Who Is The Conch In Lord Of The Flies
Imagine you are trapped on a deserted island with no adults. In William Golding s book Lord of
the Flies this group of boys had recently been in a plane crash and no adults survived. They
crashed into a random island with no resources, parents, or even shelter. They had to learn to get
along with one another and create a decent civilization where they had a leader. The way they
were able to accomplish this was by having a shell that they would blow into to call everybody for a
meeting. In Lord of The Flies by William Golding, the conch changed from unity to disaster.

At the beginning of the story, the boys used the conch for power and unity. Piggy is talking to
Ralph and they are trying to find out who is on the island. What Piggy said to Ralph was, We can
use this to call the others. Have a meeting. They ll come when they hear us (Golding 16). Piggy
was saying this because they had just found a conch on the island. He was stating how they could
use it. Not too long later they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jack and his gang had just attacked Piggy and took glasses. Piggy was very upset because he
couldn t see anything. What Piggy had said to Ralph after this had happened was, I thought they
wanted the conch. Ralph trotted down the pale beach and jumped on to the platform. The conch
still glimmered by the chief s seat (Golding 168). Piggy said this to Ralph because he was in
shock from the boys just attacking him and taking his glasses. Towards the end of the novel,
Piggy decided to go to there base and try to get his glasses back in trade for the conch. When he
was there, The conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist (Golding 181).
This happened when Piggy was crushed by the boulder and he had the conch in his hand. This was
how the conch had symbolized evil and war at the end of the story because they killed Piggy since
they were so mad at his group of
Prison Vs Auburn Prison Analysis
Two forms of penitentiary emerged in the early stages of the United States the Auburn and
Pennsylvania system. Pennsylvania system is a method which has a main focus placed on solitary
confinement. This program is known as the separate system. The program arose in the Walnut jail,
which was later converted into a state prisonwith the additions a separate cell for the worst type of
felons. The inmates were placed in a cell by themselves where they would only see the correctional
staff and maybe a visitor on rare occasions. The would work in solitary as well to make sure that
they were able to focus on themselves. The Auburn prison system took a completely different stance.
In the Pennsylvania system inmates were to be kept alone, in the Auburn
The Ethics Of Christopher Roller
Christopher Roller is God and therefore he has godly powers, or so he thinks. In June of 2005,
Christopher Roller, a resident of Minnesota, sued two magicians (David Blaine and David
Copperfield) for defying the laws of physics and using Godly powers. He claims that he is God
and so, therefore, they are stealing his powers. He demanded that the magicians show their secret
tricks to him and give him 10% of their total income for life. Wow, now that is so ridiculous that it
s funny. This is one of the many examples of frivolous lawsuits that we see today in our society.
Our courts of law have been littered continuously with cases like this. The justice system is being
abused; our taxpayer money is being flushed down the toilet with these lawsuits. In 2006, the
WESH news group reported that Since 2004, at least 336 lawsuits have been filed against local
governments, costing taxpayers more than $16 million . Much can be done with 16 million in local
places. But that doesn t happen. First of all, we spend our precious money on ludicrous suits.
Secondly, these lawsuits affect our society, and they clutter our court system. Third of all, people
take the rights that we have in our nation and abuse them to the maximum. In America, we have so
many freedoms, more than many in other countries. Our justice system is one of the greatest
advantages to the people because everyone is equal under it. In the court, everybody, no matter the
rank in society everything is viewed with the same
My Family Has Always Been A Decade Last Year
My family has always been. Out there, so to speak. We never stayed in one place for too long.
Due to the bread winner of the family having a falling out with his company, everyone was laid
off. We moved a total of four or five times our whole life, with a sixth move sometime soon.
Pomona is the one city we ve lived in for the longest time, it s been a decade last year. When we
look at our home, it wasn t a house at first, it was more like an abandoned garage with an extra
room. An eight year girl was forced to look at the atrocity that was the garage like house, and
instantly like it and claim it as if it was her own castle, but in a very disturbing pink color. Mama
and Papa, they thought that this house was the one, even though it wasn t pretty. They would go
off and say that, the walls will need to be pained and we have to clean everything. Mama would
go off and send me, my brother, and sister to my Tia s house so we wouldn t bothered them, but I
would just be on the floor looking at the ceiling, rotating my head with the fan for hours, and
hours. I didn t have anyone to play with either. To be honest, I never had good enough friends to
try to call. Papa would go up to us and would say that this was for the best and we have to keep
moving on, well, he said it in Spanish, but you get the point. A garage home for possibly my
whole life. Help. I was a shy girl, I didn t have many friends because I didn t like the same things as
the rest. Like, music, shows, games etc. I
A Definition of Collaborative vs Cooperative Learning
A Definition of Collaborative vs Cooperative Learning

