Project description
Contextual Language Understanding with Transformers Models Elevating
NLP capabilities: The objective of this project was to develop a high-
performance chatbot capable of understanding and responding to general
queries with contextual accuracy. The focus was on leveraging state-of-the-art
transformer models to enhance natural language understanding and
conversational intelligence.
Workflow:
• Import and Quantization: We utilized a pre-trained transformer-based
Large Language Model (LLM) as the foundation for our solution. To
optimize the model for efficient deployment, we applied QLORA and PEFT
parameters for quantization, reducing the model to 1.1 billion parameters
while preserving its core language understanding capabilities.
JCET, Dept of CSE 17CS84
Project description
• Fine tuning : Following quantization, the model was fine-tuned using a
separate dataset(mlabonne/guanaco-llama2-1k)specifically designed for
general question-answering tasks. This fine-tuning process enabled the
model to better align with conversational patterns and domain-specific
language usage.
• Deployment: After successful training and evaluation, the model was
uploaded to the Hugging Face Hub, enabling easy sharing, access, and
versioning. Hosting it on Hugging Face ensured scalability and model reuse
across platforms.
• Interface: To provide an interactive user experience, we developed a static
web interface using Flask (backend) and JavaScript (frontend). This
allowed users to seamlessly interact with the chatbot in real time, making
the solution accessible and user-friendly.

Internship responsibilities
• Attended IBM training sessions and completed module-based assignments.
• Developed a capstone project under IBM guidance and submitted a detailed
project report.
• Participated in Wadhwani Foundation classes focused on communication,
teamwork, and leadership.
• Completed soft skill assignments to enhance employability and workplace
readiness.
• Engaged in IT Ignite training covering core technical topics like programming,
networking, and cloud computing.

Internship responsibilities
• Completed hands-on assignments and technical assessments as part of the IT
Ignite curriculum.
• Maintained professional conduct, punctuality, and regular attendance
throughout the internship.
• Interacted with mentors and incorporated feedback for continuous skill
improvement.
JCET, Dept of CSE 17CS84
Training/Skills acquired
• During the internship, students received hands-on training in cloud
computing, AI, machine learning, and DevOps through the IBM program.
This practical exposure helped build skills in widely used industry
technologies.
• The Wadhwani Foundation sessions focused on developing key soft skills
like communication, teamwork, leadership, and workplace readiness,
preparing students for professional environments.
• Through the IT Ignite program, students learned core programming,
networking, database, python, machine learning and reinforced with
practical assignments and assessments.
JCET, Dept of CSE 17CS84
Challenges faced
• Students faced challenges related to the convenience of attending online
classes, including maintaining focus and managing time effectively in a
virtual learning environment. Additionally, intermittent internet
connectivity issues occasionally disrupted live sessions and affected the
smooth completion of assignments and projects.
• Additionally, the vast range of technical topics covered made it difficult for
some students to fully grasp all concepts without additional self-study and
practice.
JCET, Dept of CSE 17CS84
Overall experience
• The internship provided a valuable blend of technical training and
professional development, allowing students to enhance both their hard
and soft skills. Despite challenges like online learning and complex topics,
the structured programs from IBM, Wadhwani Foundation, and IT Ignite
ensured comprehensive skill-building.
• Engaging projects, hands-on assignments, and interactive sessions with
mentors enriched the learning journey, preparing students effectively for
future career opportunities in the IT industry.
JCET, Dept of CSE 17CS84
Conclusions
The internship experience was instrumental in bridging the gap between
academic knowledge and industry requirements. Through a combination of
rigorous technical training, practical projects, and soft skills development,
students gained a holistic understanding of current technologies and
workplace expectations. The program successfully equipped participants with
the confidence and competencies needed to excel in their future careers,
laying a strong foundation for continued growth and learning
