Method Statement For Electrical Works
Project: RASEEN REJAN HILLS
1. Scope of Work
This method statement covers all electrical works for a residential villa project, including
but not limited to conduit installation, cabling, wiring, termination, distribution board setup,
low current systems, earthing/grounding, testing, commissioning, and final handover.
The objective is to ensure high-quality electrical installations that comply with international
standards (IEC, NEC), local authority requirements, and project specifications.
2. Materials and Tools
The electrical materials and tools required include:
- Conduits (PVC, EMT, flexible metallic)
- Electrical wires (copper, PVC insulated)
- Junction boxes, pull boxes, and distribution boards (DBs)
- Main circuit breakers (MCBs, MCCBs, ELCBs, RCCBs)
- Switches and sockets (13A, 2-way, dimmers)
- Cable trays, trunking, and accessories
- Earthing rods, copper tapes, earth wires (green/yellow)
- Data and telecom cables (Cat6, coaxial, telephone)
- CCTV and intercom cables and devices
- Testing equipment: multimeter, megger, earth tester, LAN tester
- Hand tools: pliers, strippers, drill, hammers, screwdrivers
- Safety gear: PPE (helmet, gloves, shoes, goggles)
All materials must be approved by the consultant prior to installation.
3. Conduit Installation
The installation of conduits is critical for protecting and routing electrical wiring.
Procedure:
1. Survey and mark all conduit routes on site according to approved shop drawings. Ensure
that there are no conflicts with other services.
2. Use appropriate tools to cut, bend, and prepare conduits to the exact measurements.
3. Use couplers, locknuts, and bushings to connect conduits.
4. Install junction boxes at every change in direction exceeding 90°, and every 10 meters in
a straight run.
5. Conduits should be supported by saddles at intervals not exceeding 1 meter.
6. Ensure vertical and horizontal runs are plumb and level.
7. Where conduits pass through walls or slabs, provide sleeves and seal with firestop if
needed.
8. After installation, label conduit paths for future maintenance access.
4. Cable Pulling and Termination
1. Ensure conduits are clean and free of dust or obstruction. Clean using compressed air or
conduit rods.
2. Pull cables using fish tape or cable pulling tools. Avoid excessive force to prevent
insulation damage.
3. Apply cable lubricant if pulling over long distances or through multiple bends.
4. Cables must be tagged and labeled at both ends using ferrules or heat shrink labels.
5. Strip cable ends using wire strippers. Ensure copper strands are intact.
6. Use proper cable lugs for terminations, and crimp securely using a calibrated tool.
7. Tighten all terminations with torque tools to avoid loose connections.
8. Avoid mixing conductors of different voltages in the same conduit.
9. Maintain correct color coding (Red/Yellow/Blue for phases, Black for neutral,
Green/Yellow for earth).
5. Distribution Board Installation
1. Verify DB size and ratings match the load schedule.
2. Install DBs at locations indicated in drawings. Height from finished floor level should be
1.5m unless otherwise specified.
3. Fix DBs to the wall using bolts and ensure level installation.
4. Breakers should be arranged in a logical manner (e.g. by floor, room type, or function).
5. Connect incoming and outgoing wires with proper terminals, isolators, and earth bars.
6. Ensure phase balance is maintained across circuits.
7. Prepare a DB schedule showing circuit names, loads, and breaker sizes.
8. Affix a label on the front of each DB for identification.
6. Switches and Sockets
1. Switch and socket box locations must match architectural and interior layouts.
2. Heights: 1.2m for switches, 0.3m for general sockets, and 1.2m for kitchen appliances.
3. Use metal or plastic mounting boxes fixed flush to wall surface.
4. Cables should enter from the top/back of the box and be terminated cleanly.
5. Securely fasten switches and sockets, ensuring faceplates are level and firm.
6. Perform functional testing using test lamps or multimeters.
7. Verify polarity, earth continuity, and proper earthing.
7. Earthing and Grounding
1. Install earth electrodes (minimum 2.5m long) in accordance with the electrical design.
2. Connect copper tape (minimum 25x3mm) or bare copper wire from DBs and metallic
parts to earth rods.
3. Construct earth pits with inspection covers for testing access.
4. Measure and record earth resistance; acceptable values should be below 5 ohms.
5. Bond all metallic enclosures, cable trays, DBs, and water/gas piping to the main earthing
system.
6. Perform visual inspection and continuity test of all earth connections.
8. Low Current Systems (CCTV, Data, Intercom)
1. Install separate conduits and trays for data and communication systems.
2. Use Cat6 cables for data and network systems. Ensure bends do not exceed 90°.
3. Install patch panels and connect using color-coded patch cords.
4. CCTV cameras must be installed at proper heights and fields of view.
5. Connect cameras to NVR/DVR using coaxial or Cat6 (for IP cams).
6. Use cable testers to verify network cable integrity.
7. Intercom systems should be tested for call clarity and door release functionality.
9. Testing and Commissioning
1. Conduct continuity tests for all wiring circuits.
2. Use a megger to perform insulation resistance tests between phase, neutral, and earth.
3. Verify correct polarity at all points.
4. Test ELCBs/RCCBs by pressing test buttons and simulating leakage current.
5. Measure voltage levels and phase sequence for three-phase systems.
6. Record all test results in formatted test sheets.
7. Submit testing reports and inspection checklists for consultant approval.
10. Safety and Final Handover
1. All electricians must follow standard PPE protocols.
2. No live working is permitted without a permit-to-work and proper supervision.
3. Fire extinguishers and first aid kits must be accessible on site.
4. Site must be cleaned and organized after work.
5. Provide complete documentation: as-built drawings, DB schedules, cable routes, test
reports.
6. Conduct a final walk-through with the consultant/client and rectify any punch list items.
7. Handover upon successful completion and final sign-off.
