assignments. All agents are constantly on call. As the FBI says on its website, This is
definitely not a nine to five
Compare And Contrast Everett And Odysseus
When books are made into movies, many times it converts a long text, boring to some, into an
exciting story that attracts many different types of audiences. In Homer s The Odyssey and the film
Oh Brother, Where Art Thou, the main characters, Everett and Odysseus, are alike in many ways.
These two men are both very similar because they both go through similar challenges throughout the
book and film, share an ability to think quickly and get out of stressful situations, and both characters
are very concerned with how other people perceive them.
Everett and Odysseus are both very concerned about their image. Everett is repeatedly shown in
the film looking for Dapper Dan hair gel, and will not use any other because he is a Dapper Dan
man and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everett demonstrates his cunningness when he and his friends are recording a song for money,
and the pay is 10 dollars per person. Everett tricks the blind recorder by saying 2 of the members
would have to scratch Xes only four of [them could] write so he would end up with 60 dollars
instead of 40 (Coen 2000). Odysseus shows his cunningness when he escapes from the cyclops.
He tied all his crewmembers to the bottoms of the cyclops s flock, so that each ram in the middle
bore a man (9:479). By doing this, Odysseus men could escape without being killed or noticed by
their captor. They also share a high level of intelligence. Odysseus has such a way with words, he
is even complimented by Athena when she says among mortal men [he was] the best at tactics
just as she was the best at tactics among the gods (13:347). Everett is also very intelligent. While
his friends use very basic speech, he uses big words and his words flow. When he is talking to
some homeless men on a train that were also wanderers, he asks if they had been trained in the
metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced [them] into a life of aimless wanderin ? ,
which means he was wondering if they could somehow get the chains from jail off of him and his 2
friends he was bound to (Coen 2000). Additionally, they both know what to say to get the best
outcome. When Odysseus was presented with the prophecy that
Technology And Its Impact On Society
Started from 40 years ago when Martin Cooper developed the first handheld cellphones to the
supercomputers today, technology has been improving in a pace that people could not imagine. Just
think about it, our ancestor wouldn t even understand what the term Internet meant. Over the years,
critics have been discussing the pros and cons of technology. Automation , as how Kelly terms
technology, brought its customers lots of convenience as well as hindrance (Kelly 299). Some
people believe automation will eventually bring the humansociety into abyss, while others believe
that human should work with these high tech machineries and bring convenient to the public.
However, indubitably from both sides of the fence, the fast growing of automation has totally shape
the society today. People today are more likely to enjoy movies such as the Terminator more than
other kinds of movies, because they feel it is cool to see high tech things go bad. But these people
haven t been considering if it has been happening around them. Technology was meant to be a tool to
help humansforge a better future, but people often over rely on them. In the article Is Google
Making us Stupid, Nicholas Carr argues that the worldwide web distracts us from concentrating and
makes us stop using our brains. He contends that he was reading more efficient before reading on
the web. He feels like he couldn t concentrate and engross on the readings (Carr 315). Another
argument made by Carr in his article is that
Mintz Sugar And Power
Sugar is known as a sweet substance attained from different plants most notably in sugar cane and
sugar beet that contains sucrose, which is used to enhance food and drinks. Sweetness and Power
by Sidney W. Mintz demonstrates and brings to life the public and financial background of the sugar
made in the western world. Sugarnot only an important subject matter for nutrition, but for our
history as well. In the novel, Mintz focuses on how sugar contribution has been very essential to
help advance nations because of the rise by the British and with that the United States has gone

that sugar has been put to many uses because of the control it has had on our world. From food,

Nazi Propaganda Film
Seldom has a history classes had film, myth, and Nazis been as integrated as this Nazi Cinema
class. Most people watch films as a form of entertainment, were as we are introduced to new form
of cinema as well as new ways to study historical merit. This will explain specific aspects of Nazi
history ranging from 1930 to 1937. Such as the power of propaganda, the Hitler Youth, and Women
in Nazi Germany, while relating it with these films Triumph of the Will (1934), Hitler Youth Quex
(1933), and La Habanera (1937).

