Hungry Bird Short Story
The Hungry Bird
Good Morning ladies and gentlemen. May I have your attention please? Passengers travelling on
Emirates flight EK 547 flying to Dubai may proceed to board the aircraft. The time is finally up!
Excitement exploded as if an extinct volcano erupted all of a sudden. I hurriedly walked through
the boarding bridge with each atom bomb erupting into excitement, as I took each step towards
the aircraft. Hello, and welcome aboard, may I see your boarding pass please? said a beautiful
looking angel in a sweet voice. I was ushered to my seat with my seat belt fastened. Ladies and
gentlemen, I kindly request you to take your seats and fasten your seatbelts as we are preparing for
take off. Cabin Crew prepare for take off. Contentment reached to its highest peak but eventually
turned into a moment of stomping heartbeats as I felt myself go all the way up, up and above.
Cabin crew prepare for landing, and a few minutes later welcome to Dubai International Airport,
where the local time is 8.am in the morning and the outside temperature is 86 degrees Fahrenheit.
Hooray, it s finally here! My nerves charged up and lit me bright from the inside like a fluorescent
bulb. I went out of the airport to the bus waiting outside. It felt like I was thrown into a planet
outside of the universe. What an exotic view! The tall buildings stared at me with their frightening
shadows casted over me like cops surrounding a criminal. An amazing fact was that the authentic

The Similarities Of Films Who Does Not Love A Great...

The Similarities of Films Who does not love a great comedy film. I know that comedy is my
favorite genre. When thinking about comedies or comedians one person comes to mind, Will
Ferrell. In some people s opinion he is the best comedian actor. Will Ferrell just so happen to be in a
comedy partnership with director Adam McKay. McKay is responsible for over 20 films. There are
three films that I am particularly fond of The Other Guys, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
, and Step Brothers.
ĀAdam McKay does not single handedly write his movies. Like I said, he and Ferrell are in a
partnership and co write movies together. Adams movies tend to be a mean or not appropriate for
children. When did comedies start saying four letter words every other sentence. The times have
changed that is for sure. I would be lying if I said I was shocked. I would also be lying if I said I
had no taste, or judgment of comic strategy. Because, like I said I am very fond of these movies.
Adam s films have a lot in common including his own partner. Will Ferrell plays the main
character in most of McKay s films. In fact, he is the main character in all three of the films that I
have chosen. So it may that I just like movies with Will Ferrell. Adam McKay has a tendency to
starting off his movies with a quote, and of course he works with Will.
In the movie Stepbrothers, an American buddy slapstick comedy which stars Will Ferrell and
In The Lake Of The Woods Literary Analysis
Throughout Tim O Brien s, In The Lake Of The Woods, the nature of love is mysterious. This is
demonstrated throughout the novel by presenting several characters with mysterious backgrounds,
deploying an unknown narrator, and leaving the end of the book on a cliffhanger. All of these
elements come together to show that the nature of loveis pure mystery. The main character, John
Wade, is full of mystery. As a child, he was extremely interested in magic. He even relied on it as
a coping mechanism when his father died. As an adult, his interest in magic didn t fade. When he
was in the army, his nickname was Sorceror. Once in the army, John Wade began not only to hide
the secrets of his magic, but also secrets of his personal life. Once he came back from the war, this
habit only got worse. The narrator of the novelalso exhibits mystery. Nobody knows who he is, or
why he is telling this story. His purpose could be considered just as much of a mystery as what
happened to Kathy. Lastly, the ending of the book clearly exudes mystery, since there is never an
answer confirming what happened to Kathy.
The mystery of the narrator is almost as important as what happened to Kathy. Even though the
narrator tells a large part of the story, there is no mention of who he really is. The narrator clearly
knows every intimate detail about John and Kathy s relationship, and knows tons about John and his
childhood as well. Although we know that this person knows all of this information, we have
Asa Score Essay
Our study validates that the Perioperative Risk Assessment Score using patient s characteristics
and urgency of the surgical procedure can reliably predict postoperative mortality. In addition, we
show that despite a good prediction of mortality, the ASA score has a large range of
intervariability that may limit its use as shown in figure 4. Developed in 1941, the American
Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) classification was created to establish a scoring system (I to
V) for the evaluation of a patient s general health and comorbidities immediately before an
operative procedure. (Sakad, Keats) This score is designed to identify surgical patients at risk for
developing postoperative complications, taking into account the patient s physical state and
neglecting the surgical impact (type, complexity and urgency). It has been established as a
significant predictive factor for perioperative risk assessment, perioperative mortality, complication
rates, and postoperative outcomes in multiple surgical specialties. ( Menke, Wolters, Prause,
Conners) Similarly, our data shows a good predictability of mortality by the ASA PS. It has
undergone slight modification by the ASA to a scale of 6 numbers and is now widely used for
preoperative... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the ASA PS has a wide variability leading to inconsistencies between anesthesiologists
that may lead to incorrect clinical assessment and over or under estimation of financial revenue.
