Mary Rowlandson s Demise Of The Settlers By Mary Rowlandson
Thesis Statement: Mary Rowlandson persuaded the settlers that the Indians were savages by talking
about the brutality they showed during the pillage, the cruelty towards the settlers when walking to
the camp, and the inhumanness of slaughtering children and babies.
After reading the piece by Mary Rowlandson, one can see why the settlers were persuaded that the
Indians were savage and barbaric. One may think this because of the many mentionings of how they
shot children and neglected people making them seem like animals. She also speaks about how the
Indians destroyed and burned their village. The Indians killed people inhumanely and took many
prisoners which they later neglected. This was expressed by explaining how a man met his demise,
He begged of them his life, promising them money (as they told me) but they would not hearken to
him but knocked him in the head, and stripped him naked, and split open his bowels. All of these
statements of what happened may now persuade someone to think that the Indians were savage and
brutal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rowlandson writes, Now away we must go with those barbarous creatures, with our bodies
wounded and bleeding and our hearts no less than our bodies. This shows that the Indians did not
care about the physical condition of the settlers. Also, the Indians treated the settlers poorly by not
feeding or treating to their needs. This is shown through the quote, There remained nothing to me
but one poor wounded babe, and it seemed at present worse than death. This shows that the settler
had lost all hope in surviving and thought it would be better to die than go on living. The cruelty
towards the settlers was only one of many example showing how the Indians were
Pre-College Entry Essay
Can there really be a unified theory of everything? , Stephen Hawking s concern seems to be the
most challenging question for scientists for years. The beauty of science underlies in its uncertainty
because we do not know anything for sure, we do more research to form a complete understanding
of the universe we live in. The more we understand, the less we know. Scienceseeks to explain our
physical and natural world through experimental and mathematical reasonings. That is the reason
why science is so fascinating and this is where my academic interests lie. Science has a crucial

School lab is always technologically limited, thus I always wish to get a chance to explore more
advanced technology that today is used. Furthermore, I like spending time with people whom we

Critique of Bentham s Quantitative Utilitarianism
Over time, the actions of mankind have been the victim of two vague labels, right and wrong.
The criteria for these labels are not clearly defined, but they still seem to be the standard by which
the actions of man are judged. There are some people that abide by a deontological view when it
comes to judging the nature of actions; the deontological view holds that it is a person s intention
that makes an action right or wrong. On the other hand there is the teleological view which holds
that it is the result of an action is what makes that act right or wrong. In this essay I will be dealing
with utilitarianism, a philosophical principle that holds a teleological view when it comes the nature
of actions. To solely discuss utilitarianism is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The interest of the community is said to be a sum of the total interests of its several members. It is
never specified what how exactly this total is acquired or even if the members of the community
would agree on whatever is considered the community s interest. If the members would agree then
that means that everyone in the community had the same interest to begin with. If the members
would not agree, then how can you go about adding up their conflicting interests? These interests,
when attempting to get a total seem like they would cancel each other out which wouldn t make for
much of sum total. Things of this nature (individual interests) are so relative that it would be
impossible as well as pointless to even try to place any kind of concrete value, which brings up
another point. What kind of value are these individual and community interests supposed to have? In
order to add things up they must have some sort of value. Because of Bentham s failure to offer
some sort of method for combining individuals interests and since he failed to offer some sort of
concrete value for these abstract things, his perspective on the interest of the community remains
unclear to me.
The second issue that I am going to take up lies in Bentham s method of calculating the general
tendency of an act that affects a community s interest. For starters, the process itself is too
My Primus Amor
I was staring into her green eyes as I had many times before tonight and yet something was
different about them in our dimly lit apartment that dark cloudy night. John I know you re on
something, said Margret in a tearful fiery rage, just tell me what it is before I lose my temper!
Okay, I said, I m on oxycodone. After I said that she left the room tears streaming from her face
like a dam had broken. I attempted to chase after her but in my inebriated state I fell to the floor.
As I lay there on the floor, I could not help but think of how Margret finally knew my problem. I
flashed back to the night that I had taken my first oxy with rob and how instantly hooked I was to
the substance. It made me feel so good; it took the edge off the world, took away my pain, and
cancelled out everything I did not want to focus on in this cruel world. As the flash back ended I
was once more staring back into Margret s eyes. Promise me you re going to stop these drugs, she
said. As the cliché of the drug addict goes I said, I promise you Margret that I ll quit these not
only for me but for you . Okay, she said, but no more chances after this one. Alright babe, this is
the only chance I ll need, said as I pecked her on the check then drew her into a warm embrace.
Her embrace felt like it was lacking the trust and warmth that had been there many times before. It
is surprising then that I didn t see the next series of events coming. It had been several weeks since I