Just by taking a look at the opening shot we are seeing from Hitler s view as he looks down upon
Germany. His view is high above Germany and its people, as if he is looking down from the
heavens. As the view changes it is of the people in the crowd waiting to see Hitler. We are now
looking at him as he ascends from the sky full of beautiful, light, fluffy clouds. As if he were a
god coming down from the heavens just for Germany to save them in their desperate time of
need. As Hitler steps from the plane we are now in the view of him or perhaps a guard, the entire
crowd is beside themselves to be in the presence of das Führer. This creation of this god like man,
in which all extremely outwardly show such love for definitely creates an appeal to the hearts of the
national masses .

combination of darkly lit atmosphere with large fires blazing, creating a smoke filling the screen

Polysar Limited recent assignment.
BACKGROUND
Rubber Group is the largest of the three operating units of Polysar Limited. The primary users of its
products, such as butyl and halobutyl, are manufacturers of automobile tires; other users are from
various industries. In 1986, Rubber group contributed 0.8 billion which is 46 percent of the
company annual sale. The operation of the group is divided into four divisions, NASA (North
America and South America) and EROW (Europe and rest of the world), Research department and
Global Marketing department. NASA and EROW operate as profit centers each produce butyl and
halobutyl dedicated to regional customers. Both of the centers have relatively flexible producing

