Network Engineer - BNG Operations
(Senior Network Engineer – Broadband Access Services)
Overview
This role focuses on the operational integrity and performance optimization of the large-scale Broadband Network
Gateway (BNG) infrastructure, primarily utilizing Juniper platforms. You will manage subscriber services, ensure
seamless integration with AAA systems, and maintain the high availability required for critical broadband access.
Your expertise will be crucial for service assurance, performance tuning, and managing changes within this vital
network segment.
Key Responsibilities
• Service Assurance: Proactively monitor BNG platform health, subscriber session stability, and AAA
interactions. Lead troubleshooting efforts for BNG-related incidents, including subscriber
authentication/authorization issues, session drops, and performance degradation. Perform RCA and
implement robust solutions. Develop and refine SOPs and PMRs for BNG operations.
• Change Management: Manage the lifecycle of changes on BNG platforms, including service profile
updates, policy implementation, software upgrades, and hardware additions, following established ITIL
change management procedures.
• Performance Management: Monitor key BNG performance indicators (KPIs) such as session count,
CPU/memory utilization, throughput, and latency. Analyze performance data using dedicated tools to
identify bottlenecks or areas for optimization. Implement and refine QoS policies. Generate performance
reports and contribute to capacity forecasting.
• Problem Management: Identify recurring issues within the BNG environment through proactive analysis.
Drive complex problem resolution, coordinating with relevant teams (e.g., AAA, Core Network, and Access
network).
• Configuration & Policy Management: Review and enhance BNG configurations and subscriber
management policies for efficiency, security, and optimal resource utilization, and subscribers load
balancing
• Technical Leadership & Communication: Act as a subject matter expert for BNG services. Lead technical
discussions related to BNG incidents and changes. Communicate effectively with internal teams and the
customer, providing clear, data-supported updates.
• Automation Awareness: Contribute to automation initiatives by identifying repetitive tasks and utilizing
basic Python scripting skills.
Required Qualifications & Experience
University Degree: Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, Information
Technology, or a related field.
Juniper Expertise: Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with Juniper Networks devices, specifically
operating and troubleshooting BNG functionalities on MX-series platforms in a large SP environment.
BNG/BRAS Technologies: Strong understanding of BNG/BRAS concepts, subscriber management, PPP,
DHCP, RADIUS/Diameter protocols, QoS, and related access technologies.
Routing Protocols: Solid understanding of BGP, ISIS/OSPF.
Python Scripting: Basic understanding and ability to read/write simple Python scripts.
Language: Good command in English (written and verbal).

Desired Skills
Juniper Certifications (JNCIP-SP, JNCIE-SP).
Experience with AAA platforms and troubleshooting.
Familiarity with performance monitoring tools relevant to BNG/access networks.
Experience in managed services or large ISP environments.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities.
Excellent communication skills, with an ability to explain complex technical issues clearly.
