Colin Powell Leadership Analysis
This paper is a descriptive essay that explains in detail how or why Colin Powell s eighteen
leadership principles pertains to me during phase II of 922A Warrant Officer Basic Course. I
chose three leadership principals that I was able to identify with: (1) Being responsible
sometimes means pissing people off. (2) You don t know what you can get away with until you
try. (3) Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier. This paper describes my personal opinions and
real life experiences that pertain to each of the three principals chosen. Three Leadership
Principals from Colin Powell s Leadership Philosophy Being a leader, doing the right thing and
living up to the army values are all things that society expects of a military officer. Leadership
means to positively influence, motivate and provide your Soldiers with a sense of purpose to
accomplish the mission to the highest standard. General Colin Powell has published both books
and articles on leadership, specifically his eighteen principles of leadership. After reading
through the eighteen principles I have chosen three that I am able to identify with and will
discuss in detail how and why each principle pertains to me. The first principle I chose was, Being
responsible sometimes means pissing people off. A quality leader shows responsibility for the
welfare and well being of their Soldiers, which also inevitably means some people will get angry at
decisions you make. Being a people pleaser is a trait
2008 Juvenile Crime
According to the National Criminal Justice Reference Service article Juvenile Arrests
2008 on the bulletin by Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), juvenile
crime in 2008 showed a decline from recent years. Crime data is gathered annually and reported to
the FBI s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program by local law enforcement agencies across the
nation and 2008 marked the first decline in juvenile crime since 2004.
Juvenile crime is defined as crime committed by persons under the age of 18. Although juvenile
crime in 2008 had increased in a few categories such as property crime it had decreased in most.
Criminal offenses are categorized under violent crime index (murder, manslaughter, forcible rape,
robbery, aggravated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the article, juvenile arrests in 2008 disproportionally involved more minorities than
whites. Data of 2008 indicated that 52% of juvenile violent crime index arrests and 33% of
juvenile property crime index arrests involved black youth even though they only make 16% of
the youth population ages 10 17 in the U.S. 47% of the same crime index involved white youth
which makes up 78% of the U.S. population ages 10 17. Hispanic youth was included under white
racial group. Keeping track of crime through the FBI s UCR Program can be an effective tool to
measure trends in juvenile crime and reduce delinquency among our youth. For instance, data
gathered can help law enforcement agencies allocated funds to programs aimed to curtail rising
crime in certain areas and hire more staff where it s needed. On the flipside, the same data can help
law enforcement agencies notice what programs or what is not working in the fight against juvenile
delinquency. Also, the same data can also help address social issues such as the juvenile arrests
disproportionately involved minorities and female
The Mona Lis The Identity Of The Individual Essay
The Mona Lisa remains as probably the most famous and most valuable piece of artwork of all
times. It is widely viewed as one of the finest illustration of portrait work done during the Italian
Renaissance. The Mona Lisa was one of the first pieces of art that I remember looking at in my
elementary art class. Leonardo Da Vinci, a famous Italian artist, created the piece. It is currently
held at a museum in Paris, France. It is believed Leonardo worked on the oil painting during the
early 1500 s. The identity of the individual featured in the portrait has, over the years, sparked
debate all over the world; some even claim it is Leonardo Da Vinci himself. The identity of the
individual, however, is believed to be Lisa del Giocondo. There has also been debate surrounding
the message passed in the painting as it is somewhat difficult to read the expression on Lisa s face.
The Mona Lisadepicts the image of a female subject sitting upright and tilted sideways. The face
and the chest of the subject are slightly turned to face the viewer. The individual s right arm comes
across the body and rest on top of her left arm. The left arm is resting on the armrest of the chair
she is sitting in. The portrait has a background with a landscape depicting a vanishing point. The
landscape has an imbalance between a rocky horizon that is high and a flat land stretching all the
way from the left. The imbalance in the background landscape clearly brings out the fantastic
atmosphere of the
Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech Analysis
There is no denying conflict. Everyone faces conflict of some sort in their lives, whether it be an
argument over which sibling gets to sit in the front seat of the car on the way to school, or a
potentially dangerous confrontation that necessitates an immediate reaction. Writers such as Susan
Campbell Bartoletti and Elie Wiesel, who wrote Hitler Youth: Growing Up in Hitler s Shadow and
Nobel PrizeAcceptance Speech respectively, portray such situations. Bartoletti writes about how
one German girl faced conflict during World War Two, and Wiesel shares his personal experience
as a Jew in a concentration camp. Both works show that the most important aspect of facing a
conflict is the way in which a person chooses to deal with it. One could react to conflict by
becoming angry or sullen, shouting or going silent, or simply pouting. None of these reactions
are the best some can even be counterproductive to one s goals. The best way to deal with conflict is
to take a stand for one s beliefs. First off, standing up for one s beliefs creates many positive effects,
for large groups of people as well as for the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Erectile Dysfunction ( Ed )
I have selected erectile dysfunction (ED) as my topic of discussion this week. ED is such a
prevalent health issue, there are so may myths regarding the issue. One of the most common