The calculation of the two variances started with the standard fixed cost per tonne which was derived
by following formula:
Standard fixed cost/tonne
=Estimated annual total fixed cost /Annual demonstrated plant capacity
This year, the NASA Rubber s estimated annual total fixed cost was 44,625,000, and the annual
demonstrated plant capacity was 85000tonnes. Thus, the standard fixed cost per tonne for 1986 was
525/tonne.
Then, spending variance was calculated by,
Spending Variance=Actual fixed cost Standard fixed cost
Actual fixed cost/tonne=Actual annual total fixed cost /Annual demonstrated capacity
NASA had a favourable spending variance of 498thousand this year which means they spend
498thousand less than budgeted. The actual fixed cost per unit was around 519/tonne.
Volume variance was calculated by,
Volume variance=
(Standard fixed cost/tonne) x ([Actual production] [Demonstrated capacity])
NASA had an unfavourable volume variance of 11.4million which was 5million higher than
expected.
As shown above, volume variance was derived by multiplying standard fixed cost/tonne with the
difference between actual production and standard production.
By reorganizing the formula, it became:
Volume Variance=
Standard fixed cost/tonne x Annual total production Estimated annual total fixed cost
Simply speaking, the variance measures the amount of designated
Pancakes Informative Speech
Pancakes are one of most popular breakfast items in the United States and in some other countries
around the world. We especially enjoy having pancakes with maple syrup, and coffee. Sometimes
we tend to eat them as snacks. Why do we love eating them so much, what is so special about
pancakes? Some people often take pancakes for granted and don t really know their background.
What is the history behind pancakes and why are they so popular? Here are some interesting
pancake facts you may not be aware of: Pancakes have traditionally been eaten on Shrove Tuesday,
this use to be way back in days, around 1000 years ago. Pancakes can be found in many cultures
around the world, although they might not use the same ingredients as pancakes, they
The Kentucky House Of Representative Candidates Forum For...
The second group I attended was the Kentucky House of Representative Candidates Forum for
house districts: 7, 11, 12, 13, and 14. This group was attended by me via online and took place on
campus at Brescia University in Owensboro Kentucky. The Candidates Forum was held on
Monday October 17 from 7:00pm 8:30pm CDT. The scene was that of an auditorium with six
candidates seated at a table in the front and to what appeared to be the group moderator at a podium
to the right of the room. The camera did not focus in on much of the audiencefor me to give an
accurate description, but there were several members there to observe and many had questions for
the Candidates.
The Kentucky House of Representatives Candidate Forum was an open ended group. In other
words, it was open to the public primarily because it had a political agenda for gaining voters for
the Candidates that shared their views. The Candidates Forum can be identified by several of the
groups mentioned in our text, but the two groups that I feel best fit the description are:
Educational group and a Focus Group. First, I identified it with an educational because the
Candidates objective is to educate the viewers on their political stance in the race as well as
educate the viewers about important issues that need to be addressed. Lastly, I identified it with a
focus group because a focus group is closely related to task groups and problem solving and
decision making groups in that they identify needs or issues,
Child Soldiers Essay
Child Soldiers Compelled to become instruments of war, to kill and be killed, child soldiers are
forced to give violent expression to the hatreds of adults ( Child Soldiers 1). This quotation by Olara
Otunnu explains that children are forced into becoming weapons of war. Children under 18 years old
are being recruited into the army because of poverty issues, multiple economic problems, and the
qualities of children, however, many organizations are trying to implement ways to stop the human
rightsviolation.
Throughout the world children younger than 18 are being enlisted into the armed forces to fight while
suffering through multiple abuses from their commanders. Children living in areas and countries
that are at war are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Around 120,000 adolescent children are now engaged in conflicts throughout Africa ( Child Soldiers:
An Overview 4). In Sudan, for instance, thousands of children, some as young as 12, were recruited
against their will into separatist and government groups ( Child Soldiers: An Overview 5).
Thousands more children have been enlisted into the armed forces throughout Asia and the Pacific.
The most significant numbers are in Afghanistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and recently, Cambodia.
Myanmar, a country in Asia, has some of the most child soldiers throughout the world, with children
being recruited into both non government and government armed forces ( Child Soldiers: An
Overview 6). The number of child soldiers has been decreasing annually, but these children are still
being taken against their will.
Children recruited into the armed forces in these countries are forced by their commanders to
commit atrocities against other soldiers and villagers. They may also suffer through punishments
themselves. Commanders have been known to force their child recruits to witness and/or commit
abuses against their own families or captured prisoners ( Coercion and Intimidation of Child
Soldiers to Participate in Violence 1). For instance, child soldiers recruited into Uganda s Lord s
Resistance Army have been forced to tie their parents to trees and club them to death or be killed
themselves (Taylor 1). Physical
Non Profit Fundraiser For The Helpers Organization Essay
Non Profit Fundraiser for the Helpers Organization
I chose to complete a fundraiser with The Helpers Organization, which is a nonprofit information
and referral program located in Norfolk, Virginia. The Helpers Organization was founded in 2008
by Antwan Staton, as a 501(c) (3) non profit. It provided utility bills assistance, career programs,
and personal growth workshops to the less fortunate people in the Hampton Roads community.
They are also a referral program, which provides assistance on a case by case basis. Their utility
program is to help clients on a one time basis. After the client receives the Helpers Organization
assistance they are encouraged to recover from their situation, without further assistance. However,
The Helpers Organization can refer the client to other resources, if necessary. The Helpers
Organization primary goal is to help the community of Hampton Roads, by encouraging them to do
better with little assistance.
Planning Process and Type of Fundraiser
Due to my internship interest with The Helpers Organization I was already in contact with the CEO
and president of the organization, Antwan Staton. I expressed my interest in assisting the
organization s fundraiser and inquired about the process of joining the fundraiser committee. I
decided I would assist with the California Pizza Kitchen Fall Wine Tasting. The goal that we set
was $5,500. We decided to name it Fall Wine Tasting and host it at California Pizza Kitchen, it was
located in MacArthur
Homelessness Is On The Rise
Homelessness in Hawaii
In Honolulu, homelessness is on the rise. People become homeless and experience poverty for a
number of different reasons. Anderson states that, However, during the last decade, the scarcity of
affordable housing coupled with other social and economic changes thrust many new faces into the
homeless population (13). In 2013 the Department of Housing and Urban Development stated that
the state of Hawaii has the second largest population of homeless people (Nagourney). In Honolulu,
the price of housing is extremely high and jobs are scarce. It is becoming difficult to survive in
Honolulu. The poor are experiencing poverty people with out any source of income are forced to
live on the streets. There are not enough homeless shelters for every homeless person in Honolulu,
so those that are unable to live in a shelter end up living in the streets. The homeless is becoming an
issue for the state of Hawaii in Honolulu because Honolulu depends on tourisms. The Homeless are
pushed all around Honolulu because the government does not want tourist to see homeless people. In
Honolulu, homeless people are struggling to survive, they are treated unfairly, and the government is
not doing enough to help the situation.
First of all, homeless people in Honolulu are struggling to survive. They are starving, dirty, and
tired. There are over a thousand people that live on the streets with no place to call home. People
from the mainland moved to Honolulu because they were