Victorian London
The diagram is a depiction of loading a skipper, a small boat designed to deposit and withdraw
cargo from a large ship able to traverse large sea, whilst navy officers, distinguished by their blue
coats, are recording the results. I picked this diagram to use and relate to commerce, because the
strength in London trading lied in several aspects that are represented in the presentation. This has
clear implications and can be used to give analysis on commerce in Victorian London. In order to
demonstrate this, I would like to focus on three specific objects, and how each of them relate to
commerce, within the diagram: the containers that are being loaded, the sigil in the middle of the
picture, and the officers in the picture. The barrels that are being used contain various items judging
from the different types of containers. The explanation of the diagram does not go into detail about
what is in these containers, but notes that they come... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the sigil that represents the City of London, which is the inner and distinct city, similar to the
relationship of Vatican City and Rome. There are two important things about this fact: the first being
that the City of London is the epicenter for international trade and commerce and the relationship
between commerce and the picture indicates that the cargo is inspected there. The City of London is
the area in London where commerce and trade were negotiated; this is in part due to its own tax
system that tries to incentivize working their; the museum included the detailed sigil then to
demonstrate the importance of commerce on the City of London. Another reason this sigil is
included is because, until the 19th century, The Port of London handled all shipping. The creators of
the diagram, then, wanted the museum goer to recognize the importance of commerce upon the City
of London by including this
Analysis Of The Use Of Lighting In The Godfather Essay
I am writing about the use of lighting in the opening scene of The Godfather, (1). The
photography of The Godfather as an entire film is very planned and used specifically to
generate moods, and have great psychological affect. This is just as true for the very first series of
shots for the film, and perhaps more important since these first shots will give the audience the initial
feeling of the film, and set a tone for the picture. The first shot is highly dramatic in its lighting
method, and the audience is drawn in immediately to one single detail. A man begins revealing the
details of a tragic incident that befell his daughter. We don t see who he is talking to. There is a
spotlight directly above the man, and this is pretty much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This highlight area of his eye is the part of the frame which has the greatest contrast, so naturally
the audience is drawn directly into this man s stare, and this is also achieved by having the man
look right at the camera. As he speaks, the camera slowly pulls out and then we start to see a
slight increase in the surrounding detail of the scene. We can now see part of the back and side
of the Godfather, (Marlon Brando) but still we have only a slight highlight on his side, and no
detail. Now the man gets up and moves to Brando s side, and he too is in complete shadow; we
can only really make out the fact that there are two figures present here, no more. Then the shot
changes as the man leaves the Godfather s side, and it is a revealing frontal MCU of Brando.
This shot is lit much more than the previous shot. Where the other shot s background was pitch
black, this shot is lit so that almost the whole space and all objects in it are visible. Brando has a
key, fill and backlight on him, and his character is revealed with much intensity because of the
dramatic light change from shot to shot. When the shot comes back to the man, in an over the
shoulder (Brando) style, again the backround is totally black. Having the man in that particular
lighting, and having Brando lit the way he is serves two psychological purposes. First, having the
constant black background behind the man isolates his problem and makes us aware of how
consumed he is with his problem.
Does Technology Go the Right Way and Will It Save or Ruin...
Does technology go the right way and will it save or ruin our civilization?
Abstract:
It is believed that the human race exists on earth about 200,000 years, first originating in Africa, but
now they inhabit every continent, with a total population of over 6.5 billion people as of 2007. In
addition, with the humans occupying the planet, natural resources extinct, pollution increases,
technology grows. In today s fast paced world, technological progress, changes, and advances are
happening everyday. Occasionally, the technological progress, changes, and advances are both good
and bad. Furthermore, human race faces extinction threats and issues, which pulls out a question if
we can save the world or not. The planet Earth is a massive place; ... Show more content on

