The Battle Of Bull Run. The American Civil War Was Fought
The Battle of Bull Run

The American Civil War was fought from 1861 to 1865 to determine whether the Union or
Confederacy would survive. The fight would take place between the North, called Union states and
the South, called Confederate states. The Confederate states wanted to leave the North and South
union and stand on their own.
The war started on April 12, 1861 when Confederate forces attacked a Union military base at Fort
Sumter in South Carolina. The reason the war started at this time was that Abraham Lincoln had just
been elected President in 1860. Abraham Lincoln wanted to end slavery but keep the union together.
The North had an increase of industry and the South still depended on farming the land. However,
the South ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The battle was also known as the Battle of First Manassas. This was the first major battle of the Civil
War. Even though the Union Army outnumbered the Confederate Army, the experience of the
Confederate Army made the difference and they won that battle.
The Confederate reinforcements had time to arrive by railroad because the Union s forces were
slow positioning themselves. Even though the Union and Confederate sides had about 18,000
troops in their first battle, they were not trained and they were led poorly. The outcome of this
battle was a Confederate victory. The Union forces suffered a disorganized retreat of their troops.
Union troops marched from the Federal capital in Washington, D.C. to strike a Confederate force
along a small river known as Bull Run. After fighting on the defensive for most of the day, the
rebels rallied and were able to break the Union right flank, sending them into a chaotic retreat
towards Washington. The Confederate victory gave the South a false confidence and shocked many
in the North, who realized the war would not be won as easily as they had hoped.
By July 1861, the northern press and the public were eager for the Union Army to make an advance
on Richmond, ahead of the planned meeting of the Confederate Congress there on July 20, 1861.
Encouraged by early victories of Union troops in western Virginia, and by the war fever spreading

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Starting A Joint Venture
As it has said, there are very good reasons to decide starting a Joint Venture. Joint ventures as a
strategic alliance between companies present lots of benefits for the different parties. They allow to
spread the risk between the venture partners. The co ventures agree to share profits and losses
depending on the risk taken by each of them. It allows flexibility due to its nature. Flexibility setting
the limits of the business, in structural organization and in decision making processes, overall in
comparison with its parent companies. They also facilitate the access to resources. Here it is
included, as well, financing, the specialized staff and technology. This is an opportunity to gain new
capacity and to benefit improving the ability and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The strategic alliance stablished in the first place should guide the analysis of success. Along the
years there have been lot of different approaches to this subject, the book International Joint
Ventures: Theory and Practice (Aimin Yang and Yadong Luo, 2001) explains a good amount of
them. Therefore depending on the aim of the Joint Venture it could be taken into account different
indicators: increase of profits, share R D expenses, market position, improvements in distribution
channels, reducing of overall costs, development of new technology, diversity of products, reduction
of competition, reduction of risks among others. There is no magic formula to measure the level of
success of a Joint Venture, each case has its own particularities and it has to be analyzed taking them
into account. As a general approach, the success of a Joint Venture should be determined by the
distance between the objectives and the
Construction Industry Essay
According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, A total of 4836 workers died from an occupational injury
in 2015. The number reached the highest count since 2008 (CFOI). The focus of this research was
on private industries from the year 2011 2015 as private sectors consistently accounted for over 89%
of all fatal accidents over this period. The three industries with the highest fatality count from 2011
2015, in descending order, were construction, transportation, and agriculture. Several possible major
causes for the high fatality count in each industry and recommended actions are discussed below.
Private construction had the highest number of fatal work injuries across all industries as it