(Haynes, Owens). Levels of agreement between anesthesiologist for the ASA PS classes range from
40% to 60%. (Mak) In other words, they are equally likely to disagree or agree on a particular ASA
class for a patient. The wide range of variability is shown in figure 4. Therefore, although the ASA
PS score can be predictive of mortality and outcomes, its variability calls for a more precise risk
assessment score similar to the BAL.

Clinical Manifestation Of Parkinson s Disease
Clinical Manifestation of Parkinson s Disease
The main clinical manifestation that Mr. Cane has presented with can be identified through
assessing the pathophysiology of PD. When assessing the case study in Appendix A, the clinical
presentation that he is displaying includes bradykinesia, tremor, and rigidity.
Bradykinesia is the slowness in movement and is the most distinctive presentation of PD, presenting
in 80 percent patients. Bradykinesia is theorized to be caused by dysfunction in the basal ganglia and
the deficiency of dopamine. The basal ganglia is no longer able to reinforce cortical mechanism
associated with beginning, initiating or completing movements. This is due to the fact that the basal
ganglia is involved with such functions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cane is also experiencing such symptoms as dysarthria, diminished blinking and hypomimia. These
clinical manifestations are caused by the bradykinesia he is experiencing. In dysarthria, the
dysfunction of the basal ganglia from decreased dopaminergic neurons. This dysfunction causes for
disruptions to occur with the muscular control in relation to speech. Dysphagia occurs with PD as
well, although Mr. Cane was not noted to have this symptom, it is possible that his dehydration and
poor nutritional intake occurred because of difficulties with swallowing. A patient can often be
unaware that they are having difficulties in their swallowing, therefore this is an important area to
assess for patients (Tjaden, 2008). Hypomimia occurs due to the effects of bradykinesia. The
impairments caused in the motor cortex of the brain cause for this reduced ability for facial
Wilfred Owen s War Poetry Essay
Wilfred Owen s War Poetry
If Wilfred Owen s war poetry had one main aim, it would be to expose
the old lie : that war is always a good and justified thing and that it is a good thing to die for one s
country. Owen had experienced first hand the horrors and tragedies of the First World War, so he
inevitably wanted to break open the false façade and let the world know the truth. I am going to
explore what I find to be three of his best poems and show how he achieved this aim.
Owen was born on the 18th of March 1893 in Shropshire, England. He received a good education as
a child and in 1915 he enlisted in the army when he was 22 years old. He was injured in a shell
explosion in
France and transferred to a war hospital back in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Herbert Asquith wrote The Volunteer which was one of the most romanticised war poems of all
time. It was about a young boy in a city grey with no lance broken , who goes to join the army. He
dies but lies content and euphemistically goes to join the Men of Agincourt . These poems are
incredibly full of euphemisms of war and mention no words like pain or death . But when poets who
thought they could find glory and honour in war actually arrived at the battlefields everything
changed and the anti war poems begun.
Dulce Et Decorum Est is arguably Wilfred Owen s most famous poem. It uses very figurative
language in order to describe the horrors of a gas attack on a few men while they are marching
towards their distant rest . It is split up into three parts. The first part describes the
men marching asleep towards their distant rest . The second part describes the gas attack. Most of
them manage to get their gas masks on, but one man fumbles and drowns . In the third part Owen
describes the horror of walking behind the wagon they flung him into and watching him slowly and
painfully dying. He then addresses Jessie
Pope as my friend and tells her that of she had seen what he saw; she would not tell the
A Hero Is A True Hero
Is someone fighting in a war a hero, or is a man flying around with a cape in a movie? As people
grow and change so does their definition of a hero. A hero is any person who does the right thing.
Children think of heroes as superheroes with crazy powers, but a best friend, or a neighbor could be
a true hero. A hero does not run away from a challenge, and is not a coward. At times heroes do not
even notice that they are a hero. In a person s life they will meet dozens of heroes everyday, but not
even know. Even when no one is watching, a hero does the right thing, puts others before
themselves, and always accepts a challenge.
