Dealing with Learning Disabilities Essay
Dealing with Learning Disabilities
He ll know things one day, but not the next . She is seeing or writing words or numbers backwards.
She has difficulty grasping simple concepts . These are comments made by teachers who have
classified certain students in their classroom as having the unfortunate burden of a learning
disability. A learning disability is a disorder in one or more of the basic psychological processes
involved in understanding or in using language, spoken or written, which may manifest itself in an
imperfect ability to listen, think, speak, read, write, spell, or do mathematical calculations (Metzger,
1983, p7). Students with learning disorders may exhibit difficulty learning in a number of ways.

Researching deeper into the definition, the more specific term adaptive technology means any item,
piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or
customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals
with a disability (Braswell, 2001,p1). Assistive technology has been making it possible for
children with disabilities to do more for themselves and become less dependent on others. For
example, a child who cannot use her hands can operate a computer with a switch and an on screen
keyboard. A child with speech problems can communicate using a portable electronic device that
speaks . These are just a few of the examples of the wide variety of adaptive equipment that is
available today.
Fortunately for the disabled students of the new millennium, adaptive technology has greatly
improved. Technological developments have been emerging since the early 1900 s, but looking
back on the past twenty years, adaptive technology has come a long way. In 1988, Retail point of
sale devices began to use picture based keyboards. This technology was originally developed in the
mid 1960 s to enable people to speak using a keyboard, computer, and speech synthesizer (Jacob,
1999). Today, these picture based keyboards enable retail establishments to employ individuals, who,
for one reason or

Sociological Accounts on Individuals Acquiring Their Identities
The concept of identity has been defined as A sense of self that develops as the child differentiates
from parents and family and takes a place in society (Jary and Jary, 1991.) Through the process of
socialization, individuals acquire their identities, but this issue cause different understandings
according to sociological accounts. Here, I will show these accounts, and make an analysis
understood by me.
The definition refers to the sense that some one has or who they are, of what is most important about
them. Important sources of identities are likely to include nationality, ethnicity, sexuality
(homosexual, heterosexual, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Symbolic Interactionism
Symbolic Interactionism sees the actor as more active in acquiring an identity. It claim to society
has a range of diverse social roles and identities (e.g. the roles of students and teachers). Every role
has certain behaviours, and certain rules. However, these roles can change. Symbolic Interactionism
sees identities as more flexible.
The issue is interactionists underestimate the range of human behaviours which are restricted. The
fact is not so ideal as what they image. Things can be changed, but not all the things can, or not all
the people can change certain things. What s more, they ignore the identity of structural reasons (e.g.
the unequal right between male and female) in shaping the society.
Marxism
Marxism points most societies are based on exploitation of some groups by others. Those who own
the mean of production (ruling class) exploit those who work for them, who lack the means to
produce things themselves (subject class). (Haralambos and Holborn, Sociology Themes and
Perspectives AS and A Level Student Handbook , chapter 1, p2)
Marxists do not agree with functionalism and interactionism for underestimating the importance of
power to impose roles. They emphasizes the class differences in people acquiring their identities, but
ignore other important source of identity such as, gender, sexuality, age, etc.
Moreover, Marxism
Rhetorical Analysis Of Dodge Ram Trucks
Dodge Ram Trucks, a division of the Chrysler Group created in 2009, focused on the public needs
with the pickup truck. In a male dominated truck industry, approximately 11% of pickup trucks in
the United States are registered to females. With such a small number of percentage of women truck
owners, Ram debuted a television advertisement. In 2015, during the 141st Kentucky Derby to
appeal to female buyers. By doing so, they inspired women to break the stereotypes, specifically the
male dominated truckindustry. Through its carefully incorporated narration, Ram appeals to the
courage of women through aural and visual techniques and utilizes specific examples of females,
who overcame obstacles in their profession, to provide further inspiration and create a valuable
rhetorical commercial.
Ram s advertisement immediately begins by utilizing logos and pathos to embolden women to fight
against stereotypes. First, the commercial s narration uses a series of repetitive rhetorical questions
to inspire the audacious emotions of the audience. Ram repeats have you ever thought multiple times
to capture the female viewer s attention. This technique establishes an understanding and inviting
tone that prepares the viewer for Ram s overarching message. Next, allowing the viewer to ponder
these rhetorical questions, Ram briefly pauses the narration. Following this pause, Ram articulates
their message: You can break a stereotype and throw it into a whole nother gear. Because
Choosing An Online Survey And Collect Responses
Instead of interviewing four people, I decided to make an online survey and collect responses
because I was at home for Thanksgiving. As a result I got more responses, and I think people were
more honest as well. I also allowed for the respondents to choose whether they have majority or
minority status. I had nine responses, three identifying as minoritystatus, five as majority status, and
one student who was not sure, since he/she/they fell into multiple target groups but reported that she
didn t experience any discrimination. There were some interesting discrepancies, since one female
student reported that she was a minority, and another reportedly felt she was in the majority. At RIT,
the distribution of gender differs by program, so this could be a reason why this discrepancy exists.
None of the students who identified themselves as having majority status reported experiencing any
discrimination themselves, and neither did the one female student who identified as a minority but
fell into no other target groups. One respondent, a self identified conservative, Catholic white male
chose to identify as a minority group. I thought this made sense since college campuses tend to be
liberal, so conservatives are sometimes considered to be minorities. I thought about adding a
checkbox for ideological minorities to my target group list when I first made my survey, but I was
concerned that anyone might have a reason to check that box, since everyone s ideologies vary to