myths that I think we may all have heard of from our elderly patients I can get it up because I am
just too old . I hope to further explore this health issue and be able to provide knowledge
information to our patients in the future. Below is a helpful link that can assess how much we
know about the facts of ED. I scored very low the first time before exploring further marterials
regarding the topic. Give it a try, and then read the information below afterwards. http:/
/www.webmd.com/erectile dysfunction/rm quiz erectile dysfunction ED is a very common sexual
dysfunction, is occurs in men. The chances of ED increase with age, however, it is not an
unavoidable part of aging. ED can be inability, inconsistent ability or able to maintain brief period
of erection that is firm enough for sexual intercourse (Arcangelo, 2013). ED can increase stress,
decrease self confidence and leads to relationship problems. It could be the initial signs and
symptoms of other health issues (Mayo Clinic, 2016). Causes and pathophysiology ED is any
disruption during the sequence of events: nerve impulses from the brain travel through the spinal
column stimulate the muscles, veins, arteries and fibrous tissues. The combination of physical and
psychological put one at risk for ED (Arcangelo, 2013). Physical causes
Jesus Christ Died On The Cross For Our Sins
As believers, we are constantly reminded that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins. His death
and his resurrection are fundamental to our Christian faith. Without his death, the relationship
between God and His creation would have remained broken. Unfortunately, many believers do not
take the time to consider the complex and deep meaning of Jesusdeath. If I have learned one concept
throughout this class is that if I do not have a personal comprehension of Jesus death, I will never
be saved. His death signifies salvation. It motivates us to imitate Jesus life as he was completely
human and never sinned, yet he died on the cross in the cruelest way. Personally, Jesus death means
love, reconciliation, redemption, and victory.
When Adam and Eve ate from the forbidden tree, sin entered the world and that which was once
good became corrupted. From that moment, we were separated from God. Yet because we were
made in His image and He love us so much, He gave up his one and only son to die on the cross
for our sins. One of God s attributes is His benevolence, which means that He loves and cares about
all His creation. He is also merciful, which means that He is very compassionate and tender hearted
towards us. I mention these specific attributes to emphasize the fact that these attributes were also
present in the person of Christ. Jesus said, He who has seen me has seen the Father (John 14:9),
meaning that if we want to personally know the love, the holiness, the power
The Moral Dilemma Of The Louisiana Purchase
The Moral Dilemma Of The Louisiana Purchase
President Thomas Jefferson faced many moral dilemmas during the process of deciding to purchase
the territory, the moral predicaments that president Thomas Jefferson faced was going against the
constitution, going in major debt to pay for the territory, and also faced many issues with foreign
policy almost exclusively between the countries Spain and France. President Jefferson was put in a
situation that no other leader of our young country had ever been in, and he stressed about breaking
his own moral code to make the correct decision for his nation. President Jefferson s major personal
moral dilemma was actually purchasing the territory of louisiana from the french. Jefferson was a
strong Democratic Republican. This party was founded by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison,
This party was created in opposition of the federalist party which was led by Alexander Hamilton.
The Democratic Republican party believed that a strong central national government would deplete
and completely rid the rights of states. The party strongly disapproved of the national Bank Of The
United States stating that the bank was taking away power that belonged to the states. Among many
of the views of the Democratic Republican the strongest belief was to strictly abided by the
constitution, so when the opportunity arose to purchase the French owned territory, the constitution
did not state whether the government could or could not acquire any new land
Essay on Climate Change and The Rise in Sea Level
On a recent afternoon, Scott McKenzie watched torrential rains and a murky tide swallow the street
outside his dog grooming salon. Within minutes, much of this stretch of chic South Beach was
flooded ankle deep in a fetid mix of rain and sea.
Welcome to the new Venice, McKenzie joked as salt water surged from the sewers. Michael J.

According to the World Bank Development Report 2013 there has been an increase in global
surface temperature of 0.4 to 0.9 Celsius (C) in the past 100 years. This change in temperature
largely caused, according to the IPCC, by the release of GHGs through human activities. There are
several effects associated to the change in global ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recent studies (such as Wigley and Raper, 1987) have shown that 2 to 5 centimeters in sea level
rise, in the period of 1880 1985, can be explained by thermal expansion (Warrick, 1990). Moreover,
studies (such as Meier, 1984) have found evidence that 2 6 centimeters of sea level rise can be
explained by the melting of glaciers (Warrick, 1990). According to the International Programme for
Climate Change s estimates sea level will rise between 0.3 and 1.0 meter by 2100, with a best
guess estimate of 0.5 meter (World Resources, 1998 99). A rise in sea level will most likely affect
coastal, deltaic, and low lying populations and ecosystems. Still, more of global coastal areas are
being developed for the demand of growing populations. According to World Resources (1998 99),
sixteen of the world s largest cities with populations of more than 10 million are located in coastal
zones. Coastal areas in particular will be affected severely in terms of beach and coastal erosion,
permanent inundation, temporary flooding, and increased water salinity among other things are
possible environmental consequences of sea level rise. For the United Kingdom a 1 meter/yr cliff
retreat rate would increase by 0.35