More fatal injuries in construction resulted from slips, falls, and trips than from any other events
from 2011 2015, which implied that the lack of appropriate employee training might be another
cause of the high fatality count. One example was when a worker lost his footing when climbing
down a 400 foot telecommunication tower, the ladder safety device did not activate to stop the
employee s fall, he plunged 90 feet to his death (USDoL). The causes of his death were
inadequate training on the ladder safety device he used and the defective safety sleeve that failed
to save him when he fell. Another example, four construction workers were killed when the north
east side of a parking garage under construction collapsed. OSHA issued citations to the five
construction firms involved in the project for failing to provide workers a workplace free from
recognized hazards causing or likely to cause deaths or serious physical harms. With a total of 765
fatal injuries, the transportation and warehousing industry represented 15.82% of the total number of
fatal injuries in 2015 (CFOI). The fatality count in the transportation industry rose from 749 in 2011
to 765 in 2015 (CFOI). Bureau of Labor Statistics shared that, Roadway incidents have consistently
accounted for the greatest share of
Blues Music Analysis
With all the sadness in the world, where have the blues gone? Blues music is one of the most
creative and expressive genres out there, yet it is wildly underappreciated among younger
generations. They are unaware of the beauty and history of the misunderstood genre. In order to
understand the blues, we must discuss what bluesmusic is, its history, and the state of the blues
today. Blues music is mainly defined by its lyrics, which are more lyrical in nature, rather than
narrative. In B.B. King s song, Every Day I Have the Blues, King gives us a good example of what
blues music is generally about,
Every day, every day I have the blues
Ooh every day, every day I have the blues
When you see me worryin baby, yeah it s you I hate to lose
Blues music is known for its expression of emotion such as sadness and melancholy usually in
relation to love. In King s example, he was singing about a woman he had lost and his troubles
finding love. He repeats this phrase three times during the song with long lyrical pauses between
stanzas for instrumental solo usually by the lead singer on the guitar or piano. King is known for
never playing while he sang. He would either play or sing, but never both at the same time. The
blues are also known for its twelve bar music structure which makes it distinct to other genres of
music. Being a twelve bar musical structure means that the music generally has the same phrase,
chord structure, and duration. The chord structure is always
Healthcare Cost And Quality Analysis
Health care cost and quality is a major topic of conversation in the United States (U.S.). With the
cost of health care spiraling out of control, the U.S. is spending an average of $9,086 per person
per year on health care (Mahon, 2015)Click and drag to move. Although, the U.S. spending on
health care is higher than the other high income nations across the world, the U.S. has the lowest
life expectancy (Mahon, 2015). In the U.S., health care cost and quality are impacted by both
public and private agencies. Public agencies are organizations that have an impact on the entire
country; while private agencies make an impact on certain communities or states. In this paper, we
are going to take a closer look at the roles of these agencies in how... Show more content on

Unique Qualities Enhance Detective Novels
Unique Qualities Enhance Detective Novels Detective fiction: a genre of writing where a detective
works to solve a crime. Often the audience is challenged by the author to solve the crime before the
detective by providing clues before the detective discloses the answer towards the end of the fiction.
The audience is often stimulated by the clues, which makes them feel more obligated to continue
reading at the novel to see in fact who has done it. Authors often use unique characteristics in their
mystery novels to keep the readers enticed. Gothic elements in Rebecca, and encyclopedia
knowledge in The Nine tailors enhance the purposes of mystery and detective fiction. In the novel,

Danver had made her out to be. In fact, after the ball when Mr. De Winters was upset about how
the heroine had wore the same gown as Rebecca it was not because he missed her dearly, instead
it was because it reminded him of how awful his late wife traded him while they were together. At
the end of the novel the house goes u in flames and is destroyed much like how the idea the reader
had of Rebecca went up in flames once Mr. De Winters had shared the truth with your unnamed
heroine. Another gothic element of the novel Rebecca is the sea. The sea was originally thought
to be the death place of Rebecca before the audience had learn how she really died at the hands of
her husband. The sea being the place that Rebecca drowned in due to a boating accident less than a
year ago adds a sense of eeriness and signaling a warning to those unfamiliar are not welcome
(Gothic Elements). The theme of unfamiliar, and not feeling welcomed are reoccurring with the
unnamed narrator. Such as how she feels not welcomed in the Manderly by the head maid, how she
does not feel as though she truly knows herself and how she is so insecure about why Mr. De
Winters loves her. The gothic elements in this novel really allows the audience to connect more the
with unnamed narrator, which makes the readers more emotionally connected and invested in the
heroine. Thus, heightening the mystery for the
Examples Of Duality In Palazzo Chiercati
Duality in Palazzo Chiercati Palladio explores duality in Palazzo Chiericati through typology,
structure, and proportion. Palazzo Chiericati s site has a lot to do with the design of the building.
The site of the Palazzo Chiercati is in central Vicenza, Italy. The building was erected on a very
shallow site and has a long frontage lining an open public space. Beyond the canal there was more
rural landscape compared to Vicenzas streets. Palladio did not let the opportunity of designing the
building regarding this unique site. To emphasize the difference in landscape or built
environment, Palladio makes use of a synthesis between two stark typologies. Palazzo Chiercati
is the combination of both the palazzo and the villa. The building rather than trying to create an
ideal version of either typology focuses more on making combination of these two typologies
meaningful and understandable. Rather than try to fit a multitude of components from each
typology into the Palazzo, Palladio focuses on key distinguishing parts of the typologies. For the
palazzo aspect of the building, he makes sure to include a courtyard. While the courtyard is
narrow and not surrounded by the building on all four sides, the opposite of the paradigm for
palazzos, Palazzo Farnese, the courtyard distinguishes itself by being the closest aspect of the
building to the urban environment surrounding it. To emulate the typology of villa, Palladio makes
use of the loggia and portico. Because the building was one of Palladio s most compressed ,
Palladio was not able to make a full and extruding portico like many villas feature. There is still that
hint of a portico, but the extrusion from the colonnadeof the loggias is very miniscule. However,
while the portico may be short and compressed, it is still a feature of the façade meaning Palladio
wanted it to be understood as a portico from a villa. This building s construction began after
Palladio s infamous Villa Rotunda. While Villa Rotunda had porticos on all four sides, Palladio
reduces the number to one in Palazzo Chiercati to draw attention to short procession needed to travel
from the portico to the main space. This unusual adjacency of the portico and the central space with

