adults were often back home, you knew where they were if you needed them, however they did
not stop you from taking risks and challenging yourself. We remember taking part in tree climbing,
grass blowing, making dens, creating perfumes and potions, imagining cloud pictures and acting
out small world/imaginary scenarios e.g. fairy kingdom or War zones. These memories of our own

I Am A Part Of The Wesleyan Singers At North Carolina...
My First Visit To The Church
I am a part of the Wesleyan Singers at North Carolina Wesleyan College. Our group performs
Christian culture music and it was my first time I ever sang for church. I had a wonderful
privilege to learn about Christian culture after I became a part of this group. This small group
consists of fifteen people and I am one of the two tenors. Every year we have been doing lots of
performance inside college but singing in a church, in front of large number of spiritual people was
my first time. we performed at Wilson, North Carolina. It was at the Wesleyan Singers Director s
church named First United Methodist Church. There were lots of people but none of them were
teenagers, we could only see old spiritual people and a very few children. This was my first time
ever being inside a church and being a part of the choir that was going to perform felt like a great
privilege.
The church service was to start at 11 a.m. and we reached the church around 10:20 a.m. As we
walked inside the church I was fascinated by the size and beauty of it. It was a big church with
beautiful decorated stained glass like we see in cathedrals and a wonderful music room. This first
thing that amazed me was the size of the sanctuary. In Nepal we have small temples where people
go to pray and worship various deities. The sanctuary could probably seat more than five hundred
people. I felt like I was in an auditorium and about to perform my solo in front of these people. The

The Poster Girl For Mexican And Feministic Art
Frida Kahlo was not predestined to be the poster girl for Mexican and feministic Art and part of one
of the most talked about marriages of the XXth century.
She was born into a lower class home in the suburbs of Mexico City. Her mother (whom she called
mi jefe my chief (Herrera, 1983, p14)) brought her up to be a good housewife and a believer
(Herrera, 1983).
Although she only started getting involved with it later, it was her father whom played a big part
into her discovery of the arts (Herrera, 1983). It could be believed the concept of male female
collaboration was always present in her life as her father, a photographer brought Frida along to
work whenever he needed help. Her first serious encounter with painting occurred after she
survived a car crash whose injuries left her in a full body cast for three month and on extended
bed rest (Herrera, 1983). Seeing their daughter fall into despair from this intense physical pain
and loneliness, Frida s mother had an easel made for her and her father lent her paints (Herrera,
1983). Because she could not get out of bed, she started painting what was available to her:
portraits of friends [...], family [...] and of herself (Herrera, 1983, p64). It was at this time Kahlo
started her self portrait series, a style which later would earn her the praises of Pablo Picasso and
/ became famous and praised for. Although she had never envisioned an artistic career for herself,
Frida was very ambitious with her work and became
Hurricane Harvey Hurricane
Natural disasters have costed the government a massive amount in the past years. Hurricanes such
as Katrina left people in Florida, Haiti, Louisiana and other parts of the gulf feeling helpless.
Katrina ravaged states along the coast of the gulf making it the most expensive damage from a
natural disaster, 108 billion dollars. However, in 2017, the disasters required over three hundred
and ten billion dollars for repairs (Bowden, 2017). How will this be paid for? Will the government
have to cut budgets from other programs? Over five natural disasters have struck the United States
and surrounding countries this year. These disasters consisted of hurricanes, mudslides, wildfires,
flooding, and earthquakes. Hurricane Harvey hit approximately number major cities in... Show more

Hurricane Irma crippled Puerto Rico with one of the largest blackouts in history. CNN reported last
month that only twenty six percent of the electricity in Puerto Rico had been restored since the
hurricane ripped through in September (Levenson, 2017). It has been over three months and over
half of their population is lacking electricity and clean water. By the time Irma reached Florida, it
regained momentum and flooded Miami with over twenty inches of rain (Weather Channel, 2017).
This resulted in a state of emergency and complete shutdown of the city. Also, Orlando and Walt
Disney World experienced some aggressive winds and thunderstorms. Wildfires engulfing California
reached ten billion dollars in repair costs. This estimated cost was shared before the fires roared into
Southern California. Solutions to this continued problem could include reserving more funds into
the natural disasters budget. This would provide a safety net for the citizens of the affected state
along with the salaries of those helping such as firefighters and
The Melting Of An Ice Age
An Ice Age is a period of geologic time in which the Earth s climate sees a dramatic drop in
temperatures. This basically means that it is a lot cooler than it was in different parts of earth s
geologic history. As a matter of fact, earth is believed to be in the middle of a glaciation period
currently because of our polar ice sheets. As we know it today there were about six ice ages that
have occurred throughout the history of the earth. Glaciation periods have helped shape the earth
as we know it today and has helped humanity progress down its evolutionary track. Though it is
agreed upon that several ice ages have occurred during earth history, the cause of these cycles is
still a mystery waiting to be solved. The Huronian Glaciation or Snowball Earth is believed to be
the oldest ice agein earth s history. Roughly 2.4 to 2.1 billion years ago. During this particular ice
age, ice cover the earth from pole to pole, the entire planet was frozen, nothing could survive. Our
next two ice ages were during the Cryogenian Period, which is nicknamed the Deep Freeze
because this was the deepest cold the earth has ever experienced. The Sturtian Glaciation 750 700
million years ago, and the Varanger/Marinoan Glaciation which occurred 660 to 635 million years
ago. There is a possibly that the earth was a snowball at these glaciation periods but proof has not
been provided yet. The Andean Saharan ice age during the end of the Ordovician period and
beginning of the Silurian period

Gumbo is a dish that is made differently depending on the cultural background of the person
making it. The name gumbo, comes from the Bantu word nkombo, which stands for okra. Gumbo
is originally from Africa and was defined as a soup dish (Owens 1). Ingredients such as, chopped
onions, shrimp, andouille sausage, chicken, salt, garlic, celery, parsley, bell peppers, okra, and
roux are what make up a gumbo. Roux is a thickener for gumbo and there are many different ways
to make it. This thickener is made with flour and butter, oil or fat. Gumbo creates cultural diffusion
near the south. The way that people prepare gumbo or how popular it is depends on how far they
are from South Louisiana. Gumbo has many cultural influences such as: Western European, African,
Caribbean, and Native America (Gumbo Festivals 2). Gumbo can be made many different ways
because of these cultures. The traditional gumbo recipe includes chicken and sausage but there are
also many different seafood recipes that include shrimp, oysters, or crabs. A family that hunts
usually includes other meats such as duck or squirrel. People usually serve gumbo with a side of
potato salad which ties back to a German influence. Some Jews actually take gumbo and turn it into
their own with their culture. They make what is known as, Matzo Ball Gumbo. Matzo Ball Gumbo
is a chicken gumbo with smoked turkey bone that flavors it
