Analysis Of The Book Werewolves By Gaius Petronius...
Werewolves through the times
Werewolves were first mentioned in 60 C.E. by Gaius Petronius Arbiter in his work satyricon. The
widespread belief in werewolves was parallel to the time people believed in witches. It was also
made popular by christian interpretations and european folklore during that time. The spread of
werewolf belief can be credited to colonialism by the europeans. In China and east asia this similar
belief like werewolves was in weretigers. An ancient story of the werewolves come from a Roman
myth. In 1 A.D. Ovid wrote metamorphoses, where he told the tale of king Lycoan. King Lycoan
offended the gods by serving human meat to them at dinner. Jupiter punished this transgression by
transforming Lycaon into a werewolf. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the belief in werewolves as a dangerous and killing monster has been dispelled in the 21st
century we are still fascinated by the werewolves and these creatures have a presence in our
present society as well. They are referenced in movies of 1981 An american werewolf in london ,
recently in 2009 Underworld Rise of the Lycans and very recently in 2014 wolves . Killer Wolf,
She Wolf, Of Wolf And Man, Wolfshade are some of the songs in the 21st century inspired by
werewolves. Although these movies and songs describe werewolves as dangerous monsters, the
false belief in werewolves have changed and we now view it as a fiction in the fantasy world.
In the movie X Men, Wolverine and several continuations of the X men storyline Wolverine is
shown as a mutant werewolf. Wolverine is a fictional character who is a mutant from birth. In the
movie he helps in the saving the world. The concept of thick hair growth was and sharp claws was
replaced by a furry mustache and steel claws that come out at will and super strength along with
healing powers.
Twilight is a teen movie that shows the love between a girl, Bella and vampire Edward. In the movie
Twilight New moon Jacob has a significant role as a werewolf that is friends with Bella (a human)
and also saves her from multiple attacks. The legend of werewolves was also used by JK Rowling in
her famous book Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Professor Lupin is described as a
werewolf who is forced to
The Better Story in Life of Pi by Yann Martel
On its surface, Martel s Life of Pi proceeds as a far fetched yet not completely unbelievable tale
about a young Indian boy named Pi who survives after two hundred twenty seven days on a lifeboat
with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. It is an uplifting and entertaining story, with a few themes
about companionship and survival sprinkled throughout. The ending, however, reveals a second
story a more realistic and dark account replacing the animals from the beginning with crude human
counterparts. Suddenly, Life of Pibecomes more than an inspiring tale and transforms into a point to
be made about rationality, faith, and how storytelling correlates the two. The point of the book is not
for the reader to decide which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He starts out with a zebra, hyena, an orangutan, and a tiger, but the animals slowly diminish
leaving only Pi and Richard Parker. Pi works to tame and care for Richard Parker, and the two
survive for two hundred twenty seven days. Pi encounters a fellow French castaway who is eaten
by Richard Parker (Martel 311 320). Pi also comes across a man eating island (Martel 322 358).
The events that take place are fairly far fetched, and the probability of all of them occurring to the
same person in the period of time given is even less believable. The second story, on the other
hand, is a perhaps more believable retelling of the original story. Pi relates the second tale upon
the request of his interviewers for a story without animals (Martel 381). In this story the animals
are replaced with human representatives including an injured Chinese sailor, a French cook, Pi s
mother, and Pi himself. The second story, like the first, begins with many passengers on the boat,
but in the end it leaves only Pi to survive by himself after brutally murdering and eating the cook
who killed both the sailor and Pi s own mother (Martel 381 391). Unlike Pi s first story, this account
is dark, desperate, and harshly realistic, without any sense of hope to counter it all. After relating
both of these stories to his interviewers, Pi asks them which story they think is better (Martel 398).