Identifying and Solving Bulimia
In Fiji, before television came about in 1995, the island had no reported cases of eating disorders.
Within three years of obtaining American and British television programming, more than two
thirds of the Fijian girls developed eating disorders and three quarters of the girls felt fat (Hall 1
2). Now, eating disorders are becoming more and more common as the years go by. Bulimia has
been around for thirty years and people are still not very familiar with the harm it can do physically
and emotionally. Bulimia nervosacan destroy not only a person s life but others around them, and it
can be stopped with support and counseling.
Eating disorders in America are common. One or two out of 100 students will struggle with one (

If someone shows signs of depression or extreme mood swings they could also have bulimia.
Bulimics can suffer from anxiety and substance abuse. Furthermore, the bulimic person is
contradictory, illogical, and irrational when it comes to picking foods to eat. Bulimics feel
powerless to stop eating. They only stop once they are too full to eat anymore.
Bulimics show severe behavioral signs. They eat uncontrollably and have strict dieting plans for
themselves. They use the bathroom frequently after meals and do extreme exercises to keep weight
off even if the weather is bad or they are in pain. Bulimics have many methods to lose weight
besides vomiting. They take laxatives, diuretics, enemas, diet pills, or insulin. Bulimics are obsessed
with weighing, measuring, and looking at themselves in the mirror. Sometimes they refuse to eat
until they come up with a negotiation to eat if they are allowed to purge and continue starving
themselves. They hide food and argue over certain foods that they will or will not eat.
Bulimia happens for numerous reasons. It is normal for a person s body to get bigger when it is
growing. Most people take that in a bad way though, so they do anything they can to get rid of that
newly added weight. Some young people use it to postpone growing up; this may explain why
college students are
The Child s Language Development
Four year olds can tell simple stories with an expressive vocabulary of 1,500 to 1,600 words
(Owens, 2004). Toddlers at this age have increased mastery of consonants and can produce
sentences that are four or five words long. Language transitions to a tool that is used to explore the
interrogative why? which helps the toddler ask abstract questions and learn more about their
environment. Five year olds use more adult like language, but aspects of their syntactic structure
may be missing. Expressive vocabulary encompasses about 2,200 words by age five (Owens,
2004) and schemas for their vocabulary become more complex. Five year olds still have difficulty
with a few consonant sounds and with consonant blends, but most of the phonemes of the child s
language are fully developed. In early childhoodthrough school age, the child s language
development will plateau; however, the interaction with social development increases the child s
pragmatic skills, which feeds into more refined expressive and receptive language.
Social development becomes measurable when the child is in the experimenter stage. The
emergence of the infant s social and representational behavior reflects most clearly in
communication, which was discussed earlier. At this age, the infant is able to solve problems by
imitating their caregiver, which is an important learning strategy (Owens, 2004). The infant develops
the ability to recognize a behavior performed by their caregiver and replicate it in
Joe Obermueller Job Shadow Essay
For my job shadow I went to the University of Sioux Falls! There I was introduced to Joe
Obermueller who is the Assistant Professor and Director of theatre. I arrived at the University of
Sioux Falls November 15th. I think it was extremely interesting that Obermueller was a professor
and a director. Having both of those responsibilities would be exceptionally stressful, Obermueller
has two things that he has to focus on in his career. He has to make sure that the academic side is
tip top and people are learning what they need to. But, he also has to focus on the upcoming
production that requires an abundance of work which causes him to stay at the school until the late
hours of the night. When I made it to the school, I marched into the Jeschke... Show more content on

There wasn t anything I disliked about the shadow. I loved being in classes that is all about, theatre,
something I want to do in my future. Many people wish we had some of those classes at West
Central. We learned that being a professor isn t an easy thing to achieve, but is one of the most fun
and rewarding careers. An article I read on Shmoop about theater directors state Theatre, as a
form of creativity and expression, is a fantastic way to reach across cultures and get down to our
shared humanity as well as our shared dislike for any play over three hours ( Day in the life of a
Theatre Director ). I also learned from Obermueller that interning at places which is similar to the
career I want to pursue can really help me later in life. Also, I should begin looking into jobs that
pertain to my future now rather than later. Obermueller also made it very obvious that making
relationships with people who can get me to the places I want to go will really improve my
chances in succeeding in this career. So in conclusion, going to USF was an amazing experience
and really eased my nerves about college. It showed me college will be fun and having a career in
theatre is a challenging yet beneficial job. I really look forward to my future now that I know more