All heroes do the right thing even when no one is watching. A hero will not bully or make fun of
people to their face or behind their back. A hero is that kid that will help pick up books when
someone drops them, not to feel good but to do the right thing. Paramedics save lives everyday,
just to save lives not for the reward. That is what makes a true hero. In an interview with McCall
magazine, Oliver Stone says Scientists who spend years of their lives trying to find cures for
diseases. The teenager who says no to crack. The inner city kid who works at McDonald s instead
of selling drugs. The kid who stands alone instead of joining a gang, which would give him an
instant identity (Stone 74). All of those people are doing the right thing. The teenager is saving his
own life, the kid working at McDonald s is stopping others from overdosing. The kid who stood
alone saved his own and other lives, because gangs kill. Everyone can be a hero.
Additionally a hero puts others lives before his or her own. Police and other first responders go to
the place they have to not knowing if they will live or die, just wanting to help whoever needs it.
Firefighters run in burning buildings with only one goal in mind, rescuing the person in the
building. The dad in the military trying to protect his country and family is another hero. Abraham
lincoln helped america develop and got the country through dark times. He freed the slaves not
worrying of being killed. In O Captain, My Captain, Whitman says, The ship is anchored safe and
sound, its voyage closed and done; 20From fearful trip the victor ship comes

Andrew Anderson s film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, The Wardrobe starts off
with four siblings who are escaping from the air strikes of World War II. The children escape to an
old man s mansion where they find a wardrobe that has a magical doorway to a mystical land called
Narnia. While they are walking in Narnia their brother wonders off and finds the evil White Witch
who lures him in through gluttony away from the siblings. The others find out more about the
mysterious land through other talking animals and eventually make their way into a camp. The
camp they find has the protector of the land as their leader Aslan; Aslan is the savior of Narnia
from the evil White Witch. Toward the end of the film, a battle occurs between Aslan s followers
and the White Witch s army; needless to say, Aslan s side won and defeated the evil White Witch.
After the battle, the siblings were crowned Kings and Queens of Narnia in place of Aslan, so
Aslan himself can help other worlds. The end of the movie occurs, when the children are adults
now, and they stumble across the other side of the wardrobe where they go back to the age they
were before discovering Narnia. The film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The
Wardrobe by Andrew Adamson demonstrate the humankind s redemption through character and
plot. Anyone who has seen The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe
Use Of The Abacus Script By Leiden Huber And Denise Tran
How to Use the Abacus Script
Created By: Leiden Huber and Denise Tran
Leiden: Hi. Today we are going to show you how to use the abacus and tell you a couple
background details about it too.
Denise: The abacus is also known as the saunpan (calculating pan) and was created by a
mathematician named Cheng Dawei. He created it during the Ming Dynasty which was in reign
from 1368 1644 B.C. and is known as the Fifth Invention of China. The Chinese abacus is very
similar to the Roman abacus and was thought to be influenced by it.
Leiden: The typical abacus is about 20 centimeters high and comes in varying widths depending
on how many rods it has (usually has 7 or more rods). Its beads are usually rounded and made of
hardwood making them able to last for a long time. Lastly, the most important fact to know about
the abacus is that is has 2 beads in the in the upper deck which have a value of 5 and 5 beads in the
lower deck which each have a value of 1.
Denise: The bars outside of our abacus is called the frame and the bar separating the top and
bottom row is called the beam. Each section is also called a deck. These are very important terms to
know when talking about the abacus.