Marathon Essay
Topic: How to train for a marathon?
Marathon defines any long distance race. Marathon training is about personal challenge, but should
be fun and enjoyable. A marathon will help you discover the strengths you never knew you had.
Training for a marathon is important in daily life because running is the easiest sport in the world
and testing your body s limits pushes people to go further and further. There are three way training
for a marathon such as maintain proper nutrition, train smart and safe and has a good physical and
mental.
First of all, nutrition is very importance to train for a marathon because it will bring full of the
power and performance to the runners. The runners must take the balance diet and cannot skip

Firstly set a personal goal and establish a focus utensil is an important process. This is because it
helps to estimate and overcome own weaknesses. By setting a sharp, clear and precise target that can
be measured and proud of achieving these targets. This help to see what may have previously
appeared to be a long meaningless grind. So, improve self confidence helps to recognize own ability
and competence in achieving the goals that had set (Pavey,n.d.). Other than that, mental training is
also important for a marathon runner. Mental skills can contribute to the success and committed to
becoming the best beyond limits. These skills can be improved with instruction and practice.
Marathoner must have these mental skills: maintain a positive attitude, self motivation, positive self
talk, effective management of emotions, stay focused. These skills will help marathoner can ride out
the storm and arduous task to gain experience and become well prepared for every match. At the
same time, better physical training will help marathoner become well prepared. Before running,
marathoner should warm up to avoid injury. In fact, the injured runner statistics each year is 66%
which is higher than the professional football (Fitzgerald, 2014). Warm up will increase the
structural strength of bones, ligaments, tendons and muscles ability to withstand the impact of
Performance Enhancing Drugs In Baseball
Imagine being able to take a drug that enhances your performance at work so much that you are
rewarded with a raise. A drug that could land you the job of your dreams and give you the
competitive edge needed to beat out the rest of the competition. Drugs in baseball have been around
since the early days of the game. From steroids to stimulates, baseballplayers have been willing to
put anything in their bodies if it ll help them stay in the show for a few years longer and keep
those paychecks coming in. Now, the question is, do these performance enhancing drugs ruin the
integrity and sportsmanship in the game of baseball? How many good baseball players didn t get a
job on a Major League team because their competition accelerated their abilities... Show more