Comparison Of Jules Ferry And Georges Clemenceau
Jules Ferry and Georges Clemenceau were two of the greatest proponents of the Third Republic in
France. They had been active even before the fall of the Second Empire, with Ferry writing articles
against the Empire in Le Temps (Encyclopædia Britannica, 1998) and Clemenceau founding several
Republican journals, and even being present at Léon Gambetta s proclamation of the Third Republic
in 1870 (Monnerville, 2016).Whilst it is clear that the two men were both staunch supporters of a
republic in the sense of government delegated to a small number of citizens elected by the rest
(Madison, 1787) their views on many aspects of the state as a republic frequently clashed. This
essay will break down the key differences in Ferry and Clemenceau s positions,... Show more content

Clemenceau is more tied to the theory of the ideal republic as espoused by J.S. Mill, which states
that in a representative democracy people exercise through deputies periodically elected by
themselves ultimate controlling power (1951 cited Myo 2009). In this view, the politician is
bound to the wishes of his electorate. Whilst entrusted to make decisions on their behalf, they do
so as a representative and not as an autocratic ruler. Ferry on the other hand is closer to the theory
of Niccolo Machiavelli. This purports that the politician must act not as an extension of the
electorate, but as their leader, protecting them from the corruptions they see in society (1987[1532]
cited Myo 2009). Ferry is more akin to a Machiavellian republican leader in his paternalism and his
feeling that he has been elected to mold the French nation into his republican vision as opposed to
simply representing
Religious Stereotypes
My most recent series of paintings, Society s Reflection, deals with religious stereotypes. Starting
with six traditional religious figures, I alter their appearance in ways society wouldn t expect such
as adding tattoos, piercings, or including a transgender figure. This allows me to break up
stereotypes and reflect the true diversity of our society. These changes are intended to show that
anyone can study a religionor hold a certain set of beliefs, regardless of how they look on the
outside. I have been stereotyped for my entire life, which is why I have a strong connection to this
series.
In October, which is Dwarfism Awareness Month, I installed a body of work portraying my very
personal experience living with dwarfism. I created a
Super Sad True Love Story Analysis
Super Sad True Love Story Response to Personal Prompt #1
Super Sad True Love Story by Gary Shteyngart is a satirical dystopian novel with many complex,
interesting characters. While everyone in the society has their flaws namely the obsession with
youth, attractiveness, and technology that seems to run through them all the characters have
characteristics that we can all resonate with, as was the purpose the author intended. In this novel, I
found myself relating the most to Sally, Eunice s sister. While a minor background character, her
political activism and care for the one s she loves sincerely resonated with me. Sally Park, from the
beginning of the novel, is interested in protesting against the American Restoration Authority. She
doesn t agree with the Bipartisans and wants to help do something about it. As Shteyngart
exemplifies, I have a meeting to go to at 1...Columbia Tsinghua protest against the ARA. We re
going to DC in a week (32). Despite the fact that her sister clearly does not agree with Sally getting
political, Sally does what she thinks is right. When the society starts to rapidly decline, Sally is out ...

I attended the protest on campus back in November after Donald Trump was elected, and the Women
s March last month in Lansing. I am quite outspoken about politics, and often get into heated
debates with those that don t agree with me. I find myself trying to educate others on the real,
frightening problems that are arising in society, like my parents and younger sisters who don t
have too big of a stake in politics. While it is not gone into depth too much, it is clear that Sally
has a drive to do what is right and fight what is wrong. This not only makes her a likeable
character, but makes me relate to her as well. We both have strong political views, and will fight for

To Build A Fire By Jack London
You should never dive into life or death situations unprepared and ill informed on how to take
action given a common problem you could come across because it really could be your life on the
line. Actions are the main factor in your survival and because of that fact, survival is your own
responsibility. Alternatively, there are some situations where you really have no control and are at
the mercy of nature. But, regardless people should be held accountable for their actions in situations
that deal with life and death because your actions directly affect you. Your decisions also affect
other people, for instance, in a storywhere a German caver needed to be saved the operation to
extract him from underground included 728 people who weren t even payed in the end.... Show more

In addition, the advice he was given was to bring a partner to help him in an emergency situation,
consequently the ice trap and failed fires that led to his demise could have been avoided. But more
specifically in this man s case he could ve survived injured, but alive if he didn t let his mind
wander off while he was chewing tobacco in what was in fact a life or death situation. On the
contrary someone could say that even being alert and having a partner with him the man might not
have made it out of the situation alive. To that I say being alone and responsible for yourself
should strike a tinge of fear in your heart and let you know that you are the one who is accountable
for whatever happens to yourself in