Leiden: Now you know some facts about the abacus history; next we ll show you now to do basic
calculations using the abacus. The first form of calculation I will show you how to do is adding
on the abacus. This one is very basic and you should be able to do it in no time. Before you start

Drinkable Book Essay
What is the drinkable book? How does it work? Why was it made? The drinkable book is a
manual that gives safe water tips and is a tool to kill waterborne diseases that can be deadly. This
book was created by Dr. Theresa Dankovich and her team at McGill University in Montreal. It is
in a variety of language and teaching methods. With this product it can provide user water for
four years. The message that is printed on the paper in many different languages is The water in
your village may contain deadly diseases. But each page of this book is a paper water filter that
will make it safe to drink. All you have to do is tear a piece out of the book, hold it over a pot or
some other container, and then just pour the water over it. The paper is made up of silver
nanoparticles, which are lethal for microbes. Dr. Theresa says that at first it was meant to be an

Analysis Of Dream Machines By Will Wright
In the article, Dream Machines (211), Will Wright presents an article about how machines and
technology affect society today. However, instead of taking a negative view of how technology
influences people s lives, the considers the positive effects on the population and how machines are
allowing us to better develop the world. I found that most of his arguments and examples, such as
how video games improve reaction times, were outdated and boring expressions. Many articles have
debated these arguments, however I did find his view on personalization quite relevant. His article
brought up two points that are usually not noticed in other articles. First he talks about how playing
video games is a lot different from watching someone play... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Using persuasive writing, Wright begins to influence his audience that game play is a beneficial
source of entertainment not a wasteful one. Playing video games increases creatively, self esteem
and improve problem solving skills of the players. Video games are becoming test runs that appear
or feel close to the real thing. Where you can control everything with added effects like magic or
future technology. Games have the potential to exceed almost all other forms of entertainment
media. They tell stories, play music, challenge us, allow us to instantly communicate and interact
with others. Encourage us to create things, connect us to new communities, and let us play with
people across the world. Unlike most other forms of media, games are inherently tangible.
According to Wright young children spend their days in imaginary worlds, substituting toys and
make believe into the real world that they are just beginning to explore and understand. Wright
states that games are the result of imagination and that they consist of rules and goals. Generation
of teenagers has grown up with different set of games. Teenagers use the scientific method rather
than reading the manual first. Games today maybe a person s only place to express a high level of
creativity and growth. Older generations have a lot of criticisms for games, the games can help a
person learn to think on his or her own.
Will Wright s article Dream Machine took a stand for video games. Will
Brooke Gladstone s The Influencing Machine
In, The Influencing Machine, author Brooke Gladstone explains that the changing media does not
change our brains if we do not let it. This goes against all the fears of technology thus far,
essentially making us humans the artificial intelligence. Take, for instance, a schizophrenic. When
they do not take their medicine dark and twisty thoughts are allowed to creep up inside their
heads. Alot of times they see and hear things that are not actually there. This makes them feel like
somebody, or some outside force is causing all of the problems. In actuality, it is themselves. Now,
take something that is a bit more relatable to people. Say you are walking down the street and see a
registered sex offender. Alot of people dont want to see that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They were afraid the words and symbols were too complex for the human mind and it would
cause their brains to become too overloaded with information. When the children grew up, they
would ultimately find themselves in the insane asylum. In 1613 Barnaby Rich spoke that books
overcharged the world to where the information from everyday would not be able to be
comprehended. Then, the alphabet was feared that it would cause forgetfulness. People would
essentially trust the written words more than they would orally and it would cause problems.
Danny Crichton, in his article, Fear Not The Robot, tells that this fear is typical. It is like a
revolving door. Every few years the fears come back. Typically they are caused by books and
articles. Google s self driving cars have driven almost a million miles. People are suggesting that
their next invention will be self driving diesels. Then the fear is that the response system will not
be up to par and vehicle accidents will increase ten fold. Along with that, jobs will be put in
jeopardy. Taxi drivers will be slowly laid off, and truck drivers will be plucked
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Traffic Control
DENSITY BASED TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEM A new density based traffic control system is
described here, which is capable of detecting, counting, and controlling vehicles, thereby reducing the
traffic congestion. Before explaining about the proposed system, some of the existing traffic control
methods and their disadvantages are described below.
4.1 EXISTING TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEMS
In real world there are many traffic controlling schemes established already. These schemes are
described below.
4.1.1Manual Controlling
This is the simplest form of traffic control. As the name indicates it require man power to control
the traffic. Depending on the countries and states the traffic polices are allotted for a required area
or city to control the traffic by analyzing the traffic conditions. A traffic police stands in the middle
of road and monitors flow of traffic. The traffic polices will have things like sign board, sign light
and whistle to control the traffic. In time of congestion he gives signals to the vehicle driver
whether to drive or stop. He is also able to recognize emergency case, so he can choose which lane
needs more priority than other.
4.1.2Automatic Timer Control ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This system includes simple three color traffic signal. A fixed time is allotted for each lane. The
lights are automatically getting ON and OFF depending on the timer value changes. While using
electrical sensors it will capture the availability of the vehicle and signals on each phase, depending
on the signal the lights automatically switch ON and OFF. Before green light, yellow light flashes
for few second, signifying to start your vehicle and be ready to go. For all the time red light is on,
ordering each vehicle to stop. This method is efficient than manual controlling
