David Hume s Theory of Ethics Essay
David Hume is considered to be one of the big three British empiricists, along with Hobbes and
Locke, and lived near the end of the Enlightenment. The Catholic Church was losing its control over
science, politics and philosophy and the Aristotelian world view was being swallowed up by a more
mechanistic viewpoint. Galileo found the theory provided by Copernicus to be correct, that our earth
was not the center of everything, but the celestial bodies including the earth circled the sun.
Mathematicians abounded. Pascal developed the first mechanical calculator and Newtonian physics
was breaking new ground. Not even the arts were immune. Within the same era Mary Shelley
authored Frankenstein: or the Modern Prometheus. The main theme for this... Show more content on

The latter being the kind that he uses as a naturalist.
David Hume s most famous quote is Reason is, and ought only to be the slave of the passions, and
can never pretend to any other office than to serve and obey them. To understand the implications of
this quote as a basis for an ethical theory you need to understand that every other ethical theory
attempts to derive how things ought to be from how things are. The jumps from matters of fact and
relations of ideas perceived by reason, to value judgments perceived by emotions, are made in Hume
s opinion with no logical reason. There is nothing contradictory in the statement the sun will not rise
in the morning, it is not unreasonable. We only feel that it ought to continue rising in the morning.
The scientific method uses inductive reasoning to construct a hypothesis and Hume does not
contend that it should not be used. It has been useful thus far in making predictions and it is the only
tool that we have for understanding the world around us.
David Hume s ethical theory sits between philosophy and modern day psychology. He uses the
empirical method to study the natural tendencies of human beings to engage their emotions, and in
our emotions is where morality could be understood best. One must remember

Bibl 104 Worldview Letter
Hi Dear Doug I am so glad that you send me a letter, I hope that my answers are helpful for you.
First of all, worldview relates to the purposes of God. God created the world for a specific
purpose as a place for mankind to exist. Is a perspective, a hypothesis of the world, utilized for
living as a part of the world. A world perspective is a mental model of reality a structure of
thoughts and demeanors about the world, ourselves, and life, an exhaustive arrangement of
conviction. We should study worldview because that help us to discover how God works in the
world, to better understand the Bible and how to apply it to your life. Also we should study
varieties of world views to learn how to difference between good and evil. Not just because
Similarities And Differences Of The Han And Han Dynasty
The Qin and Han