Health harming is being caused by mobile phones, because there is radiation, which leads to
consequences such as headaches, earaches, blurring of vision and even causing cancer. Even
though these problems are still under research, mobile phone users are advised to reduce the
usage on mobile phones if it is possible. There is also presence of less and less privacy respected
with the use of computers and internet. Today, it is very easy for many people to get into your
personal computer, e mail addresses, history of websites used, in order to find out immense
number of information, which can be later be used for personal gain. This is also a case with
cameras, either mobile phone cameras, computer cameras, and classical cameras, where intimacy is
no more respected. What is even more important is that with technological progress there are more
and more machinery, there is less need for human labor, which brings poverty, leaves people
without jobs, unemployment is growing, but it still does not affect the economy because the
progress can be even better and more efficient with the development of the industry. There are less
and less farmers, because of the huge use of technological machinery who can perform better for
less cost and lower time. This is really affecting many societies and cultures. However, it

Flash Drive Advantages And Disadvantages
What is a USB Flash Drive? The term USB stands for Universal Serial Bus and is used to define a
special kind of connection between a computer and other electronic devices. The connections can
serve different purposes ranging from power supply to communication. A USB flash drive is a
storage device that acts as a portable hard drive, but generally has a much more limited capability
in comparison. As mentioned, their purpose is to store digital information and to transfer
information between systems. Other popular names used for these devices include; USB drive,
USB stick, thumb drive and memory stick. Advantages of using USBs (at least 4) USBs have an
assortment of advantages associated with them. They are extremely portable, allowing for
information to be easily carried around and relocated. This can go a long way for jobs and school
projects, as it allows work to be taken home for further use. Another great advantage is their ease
of use, as they are extremely simple to use and are extremely fast at storing information. This could
come in handy in emergencies where information needs to be saved urgently. An example of this,
although extreme, would be in the case of an evacuation, whether that is a fire or some other
emergency. This work could quickly be stored onto a USB so it is saved. USBs are also extremely
compatible, as most modern computers are designed to include USB access. This allows an almost
universal transferability of information between computers, excellent

Think back. In 1970, few Japanese companies possessed the resource base, manufacturing volume,

Authorship, Audience And Genre Of The Gospel Of Matthew
1.Authorship, audience and genre of the Gospel of Matthew
Authorship:
Most scholars, but not R.T. France (2007, pp14 22), believe that Matthew s Gospel was written by a
scribe, not the Apostle Matthew and that it was written approximately between AD 80 90. France
states that if the book was written at this time it was within Matthew s lifetime, and thus authorship
cannot be proven.
A key reason pointing to the Gospel being written by a scribe is that the Gospel was written in
Greek and that the author is very familiar with the Hebrew Bible, connecting his five discourses with
Hebrew Scriptures. Even though tax collectors, like Matthew, were known to be literate it is not
necessarily true that they would be fluent in Hebrew, Aramaic ... Show more content on

The tell the story of Jesus birth, Passion, Death and Resurrection.
The direct teachings of Jesus give instructions of how to live as Christians and the Parables were
used in the Gospel to immediately confront us with a truth and evoke a change. (Fee Stuart,2003, p.
152). The five major discourses of Matthew s Gospel are centred around five lengthy Sermons
using parables to make a point and call the people to make a change.
2.Brief synopsis of Matthew 16:13 23
Matthew 16: 13 23 is the confession of Peter of Jesus true identity and the Prophecy of Jesus death
and resurrection.
In previous chapters, the real identity of Jesus is unknown the crowds wonder if he is the Son of
David (Matt 12:23), the disciples previously said that he was the Son of God (Matt 8:29, 14:33)
and Jesus himself identifies himself as the Son of Man (Matt 10: 23; 2:8; 12:40) and even likening
himself to a Prophet (Matt 13:57).
In Chapter 16, Jesus asked His disciples who people said He was, and who they, His disciples,
think He was. This comes at a point of time where the disciples have been witness to the Pharisees
and Sadducees wanting to test Jesus (Matt 16:1) and Jesus refusal to do so and when Jesus told
them to beware of the teachings of the Pharisees and Sadducees (Matt 16:12).
It is here that Simon Peter answers You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God (Matt 16:13 16).
Jesus acknowledges this truth and tells Peter that the only way he could