Many would argue the game peaked during the 1998 home run race between Mark McGwire and
Sammy Sosa. This race jump started the sport and began to heal the tension that brewed between
the game and its fans after the cancelation of the 1994 World Series. Of course, this home run race
was not the only reason fans came back to the game. The anticipation to see one of the greatest
pitchers of all time in Rodger Clemens, one of the most talented baseball players of all time in
Barry Bonds, and sluggers such as Jason Giambi and Jose Canseco, were surely going to draw a
large viewing. Each of these players has had some connection to performance enhancing drugs.
We can sit here writing articles and opinion pieces arguing why performance enhancing drugs
should or should not be allowed in this sport, but there is no argument when it comes to the stats
and when we, as fans, have witnessed the best baseball to ever be played. Any fan of the game
will admit that one of the best things in sports is a homerun. In 1996, 17 players hit 40 or more
homeruns. In 2008, only two players hit 40 or more homeruns (Rymer 2013). We are seeing
better, more exciting baseball during the steroid era, which is considered to take place from the
end of the 80 s and continued through the 2000 s, than we ll ever see during any other era of
baseball. Players are hitting more homeruns, while pitchers are throwing their best balls when
they re in there 40s (Pantuosco 2011). PEDs should be allowed in baseball because first, we, as fans,
get to see a higher competition level while players are on such drugs. Second, these drugs create an
even playing field for all players. And third, do we as fans even care if these athletes take these
A Reflection On The Inequality In The Classroom
Feedback was provided throughout all parts of the assessment. If the students did something
correctly, they had words of encouragement by their work. This helps to show the students their
strengths in the assessment. Some of the problems they did well on had an extension with their
feedback such as how would their inequality look on a number line.
Student 1 struggled with placing integers on the number line. The feedback provided at this part of
the assessment said, Is 3 further away from 0 than 5? and to try using a vertical number line to help
them. By using a vertical number line, the student could relate it back to the exploratory activity
when the students saw that when an object was underwater, it was a negative amount. Student 1 did
very well writing the inequality for a given sentence and writing a sentence for a given inequality. On
the part where they were writing the inequality for the given sentence, the feedback says, Great job!
How could you show this on a number line? This is letting the student know that they are doing this
correctly and it is connecting to the number line which is something to student is struggling with. By
connecting the inequality to the number line, the student may be able to fix their misconception.
Student 1 was able to answer the first two word problems correctly. The feedback provided for the
word problem involving temperature asked the student how the integers would look on a number
line. This, again, takes something that the
The Consequences Of Julius Jones And The Jonestown Massacre
All across America, television sets display nine hundred and nine dead bodies. These bodies, in
aluminum coffins, came over to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. Tax payers were irate at
possibly having to pay for all the embalming and burial costs ( The Horror, 28). Embalming and
burial costs are expensive and many people lost sympathy for cultmembers. So, people opposed
paying for the consequences of the Jonestown massacre.
Jim Jones realized he was losing control over the People s Temple, leading to the Jonestown
massacre. Then in 1975, he uprooted his followers and isolated them in Jonestown, Guyana. Jones
began instructing his followers to commit a revolutionary suicide (Twemlow 224). The People s
Temple s actions concerned many family members and outsiders, which sparked Congressman Leo
Ryan s involvement. Congressman Leo Ryan and some reporters were on a mission to rescue
Americans from Jonestown. On November 18, 1978, Jim Jones was paranoid that his reign over
Jonestown would come crashing down when some of his followers went with Congressman Ryan.
Jones used a mass suicide to remain in control. Many people of Jonestown drank the poisonous
Kool Aid. When people resisted, Jones loyal followers injected hesitant followers with the poison.
Jones ordered the murder of Congressman Ryan and was responsible for the deaths of nine hundred
and nine Americans. Jim Jones constructed the Jonestown massacre by advertising false promises,
instilling fear, and blackmailing his