The Qin and the Han are two equally important dynasties that greatly expanded in their reign,
although both the Qin and the Han had its own ideas on expansion. In fifteen years, the Qin Dynasty
united the seven warring states. Emperor Qin s rule resulted in the isolation of China from
foreigners and brought upon strict rules and the removal of freedom. Under Emperor Qin s rule, any
action people took which angered the ruler could result in harsh punishment. Consequently, people
were unhappy and often suffered from poverty. On the other hand, The Han dynasty lasted 426 years
and managed to conquer more land, which gradually expanded and formed what China now is today.
While isolation from the outside world was still present ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Subsequent to the unification, the laws and punishments were harsh due to the different ruling in
each of the 7 warring states. Qin Shi Huangdi the first emperor of the Qin dynasty was a dictator,
thus, people were discontent. As a result, there were assassination attempts that attributed in his
phobia of death and foreigners were banned from the area. To reduce the chances of a rebellion
amongst the people, books were burnt restricting their knowledge on other philosophies and to
silence criticism of imperial rule, the kings banished or put to death many dissenting Confucian
scholars (HELLO). Since they did not have free will, the citizens were constantly in fear, this held
the empire together, instead of breaking apart into different ruling systems. The Han dynasty also
resembles this trait of isolation as expansion did not start immediately. The dynasty had to establish
rules and a proper government to rule the people. At the start it was quite successful but there were
a few disputes and an attempt to change the royal bloodline. Only when emperor Wudi took throne
did expansion move forward. Due to his persistence, he built up their army and defeated the Huns in
spite of previous attempts to avoid battles with people outside of China. However, militarism was
expensive, causing the taxes to rise and the contentedness of the people to
Jewish Identity Research Paper
A History of the Soviet Jew in Israel
The idea of Israel as a place of refuge for Soviet Jews has a troubled history. Israel has always
encouraged and assisted immigration and absorption as part of a pro immigration ideology and
policy. Israel is a safe haven for Jews. However, the heavy migration of the Soviet Jews into Israel
caused Israelis to rethink their past . The immigration of Soviet Jews to Israel brought significant
social and cultural changes to Israel in terms of the historical question about the nature of Jewish
identity, as well as put Judaism itself into question. The question, who is a Jew? formed the basis of
historical claims about the religious nature of legal Jewish identity. The Soviet Jews faced cultural
displacement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Israeli Jews pride themselves on high moral standards and a policy of acceptance, factors
that caused them to question their judgment of the Soviet Jewish immigrants today. Israeli hostility
towards Russian immigrants can be seen in stereotypes and myths. Israelis think that the new wave
of immigrants are handicapped and are trying to exploit Israel. Russians are also stereotyped as
thieves and prostitutes (*).Youth are influenced by their elders. Since mature Israelis projected
negative ideas about Russian immigrants it became prevalent in their children. In a survey
conducted by Hafia University, two thirds of Israeli teenagers polled stated that they would not be
close friends with a Russian immigrant and believe that Russian immigrants take jobs from Israeli
Jews (*). Undefined Jewish credentials upset Israelis as well because of their Jewish
Why I Am A Cold Bowl Of Mac And Cheese
As I sat down to eat the cold bowl of Mac and Cheese that I had brought with me, my emotions
boiled over as a horror which I wish upon no one came forth. Infuriated, my rage took control of
me as I jumped out of my chair, forcibly tossing the only source of food I had disposable to me in
the garbage. This climatic moment was initiated upon my discovery that there was a broken
microwave in the Sawyer lounge and Suffolk Universityhad yet to replace it. Yes, it seems trivial,
even downright ridiculous to get that pent up over a defunct microwave, but look at the scenario
from my perspective. Imagine getting up at six in the morning for a nine A.M. class, anxious about
all your assignments coming up, and having your last class finish at five forty five P.M. I had
wondered how many other commuter students had to suffer the same fate as I had to that day. All
you want is a warm energizing meal, but the broken microwave prevents you from obtaining it.
See, what the incident stated above did is affirm my notion that Suffolk is not accommodating to its
commuter students. Historically, Suffolk University was a commuter school. However, since 1996,
Suffolk has opened four residence halls, the most recent being The Modern Theater Residence Hall,
which opened in 2010. (Suffolk University) This has resulted in a shift in the school that saw 66.9%
of the admitted freshmen class of 2015 live in the residence halls (Applications at el). Conversely, as
the University has shifted towards the
Theodore Roosevelt . Introduction To The Life Of Theodore
THEODORE ROOSEVELT Introduction to the Life of Theodore Roosevelt Theodore Roosevelt
was born October 27, 1858 in New York City to Theodore Roosevelt Sr. and Martha Bulloch.
Theodore was also known as Teedie or Teddy. Due to his continuing battle with health issues,
which started at birth, Roosevelt was homeschooled along with his siblings. The family house also
had a gymnasium where he lifted weights and boxed to help him gain strength. Despite what
appeared to be a sickly and weak child, Roosevelt went on to accomplish many great things
scholastically, physically and politically. He graduated from Harvard University, published several
books, won many awards, and left a lasting impression in the military as well as during his
presidency.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were the first American troops ever sent overseas, arriving at the southeastern end of Cuba
on June 22, 1898. Roosevelt would go on to lead the group to victory, but sadly many soldiers
would die due to yellow fever, lack of food and supplies and unsanitary camps. Roosevelt would
be remembered for the Round Robin letter he sent asking for the U.S. troops to be removed from
Cuba. After the soldiers were brought home, Americans called Roosevelt a national hero for
bringing them home safely.2 Roosevelt would be called a war hero and receive a nomination for
the Medal of Honor. He was elected as governor of New York in 1898.1 The Republican political
machine in New York supported Roosevelt for governor. However, once he was elected governor,
it was clear to them that he had no interest in listening to their ideas or following their ways. This
would lead Roosevelt into becoming the running mate for McKinley in the presidential election,
in hopes of preventing a second governor term for the once loved war hero. McKinley would go
on to win the election and Roosevelt would become the Vice President, but this was short lived. On
September 6, 1901 McKinley was tragically shot and killed. Roosevelt would now become the 26th
president and the youngest president in the nation s history at age 42. Under his first term as
president Roosevelt would have many successes.4 He acted against