Ted Panitz (1996)

[pic]
I have been searching for many years for the Holy Grail of interactive learning, a distinction
between collaborative and cooperative learning definitions. I am getting closer to my elusive goal
all the time but I am still not completely satisfied with my perception of the two concepts. I believe
my confusion arises when I look at processes associated with each concept and see some overlap or
inter concept usage. I will make a humble attempt to clarify this question by presenting my
definitions and reviewing those of other authors who have helped clarify my thinking.
Collaboration is a philosophy of interaction and personal lifestyle whereas cooperation is a ... Show

The major difference lies in the fact that cooperative deals exclusively with traditional (canonical)
knowledge while collaborative ties into the social constructivist movement, asserting that both
knowledge and authority of knowledge have changed dramatically in the last century. The result has
been a transition from foundational (cognitive) understanding of knowledge , to a nonfoundational
ground where we understand knowledge to be a social construct and learning a social process
(Brufee, Collaborative learning: Higher Education, Interdependence, and the Authority of
Knowledge, 1993). Rockwood states:
In the ideal collaborative environment, the authority for testing and determining the appropriateness
of the group product rests with, first, the small group, second, the plenary group (the whole class)
and finally (but always understood to be subject to challenge and revision) the requisite knowledge
community (i.e. the discipline: geography, history, biology etc.) The concept of non foundational
knowledge challenges not only the product acquired, but also the process employed in the
acquisition of foundational knowledge.
Most importantly, in cooperative, the authority remains with the instructor, who retains ownership of
the task, which involves either a closed or a closable (that is to say foundational) problem ( the
instructor knows or can predict the answer). In collaborative, the instructor once the task is set

A Brief Note On Falling And Injury Prevention
Kinematics of Falling Injury prevention is one of the most significant driving forces for the study
of biomechanics. Understanding what causes people to get injured allows us to design better,
safer products and systems that make injury less likely. While relatively new, the kinematic study
of falls and maintaining stability is an important area in injury prevention. This is especially
relevant to the elderly, who fall at a much higher rate than the average population. According to
one study, 32% of people over the age of 74 fall at least once a year. Individuals over the age of 85
are almost 100 times more likely to die as the result of a fall than those younger than 65, making this
figure even more alarming (Luchies, Alexander, Schultz,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fall impact research measures the speeds and forces involved once an individual has lost his/her
balance and is going to hit the ground. Fall recovery research was conducted to find differences
in how young and old people responded to sudden pulls at the waist. Little difference was found
in the kinematics of body segment and joint rotation. Differences were, however, identified in the
number and length of steps taken by the older and younger participants (Luchies et al., 1994).
Though it yielded interesting results about balance recovery strategies, fall recovery research
failed to pay dividends in terms of injury prevention. Studies this removed from the actual impact
of a fall are unable to find substantial injury provoking differences between younger and older
people. Highly concerned with improving safety for the elderly, researchers like Luchies and
colleagues refrained from measuring scenarios where participants actually lost balance. This
limited the scope of their findings. A study by van den Kroonenberg, Hayes, and McMahon (1996)
revolutionized fall research. It was the first study to use human volunteers as subjects to study fall
kinematics and involved video taping 19 to 30 year old participants falling on cushioned mats. The
shift in focus from fall recovery to fall impact opened up a brand new frontier of inquiry. Measuring
the kinematics acting on free falling individuals and those
Rosa Parks Speech
Rosa Parks, known as the Mother of the Civil Rights Movement ( Walk of Fame ), started an
immense revolution by simply not moving at all. While losing her job, receiving threats, and
being forced to relocate her family, Parks still stood powerful in the midst of one of the most vital
movements in history ( Walk of Fame ). Parks s ambition fueled her stirring passion for equality
(Brinkley 44). Rosa Parkss arrest was the catalyst of the Montgomery Bus Boycott which then
changed the economic, social, and political climates in America.

By refusing to follow an order from a racist bus driver, when told to give her seat up to a white
man, Rosa Parks sparked a revolution. On December 1, 1955, her arrest commenced the
Montgomery Bus Boycott; which, in turn, changed the economic climate of America. As a result,
the city was forced to desegregate its buses due to a Supreme Court ruling that rejected revenues (
Walk of Fame ). Rosa Parks became a well known sensation to the nation due to her rebellion
against racial discrimination. Parks fely discontented with the racial segregation and decided her
time would be better spent staying put rather than giving up her seat and being humiliated by the
bus driver. If she gave up her seat, it would have proved that she was no better than the label that
the bus driver was applying to her, an inferior, Negro woman. As discussed in the article,
Montgomery Bus Boycott, The boycott continued for over a year. Losing so many regular
